Intel announces 11th Gen Core H-series mobile processors for gaming laptops

Qualcomm’s second-gen ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is bigger and 50% faster

Fossil Gen 5 LTE costs $349 and let will let you take calls directly on the smartwatch

Jabra Elite 85t gets four new color options at CES 2021

Yes, CES is still happening but before we get into more specific launches, let’s talk about some of our favorite single out announcements. Beginning with Qualcomm as the company just launched the second generation to their ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. This new sensor is 77% larger than its predecessor and it works 50% faster, this improved sensor will reportedly debut with the S21, if history repeats itself. Intel just announced their 11th Gen Core H Series of mobile chips which power gaming laptops based on a 10nm process, supporting up to 5GHz clock speeds, PCIe Gen 4, Thunderbolt 4 and more features. But, 10nm huh Intel? The Jabra Elite 85Ts which are some of my favorite earbuds just got 4 new colorways, including Gold, Copper, Black and Grey in case you were waiting for some variety. Fossil just announced the Gen 5 LTE which brings a 45mm sleek design and it now allows you to take calls directly on the smartwatch which is pretty nice for $349. And guys, there’s so much more CES 2021 coverage on Pocketnow.com but, we have specific articles for each of these products and their details, in the links in the description.

AMD unleashes Zen 3-based Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors

NVIDIA unveils RTX 30 series laptop GPUs and GeForce RTX 3060 desktop graphics

Let’s keep talking about CES, we know that a lot of you guys like when we cover PC parts and well Nvidia and AMD are back at it again. Starting with AMD, they just unveiled their Ryzen 5000 Series of mobile processors, these are divided into 2 families, the H and the U Series. The H Series is targeted at gaming enthusiasts in both 6 and 8 core variants with peak clock speeds of 4.8GHz, interesting considering Intel is pushing 5GHz. When it comes to the U Series, these are aimed at ultra-books and the rest of mass market laptops, these range from 4 to 8 cores, with pretty much the same base specs as some of the H Series but only pushing up to 4.4GHz. AMD is looking at 23% higher single threaded performances and up to a 17% increase in multi-threaded performances. Moving on to Nvidia, the company just revealed the RTX 30 Series laptop GPUs and a RTX 3060 desktop GPU. These are based on their 3rd Gen Max Q technology, offering up to 2x ray tracing output, and the new tensor cores are claimed to be 2x more capable. Overall Nvidia is aiming at higher efficiency, better performance and refined acoustics here. Over 70 laptops with the RTX 30 Series will debut this month alone, so you can check out all of the specifics in the links below. For a minute there I was like – are we sure about that number or is it 7? But nope, 70 laptops.

HONOR announces MagicBook Pro, HONOR Band 6

Sticking to CES, let’s move on to Honor as, we know that the company went independent form Huawei a couple of months ago and they just announced their upcoming flagship products. First off we got the Honor MagicBook Pro which brings a 16.1in display with a 90% screen-to-body ratio. It’s powered by a 10th Gen Intel processor, along with 16GB of dual channel DDR4 RAM, and 512GB of PCIe NVMe SSD, when it comes to cooling it brings dual fans and dual heat pipes. It includes Bluetooth 5.0, an HDMI port, 3 USB A ports and a USB C port, as well as a headphone jack and a fingerprint sensor. It apparently charges up to 50% in just 30 minutes. Now, moving on to wearables we also got the Honor Band 6 which features a 1.47in AMOLED Display, supporting 10 workout modes and 14 days of battery life. It brings 5 ATM water resistance and it brings a heart rate monitor, oxygen monitor, sleep and stress monitor and even a female cycle tracker. It comes in three color variants including Meteorite Black, Sandstone Grey and Coral Pink. Sadly we didn’t get word on price tags yet but it should be on global markets very soon.

Is this the new design of the 2021 iPad Pro refresh?

Now let’s talk about Apple and particularly iPads as it does seem that Cupertino is planning an aggressive push here. Lately there’s been a ton of rumors on the upcoming iPads as, we’re expecting a refresh to the regular iPad and we’re supposed to get mini-LED displays on the Pros very soon. Now, we have some new CAD renders of both iPad Pro models coming from 91Mobiles and MySmartPrice. Starting with the bigger model, it looks like it’s bringing pretty much the same design language as the current model with the boxy design and the single USB-C port as well as the smart connector for the keyboard. The camera is still a dual module along with the LiDAR sensor. When it comes to the 11in version, it also looks like its predecessor which we got back in 2020 but, apparently it’s going to be a couple of millimeters thinner and shorter. The CAD renders also show that we might be getting a Touch ID sensor similar to the one on the iPad Air, and you can also notice it on the renders for the 12.9in iPad. We’re expecting these iPads some time this year, running on a variant of the A13 or A14 Bionic, along with a mini-LED display. It clearly seems that iPad sales are up given the pandemic if Apple plans to make a broader push and even bring a more aggressive price tag.

Story of the day:

Samsung Galaxy S21 retail box leak confirms the absence of a charger

Samsung unveils the 5nm-based Exynos 2100 flagship SoC that will power the Galaxy S21

And finally for the hottest news today, you guessed it. We’re literally a couple of days away from Samsung’s Unpacked but, there’s still a ton of leaks and information to Unpack here.. Let’s start with something official as Samsung just posted the full teaser for the S21 Series which is captioned “Welcome to the Everyday Epic”. It teases a lot of camera capabilities, mainly video, low light and zoom. It shows the silhouette of the device and some software tricks as well. Sticking to what’s official, the company just announced the Exynos 2100 which will power the S21 depending on your region. It is a 5G-ready chip based on a 5nm process and a tri-cluster core design allowing for a 30% increase in multi-core performance and 40% boost in graphics performance. It allows some crazy tricks like handling 6 cameras and 200MP resolution output, as well as handling 4K panels at up to 120Hz, or QHD+ at 144Hz but, we won’t bore you with specifics, we’ll have a specific link for this in the description. Back to the S21, we have some new posters showing off the design yet again, as well as teasing the 5G capabilities, the storage tiers and the camera. Now, the poster getting the most headlines is the one showing off the box and as you can see, it’s very thin. Meaning it’s pretty much official that we won’t be getting a charger or headphones this year. Go Green! And remember, you can already register for the S21 and get some perks, in the first link in the description. So yeah, with that teaser and all of the other posters, seriously what’s left?

Pocketnow Daily: iPhone 12 Pro Durability Tests & Secret Features Revealed! (video)

Google Pixel 4a, iPads and more devices are on sale today

The official news today begin with deals as per usual, cause even installment plans actually make sense right now. For example the Google Pixel 4a is currently available for a $5 a month on Verizon. Of course there’s specific restrictions but, you’ll be getting an Unlimited Plan and you’ll end up paying $128 for the 128GB variant. I know international kids, don’t laugh about how expensive plans are in the US. Moving on to B&H, the LG G8 ThinQ is currently $450 off, leaving it at $500 from it’s original price tag. Moving on to Amazon, we have your daily dose of Apple deals, for example the latest 11in iPad Pro is $50 off, leaving the 128GB of storage variant for $750. The Apple Watch Series 5 is also $79 off, leaving the 44mm variant for $350. We have more deals on Apple products, Razer peripherals. Jabra earbuds and more in the links in the description.

Insta360 ONE X2 launches as the ultimate personal 360-degree camera

Now let’s move on to official news, and particularly for one of the companies that continues to have my favorite approach to action cams and that keeps 360 degree video alive. Insta360 just launched their new One X2. This is a pocket camera designed to replace a multi-cam setup to give you ultra wide video, panoramas, and of course, 360 degree video. It brings several changes from the original model, like a new 1630 mAh battery which let’s you shoot for up to 80 minutes, a new HD touch screen to preview your shot and that also includes 360 degree video, It’s also water resistant up to 33 feet with no case and it brings four microphones. The camera also brings improved performance, and their new AI tech let’s you change focus and other things while editing it, which you couldn’t do before. It’s currently available for $430 in Adorama and B&H. Really the only thing I’m curious about is if you still need to use their software to be able to edit their videos, cause that’s the only thing I still struggle with.

AMD unleashes Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs based on RDNA 2 architecture

And would you look at that, the cool part about TechTober is that official news actually superseed the typical rumor mill. AMD just unveiled three new GPUs for their RX 6000 series. Basically these 3 graphic cards bring RDNA 2 architecture and they undercut Nvidia’s RTX 30 series in price tag and manage to still bring somewhat of a comparable performance as well as lower power consumption. For context, this is the same architecture powering the PS5 and the Xbox Series X. This new lineup starts at $579 with the RX 68000 which competes with the $1199 RTX 2080 Ti which is from last generation. Next up, you get the Rx 6800 XT which directly competes with the Nvidia RTX 3080, offering you 4K and 1440p gaming with 16GB of GDDR6 memory for $649. Finally, you get the RX 6900 XT flagship which is aimed at 8K gamers, and it’ll set you back at $999. We got more technical details in the description but with these prices, why would the average consumer go for the Nvidia cards? Of course, they’re still crazy powerful but, AMD’s prices just make more sense.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 2 could still arrive in the first half of 2021

Now let’s move the spotlight over to Samsung, for those of you that thought we weren’t gonna cover leaks today. Ross Young is already talking about the Galaxy Z Flip 2. According to his latest tweet, he claims that the Z Flip 2 won’t be launched with the Galaxy S21 but it will be launched in the Spring and he is impressed with the upgrades we’re getting. If you think about it, this makes a lot of sense because all of the rumors hint to the Galaxy S launching way earlier, either late January or February, so a later Spring launch for the Z Flip would help Samsung stay in the spotlight. We’re expecting this Z Flip 2, to bring both 4G and 5G connectivity but other than that, we don’t have a lot of information on this Z Flip 2, other than these upgrades Ross Young is talking about, which he doesn’t really mention. I know I want a larger outer display but let us know what you guys would like to see to care about this phone.

Apple could be working on its own search engine to replace Google

Now let’s flip on over to the boring politics section, and what companies are doing about it. If you remember, about a week ago we covered how Google was being sued and one of the reasons was, the deal they have with Apple to be their exclusive search engine. Well, as of now, Google reportedly pays $10-12B to be Apple’s main search provider but, thanks to this lawsuit, it may end. And now a new report claims that Cupertino is silently working on a new Search Engine to replace Google in case their deal is blocked. It’s still unclear whether this engine will be a full-blown website like Google, or just an enhanced Spotlight Search, which is already linking websites directly, bypassing Google. These payments from Google reportedly make around 20% of Apple’s revenue which is, a huge deal. Apple will most likely try to build this new solution around privacy so, let’s see what we end up getting cause if Siri is going to be the backbone of this service, who knows if it’ll actually work out.

Story of the day:

iPhone 12 Pro’s Ceramic Shield doesn’t help against scratches

Apple iPhone 12 series supports reverse wireless charging, but it’s hidden: FCC filing

And finally the hottest news today have to do with Apple, and the things they don’t tell you until they’re discovered in teardowns. And yes, it happened, the iPhone 12 Pro just went through Zack’s JerryRigEverything’s Durability test, revealing some stuff that we were waiting to confirm. If you follow me on Twitter, and you definitely should, you probably saw that I scratched my 12 Pro within the first 5 minutes after unboxing it because I stacked the phones together and it obviously made me question the Ceramic Shield. Well, on Zack’s teardown he confirmed that even with the new technology it still scratches at a level 6 with deeper grooves at level 7, however he did say that the level 6 scratches aren’t as noticeable when compared to other glass panels. And he also said that thanks to the build and the ceramic shield this phone should be more drop resistant, which other channels have confirmed. His video will be linked in the description but, let’s move on to other things we didn’t know about the iPhone 12. According to a new FCC filing, the iPhone 12 has a “dormant” reverse wireless charging feature through MagSafe at 360kHz, “perhaps for an external Apple accessory in the future”. A couple of days ago we covered how we should be getting new AirPods soon so, maybe Apple is waiting until they release those for them to enable the feature and advertise it, and since the iPhone has magnets, it might actually make sense

AMD unleashes Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs based on RDNA 2 architecture

AMD has unveiled its new Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs based on the RDNA2 architecture, and all of them are aimed squarely at NVIDIA’s top-of-the-line RTX 3000 series graphics solutions. The latest offerings from AMD include the Radeon RX 6800, Radeon RX 6800 XT, and the fire-breathing Radeon RX6900T. AMD touts a 3x boost in performance and up to 54% higher performance per watt when compared to GPUs based on the first-gen RDNA architecture. Oher innovations include more energy-efficient compute units, the new AMD Infinity Cache technology, hardware-accelerated ray-tracing, and support for DirectX12 Ultimate among others.

Price starts at $579, hits the shelves early next month

AMD has 1440p as well as 4K gaming in mind, and from the benchmark comparisons we saw on-stage, these are the GPU duels AMD has in mind – Radeon RX 6900 XT vs NVIDIA RTX 3090, Radeon RX 6800 XT vs NVIDIA RTX 3080, and Radeon RX 6800 vs NVIDIA 2080 Ti. Here’s a quick overview of the three new AMD Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards detailing their clock speeds (base and boost), number of CUs, cache, and more.

16GB GDDR6 memory and 128MB cache for all three GPUs

All three AMD Radeon RX 6000 series GPUs pack 16GB of graphics memory, but it is the GDDR6 standard we’re talking about, and not the faster (and more power-hungry) GDDR6X modules inside NVIDIA’s latest cards. Plus, the cache memory is set at 128MB on all three offerings, backed by the AMD Infinity Cache technology that is claimed to deliver higher bandwidth performance at lower power and latency. The company claims that its new solution offers up to 3.25x higher effective bandwidth compared to 256-bit 16 Gbps GDDR6 setup.

Image
Image: AMD

AMD noted that the in-house FidelityFX toolkit will work in tandem with DirectX Raytracing to deliver improved post-process visual effects for offering superior control over shadows, lighting, and reflections in games. Variable Rate Shading is also onboard, and support for Microsoft’s DirectStorage API is there to ensure quick load times. The new Radeon Anti-Lag feature will also be there to provide a faster response by reducing input-to-display response times while gaming.

Image
Image: AMD

The Radeon RX 6800 is priced at $579, while the Radeon RX 6800 XT will set you back by $649. Both the aforementioned graphics cards will be available starting November 18 from the AMD website and authorized retail partners. As for the enthusiast-class Radeon RX 6900 XT, it costs $999 and will hit the shelves starting December 8. AMD’s new graphics cards arrive merely a few weeks after the company unveiled the Zen 3-based Ryzen 5000 series desktop processors that will also go on sale early next month. You can check out the detailed comparison of the new AMD Radeon RX 6000 series graphics cards here

HONOR MagicBook 14 review (2020)

HUAWEI, and its sub-brand, HONOR, have been present in the laptop landscape for quite some time, but it’s only been the past couple of years that the two companies really started to make waves. HUAWEI offers really high-tier, premium products, as we’ve seen with the occasion of our MateBook X Pro review, and HONOR is doing a great job at bringing premium quality and design, as well as performance, to the more affordable segment.

The HONOR MagicBook 14 hasn’t changed much, if at all, compared to the previous generation, in terms of its design. However, the 2020 model, announced at IFA, brings a serious spec-bump with the addition of AMD’s Ryzen 5 4500U chip, a step up from the previously used 3500U.

In our HONOR MagicBook 14 review (2020), we’re taking a look at whether you get the most bang for your buck if you decide to purchase this laptop.

HONOR MagicBook 14

Hardware

Those familiar with the previous generation will be right at home when it comes to the MagicBook 14. If, however, this is going to be your first time with the computer, you should expect a solid build mostly of aluminum and some plastic.

The laptop is available in Mystic Silver, and Space Gray, the unit we’re currently reviewing. While the case itself is indeed Space Gray, the logo on the top, as well as the chamfers, have a nice blue tone to them, which gives it an extra flashy, but subtle look at the same time.

HONOR MagicBook 14

Taking a look around the MagicBook 14, on the right side you’ll find a 3.5mm headphone port, next to a full-size USB3.2 Gen 1 (Type A). On the left-hand side, you get a USB Type-C, an HDMI, and a full-size USB2.0 (Type A) port.

The bottom features a slightly raised design in order for air to easily find its way underneath the laptop, and inside, through the grill that runs almost the entire width of the device. This is also where the speaker grills reside, one on each side for stereo sound.

HONOR MagicBook 14

Opening up the lid reveals, as its name implies, a 14-inch display with rather small bezels, thanks to HONOR inheriting the webcam approach from HUAWEI. The display has a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, which is FHD, and an aspect ratio of 16:9. Said small bezels result in a screen-to-body ratio of 84%, which is not the largest out there, but it’s definitely nice to look at, granted, hindered only by the fairly large bottom bezel.

The panel is an IPS LCD, and HONOR claims a brightness of 250 nits and an 800:1 contrast ratio. The matte finish of the display ensures no reflections and the colors are nice and punchy. About the only thing we can nitpick on is outdoor visibility which is a tad difficult in bright environments, as well as the viewing angles, which are narrower compared to a higher-end laptops, but definitely not a dealbreaker.

HONOR MagicBook 14

The keyboard is full size, with nice and pleasant key travel. Keys size and spacing ensure comfortable typing and the backlight is nice and even with little to no bleeding, illuminating clearly each key in the dark.

The touchpad offers a great experience as well. Despite being plastic, it doesn’t pose any usability issues. Clicks are firm and gestures work as they should.

On the top right there’s a round power button which also has the fingerprint scanner embedded in it. What’s worth mentioning here is that if you turn on the computer with the finger you enrolled as your fingerprint authentication, Windows will automatically sign you in without the need to authenticate or touch the button again.

HONOR MagicBook 14

Inside you’ll find the new AMD Ryzen 5 4500U processor, paired with AMD Radeon Graphics. The chip is a six-core CPU with six threads, built on the 7nm technology, and has an 8MB L3 Cache. Depending on the market, the laptop is available with either 8- or 16GB of memory, and the same goes for storage with 256- and 512GB versions.

HONOR MagicBook 14

…and then the webcam, which is always a polarizing topic when it comes to HONOR and HUAWEI laptops. The dreaded “nosecam” title still remains, but HONOR, just like HUAWEI, stresses on the privacy issue, and they’re right. A camera that’s tucked inside the keyboard will most likely not reveal anything about you even if hacked. Once you pop it open, the only downside is the awkward viewing angle, but you’ll get used to it (or buy a separate webcam if you have to).

HONOR MagicBook 14

Performance and battery life

Our review unit has 8GB of RAM and 512GB of storage. While it is by no means a powerhouse gaming machine, it gets the job done if you’re ok with playing titles that are not demanding. You might also need to tweak the game’s settings to a lower resolution to be easier on the graphics card.

That being said, all other mundane tasks are being handled without issues. Whether it’s work (documents, spreadsheets, browsing, emails, video calls, etc.) or entertainment (YouTube, Netflix, listening to music, basic photo manipulation), it gets the job done without any issues.

HONOR MagicBook 14

We’re not huge fans of benchmarks here on Pocketnow, but for those of you who are, here are some of the results from the tests we ran:

In terms of battery life, the 56Wh unit inside the MagicBook 14 did a great job. It will last for an entire day if you do lightweight office work. To get a better sense of how much juice you can squeeze out of the battery, it should last you a tad above 11 hours of YouTube videos with the display brightness cranked up to the maximum, and close to 13 hours of constant browsing.

Software and experience

In terms of software, the MagicBook 14 ships with Windows 10 out of the box. After a couple of updates to the operating system, drivers, and firmware, once you’re up to date, the entire experience is smooth. Not much to report here, things are working, behaving, and performing as they should.

A special mention goes to HONOR MagicLink, which is the company’s take on HUAWEI Share. It acts and behaves the same way, allowing you to link up your compatible HONOR or HUAWEI phone to the computer so that you can mirror your display, and do some other tasks.

HONOR MagicBook 14

The sticker on the laptop is basically an NFC tag which, once scanned, will pair your phone to the computer. NFC, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi will have to be enabled on both devices. Once paired, your smartphone’s home screen will appear windowed so that you can take calls, send texts, chat, as well as drag and drop files among the two devices seamlessly. This includes images, texts, documents, and real-world scenarios include dragging a photo from your phone straight into a document or presentation.

There’s also a shared clipboard feature where you can access content copied on one device on the other one. Overall, it’s a great experience, with one caveat: your smartphone has to be HONOR or HUAWEI to access this Multi-Screen Collaboration feature.

HONOR MagicBook 14

The overall experience is top-notch. We absolutely like the display, as well as the sound produced by the speakers. Considering the affordable price tag, we’ve experienced poorer sound quality on more expensive laptops, so props to HONOR for this.

The system doesn’t overheat, thanks mostly to the huge grill vent we talked about in the Design segment. The fans are doing a great job at keeping it from overheating, but you’ll have to get used to them hissing if you’re in Performance mode and you’re undertaking demanding tasks.

For day-to-day lightweight operation, they barely fire up while the system stays nice and cool and stable.

HONOR MagicBook 14

Conclusion

The HONOR MagicBook 14 was already a great choice when it ran the older version of the processor. Now, with the upgraded 4500U chip, the 2020 model not only outperforms other laptops in its class and price range, but it also manages, like an overachiever that it is, to sometimes get closer and bridge the gap to that high-end segment.

But not everything’s roses and rainbows. Our cons category includes the “nosecam”, a rather heavy build at 1.4kg, and I/O could be somewhat better.

However, for (currently on sale) €749,90 or £669.99 respectively, it’s affordable enough to overlook the aforementioned cons. The price is for the model we’ve been using, in an 8GB and 512GB configuration.

Pros

  • Great design, premium materials;
  • Really nice display;
  • Great performance;
  • Excellent battery life;
  • Speakers are loud;
  • Integration with HUAWEI smartphones via HUAWEI Share.

Cons

  • Not recommended for graphics-intense operations;
  • Pop-up webcam’s angle is something you’ll have to get used to;
  • A tad heavy at 1.4kg;
  • I/O could be better;
  • If you’re in the U.S. you’ll likely need to import it, which will add to the price.

AMD unveils Zen 3 Ryzen 5000 series desktop processors, arriving on November 5

Now let’s talk about AMD, particularly because of how the company continues to make Intel look bad lately. The company revealed their latest line up of processors with the Ryzen 5000 Series. These are built with their new Zen 3 architecture and they are based on a 7nm process. We’re not going to get into too much technical detail but, their new Ryzen 9 5950X brings 16 Cores, and it has a boost frequency of 4.9GHz, and the company claims that this is the highest single thread performance in the market, we’ll have to wait for Linus to confirm that after he segues from his sponsor. It offers a 26% performance improvement over the Ryzen 3000 Series and they claim 21% higher performance than Intel’s top of the line Core i9.. The processors start at $299 with the 6-core Ryzen 5 5600X and the decked out 5950X will cost you $799. All of the 4 new processors will be available on November 5th. All I can say is that it’s amazing how tables get turned over time, as there was a time where AMD wouldn’t dream of catching up to Intel.

Sony’s PlayStation 5 teardown reveals liquid metal cooling and an ingenious stand

And now it’s time to talk Sony, particularly with the company’s PS5. They’re not pulling any punches as the company published an official teardown of the console a couple of days ago. Let’s just start off by saying, this thing is huge, like huge. At the front you get a single USB Type A and a USB type C port but, you get two USB A ports with SuperSpeed at the back, an Ethernet Port, an HDMI and of course, the power port. It also has a PCIe 4.0 port on the inside for future storage expansion. It has air vents up front and the whole back is an exhaust port. You can remove the screwable base to set it horizontally and the white sides are removable as well. Now, the thing that probably made the most buzz is the cooling, you got a huge fan at the top of the console which draws from both sides and more importantly the liquid metal cooling which is close to the SoC under the casing and other layers. We highly recommend you watch the complete teardown if you’re planning on purchasing as, he goes into detail on the GPU, CPU, the heatsink and pretty much everything you need to know about the hardware. A lot of people are concerned on the liquid cooling so, we’ll see how it ages.

OnePlus will launch two TWS earbuds next week, and here’s your first look at one of them

Here’s your first official look at the OnePlus 8T design ahead of its launch

OnePlus 8T leaked renders reveal Lunar Silver and Aquamarine Green color options

Now, the OnePlus 8T isn’t the only thing we’re waiting on from OnePlus, apparently we’re getting two new True Wireless Earbuds. And, remember that joke I made on them not looking like the AirPods and looking like the AirPods Pro? Well… We have some new leaked renders from XDA of the OnePlus Buds Z which were recovered from an APK file. The leaks show off the white variant for these Buds and well, yeah. They look like the AirPods Pro, they even bring the ear tips, probably the only difference is that the back of the EarBud is the same one on the regular OnePlus Buds. The casing is also shorter and wider, with the OnePlus logo at the top and a USB-C port at the back. OnePlus also fully revealed themselves the official design for the 8T. It brings the leaked Aquamarine color variant with the stove at the back and like usual, it looks kind of better than what we got from the renders before. Sadly, they didn’t show the front of the phone but, that doesn’t matter as we now have some CAD renders for the phone from a reliable tipster showing both sides. It brings the updated camera module that OnePlus leaked yesterday and the punch hole at the front. From these renders you can kind of see that the bezels are somewhat smaller. These renders also reveal another color variant which will reportedly be dubbed Lunar Silver. Let me know what you think about this design as, it looks kind of Galaxy S20ish to me.

Apple is working on two AirPods Studio variants, but they won’t debut next week

Now let’s talk Apple as while we were sleeping, Jon Prosser was hard at work tweeting a ton of details on Apple’s upcoming event but more of what we’re not getting from the event. First off, he mentioned that DigiTimes was right to say that the iPhones that will be available in October are going to be the 6.1 iPhone 12 and the 6.1 12 Pro, the 12 Mini and the Pro Max will be the ones launched until November. He also said that the starting price for the Mini is $649 after all, according to his source. After that he said that AirPods Studio have not completed mass production so they will be left out from the event. However, he did give us a price tag, apparently the luxury variant made out of metal and leather will cost $599 but don’t worry, there is a sport-like variant with cheaper materials for $350. And, let’s stay on that negative note for a bit as, he also said that AirTags have been pushed back, at least until March of 2021 so, it looks like another AirPower case but we hope it doesn’t turn into that because they do look interesting. But finally, let’s get to availability, he still stands by the dates he gave us previously with pre-orders beginning on October 16th and they will be in stores by October 23rd for the 12 and 12 Pro. But hold on, we have more in the next segment.

Story of the day:

Massive Apple leak reveals almost everything about the iPhone 12 series

But alright, for the hottest news today, get some pop corn as we have a huge leak from Weibo of everything else you want to know for this Apple Event. Of course we should take all of these leaks with a grain of salt but let’s begin. Apparently the company is going to begin the event with the HomePod Mini which will be a 3.3in speaker with their S5 Processor, it will be priced at $99 and it will be available on November 6th. After that, they’re not losing any time and going straight to the iPhone 12. They’ll begin with the 5.4in 12 Mini which according to him, will start at $699. Then they’re moving on to the 6.1in iPhone 12 which will start at $799. Moving on to the Pros, the 6.1in will start at $999 and will get a new graphite and blue color variant. The 12 Pro Max will start at $1099 with those same colors. All of these will be 5G models and the US variants will bring mmWave. The 12 and the 12 Mini will start at 64GB of storage and go up to 256GB while the Pros will start at 128GB and go up to 512GB. All of them will bring Super Retina XDR displays, a new Magsafe 15W wireless charging and all phones are Dolby Vision capable. They will also use a Smart Data Mode to save power by only using the 5G power for heavy duty apps. Moving on to the cameras, he claims the source isn’t too clear on this one. The 12 and the 12 Mini will bring dual cameras with the main sensor and an ultra wide so, basically the iPhone 11. Deep Fusion and Smart HDR are both getting upgrades. The Pros will bring a triple camera array with the main sensor, the ultra wide a telephoto and a LiDAR sensor, they reportedly bring up to 5x optical zoom. Finally, according to him, the 6.1in 12 and the 12 Pro will be available on October 23rd like Prosser, the Mini will be available on November 13th and the Pro Max on November 20th. Sadly, he didn’t mention any other hardware but we hope that’s not the case.

AMD unveils new Zen-based Ryzen and Athlon series processors for Chromebooks

When it comes to Chromebooks, machines powered by AMD silicon usually employ the low-end A-series APUs that are intended for basic usage. With the advent of premium Chromebooks in the market from the likes of HP and Google, Intel capitalized on this segment with open arms, while AMD focused elsewhere. AMD is now taking the fight to Intel in this segment as well by launching five new mobile processors based on Zen architecture that are designed specifically for Chromebooks. AMD’s new Ryzen 3000 C and Athlon 3000 C series offerings are the first processors that will introduce AMD’s Zen architecture on Chromebooks and also mark the debut of Ryzen silicon on Chrome OS devices.

The new AMD Ryzen 7 3700C and Ryzen 5 3500C mobile processors are based on the Zen+ architecture, while the Ryzen 3 3250C, Athlon Gold 3150C and Athlon Silver 3050C processors rely on the first-gen Zen architecture. To recall, AMD currently sells Zen 2-based processors and is on the verge of debuting the Zen 3 architecture which might be revealed later this year as per multiple leaks. The new AMD Ryzen and Athlon processors also come with the in-house Radeon Vega graphics, which is claimed to give a huge boost to the graphics prowess of Chromebooks.

Despite the different family lines, there are a few similarities between the five new AMD processors. To start, all five processors are targeting a default TDP of 15W. However, the Ryzen 3 3250C shares its 14nm fabrication process with the Athlon Gold 3150C and Athlon Silver 3050C. The AMD Ryzen 7 3700C and Ryzen 5 3500C processors, on the other hand, are based on the more efficient 12nm process. AMD says the first wave of laptops powered by the new AMD Ryzen 3000 C and AMD Athlon 3000 C series mobile processors will arrive in Q4 2020 from Acer, ASUS, HP, and Lenovo

With the arrival of its new silicon, AMD is also drawing the lines for how each processor family will fit inside Chromebooks. The AMD A-series will be destined for entry-level Chrome OS machines, while the Athlon 3000 C series will be aimed at mid-level Chromebooks that can handle multitasking and a little bit of gaming. As for the Ryzen 3000 C family, it will be reserved for premium Chromebooks targeted at demanding users.

We could find Samsung and AMD components in the next Nintendo Switch

It seems that Nintendo may want to make some changes with the components of the successor of the Nintendo Switch. It appears that the company would shift towards creating a new handheld/home console hybrid under the same Switch platform. However, this new console may stop including Nvidia’s products, since they may not be adequate, at least as far as its CPU goes, and here is where Samsung’s graphic partnership with AMD may deliver a great alternative, if not, the best solution.

According to rumors, we could see Samsung and AMD components in the successor of the Nintendo Switch. We know that the latest strategic partnership between Samsung and AMD would make Samsung Exynos processors include custom AMD Radeon graphics, to deliver groundbreaking graphics products, and these would be great for Nintendo’s plans. Now, there are no signs of a new Nintendo Switch console arriving anytime soon, so that would give Samsung and AMD more than enough time to create something amazing.

We already know that AMD’s RDNA architecture will be preset in the next Playstation, so it would also be interesting to see these components in a future Nintendo Switch. However, these are still rumors, and nothing has been confirmed, so we will have to wait and see how things unfold.
