Apple needs an urgent supply of LCD panels from LG Display

We have seen several reports on how the current situation is affecting sales for some big names in the tech world, but we have also seen how other companies have benefited from these times. The latest report suggests that Apple iPads have been selling well, and therefore, it has asked LG to ramp up production of LCD panels.

Apparently, the surge in demand for iPads during the pandemic in Asia has forced Apple to request more LCD panels from LG Display for these devices. Apple may have taken a bad decision when it lowered its orders of LCD displays to LG. It seems that Cupertino expected a drop in sales, but things haven’t gone as planned. Now, LG has to quickly deliver these LCD panels before Apple may want to consider other companies such as Sharp or BOE.

It seems that Amazon Prime Day sales will be delayed until September

Last year’s Amazon Prime Day took place in July, but it seems that this time, we will have to wait a bit longer for this event to arrive.

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected the way companies work, how they operate, and try to cope with their customer’s needs. Amazon was already thinking about how the ongoing situation would affect its Amazon Prime Day event back in February. Rumors also suggested that the event could take place in August, which would imply a one-month delay. However, new information says that this year’s Amazon Prime Day may be delayed until September.

This possible delay would allow Amazon to create room for more inventory and prepare shipping for more types of products. Whatever the case, this is still just another rumor, but hopefully, we will get a more specific date some weeks before the event takes place.

Samsung Galaxy S21 could arrive with Chinese OLED displays

This is not the first time we get rumors that Samsung is planning on buying display panels from BOE. The first time we heard these rumors were almost a month ago when rumors said that Samsung might want to use Chinese displays on its mid-range smartphones. However, new information suggests that we could even see these, less expensive OLED displays in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S21.

According to industry insiders, the base model of the Samsung Galaxy S21 may come with Chinese made OLED display. Samsung may have been negotiating with BOE for almost a month now, and it may have finally sent an official request for a quotation. These displays, however, don’t support 120Hz refresh rates, so they probably won’t be found in the higher-end variants, since these high refresh rates are a crucial selling point for the current flagships.

At the moment, Samsung may only be interested in BOE OLED displays capable of 90Hz refresh rates, while Samsung Display would still supply OLED panels with 120Hz support. It is also believed that Samsung Electronics is trying to make Samsung Display lower panel prices, as they may feel threatened to lose some orders to BOE. Whatever the case, it will also help Samsung reduce the manufacturing costs of its next Galaxy S flagship.

New Google Pixel 4a could be more affordable than iPhone SE

It seems that Google may give Apple a taste of its own. Apple may have stormed the market with the arrival of a new budget-friendly iPhone SE, but it seems that the new Google Pixel 4a may be better and more affordable than Apple’s offering.

The latest iPhone SE comes with 64GB in storage for $399, and a new leak from 9to5Google’s Stephen Hall, says that the Google Pixel 4a could arrive with the same 64GB in storage for $299, and you could even get the Pixel 4a with 128GB in storage for $349, which means $50 less than the iPhone SE’s starting price point. We recently saw the results of a performance test applied to a preproduction model of the Pixel 4a, and its results were promising.

The Google Pixel 4a is already being used by top Google executives

We are a couple of weeks away from the official launch of the new Google Pixel 4a. This device is supposed to arrive on May 22, and it’s also supposed to include a hole-punch selfie camera. Now, this last piece of information could’ve already been confirmed thanks to a screenshot taken by Rick Osterloh, Googles SVP of Hardware.

Rick Osterloh has recently earned the Earth badge on Fitbit, and he shared the screenshot on Twitter. However, this has revealed some information about the upcoming Google Pixel 4a. The screenshot could’ve been taken on a Pixel 4a devices. It is believed that the clock and some of the icons in the status and notification bar were pushed to the right, to make space for the devices new punch-hole selfie camera. In other words, he could’ve just confirmed one of the device’s new hardware features.

Now, what makes this image a bit more interesting is that he captured this screenshot at 10 am, and he was already at 80 percent battery charge. This could mean that the device drains its battery pretty quick, or who knows, this is just speculation, with a bit of concern. Let’s imagine that he unplugged his device at 7 am, that means 20 percent of charge gone in three hours, you do the math.

Samsung will fix the battery issues on its Galaxy Chromebook

The latest Samsung Galaxy Chromebook was amazing at first sight. Its design, display, and some of its features made it a desirable device for anyone looking for a new Chromebook. However, there is no such thing as a perfect product, and unfortunately, the battery life on this device is anything but great.

Samsung has recently admitted that it has made a mistake with the battery life in its latest Galaxy Chromebook. The device comes with a 49.2Wh battery that’s not small, but it has to manage a 3840×2160 AMOLED display, a 10th-gen Core i5 processor, and a 15W TDP. This workload may seem too much for its battery, which can usually hold up for an approximate of 4 hours before depleting. Samsung may now be working with Google to introduce a new power governor that would limit CPU performance when it’s not necessary and maybe a new battery-saving mode to keep the battery running longer.
