Entire mid-range Samsung Galaxy A (2016) smartphone family ‘confirmed’ for Nougat updates

In a way, it certainly pays off to flood the smartphone market with dozens of different models each year, covering every specific size, build, processing and pricing need consumers around the world may feel.

That’s actually one of the reasons why Samsung is still the number one mobile hardware vendor, even after the Galaxy Note 7 snafu, with so many low, mid and high-end product rosters to choose from. But software support is often the reverse of the medal.

Seeing as how Android 7.0 isn’t quite ready for primetime yet as far as a single Galaxy flagship is concerned, you’re probably wondering what that means for older, humbler Samsung devices. Long waiting times, most likely, but no shocking snubs, fortunately.

It’s reportedly “confirmed” now that the 2016 editions of the mid-range Galaxy A3, A5, A7, A8, A9 and A9 Pro will all leave Marshmallow behind to embrace sweet Nougat goodies… eventually. Yes, even the 4.7-inch Snapdragon 410/Exynos 7578 Galaxy A3 (2016), released back in December 2015 with Lollipop out the box.

Sadly, we don’t have update ETAs to share at the moment, although it’s safe to assume the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, Note 5, S6, S6 Edge, Edge+, and Tab S2, at the very least, will jump on the Android Nougat bandwagon first. And then you need to consider the looming 2017 Galaxy A lineup, which may well run Marshmallow off the bat, switching to OS build N soon after their commercial launches.

How much higher can it go? Mystery ‘mid-end’ Samsung Galaxy C9 reportedly incoming

Samsung is basically doing the opposite of a limbo dance, raising the mid-range Android smartphone specification bar step by step until eventually the entire Galaxy lineup will be one big, happy flagship family. No one really wants that, of course, and J2 sales numbers prove there’s quite a large global audience for entry-level, super-affordable Samsung handhelds, despite other brands technically offering superior quality-pricing ratios in the sub-$200 space. The same probably goes for the ...

Galaxy A8 is the latest non-flagship Samsung to jump on Marshmallow bandwagon

While it’s unquestionably sad to see so many decent Android devices still frozen on an OS version that’s nearly two years old and never thrilled with its stability and smoothness, a couple of hardware manufacturers are certainly pulling their weight in the Marshmallow distribution effort.Samsung in particular deserves praise for not just hooking up owners of recent, expensive Galaxy flagships with Android 6.0 goodies, also

Samsung Galaxy A9 also receives Android 6.0 Marshmallow over-the-air

While there might still be little portions of a largely Samsung-controlled world where 2014 or 2015 flagships are yet to receive official Marshmallow updates, the Korean behemoth and its tireless team of software engineers have moved on to lesser phones and a few tablets in an effort to spread the Android 6.0 love as wide as possible. The Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 and Tab A 9.7 both recently left Lollipop ...

Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro goes official in China with 4GB RAM, 5,000 mAh battery

Another confusingly familiar, confusingly branded, confusingly priced mid-range Android smartphone from Samsung? Not exactly, or at least, not entirely.Granted, on the outside, the just-announced Galaxy A9 Pro looks essentially identical to the standard A9 unveiled back in December. And the name is inherently puzzling, making it even harder than before to keep track of all the inexplicably similar A-series,

New Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro benchmarks show how it improves over Galaxy A9 itself

So much of the recent Samsung smartphone news has focused on the flagship Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge that it’s easy for the little guys to fall through the cracks – even when that “little” guy is a phablet larger than either flagship. But going back a little over a month now, we’ve had a few opportunities to hear about a new A-series handset in Samsung’s pipeline as we checked out rumors and evidence pointing to work on a six-inch Galaxy A9 Pro. How would the phone differ from the ...

Samsung Galaxy A9 Pro closes in on official launch, wild guess calls for Windows 10 onboard

Market cannibalization and brand dilution have been two of Samsung’s biggest sins for several years now, and while the repetitive Galaxy S7 Plus and S7 Edge Plus are probably not happening this spring after all, a Galaxy A9 Pro is.Or so it would appear, based on intel exclusively shared by credible tipsters with SamMobile

Samsung Galaxy A9 ready to launch next week?

Samsung’s got a bunch of new Galaxy A-series smartphones on the way; we’ve been tracking their progress towards launch for weeks, and while we’re still not there quite yet, recent developments have brought us some great finds, like the new Galaxy A7 pics we checked out earlier today, showing off the fresh, GS6-like look Samsung’s going with.
