OnePlus 8T could’ve been spotted at Geekbench

Yesterday we talked about how OnePlus will be launching a different Nord for North America later this year but, it looks like they’re focusing on the 8T already. It just went through Geekbench, revealing the new model number and some of the specs. It looks like it will be powered by the Snapdragon 865 SoC, it’ll pack 8GB o RAM and this variant is already running Android 11. Sadly, by this benchmark we can’t really tell if this is the regular 8T or the Pro, or if it’s the Snapdragon 865 or the 865+. Leaks should start coming in soon as we usually get these around October and November.

Microsoft’s Surface Duo will reportedly begin shipping in the week of August 24

Recently the Microsoft Surface Duo went through FCC and Bluetooth SIG certifications which usually means we’re getting closer to the launch date and, it looks like that might be the case. According to a new leak from Twitter, the Duo has started production and will beginning shipping to consumers on the week of August 24th. We were originally expecting it to come out for the holidays but, these certifications recently popped up and multiple Microsoft executives have been showing it off on social media so, this time line makes sense. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G pre-orders are now live with a $650 credit offer in tow

You may get a free pair of Galaxy Buds Live with Galaxy Note 20 Ultra pre-orders

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 may arrive on September 18

Let’s move on to Samsung as, and we have a lot to cover. First, pre-orders for the Z Flip 5G have begun in the States. These pre-orders will go on until August 6th and if you have an eligible device, you can get up to $650 in trade-ins, meaning you can get this phone for $800. Samsung is also adding six months of Spotify Premium, YouTube Premium and more. Speaking of pre-orders, we have some leaked coupons on Twitter that apparently are from Indonesia. The coupon basically says that if you purchase the Note 20 Ultra you’ll be getting an e-voucher to get the Galaxy Buds Live or the Buds+ for free. The coupon also reveals that the Buds Live will cost around $179 and that pre-orders will run from August 6th through August 19th. Finally, we have a new report with an alleged launch date for the Z Fold 2 and a price tag as well. The report mentions that Samsung and their Korean partners have agreed that September 18 will be the launch date for the Z Fold 2 but, you shouldn’t expect a price cut. The Korean price amounts to $2006 which means customers can expect the same $1980 we had for the original Fold. Oh, and remember that Thom Browne Edition we talked about yesterday? Yeah that will apparently be $3350.

Apple confirms the iPhone 12 series will be delayed by a few weeks

Qualcomm hints at a slight delay in the debut of Apple’s 5G iPhones

iPhone 12 lineup and new iPads could launch in October

We know that Apple’s launch timeline is a mess right now, at least when it comes to leaks. A couple of days ago we covered some leaks from Twitter that claimed that we might be getting an online event on September 8th where we would be getting the iPhone 12 line, the new Apple Watch, a new iPad and even AirPower. Now, Qualcomm just shared their quarter earnings and in their Q3 report, they underlined a potential effect on their revenue forecasts due to the “impact of the delay of a 5G flagship global phones” which analysts believe is the iPhone 12. And, this is no secret as Ming Chi Kuo has been predicting a delay for the mmWave iPhones for a long time now. However, Qualcomm’s CFO did say that the delay might be brief as it is only a partial delay. Now, we got a new tweet from Jon Prosser where he claims that the iPhone 12 and new iPads will be coming in October, going along with the delay Qualcomm reported. We’re not sure if this means that we’ll be getting the event until October or, if it’ll get announced on September 8th and we’ll have to wait.

Story of the day:

Google Store teaser hints that the Pixel 4a is finally arriving on August 3

A couple of days ago, Jon Prosser leaked that the Google Pixel 4a would be happening on August 3rd after countless delays. Well, today Google just added a “lorem ipsum” page to the Google Store which is actually a puzzle. After you solve this puzzle, it reveals the words “The Google, Just What You’ve Been Waiting For Phone” along with the August 3 date on top of the phone’s silhouette, FINALLY. The lorem ipsum text also reveals the words “Video Chat”, “Lowlight Capture”, “Blur Bokeh”, “Megapixel”, and “Long Lasting Battery”. Just for context, we started covering leaks of the Pixel 4a back in December, and once the pandemic hit it was delayed numerous times. This phone is expected to bring the Snapdragon 730, a 5.81in OLED display, 6GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage. There’s no word on the XL variant other than those sketchy leaks we got some time ago so, we assume that it won’t happen next week.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 may arrive on September 18

We’re just days away from the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event. We have received countless leaks and rumors, but one more can’t hurt. We recently saw leaked images of the next Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, and now we also get a possible release date, along with a possible price tag.

According to a new report from South Korea, the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 will be released on September 18. Several rumors suggested that this device would arrive with a less expensive price tag, but this report says otherwise. Apparently, the device would be priced at 2,398,000 Korean won, matching the price of its predecessor. If you make a direct conversion, the price of the new Galaxy Z Fold 2 would be $2,006, but it is believed that it will keep the same $1,980 price tag as the original Fold. Now, if you want to go all out, the Thom Brown Edition of the Z Fold 2 is supposed to be available for $3,350.

You may get a free pair of Galaxy Buds Live with Galaxy Note 20 Ultra pre-orders

It seems that Samsung is trying or will try to boost Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra sales. According to a new leaked image, the device will include some freebies when purchased during its pre-order period, well, in some countries, at least.

According to a leaked image of a flier, Samsung Indonesia may be planning on giving out free Samsung Galaxy Buds Live or Galaxy Buds+ for pre-orders of the new Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra. The company would give e-vouchers with pre-order confirmations, and these would cover the full price of any of the earphones mentioned above. Now, we can’t confirm if this offer may apply to other markets, since they may get different freebies or none at all.

Apple confirms the iPhone 12 series will be delayed by a few weeks

Apple has today announced its fiscal results for Q3 2020, posting a quarterly revenue of $59.7 billion. But another major announcement during the earnings call was that the iPhone 12 series might not be available during the regular September release cycle and might face “a few weeks” worth of delay.

“As you know, the last year we started selling new iPhones in late September. This year, we project supply to be available a few weeks later,” Apple’s Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri was quoted as saying by CNBC. However, it is unclear if only a select few or all the iPhone 12 series phones will be delayed.

However, this won’t be the first time that Apple has pushed back the release of an iPhone. The iPhone XR was launched in September of 2018, but went on sale a month later. Similarly, the iPhone X also made its debut alongside the iPhone 8 series in September of 2017, but only hit the shelves in November due to production issues.

Nokia 8.3 5G is finally coming to the US in the fall season

HMD Global launched the Nokia 8.3 5G in March, and over a quarter since its debut, the phone is yet to hit the shelves in the US market. But that is about to change. Today, the Finnish company announced that the Nokia 8.3 5G is finally coming to the US market in the fall season, but didn’t specify a concrete launch date.

“Now, as the first step in HMD Global’s North America 5G roadmap, the company today announces the availability of the Nokia 8.3 5G in the U.S. this autumn. The Nokia 8.3 5G is a global, future-proof Android smartphone that supports evolving 5G network deployments around the globe,” the company said in its press release.

Talking about the phone itself, the Nokia 8.3 5G features a 6.81-inch FHD+ punch-hole display with a 20:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, you’ll find the Snapdragon 765G SoC paired with up to 8 gigs of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. The quad rear camera setup consists of a 64MP primary snapper, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2MP depth sensor and a 2MP macro camera.

Google Store teaser hints that the Pixel 4a is finally arriving on August 3

Google may finally have revealed the date on which the Pixel 4a arrives, or at least hinted at its debut. The official Google Store now has a dedicated lorem ipsum page that is, in fact, a puzzle that has to be solved to reveal the August 3 date. It is worth noting here that the page does not explicitly mention August 3 as the launch date, but we believe it most likely is.

When you land on the page, you have to tap on the blank boxes to match the color of the Google logo. Here’s the color order you need to achieve: blue, red, yellow, blue, green, and red. The secret message? “The Google just what you’ve been waiting for phone.” We don’t get to see the Pixel 4a itself, but the caption makes it clear that we’re talking about a smartphone here.

A few days ago, leakster Jon Prosser also claimed (with great confidence) that the Pixel 4a will indeed arrive on August 3. Additionally, the text below also hides the mention of a few smartphone attributes such as “videus chatum” (video chat), “lowlightena capturum” (low light capture), “blurtutate bokehus” (blur bokeh), “megapixelum’ (megapixel), “longlastingis batterum” (long lasting battery).

Apple Store app gets a ‘For You’ tab and a device comparison tool

The Apple Store app has received a new update (v5.9) that brings two notable changes – a fresh ‘For You’ tab and a new device comparison tool. Apple says that the new ‘For You’ tab “shows your new For You tab shows your order status, devices, services, reservations, and even product tips, all in one place.”

300x0w.png (300×649)

The new ‘For You’ tab shows accessories that are owned by users, warranty information for devices owned by the user, the trade-in value of your device. And in case the device isn’t yet registered, users will get information on how to initiate the device trade-in process.

As for the new comparison tool, it will let you compare your existing iPhone with the recently launched models side by side. This works similarly to how the comparison tool works on the Apple Store’s web version, complete with their cost, trade-in discounts, and of course, the specifications and features.

Samsung is working on a Galaxy A32 5G model: Report

Samsung is reportedly working on the Galaxy A32 5G. It is likely to be the successor of Galaxy A31, which was launched back in March. The latest development comes from Dutch blog GalaxyClub that in a report citing “sources” said that the smartphone is in works.

The Galaxy A32 5G is suggested to carry the model number SM-A326. It is touted to feature a 48MP primary rear camera. However, instead of the 5MP depth sensor found on many Samsung phones these days, the upcoming handset is said to carry a 2MP depth camera.

The upcoming phone is likely to be Samsung’s mid-range offering with 5G support. Other than this, the company could be working on the Galaxy A12, Galaxy A22, Galaxy A42, Galaxy A52, Galaxy A62, Galaxy A72, Galaxy A82 and Galaxy A92 as it filed applications to trademark these names in January.

Urbanears Luma Wireless Earbuds Review

Wireless earbuds are all the rage now in terms of headphone accessories. Everyone you see on COVID video conferences in life or on TV is probably wearing them. No wires dangling around, no strap over your head or around your neck. They’re really great! And most people are wearing those white Apple Airpods, which has prompted numerous copy-cats. The Urbanears Luma is another set that copies Apple’s Airpod design, but it gets a few things different and makes the popular wireless headphone design more compatible with diverse devices. Not to mention, the price is an improvement as well.

First of all, the included case & charger is certainly different from the Airpods. It’s a box with rounded corners that opens with a clamshell style hinge and subtle magnetic fasteners. There’s also a fabric cord protruding from one corner which you can use to attach the case to something else for safe keeping. The headphones themselves last for about 5 hours, while the case can recharge them about 5 times in order to give you a total of 25 hours of battery life.

Above you can see that the case supports Qi wireless charging as the green LED indicates while it sits on my Nokia Qi wireless charging battery. Note that the LED indicator is INSIDE the case. You won’t be able to tell if the headphones are charging or have finished charging if the case is closed. In fact, the case has no external indicators or buttons whatsoever. All it has is the hinge, attachment cord, and a USB-C charging port for wired charging (a small black USB-C cord is included without an AC adapter). The Qi wireless charging option is great if you have charging plates throughout your house and office as I do. Plus, it keeps the headphones warm.

Since there are no buttons on the case or on the headphones, pairing with your phone or other Bluetooth device is very unintuitive, but once you read the instructions in the box… turn out to be very easy. First off, you’ve got to remove the headphones from the case and then peel the little pieces of plastic off of the metal contacts in the case. After that, you can put the headphones back on the case, which will basically turn them on. Then remove them again and now you should see a blinking light on the shaft of each earphone. That means they’re in pairing mode now.

Next, all you have to do is go to your phone or whatever, open the Bluetooth settings and search for new devices. The “Urbanears Luma” will show up and you’ll hit the “Pair” button to connect them. They’ll automatically reconnect from now on whenever you remove them from the case and put them in your ears.

Pairing the headphones to a 2nd devices requires disconnecting them from the first device which puts them into pairing mode again. You can also factory reset the headphones by putting them in the charging case, press and hold the touch control surface on both for 10 seconds, then put the headphones in your ears, and double tap both earbuds.

Yeah, you heard that right, the Urbanears Luma have a touch surface on the outside that you can use to control different aspects. Here’s what you can do:

Double tap either headphone to play/pause music or answer/end a phone call. Triple tap the right earbud to skip to the next track in your music software. Triple tap the left earbud to go to the previous track in your music software. Press and hold either earbud for about 2 seconds in order to activate your phone’s voice command service. On Android, this would be Google Assistant by default, and on iPhones it would be Siri. These headphones do not have always on listening for “Hey Siri” or “Hey Google” voice commands, and that’s ok. Pressing & holding for 2 seconds is a good way to activate those. A little chirp will play in the earbuds when you’ve successfully activated one of these commands, so you can tell that you’ve done it right, but figuring out how to do it right takes some practice and the chirp is not unique enough to the tapping sequence. It’s hard to tell by the chirp sound effect if you activated a double tap or triple tap. Aiming a triple tap of your finger at the right spot in your ear takes some practice too. Sometimes a triple tap registers as a double tap, too, and that’s annoying.

On the first Android 10 phone I paired with there was an annoying bug where after a handful of tapping control gestures, often the earbuds become unstable and start play/pausing by themselves repeatedly. Rebooting the phone or putting the earbuds in their case and removing them again seems to fix this temporarily. I couldn’t reproduce the issue on a 2nd or 3rd device, and re-pairing with the 1st device again seemed to fix the issue completely, so that may have been a fluke.

While the Urbanears Luma earbuds do not have any fitting options, they do seem to stay in my ears nicely. Sometimes they feel like they’ll fall out, but they haven’t yet just by shaking my head. If I brush against them with a shirt or hand, they’ll fall out really easily though. Obviously, they copy Apple’s “universal fit” for their original Airpods, but a more-customizable fit is absolutely going to be ideal. Urbanears actually has a less expensive “Alby” model of earbuds that do add interchangeable fitting options.

The Urbanears Luma earbuds have IPX4 splash resistance so you can wear them in the rain, and they also have dual microphones on each earbud for better voice quality during phone calls or video calls even in noisy areas. The sound quality is pretty great. No complaints there, but I wish there was a touch/tap gesture for volume control. You can control the volume if the speech assistant on your phone/device supports volume control by tap & holding an earbud for 2 seconds and saying the “Volume up” or “Volume down” command, but that interrupts what you’re listening to and obviously won’t work if you’re on a phone call.

Personally, I would rather see more unique and innovative earbud designs versus copying the popular Apple Airpods, however Urbanears does differentiate a little bit by offering more color options than Apple does. The Ultra Violet and Teal Green color options certainly look more unique than the regular white and black options.

The Urbanears Luma wireless earbuds are now available for $99 which includes the wireless charging case.
