Huawei’s P40 Pro is the world’s #1 phone for photography – and it’s AU$200 off for EOFY

With its award-winning P-series devices, Huawei has been responsible for pushing mobile photography to new technological heights and its all-new P40 Pro is another massive game-changer, earning accolades from reviewers and a stunning DxOMark score of 128 – the highest ever awarded by the independent camera ranking website.

Of course, there's more to Huawei's new flagship than just photographic prowess – taking full advantage of the new Huawei Mobiles Services ecosystem, P40 Pro is the manufacturer's most advanced smartphone to date. With a beautiful 6.58-inch OLED display, 256GB of storage, impressive 4,200mAH battery and a slick contemporary design, it more than holds its own against any competitor.

And thanks to a fantastic EOFY promotion, you can currently pick up the P40 Pro for only AU$1,399 – that's a saving of AU$200 from the RRP!

Shoots amazing photos – and that’s not all

Developed in partnership with renowned camera company Leica, the Huawei P40 Pro's shooter acts as the culmination of every lesson either company has learned when it comes to phone photography.

Huawei pioneered the use of multi-lens cameras on smartphones, as well as harnessing artificial intelligence to make photos look their very best. With the P40 Pro, Huawei has delivered its most advanced camera setup to date.

Utilising Huawei's new Ultra Vision quad camera array, the new flagship can take stunning photos in a variety of scenarios. Its 50MP primary camera sports an aperture of f/1.9 and is capable of capturing an incredibly high level of detail.

The inclusion of a secondary 40MP ultra-wide camera with an f/1.8 aperture allows budding photographers to squeeze even more into the frame, thanks to a much wider field of view.

Huawei P40 Pro camera

Additionally, Huawei P40 Pro offers a 12MP telephoto lens, which provides an impressive 5x optical zoom without any image degradation whatsoever. Combined with the device's other sensors, the P40 Pro is able to achieve 10x hybrid zoom, and a staggering 50x max zoom.

Add to this a 3D depth sensor for high quality portrait photos and bokeh effects, along with exceptional video capture, and you have an extraordinarily well-rounded camera package.

Of course, access to multiple camera lenses and a high megapixel count doesn’t necessarily guarantee photographic excellence. Thankfully, alongside that camera array the P40 Pro also combines world-class software and hardware prowess to process your images.

With Huawei's own Kirin 990 5G chipset on board, the P40 Pro has the image processing capabilities to back up its fancy lenses, meaning your photos receive all the benefits of hardware-level noise reduction and real-time video rendering, along with AI image enhancement.

 Access all your favourite apps

By now, you've likely heard that Huawei isn't working with Google in the same way anymore. We're here to tell you that despite this, the Huawei P40 Pro is still an Android smartphone, through and through.

Built using Android 10, the latest version of the smartphone OS, Huawei's EMUI 10.1 interface delivers all the uniquely-Android features you've come to know and love, and provides P40 Pro users with access to a wealth of Android apps in a variety of ways.

First up is Huawei's AppGallery, the company’s new storefront for downloading Android apps, which includes the likes of Amazon Shopping, Deliveroo, Microsoft Office, Snapchat, TikTok, Tinder, Zoom and many, many more.

As for apps which aren't yet available in Huawei's AppGallery, such as Facebook or Instagram, users also have the option of simply copying over pre-installed apps from their previous Android phone using the handy Phone Clone app.

Alternatively, you could also use the Find Apps search widget, a new app-finding tool powered by the Petal Search Engine from Huawei which provides easy access to over a million Android apps from all over the web. Outside of Google apps and services, the world is your oyster when it comes to installing app APK files on your P40 Pro.

While it’s true that Google services like Gmail and YouTube aren't available in the AppGallery, both these services are fully available via the web, and the P40 Pro makes it easy to add ‘web app’ shortcuts to them on your home screen – which makes them act much like traditional ones.

With its world-class camera, 5G capabilities, svelte design and lightning fast hardware, the P40 Pro provides a premium Android experience that’s tough to beat – and with AU$200 off for EOFY, it’s also outstanding value.

Winners revealed: Discover our favourite PC gear in the 2020 Australian PC Awards!

In the fiercely competitive and innovative world of the PC, it’s always an exciting thrill seeing products and technologies come along, shake things up and move the industry forward. We use and choose good gear because of the performance on offer, the neat design, the new things it lets us do. We buy something for these reasons, and are always mindful of the value when comparing options.

It is these tangibles that drive the Australian PC Awards each year. The Awards are a joint undertaking by Future Australia’s key tech and game publications: TechRadar, PC Gamer, APC, TechLife and PC PowerPlay.

The editorial teams behind these magazines and sites live, love and breath tech and computing, and together we've distilled all of the most notable releases of 2019 across all of the critical PC categories.

This year, we've introduced a new and particularly exciting award. 'Excellence' is as broad a term as the world of technology itself, and in that big sea, our new Excellence Award is intended to highlight the person, product or technology that advanced the PC more than any other in 2019. We had a lot of fascinating debates coming up with the shortlist for this award – but once we had a list of finalists, there really was no contest when it came to choosing the irrefutably worthy winner.

We hope you agree with most of our expert team's choices. We know some may be slightly controversial, but what's undeniable is that across all of the finalists and winners are some superb products and technologies, many of which are being used and appreciated right at this moment by many of you.

We extend warm congratulations to the winners, and the people behind the products that work so hard to bring you the best.

Without further ado, we present to you the winners of the 2020 Australian PC Awards!

Plus there's more excitement to come, when we announce the winner of the Gold Award for best company on Monday April 6th – which was voted on by our audience. We hope you had your say!

Get the school holidays sorted with a Disney+ subscription

Finding shows and movies that'll keep the family entertained during the school holidays can be a tall order. With the recent arrival of Disney+ in Australia and New Zealand, however, that task just got a whole lot simpler.

The entire library of movies and shows on Disney+ is family friendly, so parents can count on it to keep kids safe from inappropriate content.

That makes Disney+ the ideal streaming service to satisfy your whole family these school holidays. Boasting a huge selection of TV shows and movies from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, National Geographic and 20th Century Fox, Disney+ truly has something for everyone in your household.

At AU$8.99 a month or AU$89.99 a year, it’s one of the most affordable streaming services in Australia, in a landscape where rivals can cost up to AU$19.99 a month. Disney+ is incredible value too, allowing subscribers to stream 4K video on selected content and compatible devices on up to four devices simultaneously; on other platforms, that's something you only get with the most expensive.

Moreover, the entire library of movies and TV series on Disney+ can be saved locally and viewed offline with no expiry date, meaning the kids can download their favourite shows to their tablets or phones and stay busy on long car trips – something we imagine most parents will be happy about!

With hundreds of films and shows to choose from – both classic and new – it's easy to find something to watch on Disney+, but to steer you in the right direction, we've compiled our top five school-holiday picks below.

The Mandalorian

Action packed and as cinematic as anything on the big screen, The Mandalorian is a show that's bound to make you ask, "Why did it take so long for a live action Star Wars series to get made?" While we can't say for sure, we have to imagine that Lucasfilm was just waiting for a service like Disney+ to make the whole endeavour something truly special. The series' titular Mandalorian is a lone gunslinger who makes a living by accepting bounties – and being extremely good at completing them. However, the usually-dependable bounty hunter's world is flipped upside down when he instead decides to save one of his targets from the shady people that hired him. Chances are you already know who this target is, but we won't spoil it for you if you're unaware. What we will say, however, is that he's likely to become one of your favourite characters in the entire Star Wars universe. This one's an absolute must watch for fans of Star Wars both young and old.

The Simpsons

The Simpsons

The Simpsons is undeniably the greatest animated sitcom of all time, and now it's available to stream on SVOD in Australia for the very first time!! Join Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie as they get up to all sorts of crazy hijinx. These aren't just a few episodes, either – Disney+ is hosting 29 seasons, which amounts to hundreds of hours of Simpsons hilarity to snack on! And, as we mentioned earlier, every one of those episodes is available to download to your smart device for offline viewing.

Home Alone

Home Alone

The premise of Home Alone is simple: an eight-year-old kid is accidentally left behind while his entire family goes on vacation, and finds himself fending off a couple of bumbling burglars with a series of comically over-the-top booby traps. In the wrong hands, this kind of material could've been insufferable. Instead, a delightfully playful and clever script by the late John Hughes (The Breakfast Club, Ferris Bueller's Day Off) and spot-on direction from Chris Columbus (Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone) resulted in pure magic. Some of that magic surely comes down to the casting of Macaulay Culkin, who in spite of his young age managed to find the perfect balance of precociousness and heart that his lead character demanded. A perfect family film for the holidays, Home Alone is a Christmas classic.

Lady and the Tramp

Lady and the Tramp

2019 was a big year for live-action versions of Disney films, with The Lion King, Aladdin and Dumbo offering new and spectacular big-screen interpretations of beloved classics. However, Disney somehow managed to save its most adorable live action re-imagining for the small screen with Lady and the Tramp. The updated version of this beautiful story once again follows a beloved house dog (Tessa Thompson) who meets and falls for a street mutt (Justin Theroux) with a heart of gold. It's a story that's just as heartwarming now as it was in the original animated film, which was released way back in 1955. A perfect family movie if ever there was one.

Frozen

Disney's Frozen

If you're a parent, chances are your kids are already obsessed with Frozen, the brilliant animated Disney film that's based on The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen. If that's the case, they're going to love the ability to download Frozen in the Disney+ app and watch it over and over again on their smart devices! Featuring the now classic songs 'Let It Go' and 'Do You Want To Build A Snowman?', Frozen also flips fairytale traditions on their heads, teaching girls that they don't need dashing princes to come and rescue them, and that they can be the masters of their own destinies.
