Samsung Galaxy S20 FE’s One UI 3.1 update is no longer available

We recently saw the latest One UI 3.1 software update become available for the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, which came as great news to Samsung users. However, it seems that the update wasn’t ready to go live, as certain details needed to be ironed out.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 FE started receiving the One UI 3.1 software update a couple of days ago. The firmware version G781BXXU2CUB5 for the Galaxy S20 FE started to become available in several markets across Europe, including the Netherlands, Belgium, Greece, Romania, Spain, Germany, Nordic, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Italy, United Kingdom, France, Slovenia, Baltic, Portugal, and Poland. This came just a week after the release of the latest Samsung Galaxy S21 series. The update was expected to give previous Samsung devices some of the new features that got announced with the arrival of the company’s latest flagship. However, this update is no longer available for download.

There is no official reason why Samsung decided to pull the One UI 3.1 software update for the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, but it seems that it came with a couple of unwanted bugs. According to the guys over at GSM Arena, the latest update made the devices experience several performance issues that include battery drains, unreliable SMS notifications, and some even experienced their phones becoming slow. This is not the first update that has to be pulled, as Samsung experiences something similar to the Galaxy S10 update, but at least we can hope that they will also address the issue fast.

Now, this hasn’t been the only issue affecting the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, as we’ve seen touch screen problems in the past. On the positive side, the Galaxy S20 was one of Samsung’s best-selling devices to end 2020, which kept the company from losing ground in the US market despite the ongoing pandemic. Recent rumors suggest that Samsung is already working on its successor, but only time will tell if we end up getting a new Samsung Galaxy S21 FE.

Apple will replace the display on your iPhone 11 for free

Apple has launched a new ‘iPhone 11 Display Module Replacement Program for Touch Issues’ that will solve the issues of several users who have experienced Touch issues with their devices. This new program will fix the “small percentage” of iPhone 11 displays that have stopped responding to touch input for free if certain conditions are met.

“Apple has determined that a small percentage of iPhone 11 displays may stop responding to touch due to an issue with the display module. Affected devices were manufactured between November 2019 and May 2020.”

Apple accepts that there are some iPhone 11 devices with defective display modules. These phones were manufactured between November 2019 and May 2020, and if your device has been affected, here’s you can get it serviced for free.

First, you have to type your phone’s serial number in the serial number checker provided on the Apple Support page, to see if your iPhone 11 is eligible for the program. After verifying that you can get a free fix, you will have to find an Apple Authorized Service Provider, make an appointment at an Apple Retail Store, or contact Apple Support to arrange mail-in service via the Apple Repair Center, where your device will be examined prior to the service.

You should also backup your iPhone 11 to iCloud or your computer and make sure that it doesn’t have a cracked screen since that issue will have to be reserved prior to the service, and yes, there may be a cost for that repair.

Still, it’s cool to know that Apple’s got a nice plan to fix your device. We also hope that Cupertino also fixes other problems affecting its latest iPhone 12 lineup, which include dropping 5G and LTE services and the latest one that’s now draining the phone’s battery.

A new issue is now affecting iPhone 12’s LTE and 5G connectivity

Apple’s latest iPhone 12 lineup has arrived with more bugs than we could’ve expected. Of course, most of them have been ironed out with software updates, but it seems that we have a new issue that’s now affecting the device’s LTE and 5G connectivity.

We have seen several reports claiming that some iPhone 12 models have been presenting display and touch issues, as well as missing notifications and messages from time to time. Apple acknowledged some of these problems and solved them with the iOS 14.2.1 software update, which was released last month.

However, it seems that another problem has been affecting the iPhone 12 lineup, and it has to do with the phones dropping LTE and 5G services while users are on the move. User joxesCA posted about his issue on Apple’s forums back in October, and the post has generated more than 500 replies claiming to have similar issues.

joxesCA:

Received my iPhone 12 Pro on Friday. Activated it on Saturday. Sunday I drove for 10 mns and when I arrive to my destination I saw no reception bars and No Service. And in the middle of the screen in a grey box: Your iPhone is not Activated.

The only way to get the connection back was to toggle Airplane mode to ON then OFF.

The iPhone had the cellular mode to 5G Auto. I switched it to LTE to test. And it was the same.

So I resetted the network settings: same issue and I resetted the iPhone as a new iPhone and reinstalled everything from scratch (not from a saved backup): same issue.

I drove my car and found the exact location where the phone lost the network. If the phone lost the network it means I reach the end of the coverage area from a certain antenna. It looks like something happened with the phone when I reach a zone covered by a new antenna.

I called my operator and they told me that everything is good on their end and I have the right SIM card for a 5G device.

I called the Apple Tech Support and they remotely installed on my phone two profiles:

– Baseband and Telephony Logging

– CFNetwork Diagnostics

I was able to replicate the issue after talking to the Apple Tech and I was able to submit the report.

I pushed a little bit the research and I found on Reddit a lot of people talking about the same issue not only on Verizon (my carrier) but also on AT&T. Just use the title I typed and you will find the article.

I never had such issue with the 11pro.

The iPhone 12 issue has also been reported on Reddit, and it has generated more than 400 comments. It also seems that devices on Verizon and AT&T are the ones being affected the most, with a couple of cases from T-Mobile. On a positive note, Redditor Professional_Title mentioned that Verizon’s executive relations team is already aware of the problem.

“EDIT 6 (11/9): I did end up getting a phone call from executive relations who confirmed with me the issue I was having and also confirmed that they have no open alerts about the issue on the front end. She then said that she would be contacting their backend executive team and will be calling me back in 24-48 hours about the results on the investigation. Hopefully this leads them to let support reps know there’s a problem, as that’s the most frustrating part for me.”

Now, we only have to wait until Apple figures out what’s wrong with its iPhone 12 lineup to get a solution.

New iPhone 12 display issues have caught Apple’s attention

Apple’s latest iPhone 12 lineup has recently hit the shelves, and even though they are great phones, they aren’t perfect. Just last weekend, we saw that some users had started reporting issues with the iPhone 12 mini’s Lock Screen sensitivity, while the iPhone 12 and Pro had problems related to the Messages app. However, it seems that the list doesn’t end there. Now, more iPhone 12 devices have started presenting other display issues.

It seems that the new iPhone lineup is having more problems than expected. User’s complaints usually mentioned missing SMS messages or notifications in the 6.1-inch variants of the iPhone 12, or devices that have to do with the iPhone 12 mini, and how its Lock Screen doesn’t recognize the press or swipe to unlock when they used their thumbs.

The latest bug is also related to the display of the iPhone 12, which is now presenting a greenish tint and flickering. These issues have started to show up on Apple’s Support Community page, and unfortunately, there’s no immediate solution in sight.

The guys over at MacRumors got their hands on an internal document where Apple acknowledges the issue in some iPhone 12 displays, and it has also started to give instructions as to what to do when encountering these problems.

“In the document, shared with Apple Authorized Service Providers this week, Apple says that it is aware of customer reports related to this issue and is investigating. Apple has advised technicians to avoid servicing affected iPhones, at least for now, and instead inform customers that they should keep their iPhone up to date with the latest iOS version. This guidance suggests that Apple may be confident that it can fix the issue in a future software update.”

This is not the first time iPhone displays have presented this issue, as the previous iPhone 11 lineup was also affected by a similar problem. However, Apple managed to fix it with the iOS 13.6.1 software update, meaning that flickering, a green or gray glow, or other unintended lighting variations in the iPhone 12 lineup could soon be fixed with a future software update.

In the meantime, try setting the display’s brightness to 90% or lower and see if the issue is also affecting your iPhone 12, as users claim that this is when the display starts to show unwanted variations.

The Apple Watch SE is presenting overheating issues

It seems that the new Apple Watch SE is the hottest smartwatch on the market, literally. The latest, more affordable version of the Apple Watch is said to be presenting overheating issues after some hours of usage, and it seems that the problems don’t stop there.

Several Apple Watch SE owners have started to report issues with their devices. These complaints have reached Reddit posts from South Korea, where at least six users say that their smartwatches have overheated and then stopped to work correctly. The watches have also shown a yellow spot on the upper right corner of their displays. Some users claim that the issues started appearing while they were wearing the Apple Watch SE, while others say that it started to overheat while charging, and it later presented the display issue.

“The owner received the product on October 8. The owner slept with the watch on the wrist on October 9 night. Woke up on October 10 just to find the wrist is very hot. The owner quickly took off the watch to find the red wrist due to heat. No power signals from the watch, but the sound plays well when the watch is searched with the Find my Watch feature. The owner exchanged the device with a new product on October 16.”

There is no clue as to what may be causing this issue since there hasn’t been a teardown of the Apple Watch SE, but it is believed that the problem could be the display connectors near the Taptic Engine if this Apple Watch has a similar design to prior models. Also, it is not clear as to why this issue seems to be limited to South Korea, as there haven’t been any reports found elsewhere. In other words, this problem may be limited to a specific Apple Watch SE batch manufactured in a particular area, which was then shipped to Korea. However, we will be on the lookout for further reports on social media networks and Apple Support Communities.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is starting to present erratic touchscreen issues

Samsung has recently launched its new budget-friendly version of the Galaxy S20, the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE. This may be one of the best budget flagships available in the market since it includes several premium specs, but it stays away from the $1,000 price tags that we usually find in today’s flagship market. However, there is no such thing as a perfect smartphone, and some Galaxy S20 Fan Edition users are already reporting some issues with their phones.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 may not be as great as we initially thought. Some of its users have started posting complaints on Reddit and Samsung forums, as they mention erratic touchscreen problems. These basically consist of the phone having trouble distinguishing between swipe and tap gestures. Others note that the displays just don’t respond to touch input or start registering phantom inputs.

Now, the guys over at 9to5Google also experienced some issues with their review unit:
“Anecdotally, our own Samsung Galaxy S20 FE review unit is also experiencing these touchscreen issues. In my usage, the phone will regularly turn on the “pocket” mode even when I’m holding it normally and occasionally messes up swiping actions. In speaking to Samsung, the company wasn’t aware of the problem being widespread as of last week with a hardware replacement being shipped to my doorstep this week. As a result, we opted to delay our review until giving the new unit a test run.”

Complaints are not as numerous, so it is believed that this may be an issue limited to a few units. However, it is too soon to draw conclusions as to whether this is a software or hardware problem, and we also have to wait for Samsung to acknowledge the issue officially. Whatever the case, we hope it gets sorted out fast, so it doesn’t affect more customers.
