Best headphones under Rs 2,000 in India for May 2020

While smartphone brands are clearly getting rid of the headphone jack in flagship phones for good, these earbuds are still a very important accessory for the majority of the market. Thankfully, mid-range, as well as low-end phones, still come with it. According to a report by IDC, The India wearables market completed another record year as the shipments of wearables devices saw an impressive 168.3% year-over-year (YoY) growth in 2019, closing the year with 14.9 million units. This growth was led by earwear, accounting for most shipment volumes, its category grew five-fold shipping 8.5 million units.

Suffice to say, it’s a very popular segment, especially the headphones under Rs 2,000 with tons of options. So, we’re here to help you make your shopping decision easier. Most products in this range typically offer punchy bass which is preferred by the multitude. However, if you’re an audiophile with very specific tastes, you would have to look beyond this range.

It’s also worth noting that the best headphones under Rs 2,000 available in India also come with some trade-offs because of that aggressive price tag. We have, however, listed a wide range of headphones over-the-ear headphones, Type-C headphones, and even a couple of wireless headphones.

Realme Buds Wireless

As with smartphones, Realme's Buds are significantly cheaper than the rest of the wireless competition. It brings a bunch of features that are rare at this price, such as seamless connectivity in seconds, magnetic locks that double as the power buttons and long battery life.

Tuned by DJ Alan Walker, these excel in playing back Electro or EDM music with a strong bass. The battery life is rated for 12 hours which is also on the higher side. All of that in a package that weighs only 30g makes the Realme Buds Wireless a no-brainer.

The newly launched OnePlus Wireless Z is the third-gen OnePlus wireless. The Bullet Wireless Z is significantly cheaper than its predecessors and offers very similar specs, at least on paper. They come in four colour options - black, blue, oat, and mint.

Depending on the shape of the insides of your ears, you can choose between different sized tips on the 1More Piston Fit. The 45-degree angled design also helps in getting that feeling of a snug fit.

The 1More Piston Fit are slightly biased in favour of details over bass, so keep this in mind while making your decision.

SoundMagic PL30+ C

SoundMagic is yet another reputed audio accessory maker. The SoundMagic PL30+ C is well-known for its perfectly balanced audio output. You don’t have to worry about playing with the equalizer settings to get the best out of the PL30+ C. However, if you are inclined towards a certain acoustic, you can always customize it the way you like it.

In terms of looks and build quality, the SoundMagic PL30+ C is right up there with the best in this price range. They come in an attractive packaging which consists of a hard case, 5 sets of earbuds and a couple of hooks.

Sennheiser CX 275 S

Sennheiser is a well-known brand when it comes to premium audio accessories. However, keeping the budget consumers in mind, Sennheiser launched the CX 275S in-ear headphones. These headphones offer decent sound output which is a bit more inclined towards the treble.

The Sennheiser CX 275 S fits quite well in the ears and features a composed yet premium build quality.

One of the cheapest in the list, the Realme Buds 2 is the second-generation wired earphones from Realme. The Buds 2 comes in a tangle-free design and also they feature built-in magnet.  They offer good sound quality, overall built is good, and the bass is excellent.

There is nothing much to complain about the Realme Buds 2, they get everything right and for the price of Rs 599, you can’t complain. They are available on Amazon in black, yellow, and orange colour options.

Sony MDR-EX255AP

Sony is another well-known name when it comes to audio products. The MDR-EX255AP in-ear headphones try to strike a good balance between bass, treble and other acoustics. You can also improve the overall quality to suit your needs by fiddling with the equalizer settings.

The semi-braided wires along with the metal casing give the headphones a premium look. With real-silicon earbuds, the Sony MDR-EX255AP fits quite well in the ears.

Xiaomi’s Mi Neckband is for the ones who are looking for a god pair of neckbands for casual running or listening to music. The neckband comes with punchy bass and also offers battery life up to 8 hours on a single charge. Furthermore, the Bluetooth earphone comes with in-built mic with buttons to control media playback and also pick/reject the calls.

On the downside, the Mi Neckband can’t be paired with two devices at once even though it harnesses Bluetooth 5.0. It also lacks any sort for water-resistant, so it’s not safe for your gym workouts.

Sony MDR-XB450

If you are a bass lover, the Sony MDR-XB450 on-ear headphones could be the perfect option for you under Rs 2,000. Powered by the huge 30 mm drivers, the Sony MDR-XB450 can produce bass levels that are unmatched in this price range.

Although the MDR-XB450 focus primarily on bass, they deliver great output in the mids and the highs too.

The MDR-XB450 has well-cushioned ear pads and the metal casing adds to the looks, but the build quality may not be up there if you’re thinking long term. Still, it is a great on-ear option, especially if you’re a basshead.

Xiaomi recently expanded its audio accessories portfolio in India with the launch of the Mi Super Bass wireless headphones. Sporting a cool black and red colour profile and a comfortable design, these Mi wireless headphones are easy on the eyes.

On ears, too, they are comfortable. The cups are well cushioned and seal the ears nicely. The bass is good, too, especially in the lows. Xiaomi says that the headphones should last for up to 20 hours of playback, but it has also bundled in a 3.5mm cable should you run out of juice.

The successor to one of the most popular budget Bluetooth headset, Boat Rockerz 255 Pro offers everything that Boat Rockerz 255 offered with a couple for additional features. They are available in 4 colour options - yellow, blue, red, and green.

The Boat Rockerz 255 Pro features Bluetooth 5.0 QCC3003 chipset to produce HD sound and deep bass. It comes with 10mm dynamic drivers and is also IPX5 rated for water and sweat resistance. A quick 20 minutes charge can last up to 4 hours of playback.

The Boat Rockerz 255 Pro is priced at Rs 1,599 and is available on Amazon and Flipkart

Mi In-Ear Headphones Pro HD

Xiaomi has been synonymous with value for money products for a long time now, and that is no different with the Mi In-Ear Headphones Pro HD. In terms of build quality and design, these headphones are right up there with the best.

Like many other Xiaomi products, the Mi In-Ear Headphones Pro HD offer great bang for your buck without compromising on the quality. These headphones offer top-notch sound at budget prices, making them one of the best options in this guide. However, it’s worth noting that you may not experience the best output quickly, as these headphones require an extensive burn out period.

SoundMagic E30 in-ear headphones

The SoundMagic E30 was launched way back in 2013, but still, it is quite relevant to current standards. The earpieces generate a very well-balanced sound output with unmatchable clarity. The best part is that you can enjoy pure music which is not distorted by excessive bass. The E30 focusses more on the treble side while maintaining a composed, yet tight, bass.

When it comes to building quality, the SoundMagic E30 fails to impress. The headphones are made of cheap plastic with sub-standard finishing. The earpieces are designed to be worn over the ears with its cables going around your earlobes. If properly plugged in, the E30 provides exceptional noise cancellation and are quite comfortable too.

Audio-Technica ATH-AX1iS

Audio-Technica is another reputed name when it comes to audio products. The ATH-AX1iS offers a well-balanced audio output, but it is conservative when it comes to bass.

Although the ATH-AX1iS are durable, the build quality leaves something to be desired. They also fit really well on the ears with well-cushioned ear pads. You also get an in-line mic along with volume controls that makes it easy to manage your music on the go.

Let's end the list with a pair for those whose phones do not sport a 3.5mm headphone jack. The OnePlus Type-C Bullets came alongside the 6T when the company abandoned the headphone jack.

Over time, this has become the de facto pair for those not wanting to opt for wireless solutions, in favour of better latency and quality. The tangle-free cables and inbuilt DAC are great additions.

Some older phones will need turning on OTG functionality in order to use them.

Oppo Find X with Camera Slider, 3D Face Unlock launched in India

Oppo Find X has been launched in India today, marking the re-introduction of Oppo’s flagship Find series of smartphones in the country. The Find X is an interesting new smartphone that features a set of sliding cameras – it is one of the first smartphones in the world to feature such a setup.

Launched in China last month, the Oppo Find X’s headline feature is its Camera Slider, allowing the company to reduce the bezels of the phone drastically - overall, the Find X has an impressive screen-to-body ratio of 93.8 percent.

Oppo Find X specifications

The Oppo Find X runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with the company’s ColorOS 5.1 skinned on top. The device features a 6.42-inch full HD+ AMOLED Panoramic Arc display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.

In terms of performance, the Oppo Find X is powered by the flagship octa core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC coupled with Adreno 630 GPU. In terms of memory, the device has been launched in one variant only – 8GB RAM + 256GB internal storage. In Paris, the device was also launched in a 128GB variant.

Coming to the camera department, the placement of the cameras is one of the USP of the device. It features a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 16MP primary camera with f/2.0 aperture, OIS, LED flash and a 20MP secondary camera with f/2.2 aperture. On the front, the device sports a 25MP selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture.

The Oppo Find X is powered by a 3,730mAh battery with VOOC flash charge support. Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0 LE, GPS and a USB Type – C port.

Another highlight of the Find X is the O-Face Recognition technology, which uses 15,000 dot projection and 3D light structuring to scan the user’s face. While it may add a slight delay in unlocking the smartphone, Oppo claims that it is 20 times safer when compared to fingerprint unlock.

Oppo has also added another feature called 3D Omoji that presumably uses the same 3D light structuring technology. Using 3D Omoji, users can create animated 3D emojis which imitate the user’s real-life expressions, akin to the Animoji feature that Apple introduced with the iPhone X. At the moment, though, the Oppo Find X will not come with this feature in India.

Oppo Find X price and availability

The Oppo Find X is priced at Rs. 59,990 and will be available in Bordeaux Red and Glacier Blue color options.
