We have been hearing rumors about Apple devices with mini-LED displays for quite some time now. It was recently reported that a new iPad Pro with a mini-LED display is in the works and it will be launched in the first quarter of 2021. A new report from the Korean website The Elec reiterates the rumor, but it has a twist. It says that at least one iPad Pro model will come equipped with a mini-LED display in the first half of 2021. However, Apple could move to the OLED panels soon after.
According to the report, after the release of the first iPad Pro model with Mini-LED backlighting in the first half of 2021, the Cupertino company is planning to release new iPad Pro models featuring OLED displays in the second half of the year. Moreover, it says that Samsung and LG are already in the process of developing the OLED displays for the iPad Pro. Till now, rumors have suggested that mini-LED backlighting may be limited to the high-end 12.9-inch iPad Pro launching around March. Hence, there is a possibility that rest of the iPad lineup continue to use traditional LCDs until they are upgraded with OLED displays later in the year. That said, the launch roadmap isn’t clear at this point.
For the unaware, mini-LED and OLED displays offer many similar benefits over the LCD displays. They provide higher brightness, improved contrast ratio, and increased power efficiency over the traditional LCD counterparts. The latest iPhones and Apple Watch already make use of OLED technology.
It seems that we may finally get an under-display camera in one of Samsung’s flagship. The upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 may be the company’s first device to get rid of the punch-hole displays, without the need for notches or pop-up selfie cameras to give us more screen real state. However, rumors don’t stop there, as we may be getting a third device in the Z Fold line this year.
Reports claim that Samsung Display is already making the panel that’s needed for the under-display camera, and Samsung’s System LSI division would produce this camera sensor. Now, things don’t stop there, as Samsung also has to figure out how to improve the quality of the images and videos captured by this camera with the development of an image correction algorithm.
At the same time, leading Samsung will release Fold3, which will bring a lot of innovative technologies. CUP (Camera under Panel), S Pen, second-generation UTG, etc.
We could say that we have already received confirmation of some of the upcoming goodies in the Samsung Galaxy Z fold 3, as Ice Universe has already posted that the Z Fold 3 will bring a lot of innovative technologies.
And since we’re mentioning Ice Universe, he has also claimed that we will get three different devices in the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold line this year. A less expensive Samsung Galaxy Z Fold Lite, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 with S Pen support and a new under-display camera, and a new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold S, which could include a sliding display.
If the Samsung Galaxy Note series is eventually replaced, it should be replaced by the scroll, not the Fold, because the scroll is more like Note in the normal state (extremely like), it is the evolution of Note, this is a reasonable arrangement. What do you think? pic.twitter.com/NFVI4ufA7s
Now, rumors claim that the Samsung Galaxy Note series will disappear, and this may be because the Samsung Galaxy S21 may include stylus support. However, Ice Universe believes that if the Galaxy Note series is to be replaced, the best option would be to replace it with the new Galaxy Z Fold S.
Earlier this month, alleged renders of Samsung’s next flagship – tentatively called the Galaxy S21 Ultra – surfaced online followed by a 360-degree video, giving us a glimpse of its massively redesigned rear panel and a different camera lens arrangement. Other rumors floating around in the leak arena suggest that while the rear panel has been redesigned, the look from the front remains the same as its predecessor. However, a fresh leak now suggests that Samsung will make at least one small but fairly noticeable change to the front facade too, and it has something to do with the chin (or the bottom bezel) of the device.
Famed tipster IceUniverse has tweeted images of what is claimed to be CAD-based renders of the Galaxy S21 Ultra. From the leaked images, it appears that the chin (or bottom bezel) will be as small as the side bezels, which essentially means a more pleasing uniform look similar to the iPhone 12 range. But unlike the Apple offerings which have a huge notch at the top, Samsung will reportedly opt for a way less intrusive hole-punch in accordance with the Infinity-O design language.
So essentially, you’re looking at a familiar Galaxy S20 series design, but with way slimmer and uniformly thin bezels on all sides for the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The leakster goes on to claim that the Galaxy S21 will rock ‘the narrowest chin in mobile phone history’, which might be a big deal for potential buyers who are a fan of uniform aesthetics and value these subtle design changes. However, it is unclear if the same design language will appear on the rest of the Galaxy S21 series members.
Talking about the Galaxy S21 series, the leakster has also shared images depicting the metal-molded cast models of the Galaxy S21 series, which is likely going to have three core members (likely the vanilla Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21 Plus and Galaxy S21 Ultra) that will debut early next year. However, a Galaxy S21 Fan Edition will make its way to the market later in 2021, something Samsung promised back when the Galaxy S20 FE made its debut a few months ago.
The Galaxy S21 Ultra screen will refresh multiple records.
Lastly, in another tweet, the tipster also hinted that the Galaxy S21 series might use a record-setting high refresh rate display. We already have smartphones such as Xiaomi’s Mi 10 Ultra that rock a 144Hz display, so it would be interesting to see Samsung top that and pull off something genuinely outrageous when it comes to winning the specs war. However, leaked rumors suggest that the Galaxy S21 Ultra will pack a 2K display with a 120Hz refresh rate.
Apple took a lead in the smartphone industry with the A14 Bionic processor this year, which happens to the first smartphone chip based on the 5nm chip. As expected, the A14 Bionic set new performance benchmarks for a smartphone chip. Now, it appears that Apple will likely maintain its lead in the smartphone industry by opting the even more efficient 5nm+ process next year, and might shift to TSMC’s 4nm process in 2022.
The latest speculations come courtesy of a TrendForce report which claims that Apple will tap into TSMC’s advanced 5nm+ foundry for making the A15 Bionic chip that will make its way to next year’s iPhone and iPad line-up. More importantly, the pace of innovation will continue in the following year, as TSMC is expected to further shrink the node size to 4nm, with Apple being among the first parties to lap it up for its A16 Bionic chip.
As a general rule of thumb, a smaller process means higher efficiency and better performance when it comes to processors. “Looking ahead to 2021, in addition to Apple’s 5nm+ wafer input for the A15 Bionic SoC,” the report said regarding Apple’s switch to the 5nm+ process next year. “based on current data, Apple is highly likely to continue manufacturing its A16 SoCs with the 4nm process technology,” it added. In addition to the company leveraging TSNM’s smaller nodes, trial production for a test batch of AMD’s upcoming 5nm-based Zen 4 CPUs might also begin next year.
However, it also quite likely that Apple will rely on TSMC’s 5nm+ and 4nm process for manufacturing newer in-house silicon for future Macs, after creating the 5nm-based Apple M1 chip that has already made its way to the new Macbook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac Mini. It will interesting to see how much performance gain can Apple deliver chrome its in-house PC chips following the switch to ever smaller and more energy-efficient nodes.
We start today’s deals with the new MacBook Air with Apple’s latest M1 Chip. It is currently available for $1,200 in its 512GB SSD version with 8GB RAM, which translates to $50 savings in one of today’s most powerful laptops available in the market. Now, if you don’t want a laptop, the latest Mac mini is also on sale. You can get yours for $670 after its first $29 price cut, and you will get 256GB SSD and 8GB RAM.
If you’re looking for a new tablet, the new 12.9-inch iPad Pro with 1TB storage and cellular connectivity can be yours for $1,499 after a $150 discount, or get the latest Apple iPad Air with 64GB for $559 in its WiFi-only version, which will save you $40.
We have also been getting quite a nice amount of deals on Smart TVs and monitors, and today won’t be different. We find last year’s Hisense 65-inch 4K Ultra HD Android Smart ULED TV selling for $800 with $200 savings. LG is also offering the 27-inch QHD IPS Display for $227 with $53 savings.
Other deals include the Bose Sport Earbuds for $159 after a $20 discount. These wireless earphones are available in three color options, and they will give you up to 5 hours per charge with the included charging case. The Logitech Craft Advanced wireless keyboard is also available, and it is getting a $31 discount, leaving it at $169. PowerA’s enhanced wired controller for Nintendo Switch with a vintage Mario theme is getting a $12.50 discount, leaving it at $12.50, meaning 50 percent off. Finally, Kingston is offering its 500GB Nvme internal SSD for $35 with $10 savings.
When Apple introduced its in-house M1 chip and the new Mac trio powered by it earlier this month, the company touted a performance boost that sounded almost too good to be true. After all, this was a first-gen PC chip, and optimizing it to extract the maximum performance out of it was expected to be a challenging task. But the reviews are in, and so are the benchmarking results – both of which are overwhelmingly positive. Talking about the new Mac Mini though, the M1-powered machine leaves Intel’s best far behind.
As you can see in the image below, the single-core Geekbench tally of the new Mac Mini stands at an impressive 1689, which is even higher than Intel’s top-of-the-line 10th gen Core i9 processor fitted inside the 27-inch iMac. For comparison, the Intel chip was a distant second with a multi-core Geekbench 5.0 score of 1251. What this essentially means is Apple has rewritten the rules of price-to-performance ratio by offering a machine that starts at just $699, but performs way better than Intel-powered hardware that costs thrice as much or even higher.
It goes without saying that a higher single-core benchmark score indicates that the chip can sustain demanding workloads with ease. Even an 11th Gen Tiger Lake Core i7 laptop like the Dell XPS 13, when tested by the folks over at Tom’s Hardware, could only achieve a peak single-core tally of 1521. While the numbers are in favor of Apple’s new M1 Mac lineup – which includes the new MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and the Mac Mini – their performance will receive even further boost as developers optimize their apps to run natively instead of Apple’s Rosetta 2 translation layer.
Rumors claim that Samsung has been working non-stop to give us stylus support in the Samsung Galaxy S21 and the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold, and it seems that the company is almost ready. However, this could also come at a cost since giving stylus support to other flagships would make the Galaxy Note series pointless. Now, the latest rumors suggest that there will be no Samsung Galaxy Note 21.
A couple of well-known leakers in the industry have turned to Twitter to give us horrible news for any Samsung Galaxy Note fan. According to Max Weinbach, Samsung is going to launch a total of seven flagships next year. He mentions four Samsung Galaxy S21 variants, including the vanilla version, the higher-end Galaxy S21, the Galaxy S21 Ultra, and the budget friendly Galaxy Note 20 FE. He then mentions three new foldable, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3, the Z Flip3, and the Z Fold FE.
Samsung flagships to expect this year:
S21 FE S21 S21+ S21 Ultra Z Fold 3 Z Flip 3 Z Fold FE
He makes no mention or reference to the new Samsung Galaxy Note device. He does, however, mention that three of these new devices will feature SPen support. Still, that doesn’t necessarily mean that we won’t be getting a new Note series. Still, we also get information from Ice Universe saying that there is no information about the Note 21 series’ development.
Now, this just could be because the Galaxy Note 20 series has recently been launched, and there are one or two rumors claiming that a new budget-friendly Note 20 FE may also be in the works. We also know that Samsung may have its hands busy with its efforts to give us a new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 with stylus support. Whatever the case, we will have to wait a bit longer for any new information that may confirm the end of the Note series.

Ming-Chi Kuo has been quite active, giving us predictions of future Apple products. He has already mentioned that the company will add Taiwanese manufacturer Career Technology to its supply chain because of the company’s LCP soft boards, which will be included in several Apple devices. However, changes don’t end there, as Kuo also believes that next years’ iPhone 13 lineup will arrive with smaller batteries, which isn’t necessarily bad.
According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the new iPhone 13 lineup will have smaller batteries thanks to a new technology known as soft board batteries. He also says that next year’s iPhones will be the first phones ever to use the new tech. His note explains that these new soft board batteries will be supplied by Jialianyi, which will make the company double its Apple business thanks to said batteries.
“Benefiting from the return to Apple’s full product line soft board supply chain, we predict that Jialianyi’s Apple business revenue will grow by about 100% YoY or above in 2021 […] “Jialianyi is expected to obtain about 40-50% of orders for battery soft boards for iPhone 13 and 13 mini. We predict that iPhone 13 will be the first iPhone model to adopt battery soft board technology, which will help save internal space and reduce costs. “The battery soft and hard version suppliers for the iPhone 12 series include Xinxing, Huatong, Yaohua and TTM, and the battery soft board suppliers for the iPhone 13 series are changed to Jialianyi, Xinxing and Huatong. “We believe that the number of battery panels for the iPhone 13 series is reduced due to the reduced number of suppliers, which will benefit the long-term profits of the suppliers. As a new entrant, Jialianyi is the biggest beneficiary of the iPhone 13 series’ switch to battery soft board design.”
These new batteries have fewer layers than other batteries, meaning that Apple could give its future devices more capacity while using less space. Another option is that we may get a slimmer design.
“The 2021 iPhone display may use 10-20% less power than the iPhone 12, thanks to a more power-efficient technology, according to a new report today. There’s even an outside possibility of some kind of always-on display on next year’s iPhones.”
TFI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is one of the best sources of Apple rumors. This time he tells us that Apple is planning on launching a couple of new products in the first half of 2021. These new devices could include a new iPad with a mini-LED display and a new generation AirPods 3 that would look like the AirPods Pro.
The guys over at MacRumors have recently laid their eyes on a research note to investors, where Ming-Chi Kuo claims that Apple will add Taiwanese manufacturer Career Technology to its supply chain for several products in 2021. The main reason for this decision would be because of the company’s flexible soft board technology, made with liquid crystal polymer.
These LCP soft boards would allow Apple to connect components together in a flexible way, that would also facilitate high-speed and low-latency data transfer. These soft boards would be destined for a new mini-LED iPad, and it would start mass production in the first half of 2021.
We must also remember the Kuo already mentioned some months ago that Apple was working on six new mini-LED products and that these products would arrive through the end of 2021. These new Apple devices could include a new 12.9-inch iPad Pro, a 27-inch iMac Pro, a 14.1-inch MacBook Pro, a 16-inch MacBook Pro, a 10.2-inch iPad, and a 7.9-inch iPad mini. However, it seems that some of these products could be ready sooner than expected, and we could get the new iPad with mini-LED display in the first half of 2021.
Another product that may arrive in the first half of 2021 is the new AirPods 3, which could begin mass production in the first half of 2021. The new AirPods would adopt the System-in-Package that’s used in the AirPods Pro, which would replace the rigid-flex PCB+SMT design of the latest AirPods to give the new ones a design that will feature a shorter stem and replaceable ear tips.
“The AirPods 3 are expected to be more affordable and will lack higher-end features like Active Noise Cancellation. Battery life could be improved, though, and Apple is working on a new wireless chip.”
Kuo also suggests that Apple wants to include the new soft board technology in the next iPhone 13 lineup, which is also expected to arrive with a better camera and LTPO displays.
