Google Maps app adds payment tool for parking and public transit fares
It goes without saying that Google Maps is a pretty handy tool, and now, the mobile app is getting even more useful. The company is adding a Google Pay integration in the Google Maps app that will allow users to pay for parking tickets and public transport fares in a jiffy, without having to switch between the navigation and payment apps.
The ability to pay for parking tickets goes live today across 400+ cities in the US on Android
Google has partnered with parking solution service providers Passport and ParkMobile to let users pay for parking even before reaching the designated spot. All you have to do is tap on the “Pay for Parking” button as you draw closer to your destination. Once the prompt appears, all you have to do is enter details such as the amount of time you want your vehicle parked and the meter number for verification.
Additionally, you will also be able to add extra hours of parking time if the need arises, using the same Google Pay integration in the navigation app. The ability to pay for parking tickets goes live today across 400+ cities in the US on Android, and will soon make its way to the iOS app as well.
Google Maps will let you pay for transit in 80 locations locally in the coming weeks
Aside from paying for parking space, Google Maps is also expanding the ability to pay for public transportation fares by collaborating with more than 80 agencies worldwide. While planning their trip, Google Maps will allow users to pay in advance and also get information about the supported payment options at their destination. The ability to pay for transit tickets will go live internationally within the next few weeks on Android.
“When you get transit directions, you’ll see the option to pay with your phone with the credit or debit cards already linked to your Google Pay account,” the company added in its official blog post. And if you happen to live in a select few locations such as the San Francisco Bay Area, the Google Maps app will also allow you to buy a digital Clipper card and pay for it, and get it verified by tapping your phone on the reader.

OPPO Find X3 series to come with system-wide 10-bit color support
OPPO got on the spotlight yesterday thanks to their new concept smartphone and the other things we got at their INNO Day Conference. Well, Day 2 just happened in China and, they just confirmed that they are working on the Find X3 Series. Now, we don’t have much information on what we’re getting here but, one thing they did say is that we will be getting a native 10-bit display on this phone. OPPO says that they’re R&D team is preparing new algorithms in areas like distortion-correction, multi-frame noise reduction and extreme super-resolution. It will support Digital Overlap HDR mode. Check out the links in the description for other technical details they mentioned but, the Find X2 Pro already had probably my favorite display of the year, so we’re not going to complain about it getting better.
Google Pay app gets a redesign and some new features
Now let’s talk about Google as the company has just unveiled a revamp to their Google Pay app through a livestream today. Basically it delivers a complete redesign. It now shows you friends and family to which you can pay directly and nearby businesses that accept Google Pay as well in the top right corner. You also get other features like payment history at certain establishments as well as a new Explore Tab and a new Insights Tab. Google’s objective is for you to manage your money better with a budget feature in the Insights tab and they are also adding support for Plaid which lets you connect your bank or credit card. Another cool feature is letting you import pictures of receipts from Google Photos, that is if you’re still using it after the dilemma. There’s a ton of other features coming to the app so, check out the links below and FYI, the update is currently rolling out in the US to both Google Play and iOS.

And since we started with Google, Let’s talk about Google Chrome as, the company is bringing some very interesting and welcome changes. Yesterday they announced v87, which is currently rolling out, and it gives Chrome its biggest boost in performance in years. You get upgrades like it opening 25% faster and page loading speed is going up by 7%, all while using less RAM and cutting down on the power consumption. They’re also adding other things like tab search, action buttons for better productivity and more. Something else we just got is an optimized version of Chrome for the new M1 Macs which we are testing as, the regular Chrome app quits pretty often if you’re not on the optimized version. Now, if you go to their website, you might not see the optimized one so if you’re rocking one, make sure to check out the link in our description to get it. So yeah, we hope Chrome works out all of their resource issues as they have been working on it for quite some time now.
Samsung might be working on a cheaper foldable phone called Galaxy Z Flip Lite
Samsung has really shifted their strategy towards foldables as of late and with those rumors of the Galaxy Note disappearing it makes a lot of sense. Well, a couple of days ago we covered a list of Samsung flagships that we should expect next year and a couple of them were cheaper foldables, one of them being a Z Fold FE and a a Z Flip Lite. Well, according to a new tweet from Ross Young, they are no longer hearing about a Z Fold Lite or FE anymore but apparently the Z Flip Lite is still on the table. What’s kind of impressive here is that Samsung will still be using their UTG technology on this phone, despite it being a cheaper device. This means that it won’t be as fragile as the original Galaxy Fold and it ensures some longevity. Of course this is still a rumor though, we are somewhat close to the Spring already which is when we got the original Z Flip. The thing about it is, we know that a lot of you guys are interested on foldables but the price tag is simply a deal breaker so, would you guys like a Z Flip Lite?

Apple is halving its commission rate to 15% for most developers
And finally for the hottest news today, we have something that’s oddly for the ban section which Diego still hasn’t made graphics for. Well not really but, almost part of the ban section let’s move on to Apple. If you remember, the whole Apple vs Epic situation started because of Apple’s infamous 30% tax, which Epic Games wanted them to waive for customers to pay the actual value at which they sell their cosmetics. Well, you already know how that went but, it seems like Apple is doing something for smaller developers through their new “Small Business Program”. Cupertino just announced that they are lowering their commission to 15% but, it is strictly for developers that earned $1M or less in the previous calendar year. Apple mentions that this will benefit the vast majority of developers that sell digital goods and other services on the App Store, with this new Business Program launching on January 1st, 2021. They also said how small businesses are the backbone of the global economy and the beating heart of innovation and opportunity in communities around the world. For developers who surpass the $1M threshold, they will still get the 30% commission but, if somehow they fall below that $1M mark by the end of the year, they will be able to apply and get the 15% through the program. So, it looks like what Epic Games was doing did work, just not for them.

Google Pay app gets a redesign and some new features
Google Pay has come a long way since its launch back in 2015, and the guys over at Google decided that it was time to make some changes and improvements as to how you can make use of the app. The digital wallet will now focus on keeping track of your finances while also helping you manage financial relationships with people and businesses.
The Google Pay app will get some nice new changes with its recently announced overhaul. The app will start displaying friends and businesses, users interact more often, instead of a simple transaction list. It will also feature new built-in tools that will allow users to separate expenses and calculate totals with another person. Google Pay will also allow you to buy food, and whatever comes to mind.
The new version of the Google Pay app is already available for download from the Play Store, and it will allow you to pay gas at select gas stations and parking from your device. It will all depend on whether the retailers have support for the app or not, but that will most likely improve with time.
Changes include a new “Explore” and “Insight” tab that will help you get around, see where you can use the app to complete transactions, get discounts and get an idea of how you’re spending money. However, there’s another chance to keep in mind, as Google Pay will be locked to only one smartphone at a time. Signing in to a second phone will force the first one to disconnect from your account. You will also have to go through the setup process again, and only after the new device is verified will you be able to complete purchases, while the first device will show a warning.
“Your Google Pay account is being used on another device. To continue using Google Pay, please sign in with a different account.”
However, the Google Pay refresh wasn’t the only announcement, as we will also get new ‘Plex’ bank accounts with Citi as a “new way to bank in Google Pay.” You get a new “Plex Account” homepage that will show you savings and checking balance. It also features quick actions that will allow you to move money and add money to your account, check your account details, lock your card, and manage your account.
Some of the best features of this new Plex Account in Google Pay include an activity feed that shows past transactions organized by your accounts, the accounts are also free to open, and there will no be no fees for monthly service, low balance, in-network ATM use and more. Further, these accounts will come with Google-designed debit cards when the first Plex Accounts start coming in 2021. If you’re interested, the waitlists are already available today.

Google Pay not working on Android 11 beta? Google says a fix is coming soon
Android beta builds are often riddled with bugs, and Android 11’s first public beta that was released earlier this week is no exception. This time around, the beta brings issues for the Google Pay app, showing a “Your phone is no longer ready for contactless payments” error when setting it up for the first time after installing Android 11 Beta 1.
It comes as a huge convenience for users, but thankfully, Google has taking cognizance of the issue and has promised to fix it soon. “We are aware some users can’t access Google Pay as part of the current build. We will be making it available soon,” a Google spokesperson was quoted as saying by XDA-Developers.
However, this issue only affects users going for in-store payment. If you live in India and use the UPI system for peer-to-peer online payments, you won’t face any problem making transactions using Google Pay if your phone is running Android 11 beta. However, you will be asked to verify your phone number again and also enter the UPI PIN to activate your linked account.
