Apple lowering iPhone 12 Mini production due to ‘far lower’ demand than expected

Let’s switch to reports and rumors before we take it back to the hottest news and, this time it’s about iPhones. Earlier this year we had a report from DigiTimes claiming that Apple would scale back iPhone 13 mini production due to low demand. Well, according to a new Nikkei Asia report, iPhone 12 mini sales have been far lower than Apple initially expected prompting the company to cut down orders for the mini from their original plan for the first half of the year.. Pretty much confirmation to what we heard earlier. The report mentions that some suppliers were even asked to stop building components that were specifically for the mini. Apparently Cupertino will cut planned production by more than 70% at least for the time being. That being said, Apple reportedly plans to cut production of all models by 20% so, the mini is taking a 50% cutback which is still huge. Many analysts claim that the low sales are because the iPhone 11 and 12 have similar prices and offer larger displays and batteries for a almost the same price. Let’s see what ends up happening with the 2021 line up if the mini doesn’t pick up over the rest of the year.

ASUS ROG Phone 5 Ultimate has more RAM than my gaming PC

But alright, let’s get back to official news as, we just got the ROG Phone 5 Series and well it sounds great, but I’m not sure about the looks. well it sounds Michael Fisher showed me his Ultimate unit yesterday and while he loves it, struggling with not assuming it’s a white phone with a broken back. The company took to the virtual stage to introduce 3 new gaming smartphones, the ROG Phone 5, 5 Pro and the 5 Ultimate. Of course we’ll be focusing on the Ultimate here which brings a 6.78-inch AMOLED Display running at 144 Hz with 300 Hz touch sampling. It is powered by the Snapdragon 888 SoC, along with 18 gigs RAM, I know… 18 GIGS OF RAM, half a terabyte of non expandable storage that allows support for external hard drives through NTFS, and a massive 6000 mAh battery. I mean those numbers almost sound illegal in certain countries.. Meaning damn Asus is NOT playing around. When it comes to the cameras, you get a 64 megapixel main sensor from Sony, a 13 megapixel ultra wide and ugh, I don’t even know why they bother with the 5 megapixel Macro. The phone still comes with the Air Triggers at the top with the higher-end models bringing other extra buttons as well and you can still buy the gaming pad separately. The base model for the ROG Phone 5 starts at 800 Euros, the Rog Phone 5 Pro goes for 1200 Euros, while the Ultimate will cost you 1300 Euros. If you’re interested in availability and other details, make sure you check out the links in the description.

Apple AirPods 3 alleged first look is here

Apple AirPods 3 appear in alleged real-life images. Take a look!

Let’s move the spotlight back on to Apple but, not for the products you would expect, let’s talk AirPods. We’ve been waiting on the third generation AirPods for quite some time and rumors hint that we could get them at Apple’s upcoming March Event. Now we have a new report from Gizmochina that shows some renders of the AirPods 3 which were apparently based on images from suppliers. From the renders you can notice the shorter stem and the vents at the top, showing a ton of resemblance to the current AirPods Pro, but without the silicone tips. The case is also shrinking down a bit and getting wider. We also have some IRL images of these headphones from a tipster on Twitter that, doesn’t have the greatest track record, but these look like the real deal. So yeah, these are pretty much turning into AirPods Pro when it comes to design but lacking the actual Pro features like Active Noise Cancelling. Again, we’re expecting these at the March Event which is reportedly 13 days away so, we’ll keep you posted if we get more leaks.

Story of the day:

OnePlus confirms a 50MP ultra-wide camera for its upcoming flagship

Pete Lau teases OnePlus 9 Pro’s UW camera capabilities

And finally, for the hottest news today let’s talk OnePlus as, they have managed to take up a great amount of the spotlight today, which makes sense as we get close to the OnePlus 9 Event. Pete Lau has been on a sort of Ming Chi Kuo type of run these past couple of days, with the exception that what he says aren’t predictions. First he revealed that we will be getting a charger, and now he confirmed that we will be getting a 50 megapixel ultra wide camera for the 9 Pro with a Sony IMX766 Sensor. He also showed some sample images where, apparently they took 2 ultra wide images and you can definitely see that there is way less distortion on the 9 Pro, but of course, we’ll have to test that to see how accurate it is. Now, speaking of that camera, MKBHD posted a picture of the new “Pro” UI that reportedly comes thanks to the Hasselblad partnership that the company has been teasing. From this picture we can see how the Pro mode let’s you control Shutter Speed, ISO, Focus and more. So, we’re currently expecting three phones from OnePlus, the 9R, the 9 and the 9 Pro. The 9 Pro will reportedly pack a 6.78-inch display, running at 120Hz, Snapdragon 888 5G, 8 or 12 gigs of RAM and your typical amount of storage. From all these teasers and leaks they’re focusing a lot on the camera, where we should expect a 48 megapixel main sensor, that 50 megapixel ultra wide, and then two other cameras that are still pending to be leaked.

Apple’s latest iPad Air, HP Chromebooks and more on sale today

The Google Pixel 5, OtterBox cases and more devices are on sale today

As expected, let’s end the week with deals. Starting with the Google Pixel 5 and Amazon which is currently 150 dollars off. That leaves the entry level model for 789 with free shipping involved. If you really want a Pixel, the Pixel 4 is also available for 250 dollars off its original price tag, leaving it at 549 dollars. The Sony Xperia 1 Mark II which we know a lot of you like is 102 dollars off, leaving it at 1098 and yeah, that’s still pretty expensive. The OnePlus 8T is still 60 dollars off, leaving it at 689 dollars shipped which is a pretty ok deal. If you’re looking for an iPad, the new iPad Air which I’m currently rocking is 50 dollars off, leaving it at 699 dollars. Samsung’s trade-in deals are still available, leaving the Galaxy S21 Ultra for just 499 dollars and giving you 250 dollars in instant credit, but if you have an eligible device. We have more deals on Google Nest Speakers, Hisense TVs which are some of my favorites, plus Chromebooks and more.

ASUS ROG Phone 5 to launch on March 10

Moving on to the ASUS ROG Phone 5 and yes, they’ll be pulling a OnePlus and skipping the number 4. For the past couple of weeks we’ve been getting a ton of leaks and rumors, including Geekbench listings and teasers from the company. Now when you go to the ASUS ROG Phone 5 landing page, it has a countdown that ends in 18 days and 20 hours at the time when Diego was writing the script. So yes, we’ll be getting this phone on March 10 at 6:00AM ET. The ROG Phone 5 is tipped to bring a 6.78 inch display, powered by the Snapdragon 888 SoC, 8GB or 16GB of RAM, a 6000 mAh battery, running on Android 11. According to the leaks we should also be getting a dot matrix display on the rear panel, kind of like the panel you get on some ROG Gaming Laptops. We don’t have any price tags just yet, but we hope ASUS surprises us with some wow factors as, is it just me or it sounds kind of boring?

Malware targeting Apple’s new M1 Macs has already been spotted in the wild

Let’s talk about Apple Silicon Macs but, not for the reasons you would typically expect. We have a new report from a Mac security researcher cited by Wired, that explains in detail how malware is being adapted and recompiled to run natively on M1 Macs. He discovered the first one to be a Safari Extension called “GoSearch22” which was originally written to run on x86 Intel Macs. As they usually do, it presents itself as a regular Safari extension but, it collects your data and serves you a ton of banners and pop up ads, including ones that link you to malicious websites with malware. Now, the writer mentions that since malware is still at an early stage, antivirus scanners are not detecting the malware as easily and effectively as they do on Intel Macs as most of the tools haven’t been adapted or are simply not available just yet. Of course, all of this is bound to change as Apple expands their line-up.. Hopefully very soon.. And developers start patching these up and bringing antivirus software. We’ll make sure to link to the report in the description as, it’s still pretty interesting.

OnePlus 9 Pro might use an LTPO display to enable adaptive refresh rate

Let’s talk about the OnePlus 9 Series as, we’re getting pretty close to it. So far, the leaks for the OnePlus 9 have been kind of calm, I mean of course we had the design heavily leaked last week but for the other features, things have been kinda quiet. Now, we have a new tweet from Max Jambor that shines some light on what we could expect from the 9 Pro’s display. In his typical fashion, he didn’t share much on the tweet but it brings an image with the words, 9 Pro LTPO, on top of a display that looks like it’s scrolling at a high refresh rate. This also means that we should expect the 9 Pro to feature adaptive refresh rate like we get on the Galaxy S21 Series. For those of you who don’t know, this feature uses software to automatically change your refresh rate, depending on what you’re doing with the phone and giving you better battery life in the process. According to the guys over at PhoneArena, Jambor also confirmed that the regular OnePlus 9 won’t bring this feature, but it should still bring 120Hz. Now, according to surveys on OnePlus fans, they like their display permanently set at 120Hz so, this might be kind of a turn off for them but I mean, high refresh rate, better battery life.. Sounds good to me.

Story of the day:

Apple reportedly locks March 16 event to launch new iPads, and possibly, AirTags too!

And finally, for the hottest news today let’s talk Apple, as we’re just a few days away from March and we’re expecting to get a lot of products at this March Event. We have a new report from Korea’s Economic Daily News that claims that Cupertino will be having their Event Virtually on March 16th. Now, Apple has recently been doing this event a little later but, this date actually makes sense. See, according to the report the main focus here will be the new iPad Pros, and the original iPad Pro was announced on March 18 back in the day. Speaking of that iPad Pro, the report mentions that we shouldn’t expect a complete redesign, pretty much like what the leaks have pointed out but, this iPad could finally bring mini-LED displays and it will most likely be the first 5G iPad. And along with 5G we could also be getting additional built in magnets for new accessories. Apparently we could also be getting a new iPad mini which could be getting a larger display by shrinking down the bezels, at least to the older iPad Air’s level of course. The report also mentions that we could get a One More Thing moment to Tag along with.. AirTags. These trackers have been on the leaks since 2019 and according to trusted sources, they’re finally set to release. Other tipsters claim that we could also get new AirPods but, those rumors are kinda shaky.

ASUS ROG Phone 5’s slightly different variant spotted on TENAA

Asus ROG Phone 5 seems to be just around the corner. The company has teased its arrival already. Plus, live hands-on images and Geekbench listing of the device with 8GB RAM have also surfaced online. It also leaked in a 16GB RAM variant. All of these leaks were related to the ASUS_I005DA model number. Now, ASUS_I005DB model number has been spotted on China’s TENAA. This is a slightly different variant of the previously leaked phone.

The ASUS_I005DB ROG Phone 5 has some design changes. It does not seem to feature the RGB-lit LED ROG logo and Tencent Games logo. It could be the global variant of the upcoming gaming phone. Further, the secondary screen seen in the leaks of I005DA model is not visible on the I005DB variant. However, the TENAA listing says that it is equipped with two displays.

The ASUS ROG Phone 5 is tipped to feature a 6.78-inch display and pack a 6,000mAh battery capacity (two 3,000mAh batteries). It will run Android 11. ASUS ROG Phone 5 with 16GB RAM surfaces on Geekbench

ASUS ROG Phone 5 seems to be all set to launch soon. The company has teased its arrival already. Plus, live hands-on images and Geekbench listing of the device with 8GB RAM have also surfaced online. Now, a 16GB RAM variant of the device has surfaced on the listing site. It scored more points than the model that was spotted earlier. In the single-core and multi-core tests of Geekbench, the handset scored 1125 and 3714, respectively.

For reference, ROG Phone 3 has the model number ASUS_I003D. Hence, ASUS_I005DA is expected to be the model number of the next gaming phone, which is likely to be called ROG Phone 5. Interestingly, companies like OnePlus have also skipped the number ‘4’ from their lineup. It is said that the number ‘4’ is considered a bad omen in some Asian countries. Therefore, we could be looking at ROG Phone 5 moniker.

The ROG Phone 5 is tipped to feature a 6.78-inch display and pack a 6,000mAh battery capacity (two 3,000mAh batteries). It will run Android 11. ASUS ROG Phone 5 nears launch with another certification clearance

ASUS is prepping to launch its next gaming smartphone, the ROG Phone 5. The company has teased its arrival already. Plus, live hands-on images and Geekbench listing of the device have also surfaced online. Now, the smartphone has been spotted on MIIT and TENAA. The latter listing reveals the design of the smartphone with model number ASUS_I005DA, and some specifications. The same model number was also spotted on Geekbench 5.

For the unaware, ROG Phone 3 has the model number ASUS_I003D.

According to the MIIT listing, the ROG Phone 5 will feature a 6.78-inch display and pack a 6,000mAh battery capacity (two 3,000mAh batteries). It will run Android 11. The device measures 172.834 x 77.252 x 10.29mm. Recently, the device was also spotted on TENAA that revealed images of the device. On Geekbench, the phone scored 1081 and 3584 points in single-core and multi-core tests respectively. It is powered by a Qualcomm chipset, which is codenamed Lahaina. This codename is associated with the latest and greatest Qualcomm processor, the Snapdragon 888. It is paired with 8GB of RAM and it is preloaded with Android 11 OS. Another rumor claims that the next-gen ROG Phone could arrive with 60W or 65W charging speeds for its massive 6,000mAh battery.

Here’s your first glimpse of the upcoming Asus ROG Phone 5 gaming smartphone

Asus is gearing up to launch a new gaming-centric smartphone in the ROG Phone series – tentatively called the ROG Phone 5. While rumors have predicted a Q1 2021 launch and it also appeared in some alleged hands-on media, we might now have our first real look at the device. Ahead of its official debut, the ROG Phone 5 has received the mandatory TENAA certification in China. And to our delight, the regulatory body’s database has listed some images of the Asus offering.

A dot matrix display on the rear panel that can be customized

The core design language remains unchanged, but what really caught our attention was the ROG logo at the back. And it doesn’t look painted or glass-etched, but it appears to be backlit via small LEDs beneath a layer of glass. The implementation looks similar to what we saw on Asus’ ROG Lightning Armor Case for the ROG Phone 3, and the AnimeMatrix panel on the ROG Zephyrus G14 gaming laptop. And if that’s the case, the lighting pattern on the ROG Phone 5’s rear panel will likely be customizable.

The design of the camera island at the back hasn’t changed much on the ROG Phone 5 compared to its predecessor. There are two front-firing stereo speakers, while the selfie camera is situated alongside the top right corner. A minor design change is that the SIM tray has a red accent that stands out from the rest of the frame. The ROG Phone 5 also rocks a prominent Tencent branding at back, which suggests that the device shown in the picture might be a custom Tencent version that will likely remain exclusive to the Chinese market.

Asus ROG Phone 5 will reportedly pack a 6,000mAh battery and Snapdragon 888 SoC

The TENAA listing of ROG Phone 5 also mentions a 6.78-inch display (likely a high refresh rate panel) and a huge 5,960mAh battery that will most likely be marketed as a 6,000mAh unit as per a previous leak. Plus, the device is also tipped to support 60W or 65W fast charging. Asus is expected to retain the capacitive shoulder buttons on its upcoming gaming-centric phone, which is also expected to come equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 SoC and plenty of RAM ticking alongside.

Upcoming ASUS ROG Phone appears online in a live image

ASUS has officially teased the arrival of its next gaming phone. The company is prepping to launch its next ROG Phone, which is likely to be called ROG Phone 5. However, ahead of any official teasers, the phone has appeared online in a live image.

The information comes from a Chinese leaster named WhyLab. They shared a live image of the phone in question on Weibo. It reveals the rear of the upcoming ASUS ROG Phone. It has a slightly altered design compared to the current ROG Phone 3. This new design is more of a evolution of the ROG Phone 3 instead of a complete redesign. It is said that the bottom left corner appears to have a special red button. This button is speculated to be a shortcut to gaming mode.

Recently, an ASUS phone with model number ASUS_I005DA was spotted on Geekbench 5. For the unaware, ROG Phone 3 has the model number ASUS_I003D.
