AT&T finally joins Black Friday festivities with free iPhone 7 and Galaxy S7, discounted LG G5

It took a while, but now we can see all of America’s big four mobile carriers showing the gift-giving spirit, with your favorite high-end smartphones heavily discounted or outright given away for free by Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T.

At first glance, Ma Bell’s Black Friday deals may well and justifiably be deemed as underwhelming. On AT&T’s savings-dedicated webpage, you’ll find a mediocre Galaxy S6 and LG G5 reward program advertised most prominently.

LG’s H1 2016 modular handheld can score you $300 VISA reward cards through December 29 on Next installment plans, whereas “select” Samsung Galaxy S6 phones only come with $200 coupons. And then there’s a so-so LG G Pad X 8.0 tablet available free of charge on-contract. Also, 50 percent off JBL Under Armour wireless Bluetooth headphones, and 25 percent off select cases, both offers valid until November 28.

Finally, a free prepaid ZTE Maven 2 by December 31, and $100 AT&T Visa reward cards with “qualifying” DirecTV subscriptions.

After doing some more digging though, it turns out AT&T can also hook you up with a free iPhone 7 or Samsung Galaxy S7 this holiday season, as long as you agree to Next plans and add DirecTV service to your account as well. Better yet, the GS7 is joined by a complimentary Gear VR headset, and the Galaxy Tab E can also be yours for free if you sign up to a 24-month pact. Oh, and the marked-down LG G5 is offered with a gratis bundled G Pad X 10.1 on a similar 2-year agreement. Not too shabby after all!

Amazon lets you save up to $90 on Prime exclusive Moto G4 for limited time

In the market for a robust budget-conscious Android smartphone this gift-giving season? The popular Moto G4 family includes three such stellar options, and if you’re a proud member of the Amazon Prime club, you can nab the “standard” 32GB SKU for an all-time low price today.

Lockscreen offers and (discreet) ads bring the non-Play, non-Plus 5.5-incher down to just $139.99 with plenty of internal storage space, as well as microSD support. The non-Prime 32GB Moto G4 variant normally costs around $230, so you’re looking at pretty massive $90 savings here.

If you want to cough up even less, the fourth-generation Moto G4 Prime Exclusive Edition goes for $129.99 with 16GB local digital hoarding room, down from a $200 list price. But you’ll probably agree 10 extra bucks are money well spent to double that modest ROM.

Meanwhile, the unlocked low-end Moto G4 Play for all (i.e. not just Amazon Prime subscribers) will set you back $130 after a small $20 discount, and a G4 Plus, again in a non-Prime configuration, can be yours in exchange for $200 with 16GB storage ($50 off list), or $230 when you get a spacious 64GB ROM ($70 savings in store).

Not exactly the Black Friday deals of a lifetime, which is why they’re not explicitly said to expire later today, but you should still hurry if they tickle your fancy.

Apple’s Black Friday ‘shopping event’ is all about gift cards for old gear

You weren’t really expecting free latest-generation iPhones straight from on and offline Apple Stores, right? If you were, you must not know who you’re dealing with here. This is a profit-hungry company that didn’t even hold a Black Friday sale last year, so we should probably be thankful they’re now offering these modest complimentary gift cards with select iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Mac and Apple TV purchases.

Namely, up to $50 coupons are to be had stateside if you’re in the market for a SIM-free iPhone SE, 6s or 6s Plus today only, up to $100 gifts on all available iPad models, including Pros, the Air 2 and Mini 4, a flat $25 freebie for the Apple Watch Series 1 family, $150 with “select” Macs (no Touch Bar variant), and $25 when you buy an Apple TV.

Extremely similar one-day deals are on across a number of other territories, like Canada or Australia, and it goes without saying you can save a lot more through third-party retailers or carriers. For instance, T-Mobile and Verizon on American shores. Not to mention the avalanche of direct iPad markdowns at Best Buy, Walmart, Target and so on. Still, if you absolutely have to do your shopping at Apple, up to $150 gift cards are better than nothing, we guess.

The complete Pocketnow Black Friday 2016 deals watchlist

In at least the tech world, Black Friday has come forward by a few days or, in some cases, even several weeks. No more is it just a deals day for us as it is a four-day weekend chock full of savings you can get around to. Oh, and there’s a little breadcrumb trail of discounts leading up to the big shebang, too.

You know who made a bigger deal about Black Friday sales than the US this year? Amazon.co.uk. That site had weeks of featured discounts under that banner.

We’ve been covering all these deals and we have quite a few more to talk about as a few Cyber Monday press releases have just begun to pop up. But since most of these campaigns have been lumped in to include both Monday and Tuesday anyways, we’re going to give you a little taste of what you might be able to find for deals as of this post, all of these are guaranteed to go through Sunday, November 27 or later — exceptions will be duly noted.

With that, let’s start from the top end of mobile and move our way down. We’ll give you links to extensive US carrier deals near the end.

Top-end

pixel-verizon

  • The Google Pixel really shouldn’t be on sale at this point, but we have to mention the crazy $400+ discount on Verizon. That said, you’ll have to be on a device payment plan with the carrier.
  • No real deals have popped up for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge, though if you’re going the unlocked route (no US warranty), you can find S7 units at around $530 and S7 edge units near $600: Amazon / Newegg / B&H
  • All versions of the Moto Z (Play, Force, Droid and unlocked) is best served with a Hasselblad True Zoom or Insta-Share Projector Moto Mod on the side, at $250 off list.
  • LG has distributed deals through carriers, including tablet add-ons and a free pair of B&O Play H3 earbuds for the V20.
  • The HTC 10 is $200 off while the One A9, One M9 and other accessories are at deep discounts.

Tablets & Convertibles

HuaweiMatebook_AZL8576

  • The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 with an Intel Core i5, 4GB of RAM and 128GB of storage is $200 off at $799.
  • The Surface Book is also on discount in two models. They are the Core i5/8GB/128GB ($250 off) and the Core i5/8GB/256GB/dGPU ($400 off).
  • The Huawei MateBook is going for $200 off if you grab a Portfolio Keyboard or $300 if you get the board, the MatePen and the MateDock.
  • Not in the mood for Windows? The Huawei MediaPad M3 is $50 off on Amazon at $249.
  • Amazon‘s hot Fire tablets start at $33.33 for the 7-inch versions. The Kindles start at $49.99.

Other Notes (incl. carriers)

vive-intugame

  • AT&T, not really in a position to divvy deals out for the S7, is bundling several Galaxy S6 models with the Gear S2 and the Galaxy Tab E for free. Those two devices need to be on service contracts.
  • Sprint has its exclusive HTC Bolt for half-off today and Black Friday, now at $300. Also through the 25th, you can grab a free LG TV with the purchase of the G5 or V20. You can also get five lines for the price of two through December 1.
  • T-Mobile is going for the jugular with a free iPhone 7s.
  • Verizon is also posting up to $200 discounts on new Android phones priced $400 or more and $200 gift cards per new line activated today and tomorrow.
  • The Google Home smart speaker is $30 off pretty much anywhere you can purchase it.
  • That’s not to do Amazon, however. Its own Alexa-powered speakers are going for at least 20 percent off, starting with the Echo Dot at $39.99.
  • The HTC Vive (typically $799) and the HP Envy 750 bundle ($1,499) are both $100 off, in stores or online. At the Viveport, you can get $5 app bundles and half-off 20 various titles. The deals begin at 2:59am Eastern on Friday.
  • Select Huawei Watch models are $200 off, wherever you can find them (here’s a Google Shopping link for you to sort out which model and store you want it from)
  • Target is taking 15 percent off almost everything in its store on November 27 and 28. The exceptions, thankfully, don’t hit all Apple products as well as smartphones and tablets on sale.

We hope you have a pleasant Thanksgiving and a safe, fun time shopping this weekend. And the next few weeks. Don’t forget to buy ugly sweaters on your way out!

Amazon offers great savings on select Fitbit, Garmin, Withings and Samsung wearables

While so many major US retailers have been kind enough to share, preview and detail their full Black Friday deal collections well in advance of the year’s biggest shopping days, Amazon kept almost everything a secret until its discount avalanche began earlier today.

Hopefully, you saved a couple of hundreds of dollars in the bank after stocking up on VR gear and home entertainment products, because that Sony Xperia XZ goes perfectly with a $200 black leather Huawei Watch. Or a $149 Samsung Gear Fit 2, marked down from $180.

For an extremely limited time, you can also buy some stylish Withings smart trackers on the cheap, including a $70 Activité Pop and $90 Activité Steel. Or you can settle for an arguably uglier Withings Go, available at just $40 after a massive $40 rebate.

But if it’s a low-cost wearable from an early market leader you prefer, there are Fitbits on sale setting you back as little as $69 (the Flex 2), and as “much” as $150 (Blaze). $99 gets you the Fitbit Alta (previously $130), while the Charge 2 goes for $129 instead of $150.

Last but not least, check out the $40 Garmin Vivofit, $70 Vivosmart HR, and $99 and up Vivomove, sold at $10 to $80 discounts. ‘Tis the season to procure ultra-affordable wearable gear!

Google bundles $25 Chromecast 2015 and $69 Chromecast Ultra with 3 months of HBO Now

Turning your dumb old TV set into a relatively smart one you can wirelessly control using a connected mobile device or PC is already extremely easy and crazy cheap, courtesy of digital media dongles from Google, Amazon or Roku.

But for a limited time, two of the most popular such streaming products are available at even lower prices than usual, with some very attractive additional video on demand service also thrown in for free.

Discounted to $25 across several third-party retailers, the second-generation Chromecast is now $10 off list direct from the US Google Store as well, three months of HBO Now included. It’s almost like they are paying you to get this ageless, simple, versatile and powerful little HDMI content streamer, since normally, just the first HBO Now month would be free of charge.

The next two typically cost $15 each, letting you enjoy all the John Oliver, Westworld, Veep and Game of Thrones you can handle. Plus, new movies every week.

The special Black Friday offer is good for $69 Chromecast Ultra purchases too, and while the non-Ultra variant’s $25 deal expires Monday, November 28, you get nearly an entire extra month to sign up for a free 90-day HBO Now subscription. Only new members allowed.

Cricket brings the just-launched ZTE Grand X 4’s price down to $50 for Black Friday

It’s not easy for small prepaid wireless service providers to contend the US “Big Four” even under normal circumstances, so trying to snatch customers away from T-Mobile, Sprint or Verizon during the gift-giving season sounds like a perfect mission for Tom Cruise.

But while Cricket Wireless can’t give away the iPhone 7 or Samsung Galaxy S7 for free this Black Friday weekend, AT&T’s low budget-focused daughter operator will not ask you to jump through many hoops to score its best holiday deal either.

No trade-in required, no convoluted fine print or strings attached. Just visit one of the prepaid carrier’s brick and mortar stores or head over to cricketwireless.com from now until Sunday, November 27, and pay $49.99 on a recently launched ZTE Grand X 4 with activation on a smartphone plan.

Mind you, this respectable mid-range 5.5-incher is literally as fresh as paint, costing $130 last week with a fingerprint reader in tow, Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Snapdragon 425 processor, 2GB RAM, 13/5MP cameras, and 3,140 mAh battery. A solid spec sheet for that introductory price, a killer bang for buck now.

Cricket has an abundance of tempting limited-time offers for folks bringing their numbers over from a different network too, including a $100 ZTE Grand X Max 2 with 6-inch Full HD screen resolution and dual 13 + 2MP rear cams, $30 Samsung Galaxy Amp Prime, and free Microsoft Lumia 650, ZTE Sonata 3 or LG Spree.

Amazon’s best Black Friday deal of the day is a $999 Oculus-ready PC and Rift bundle

Torn between Amazon’s discounted $140 Echo, $40 Echo Dot, $75 Fire Kids Edition and $115 Fire TV Gaming Edition? Before burning out a sizable chunk of your holiday shopping budget on the e-commerce giant’s super-affordable in-house gear, you may want to consider putting every penny you’ve saved of late towards a more “meaningful” purchase.

How does a $999 CyberPowerPC Oculus ready GXiVR8020A gaming desktop & Oculus Rift virtual reality headset bundle sound? Like a mouthful, right? Also, pretty expensive at first for a Black Friday “Deal of the Day” if you don’t wrap your head around exactly what you’re getting here.

Namely, the Oculus Rift, one of the world’s most popular, best-reviewed first-wave VR contraptions, typically sold for $599 all by its lonesome, and a fully compatible Windows 10 system with Intel Core i5 “Skylake” power, 8GB DDR4 memory, 1TB HDD, AMD Radeon RX 480 graphics, six USB 3.0 ports, as well as four USB 2.0, one HDMI, Display Port, and Network Ethernet connectivity.

The latter desktop PC currently costs $700 when not bundled with the Rift for a holiday-special promo, so all in all, Amazon offers you the unprecedented opportunity of saving 300 bucks. Plus, you even qualify for additional $100 Oculus Store Credit and a free copy of the EVE: Valkyrie multiplayer dogfighting shooter game. It almost goes without saying you need to act fast though.

Verizon’s best phones are free all weekend long with eligible trade-ins

Does $10 a month still feel a little rich for your blood, although the “made by Google” Pixel is certainly worth a whole lot more than $240 all in all? Taking a page from T-Mobile’s earlier revealed Black Friday playbook, Verizon will let traders of select like-new devices to pick up brand-new, sizzling hot high-end phones for absolutely no charge all weekend long.

Slightly less restrictive than Magenta’s free phone promotional program, Big Red’s top holiday deal includes the iPhone 7, 7 Plus, Pixel, Pixel XL, Moto Z Droid, Z Droid Force, Galaxy S7, and S7 Edge.

Any of these can be yours at “no cost with no money down” on device payment plans, as long as you’re willing to give up a mint condition iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, Edge+, S7, S7 Edge, Note 5, LG V20, G5 or Moto Droid Turbo 2 starting today online, and in physical stores on the actual Black Friday.

To further sweeten the deal, Verizon will give away $200 Visa prepaid cards for every line switched to America’s largest carrier up to a grand total of four, as well as shave $250 off any iPad with iPhone 7 or 7 Plus purchases.

If you’d rather just get a 32GB iPad mini 2, its on-contract price is brought all the way down to $99 Thursday and Friday only, while the Ellipsis 10 Android tablet is $49 with a new two-year agreement for a limited time. A bunch of accessories are also heavily discounted through either Friday or Sunday, including a $100 UE Boom 2, $90 Fitbit Charge HR, and $35 Mophie Powerstation XL.

Sprint hits back at T-Mobile with free third, fourth and fifth line of unlimited service

The US wireless service provider wars are back on for the holidays, with T-Mobile and Sprint’s customers emerging as their true, big winners.

If the extended four-lines-for-the-price-of-two Magenta Friday deal failed to sell you on the UnCarrier’s controversial ONE plan, The Now Network claims to have the “industry’s biggest, best Black Friday offer”, as well as the “boldest offer in wireless history”, in store now.

This not just lets you save a boatload of cash on a third, fourth and fifth Unlimited Freedom line, but outright gives away unlimited data, talk and text for free to three members of a family of five. Until January 31, 2018, that is, and only if you act quickly. No, not that quickly. You have until December 1 to decide if you can do better.

Spoiler alert – you can’t, as Sprint’s heavily discounted bill will total $100 a month for two, three, four or five lines, while a single unlimited everything account, also including 5GB mobile hotspot data, still costs $60.

“Compared to the competition, Sprint could literally save wireless customers hundreds of dollars a month”, says its chief marketing officer, Roger Solé, and for once, that doesn’t appear to be just carefully concocted advertising propaganda. It’s an undoubtedly sweet promo, joining a Galaxy S7 BOGO program, Tab E freebie, half-price HTC Bolt deal, LG phone/TV bundles, and accessory markdowns for Black Friday.

New round of early Best Buy Black Friday deals includes $50 Moto G4 Play and dirt-cheap Samsung tabs

While Black Friday is still technically 36 hours or so away at the time of this writing, and the vast majority of Best Buy’s doorbusters dedicated to the occasion have been slated for a Thanksgiving Day inauguration, it’d be a shame not to check out some of the retailer’s already available holiday steals.

After offering the US unlocked Samsung Galaxy S7 for an all-time low price of $550, free fast charge wireless pad included, and a $600 128GB Surface Pro 4 keyboard bundle a couple of weeks back, then throwing in $300 gift cards with LG G5 purchases, BB today discreetly knocks the Moto G4 Play off to $49.99.

There’s obviously one big catch, namely an obligation to activate the 5-inch phone on a prepaid Verizon plan, but still, you’re looking at LTE connectivity, near-stock Android Marshmallow with Nougat decidedly on the way, 16GB expandable storage, 2GB RAM, and decent 2,800 mAh battery capacity.

Normally, the Big Red prepaid G4 Play costs $85, although we’ve seen it discounted to $65 not long ago. Never to $50, of course.

At the same time, you can procure a wide range of Samsung tablets at marked-down prices, including a $70 Galaxy Tab E Lite, $90 Tab A (2016) 7.0, $200 Tab A 10.1, and $400 Galaxy View, the latter of which used to cost a whopping $550. Oh, and if you happen to pass by a Best Buy physical store, do inquire about this Galaxy S7 trade-in program promising $450 in gift cards for any “working smartphone” replaced with a brand-new Samsung flagship on a Verizon, AT&T or Sprint monthly installment plan.

T-Mobile previews even more ‘kinda crazy’ Black Friday deals, free iPhone 7 and LG V20 included

After making Magenta Friday a “thing”, and spreading the pre-Black Friday love all the way through Tuesday, T-Mobile is taking a very short break before bringing out the main course as far as holiday deals are concerned.

Starting November 24, i.e. tomorrow, i.e. Thanksgiving Day, the “UnCarrier” moves on from the eggnog to the “hard stuff” with free flagship Samsung, LG and Apple phones. That’s right, you can trade in a qualifying previous-generation handheld for a gratis Galaxy S7 after 24 monthly bill credits, or pick up an iPhone 7, 7 Plus or LG V20 instead at $0.

Granted, nothing is that simple and advantageous for the everyday mobile consumer, so there are a number of conditions and strings attached. For instance, you’ll need a perfectly functional, like-new iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, Galaxy S6, S6 Edge, Edge+, S7, S7 Edge, Note 5 or LG G5 to swap out for an actual brand-new iPhone 7.

The 7 Plus special offer is even more restrictive, but the good news is you can trade in an iPhone 6s, for instance, and only pay $100. Or an iPhone SE, and cough up $200 after still saving a whopping $570. With T-Mobile ONE or Simple Choice Unlimited service, that is, and sales tax not covered by T-Mo.

The “holicray-cray” deals don’t stop there, with an additional $200 of spending money thrown in per line if you choose to switch a number to T-Mobile this extended weekend. Then you can get a free hour of Wi-Fi on Gogo-equipped domestic flights even if you’re a Verizon, AT&T or Sprint subscriber, and finally, there are also all those promos announced last week. Kinda crazy indeed!

Not just Best Buy: $99 Google Home deal offered across US retailers from November 23

Okay, Google is now outright making fools of those who rushed to purchase the Mountain View search giant’s Amazon Echo “killer” at its $129 introductory price.

Not only is the Google Assistant-powered Google Home slated to cost just $99 at Best Buy starting tomorrow, November 23, but the actual Google Store, plus Target and Walmart, are today confirmed to be prepping $30 “limited-time” discounts of their own.

This way, you can be sure there will be more than a few hundred smart speakers on sale nationwide, though it’s probably still wise to hurry and get your online or offline order in before the major retail quartet runs out of marked-down inventory.

Remember, you’re looking at a voice-activated, two-way conversational home automation hub here, capable of commanding audio services like Google Play Music, Spotify or Pandora, as well as browsing the web for quick answers to your hands-free questions, retrieving flight information, setting alarms and timers, alerting you of unusual traffic on the way to work, and of course, controlling smart light bulbs, plugs, switches, thermostats and so on.

Even at $100, Google Home also comes with six complimentary months of YouTube Red ad-free video streaming. But is all that enough to contend the soon-to-be-$140 Amazon Echo this “gift giving” season?

Black Friday comes early for Moto 360 Sport eBay shoppers with $100 steal

It’s beginning to look a lot like… Black Friday across many US retailers, e-tailers and popular smart device manufacturers, even though technically the biggest shopping day Friday of the year, followed by the biggest Monday, are still roughly 72 and 144 hours away at the time of this writing.

Motorola is among those that couldn’t wait for the “official” start of the massive holiday spending season, bundling select Moto Mods with your favorite Moto Z variant at special prices through its US website.

The second-generation Moto 360 smartwatch is also already discounted by a solid $100, but unfortunately, there seems to be a significant gap between supply and demand. Meanwhile, the arguably uglier yet sturdier and outdoor-friendlier Moto 360 Sport can be currently picked up from a trusted eBay seller for $150 less than even the marked-down standard 2015 360.

Probably not for long, but if you were wondering last month just how much lower the GPS-rocking wearable could go, the answer is $99.99. Free nationwide economy shipping included, with mobilepros1 letting you choose either a white or orange/flame flavor, limited quantity available for both.

The two 45mm Android Wear watches set you back $145 a pop on Amazon nowadays, and a whopping $200 direct from their manufacturer, while the cheapest you can find a black silicone Moto 360 Sport model is $180 at Best Buy and Amazon. Bottom line, this is one sweet pre-Black Friday deal eBay’s got going on.
