No Android Lollipop update for Motorola DROID Ultra, Mini, Maxx after 30 months

Too little and too late.Motorola’s David Schuster announced on his Google+ page that announced software upgrades for Verizon’s DROID Ultra, DROID Mini and DROID Maxx have been cancelled. So, instead of Android Lollipop, they will stay on Android 4.4.4 KitKat. The Droid Mini started on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean while ...

Motorola Lollipop update prepared for all 2013 and 2014 phones; coming “really soon”

There is absolutely no need to recap Motorola’s efforts related to the Android 5.0 Lollipop update; instead, we’ll just praise the company for being among the first ones to deliver Google’s latest and greatest to its current devices. However, those who own older models are not enjoying the Lollipop dessert just yet, but the company is getting there, according to Motorola’s Luciano Carvalho who took some details on the progress to his Google+ page (embedded below).According to the post, Carvalho reassures everyone that Motorola is working hard on updating 2014 and ...

Motorola posts up Lollipop update tracker

Android 5.0 Lollipop is on the way, and we know many of you with those fancy new Moto Xs are just itching to use it on your phone. So instead of being inundated with “ETA please!!!” all day long after the source code for the update drops, Motorola is trying to escape the bombardment by setting up a dedicated Motorola Lollipop update tracker for its most recent phones.Motorola, of course, has been almost-godlike in its delivery ...

Changelog posted for Droid Maxx, Ultra, Mini Android 4.4.4 updates

This weekend, an update to the 2013 Droid family of devices began rolling out, though a list of what exactly was new (other than the bump up to the newest version of KitKat) was absent at the time. Finally, both Verizon and Motorola have posted up a Droid family Android 4.4.4 update changelog on their sites.Unfortunately, this update (build number 21.11.21) one’s centered around bloatware, but there is other stuff. VZ Cloud and Visual Voicemail have been updated, which I’m sure leaves the three people using those apps on their Droids pleased. The Isis mobile wallet app has also ...

Motorola Droid series to skip Android 4.4.3, go straight to 4.4.4

In a surprise move last night, Android 4.4.4 made an appearance and OTA updates began rolling out to select Nexus devices. Naturally, it’s time to talk updates, especially for Motorola phones (some of which were updated to Android 4.4.3 ...

Motorola Touchless control’s new “What’s up” command reads your notifications

Even though Motorola hasn’t gained the amount of praise we’d want it to have for its 2013 line-up, that doesn’t change the fact that the company did raise the bar significantly with devices like the Moto X. You can fully interact with the device without having to pick-it-up, and as sci-fi as that would’ve sounded just a year ago, people have become fond of its simplicity and accuracy. That said, even though the company has gained a new owner, it hasn’t stopped working on improving its offerings. The company’s Touchless controls app will soon be enhanced ...

Motorola Assist update brings new driving mode features

Of all the features Motorola baked-in to the Moto X, Motorola Assist was the one that sure seemed to have a lot of potential, but the implementation left quite a bit to be desired. For instance, we thought it was really cool how Assist would recognize when you were driving and then read incoming text messages aloud to you – but also how bizarre it was that there was no corresponding respond-by-voice feature, and at best you were left setting an “I’m driving now” auto-response away message of ...

Motorola Touchless Control learns some new Google Now tricks

Of all of Motorola’s smartphones, the Moto G may be the one we’re most infatuated with at the moment, but as we pointed out in our recent review, the phone’s not without its faults. After all, you’ve got to make cuts somewhere in order to deliver a handset as eminently affordable as the Moto G is, and one of the features that ended up on the chopping block was the very useful Touchless Control. Luckily, Motorola’s other recent Androids do have access to ...

Motorola Droid Ultra, Mini see new white versions arrive at Verizon

For a day crammed between a holiday and a weekend, you could forgive today for being a bit of no-man’s-land when it comes to smartphone news, with nothing interesting happening besides word arriving of a few more Black Friday deals. In spite of that, we’re seeing some relatively interesting news come down the pipeline, including that of new editions of some popular Androids. We already looked at a couple additional color options for ...

Has the iPhone met its match – the, wait? Droid Ultra family?

Everyone looks for different things in a smartphone. Maybe you care about high-speed data, while your friend might be more concerned with the availability of certain key apps. That makes it difficult to give one-size-fits-all opinions on phones, but we sure endeavor to do our best, particularly through our Scored for Me matrix. But even with all these differences of opinion, we still expect certain trends to show through: no one’s going to argue that the LG Optimus F5 is the superior phone to the G2, for instance. That’s why

Droid Ultra vs HTC One (Video)

Motorola and HTC both have something in common. This year, 2013, was a sort of rebirth for both companies. Motorola Mobility was purchased by Google last year and has been building up to the release of its new era of smartphones ever since. HTC has fallen since its glory days and needed a breath of fresh air. Enter the Droid Ultra and HTC One. Both are flagships from each firm, and they have quite a few things in common, if you get past their exteriors. But how do ...

Droid Ultra vs Moto X (Video)

After a short hiatus and an acquisition by none other than Google, Motorola has hit the market full force over the summer. In July, it announced three new Droids for Verizon: Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, and Droid Mini. And at the beginning of August, it announced the Moto X for all major US carriers, as well as US Cellular. Two of those phones are in our labs, the Droid Ultra and Moto X. Naturally, we put the two under the microscope, together. Be ...

Motorola Droid Ultra unboxing (Video)

The new Motorola is among us, or so the company says. The US-based handset maker has been on cruise control since being acquired by Google early last year. And ever since, we’ve been eagerly awaiting post-acquisition Motorola handsets in hopes of a beautiful fusion of an adept hardware manufacturer and the maker of one of our favorite mobile operating systems. In the last month, Motorola drew the curtains on its new outlook on the mobile market, which consisted of four new phones: Droid Ultra, Droid ...

Bypass the Moto X’s password with Motorola Skip (Video)

Device security is very important, especially as we begin to trust our smartphones with more and more sensitive data – work emails, private conversations, or even banking information. Personal devices, such as smartphones and tablets, are far more private than most other types of electronics. As such, they should be treated with care and likely password or PIN protected. The unfortunate side effect is having to type a PIN or password dozens of times every day, which is quite tedious and can grow to be rather frustrating. However,

Motorola Connect for Chrome brings calls, texts to your browser

It’s just a few hours to go until we’ll be able to bring you some hands-on accounts of the new Motorola Moto X, but in the meantime, some early software has just arrived for the handset, helping connect Motorola smartphones with your home PC. Motorola has published Motorola Connect to the Chrome store, offering compatibility with the Moto X, as well as the new Droid Ultra, Maxx, and Mini for Verizon. Once installed, the extension will let users of the Chrome ...
