Intel announces 11th Gen Core H-series mobile processors for gaming laptops

Qualcomm’s second-gen ultrasonic fingerprint sensor is bigger and 50% faster

Fossil Gen 5 LTE costs $349 and let will let you take calls directly on the smartwatch

Jabra Elite 85t gets four new color options at CES 2021

Yes, CES is still happening but before we get into more specific launches, let’s talk about some of our favorite single out announcements. Beginning with Qualcomm as the company just launched the second generation to their ultrasonic fingerprint scanner. This new sensor is 77% larger than its predecessor and it works 50% faster, this improved sensor will reportedly debut with the S21, if history repeats itself. Intel just announced their 11th Gen Core H Series of mobile chips which power gaming laptops based on a 10nm process, supporting up to 5GHz clock speeds, PCIe Gen 4, Thunderbolt 4 and more features. But, 10nm huh Intel? The Jabra Elite 85Ts which are some of my favorite earbuds just got 4 new colorways, including Gold, Copper, Black and Grey in case you were waiting for some variety. Fossil just announced the Gen 5 LTE which brings a 45mm sleek design and it now allows you to take calls directly on the smartwatch which is pretty nice for $349. And guys, there’s so much more CES 2021 coverage on Pocketnow.com but, we have specific articles for each of these products and their details, in the links in the description.

AMD unleashes Zen 3-based Ryzen 5000 series mobile processors

NVIDIA unveils RTX 30 series laptop GPUs and GeForce RTX 3060 desktop graphics

Let’s keep talking about CES, we know that a lot of you guys like when we cover PC parts and well Nvidia and AMD are back at it again. Starting with AMD, they just unveiled their Ryzen 5000 Series of mobile processors, these are divided into 2 families, the H and the U Series. The H Series is targeted at gaming enthusiasts in both 6 and 8 core variants with peak clock speeds of 4.8GHz, interesting considering Intel is pushing 5GHz. When it comes to the U Series, these are aimed at ultra-books and the rest of mass market laptops, these range from 4 to 8 cores, with pretty much the same base specs as some of the H Series but only pushing up to 4.4GHz. AMD is looking at 23% higher single threaded performances and up to a 17% increase in multi-threaded performances. Moving on to Nvidia, the company just revealed the RTX 30 Series laptop GPUs and a RTX 3060 desktop GPU. These are based on their 3rd Gen Max Q technology, offering up to 2x ray tracing output, and the new tensor cores are claimed to be 2x more capable. Overall Nvidia is aiming at higher efficiency, better performance and refined acoustics here. Over 70 laptops with the RTX 30 Series will debut this month alone, so you can check out all of the specifics in the links below. For a minute there I was like – are we sure about that number or is it 7? But nope, 70 laptops.

HONOR announces MagicBook Pro, HONOR Band 6

Sticking to CES, let’s move on to Honor as, we know that the company went independent form Huawei a couple of months ago and they just announced their upcoming flagship products. First off we got the Honor MagicBook Pro which brings a 16.1in display with a 90% screen-to-body ratio. It’s powered by a 10th Gen Intel processor, along with 16GB of dual channel DDR4 RAM, and 512GB of PCIe NVMe SSD, when it comes to cooling it brings dual fans and dual heat pipes. It includes Bluetooth 5.0, an HDMI port, 3 USB A ports and a USB C port, as well as a headphone jack and a fingerprint sensor. It apparently charges up to 50% in just 30 minutes. Now, moving on to wearables we also got the Honor Band 6 which features a 1.47in AMOLED Display, supporting 10 workout modes and 14 days of battery life. It brings 5 ATM water resistance and it brings a heart rate monitor, oxygen monitor, sleep and stress monitor and even a female cycle tracker. It comes in three color variants including Meteorite Black, Sandstone Grey and Coral Pink. Sadly we didn’t get word on price tags yet but it should be on global markets very soon.

Is this the new design of the 2021 iPad Pro refresh?

Now let’s talk about Apple and particularly iPads as it does seem that Cupertino is planning an aggressive push here. Lately there’s been a ton of rumors on the upcoming iPads as, we’re expecting a refresh to the regular iPad and we’re supposed to get mini-LED displays on the Pros very soon. Now, we have some new CAD renders of both iPad Pro models coming from 91Mobiles and MySmartPrice. Starting with the bigger model, it looks like it’s bringing pretty much the same design language as the current model with the boxy design and the single USB-C port as well as the smart connector for the keyboard. The camera is still a dual module along with the LiDAR sensor. When it comes to the 11in version, it also looks like its predecessor which we got back in 2020 but, apparently it’s going to be a couple of millimeters thinner and shorter. The CAD renders also show that we might be getting a Touch ID sensor similar to the one on the iPad Air, and you can also notice it on the renders for the 12.9in iPad. We’re expecting these iPads some time this year, running on a variant of the A13 or A14 Bionic, along with a mini-LED display. It clearly seems that iPad sales are up given the pandemic if Apple plans to make a broader push and even bring a more aggressive price tag.

Story of the day:

Samsung Galaxy S21 retail box leak confirms the absence of a charger

Samsung unveils the 5nm-based Exynos 2100 flagship SoC that will power the Galaxy S21

And finally for the hottest news today, you guessed it. We’re literally a couple of days away from Samsung’s Unpacked but, there’s still a ton of leaks and information to Unpack here.. Let’s start with something official as Samsung just posted the full teaser for the S21 Series which is captioned “Welcome to the Everyday Epic”. It teases a lot of camera capabilities, mainly video, low light and zoom. It shows the silhouette of the device and some software tricks as well. Sticking to what’s official, the company just announced the Exynos 2100 which will power the S21 depending on your region. It is a 5G-ready chip based on a 5nm process and a tri-cluster core design allowing for a 30% increase in multi-core performance and 40% boost in graphics performance. It allows some crazy tricks like handling 6 cameras and 200MP resolution output, as well as handling 4K panels at up to 120Hz, or QHD+ at 144Hz but, we won’t bore you with specifics, we’ll have a specific link for this in the description. Back to the S21, we have some new posters showing off the design yet again, as well as teasing the 5G capabilities, the storage tiers and the camera. Now, the poster getting the most headlines is the one showing off the box and as you can see, it’s very thin. Meaning it’s pretty much official that we won’t be getting a charger or headphones this year. Go Green! And remember, you can already register for the S21 and get some perks, in the first link in the description. So yeah, with that teaser and all of the other posters, seriously what’s left?

Fossil Gen 5 LTE costs $349 and let will let you take calls directly on the smartwatch

Fossil has lifted the covers from its latest smartwatch – the Fossil Gen 5 LTE. As the name makes it abundantly clear, it is just an LTE-capable variant of the Fossil Gen 5 smartwatch. The latest Fossil offering comes with eSIM functionality to let users take calls and receive messages on the smartwatch without keeping it paired with their smartphone at all times. Additionally, it comes with untethered GPS functionality, so you can take it out for a jog as well for navigation assistance.

Swimproof, AMOLED display, and a day's worth of battery life

Talking about the specifications, the Fossil Gen 5 LTE features a round 1.28-inch AMOLED display that offers a sufficiently high pixel density of 328PPI. Inside, the smartwatch derives power from the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC – and not the newer Snapdragon Wear 4100 platform – paired with 1GB of RAM and 8 gigs of onboard storage. The device comes with a speaker as well that you can use for interacting with Google Assistant, notification alerts, listening to music, and of course, answering calls directly from the smartwatch.

Image: Fossil

A 310 mAh battery is there to keep the lights on, and it is claimed to go from 0-80 percent in 50 minutes. Given it is a Wear OS device, don’t expect the battery to last more than a day of normal usage. However, Fossil has baked in four smart battery modes that are claimed to extend the battery life to multiple days. Water-resistance on the Fossil Gen 5 LTE is rated at 3ATM, and the company says that you can take it out for a swim too.

A single 45mm case size, but two color options

The Fossil offering can also be used to control smart home devices such as lights and speakers. It comes in a single 45mm case size that takes 22mm straps, but you can choose between two colors – black and rose gold – with a wide range of straps to choose from.

As for the LTE functionality, it works exclusively with Verizon’s Number Share feature, but you’ll have to buy an additional data plan for your smartwatch alongside the existing one for your smartphone with the same number. The Fossil Gen 5 is priced at $359 and will be available in the spring season from the company’s official website and Verizon’s online shop as well as retail outlets.

Pocketnow Daily: iPad Air & Apple A14 Bionic Benchmarks: It’s a Beast? (video)

Apple’s 16-inch MacBook Pro, the latest 10.2-inch iPad and more on sale today

The official news today begin with deals, and actually good ones if you’re in the market for some expensive Apple products. Fossil Gen 5E offers Snapdragon 3100 and Wear OS smarts at a more affordable price point

Sticking to the official news, let’s talk about smartwatches, but not necessarily what we thought we’d receive. I mean, Google sort of invested in Fossil a while back, and we were hoping to see some light on that, but all we got is Fossil to announce the brand new Gen 5E. It brings a lot of the same hardware as the regular Gen 5 but it manages to bring down the price tag. It’s powered by the new Snapdragon Wear 3100 SoC, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of storage and one-day battery life. It runs on Google’s Wear OS and offers NFC. Variants bring a 1.19in AMOLED Display and it comes ion 42mm and 44mm sizes. It has a weird “tethered” GPS, meaning it uses the GPS from your phone instead of it’s own sensor so, if you’re into running, this one’s not for you… which hey the WearOS algorithm for running is something I wouldn’t recommend anyway. Thing is it’ll begin shipping on the week of November 3rd and it starts for $249.

The new Qualcomm Snapdragon 875 could be getting closer to launch

This year is finally winding down when it comes to dates, but not when it comes to announcements. One of the things we usually get by the end of the year is Qualcomm’s latest processor and this year won’t be no exception. The company just sent out press invitations for their 2020 Tech Summit which will happen on a digital format. The event will start on December 1st and end the next day. There’s no mention just yet on what we’re getting but, we are expecting the Snapdragon 875 SoC which will reportedly be built on a 5nm process. There’s also some rumors of different lite variants for this SoC, to help lower down the price tag for upcoming flagships. Thing is yes, no Maui trip this year.. Cause I guess we have to make way for the alien landing at some point.

OnePlus 8T 5G to feature an ultra-wide-angle selfie camera?

Now let’s talk OnePlus as you know things are just gearing up to their announcement. We’re less than 10 days away from OnePlus’ Ultra event for the 8T and well, the company keeps giving us bits and pieces of what to expect. This time they tweeted out “Strike a Pose with the 8T’s Ultra Wide Angle Camera” along with a 5 second teaser. It sort of implies that this is the selfie camera, but we doubt it’ll be the case. We will be getting the same punch hole design we got on the 8 Series but not a secondary one. Let’s see what improvements they bring to the standard Ultra Wide. The 8T is tipped to bring a 6.5in display running at 120Hz, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a 4500 mAh battery. The rumored price tag so far is $699 so, we’ll keep you posted as the event will be happening on October 14th.

Under display camera could skip the Samsung Galaxy S21, to arrive in the next Z Fold 3

Now let’s talk Samsung and what the company has in store when it comes to innovation. Last we’ve heard, not much if Samsung mobile is planning to work with other companies that are not Samsung for Displays. Anyways, last year Samsung introduced different types displays like the Infinity O which is the one we’re currently getting on their smartphones but, we know that their main goal is to put the camera under the display to give you a truly bezel-less experience. Well, according to a new report from the Elec, Samsung was aiming to put this technology on the Z Fold 2 but, that obviously didn’t happen. And, they claim that due to low production yield of the technology, they won’t be able to put it on the Galaxy S21 but, we would still get it next year. The report claims that the technology would be ready for the second half of 2021 and that the Galaxy Z Fold 3 will be the first device to bring it. Samsung is currently working on a better solution for the under the display camera that won’t compromise as much image quality than what current solutions do. Let’s just hope the S21 brings Samsung panels, though.

Story of the day:

iPad Air 4 benchmark listing reveals 4GB RAM and impressive performance gain

And finally the hottest news today have to do with Apple, the A14 Bionic, and more details on the new iPad Air. On the first report we have the iPad Air going through some benchmarks and revealing specs. Apparently it’ll bring 4GBs of RAM, running on iOS 14 and the A14 that’ll power it will be a 6-core processor. On a second note, and staying on the iPad topic for a little while, Apple’s VP of Marketing went on iJustine and Jenna’s Same Brain podcast to talk about the new iPad. On it, he mentioned that the Touch ID sensor on the power button was an incredible feat of engineering which is, kinda hilarious, considering how late they are to the power button trend. Still, more was said about the chip, which was then matched with some other benchmarks that emerged on it. He said that when comparing it to the A12Z, the 12Z is optimized for pro workflows and experiences that may be more graphic intensive, but the A14 offers more all-around capabilities. If you look at the separate benchmarks, and to sum it up and not bore you with details: it’s significantly faster than the A13 Bionic, and it still does better than the A12Z in both single core and multicore. Surely not the 40% Apple mentioned cause that’s an A12 Bionic comparison, but still a really big boost. The iPad Air will be available later this month with a starting price of $599.

Fossil Gen 5E offers Snapdragon 3100 and Wear OS smarts at a more affordable price point

Fossil has today launched its latest Wear OS smartwatch – the Fossil Gen 5E (‘E’ for ‘Economical’, eh?). As the name suggests, it is a slightly toned-down version of the vanilla Fossil Gen 5 smartwatch. The Fossil Gen 5E omits the two physical shortcut buttons flanking the crown on the Fossil Gen 5, and it also lacks in-built GPS as it relies on a tether system that shows data obtained from your smartphone. The onboard storage has been reduced to 4GB on the new Fossil smartwatch compared to 8GB on the Fossil Gen 5. Lastly, the new Fossil offering also lacks a compass, ambient light sensor, and altimeter as well.

It is priced at $249 for all sizes and is now up for pre-order from the official Fossil website. The Fossil Gen 5E comes in two sizes – 44mm for men and a new 42mm model for women. The 44mm variant comes in three styles and uses a 22mm strap, while the 42mm model is up for grabs in four design choices and takes 18mm straps. Both the 44mm and 42mm models feature an identical 1.19-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 390 x 390 pixels that translates to a pixel density of 328ppi.

Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 3100 keeps the device running in tandem with 1GB of RAM, while Wear OS handles the software side of things. The Fossil Gen 5E smartwatch packs a 300mAh battery that is claimed to last a full day, while fast charging ensures that it can be charged from 0-80% in just 50 minutes. The watch is claimed to be splash-proof, thanks to 3ATM water resistance rating. However, Fossil claims that its latest smartwatch is swim-proof as well.

Talking about features, the onboard speaker will let you attend calls, interact with Google Assistant and get audible notification alerts. Plus, it can also be used to control connected smart home device via the Google Assistant. Coming to fitness-centric features, the Fossil Gen 5E is capable monitoring of heart-rate, activity tracking, sleep tracking as well as cardio health tracking. It also supports contactless payments via NFC and offers multiple battery modes such as daily mode, extended mode (runs only essential features), clock mode (shows only the time but extends the battery life to over a week), and a custom mode as well.

Razer’s new Blade 17 Pro offers a 300Hz display and NVIDIA’s RTX 2080 Super graphics

One with a 17.3in FHD IPS display at 300Hz refresh rate and another 17.3in 4K touch display at 120Hz. The specs include an 8-core 10th Gen Intel i7, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, up to 2TB of SSD and graphics can go up to an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 Super Max Q. Asus ROG Phone 3 reportedly spotted on WiFi Alliance and Geekbench

We know a lot of you are huge fans of the ASUS ROG Phones and it looks like we might be getting another one soon, thought this one doesn’t seem like the powerhouse its predecessors were. It was just spotted on Geekbench and the WiFi Alliance, sporting the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, 8GB of RAM and running Android 10. The model number is pretty similar to the one we got for the ROG Phone 2 so it only makes sense. This phone could launch in the second half of the year, we’ll keep you posted once we get more leaks.

It seems that Amazon Prime Day sales will be delayed until September

The WSJ claims that Amazon will be delaying their Prime Day this year for, obvious reasons. Previous reports speculated that they would delay it until August but this report claims that they will be pushing it back until September. This delay would create room for more inventory and prepare shipping for more types of products. This will most likely not hurt Amazon too much but instead the third party companies that get more sales through Prime Day. We don’t have an official date for Prime Date yet, but it won’t happen in July. Thing is, let’s be honest. I don’t think anyone is really looking for some crazy shopping in the current state of the economy.

The iPhone 12 may arrive without bundled earphones

According to Ming Chi Kuo, Apple is ready to make their next courageous move. In his latest report, Apple will stop shipping wired EarPods inside the iPhone 12 lineup’s box. This would create an inconvenience for most of the consumers which use these earbuds but, it would also boost up AirPods sales for the holidays. This goes along with Kuo’s report that Apple won’t be releasing more AirPods this year, as they might be trying to sell as much from the current models as they can. Some sources claim that we might get an AirPods bundle with the iPhone 12 but, you never know with Apple. Now why is this important? I know most Android OEMS don’t bundle earbuds, but the iPhone was always meant to be a successor to the iPod. It’s been legendarily known for the earbuds in the box since generation 1. You see people with them all the time. Oh well..

Story of the day:

Pixel 4a reportedly delayed again, might now be announced on July 13

And finally the most interesting news today continue to be Google Pixel 4a, but NOT necessarily for good reasons today. We’ve been getting more and more Pixel leaks lately because, we thought we were getting closer to the launch date for the 4a. First we were expecting it to launch around May 15th but that was clearly delayed, and we were expecting a June launch which made sense because of the Android 11 Event but it seems that won’t be the case, again… Gotta hand it to Jon Prosser for his track record in leaks, and in his new report, the Pixel 4a will be delayed once again and it will get a July 13th announcement. According to his sources, the phone is ready to ship but it keeps getting pushed because of the market’s condition due to the pandemic. Apparently it will bring a regular Snapdragon 7 Series chip with no 5G, and he also pretty much confirms that we won’t be getting an XL variant after all. The Pixel 5 might get pushed back as well.
