The plan is to keep you megabyte munchers brimming over with data by doubling the amount that’s on offer for certain plans and particular phones. Specifically, Tesco Mobile is offering double data on certain Apple iPhones and Huawei handsets. That means there are options for fans of both iOS and Android alike.

Deals start at £15.99 with 2GB of data and stretch right up to £25 per month for a whopping 20GB of data SIM only. From iPhone 6 and 7 to Huawei P-Smart and SIMO, here are some of the best data deals right now from Tesco Mobile.

Every little helps

Tesco Mobile, running with O2, has been named a Which? Recommended provider for the eighth year running with over five million customers across the UK.

The supermarket-turn-mobile provider offers Anytime Upgrade Flex contracts which allow users to change their deal both up and down on a monthly basis. These are also capped, meaning users won’t get bill shocks as they always know their top limit.

OnePlus 6 pricing reportedly ‘finalized’ at around $555 and up in India

This is far from officially confirmed information, but it's definitely not unreasonable to expect a 64GB OnePlus 6 configuration to fetch Rs. 36,999 in India, up from the 5T's Rs. 32,999 starting price.

The post OnePlus 6 pricing reportedly ‘finalized’ at around $555 and up in India appeared first on Pocketnow.

A new Xiaomi phone with stock Android could debut alongside the Mi A2

Xiaomi is working on two new Android One smartphones. One of them could be the Mi A1 successor and the other one is still a mystery.

XDA Developers have discovered two new Xiaomi phones with their firmware files obtained by @funkyHuawei suggesting Android One availability on both phones. The first phone is said to be a successor to the Mi A1, which also shares a lot of elements with the recently launched Mi 6X.

Source- XDA Developers

The phone is codenamed “jasmine_sprout” where the word “sprout” signifies it’s part of the Android One program. Although XDA could not access the complete device firmware, they did get their hands on some of its files— build.prop, system applications, and permission files.

As per these files, the phone is from Xiaomi, but without MIUI and labeled as “sprout” to signify Android One. The Android OS framework, SystemUI and rest applications are stock Android, which is not the case with MIUI apps. Some of the files pointed towards support for seamless software updates, which is available only on the Mi A1 among all Xiaomi phones.

There’s no name specified except for the codename, but folks at XDA went on to dig out some more hardware details of the phone. A comment in the build.prop file lists ‘sdm660’, which makes it evident that the phone has a Snapdragon 660.

Not just the chipset, camera-related framework also hints at its similarities with the Mi 6X. The Shared EXIF model, and the front camera properties like the sensor model and resolution also matches the Mi 6X.

The fact that the Mi 5X was a re-branded Mi A1, and these clues are tidy enough to expect a Mi A2 based on the Mi 6X. But, we would still suggest you to take this information with a pinch of salt.

While the Mi A2 wasn’t hard to guess, the second Android One certified device looks like a new entrant in the league. To recall, the CEO, Lei Jun also made a statement about it last week.

Yes, we plan to have more Android One devices. Some of our users in India seem to like stock Android, and we are willing to bring in more devices with Android One including the Redmi series,” said Jun.

Source- XDA Developers

The second phone comes with slightly inferior hardware codenamed “daisy_sprout”. The firmware files of the phone reveal that the phone will feature a ‘msm8953’ chipset, popularly known as the Snapdragon 625. This could mean Xiaomi is working on an Android One phone that’s cheaper than the Mi A1. Media is relating it to the rumoured Redmi S2 that’s been making rounds in the news lately.

Sure, the Mi A1 was a successful device for Xiaomi, and it’s possible that they could  extend their line-up to serve more stock Android enthusiasts in a country like India. Still, there’s a limited information about both the phones and it's too early to come to a conclusion, but we’ll be keeping a close check on more news about them.

HTC U12 Plus camera samples hint at its photographic prowess

The HTC U12 Plus (or just HTC U12) is probably going to be announced soon, so it’s not surprising that photos seemingly taken on the phone have leaked, but they do reveal a little more about the camera.

The shots, obtained by MobielKopen, aren’t all that remarkable in themselves, though they seem fairly detailed, but the EXIF data from the images reveals that they were taken with f/2.6 and f/1.8 apertures.

What’s not clear is whether those apertures come from two different lenses or a variable aperture lens, as seen on the Samsung Galaxy S9.

Two lenses is more likely, especially as other leaks point to the HTC U12 Plus having a dual-lens camera, but we’d previously heard that there would be one 12MP lens and one 16MP lens, while these images all have a 12.2MP resolution.

Multiple cameras with multiple apertures

So it’s possible that the HTC U12 Plus has a variable aperture 12MP camera, used to take these photos, as well as a second lens, which would put it more in line with the camera on the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus. But for now we can’t be sure.

The photos don’t reveal anything else, but we have previously heard that the HTC U12 Plus might also have a dual-lens front-facing camera, so its photographic capabilities could be one way in which HTC aims for the phone to stand out.

We should know soon, as current rumors point to an announcement sometime in May.

T-Mobile and Sprint merger promises 5G progress in the US

American mobile giants T-Mobile and Sprint have agreed to merge in a move which the two parties claim will improve services for customers and ensure the US maintains its leadership into the 5G era.

T-Mobile will be the senior partner in the merger, effectively purchasing its rival for $26 billion, and its CEO John Legere will head up the new combined company.

If approved, the transaction would combine the third and fourth largest operators in the US. It is likely this will attract the attention of regulators, but both companies have launched a charm offensive to claim why this will be a good thing for the market.

T-Mobile and Sprint

It claims the economies of scale will allow it to be more aggressive in the market, lowering prices and encouraging competition. Indeed, there is a pledge to invest $40 billion during the first three years after the merger.

Central to this claim is that neither Sprint nor T-Mobile has the means to build a truly national 5G network on their own, but their combined spectrum and network assets mean they will be able to this more rapidly than rivals AT&T and Verizon – both of whom have more customers and spectrum than the merged company.

This is because T-Mobile has long range 600MHz airwaves, whereas its rivals have mmWave spectrum which offers vast capacity but only within a limited radius. The two companies also assert that Verizon and AT&T would have to “kick” customers off LTE to facilitate the rollout.

“This combination will create a fierce competitor with the network scale to deliver more for consumers and businesses in the form of lower prices, more innovation, and a second-to-none network experience – and do it all so much faster than either company could on its own,” said Legere. “As industry lines blur and we enter the 5G era, consumers and businesses need a company with the disruptive culture and capabilities to force positive change on their behalf.”

This nationwide 5G would not only bring benefits to customers, who would get 15 times faster speeds by 2024, but also boost the entire US mobile industry, which has enjoyed significant advantages from leading the world in 4G such as job creation.

It is unclear how receptive regulators will be to the proposals, but both parties will hope the promise of investment and increased competition will see it passed. Another claim is that half of Americans can only get high speed broadband from one provider, whereas 5G will enable fixed-wireless access (FWA) services across the USA.

“We intend to bring this same competitive disruption as we look to build the world’s best 5G network that will make the US a hotbed for innovation and will redefine the way consumers live and work across the US, including in rural America,” declared Sprint CEO Marcelo Claure, who will join the board of the new firm.

“As we do this, we will force our competitors to follow suit, as they always do, which will benefit the entire country. I am confident this combination will spur job creation and ensure opportunities for Sprint employees as part of a larger, stronger combined organization, and I am thrilled that Kansas City will be a second headquarters for the merged company.”
