New HTC Butterfly rumored with B2 codename and M8-like specs

A new HTC Butterfly smartphone will be landing soon, and, according to the most recent rumors, it will wear the codename “B2″. The leak also suggests that the device will have identical specifications like the One (M8) flagship, but it will only be sold in markets like Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, and other Asian markets. We’ve already heard about the new HTC Butterfly at the beginning of last month, when we also heard a tentative model number: 0PAJ3. However, that report indicated, just like ...

HTC working on new Butterfly model with no more UltraPixel camera?

The original HTC Butterfly helped pave the way for smartphones with 1080p displays in late 2012. Then in mid-2013 we saw HTC release the Butterfly S, outfitting the phone with a more modern SoC, UltraPixel camera, and much larger battery. Now that the One M8 is a reality, will HTC be delivering a corresponding refresh to its Butterfly series? That’s what we’re thinking about this afternoon, after being made aware of some benchmark data that might just reveal ...

The HTC One/Butterfly S duality: what we should learn

I didn’t think much of it last year when HTC released the Butterfly alongside the Droid DNA, making up the manufacturer’s first round of hardware featuring 1080p displays. After all, Verizon can be a serious prima donna, and if it had its way, it would probably only carry exclusive phones you couldn’t get with any other carrier. Anyway, my interest was already turning to those HTC M7 rumors (which would eventually become the One), and that sort of arrangement with the ...

HTC Butterfly S rumored for later this month

The HTC One is still the company’s flagship, but that hasn’t stopped us from hearing rumors about a new Butterfly under development. The first Butterfly model (above), you’ll recall, was the first 1080p smartphone and eventually came to the US as the Droid DNA. Back in March we learned that HTC wanted to develop a Butterfly sequel, and later we saw some possible evidence of such a thing, with signs of a ...

Android 4.2.2 With Sense 5.1 Has Leaked For HTC Butterfly

Android 4.2.2 With Sense 5.1 Has Leaked, according to reports, for the HTC Butterfly, the international twin of the Verizon HTC Droid DNA. Sense 5 has been included and has debuted with the HTC One, though, on top of Android 4.1.2, but if the report, and the video below, is any indication, an Android 4.2.2 update should land soon (at least for the Butterfly). While you can’t really see the Android version in the video below (as the About screen reports a “protected” version) you can definitely see the toggles in the notification shade. The system dump is available on XDA ...

New HTC Butterfly Already Under Testing as DLXPLUS?

HTC got the 1080p ball rolling with last year’s Butterfly, released in the States as the Droid DNA. Since then, we’ve seen the company refine its full HD treatment with the HTC One, but we learned last month that there was still some life left for the original Butterfly, as HTC revealed plans to give the phone a proper sequel. At the time, it sounded like this new Butterfly could be arriving sooner rather than later, but we lacked a more developed sense of the ...

HTC Exec Confirms Plans For Butterfly 2

In many ways, we’ve been looking at the HTC One as the sequel of sorts to the Droid DNA/HTC Butterfly. At least, as HTC’s first devices with 1080p displays, the comparison seems appropriate on the surface, but could we be getting ahead of ourselves? After all, between the smaller screen, BoomSound stereo speakers, and unique construction, the One has enough going on in its own right to be considered a fully-formed concept for a smartphone, all on its own. That’s sounding more and more like the right way to be looking at ...

HTC Confirms Sense 5 Updates

Earlier this month we got to see HTC launch its new One flagship, the phone that will usher in Sense 5. It’s quite the departure from earlier iterations of Sense, and love it or hate it, existing HTC users have probably been wondering whether or not there were plans to make it available for current devices. HTC recently took to Facebook to address these questions, and let us know a little about how Sense 5 updates will arrive. This is not necessarily an exhaustive list of phones that will see ...

The HTC Mini Is a Great Idea That Will Be Mocked to Death

There’s something about the introduction of the HTC Mini that almost screams “failure.” Like a lawn sprinkler that only works when it’s raining, or a can of bug spray that comes with a fly swatter, a phone that’s so uncomfortable to use that it needs to have a separate, tiny companion phone feels like a tacit admission from the manufacturer that its product is broken beyond repair. I’m sure HTC is going to find itself the target of much ridicule over the release of the HTC Mini, and I ...
