Unlimited Google Photo backups will be unavailable with future Pixel phones

Yesterday’s Google announcement to make some changes to its storage policies came as a shock to most of us. These changes include a new auto-delete policy for accounts that are inactive and for users who have surpassed their storage limits. However, these aren’t the only changes that are coming, as it seems that Google won’t offer free unlimited storage in Google Photos with future Pixel devices.

It seems that this may be a great moment to buy a new Google Pixel device if you’re interested in free, unlimited Google Photos backups. Google’s latest changes to its storage policies will start taking effect on June 1, 2021. This means that from that date, any new photo and video you upload will count toward the free 15GB storage each user receives with his or her Google account. Further, any new document will also add up to a users’ limit.

Now, things don’t stop there, as Google has also announced that future Google Pixel devices won’t include unlimited ‘high-quality’ Google Photo backups while existing Pixel devices will continue to do so. This is because every Google Pixel device before the Google Pixel 5 will be exempt from Google’s policy change.

“If you back up your photos and videos in Original quality, these changes do not affect you. As always, your Original quality photos and videos will continue to count toward your 15 GB of free storage across your Google Account.

“If you have a Pixel 1-5, photos uploaded from that device won’t be impacted. Photos and videos uploaded in High quality from that device will continue to be exempt from this change, even after June 1, 2021.”

In other words, the latest Google Pixel a4 and Pixel 5 may be your best option to avoid paying $1.99 per month if you want 100GB of storage space to keep your future pictures, videos and documents backed up. And you must also remember to check your accounts every now and then to stop the automatic deletion of your files.

It’s been a while since we’ve talked about my favorite phone, the LG Velvet. Wait what? Well if you remember, the phone was originally just launched in Korea but now it’s finally expanding. LG just announced in a press release that the Velvet will be making it’s way to European markets like Germany, Italy, Spain, Hungary and Poland starting this month. And for those of you on the other side of the pond, it’ll be available in North America, Latin America, Africa, Asia and the Middle East in the weeks that follow. We’ll keep you posted once it comes out because I can’t wait to review it.

Here’s the first real-life image of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Watch 3

The Galaxy Watch 3 is probably one of Samsung’s most leaked products. Yesterday we got a full blown list of specs and now we get images of the watch and well, let’s just say it look familiar. Not that I have anything to complain about with the original design of the Galaxy Watch, but let’s just say this is a very similar twin.. These images come from a South Korean NRAA listing and they show the certification information which includes the model number, certification date and of course, both of the watch variants. These are expected to come in 41 and 45mm variants, bring 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage and bring an IP68 certification. According to the leaks we should get these earlier, some time during July along with the leaked Galaxy Buds Live.

Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 rumors give us two batteries under the hood

We may have to wait a bit longer to get the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2

Speaking of Samsung, we have some new leaks about the upcoming Galaxy Fold. First off, we know we’re getting an upgrade in looks, but today we get more information on specs. According to a new leak from Twitter, the Fold 2 will bring 2 batteries. This dual battery system will consist of a 2090 mAh and 2275 mAh batteries which add up to 4365 mAh which is less then what we got with the original Fold but according to the tipster, we should expect better battery life thanks to a more power efficient chipset. On another report, it looks like this phone might be very limited once it comes out. According to them, the Fold 2’s software hasn’t reached the first version of its bootloader yet, which means it’s far from being finalized. Another source also claims that there will barely be any production in July and it will most likely start in August, meaning that it will hit stores in late August or September, and it will be very limited. This may be because of supply constraints for the UTG but we’re still expecting the Fold to launch at Unpacked and with a cheaper price tag.

                        Story of the day:

We may get 120Hz refresh rates in the iPhone 12 Pro

And finally the hottest news today have to do once again with the iPhone 12, and more of what we’re gonna get in the package, and how much it’ll cost you. Yeah you might not like that. Starting off with spec updates DSSC’s Ross Young just tweeted out a new picture with a list of 2020 phones that will bring 120Hz displays. On the list we can see some phones that are already out, like the OnePlus 8 Pro, OPPO Find X2, ASUS ROG Phone 2 but, we also see upcoming phones like the Mate 40 and the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max. Now, if you go by this list it may seem like the regular iPhones will bring a 60Hz display which is still a possibility but other sources have said that we may be getting 90Hz displays. On another note, supply chain sources say that we may be getting thinner iPhones this year but, that won’t sacrifice battery life as Apple is planning to use their multi-layer stacked mother board which gives more space for the batteries. Then we have another image popping up on Reddit which claims the regular 12s will bring a 60Hz display and the BOE name has been scratched from the display listing for those of you that were worried. It also brings a list of other specs which we’ve covered already, along with the notch that’s 33% smaller.. Now the part where things get tricky is when we talk price. Seems that the regular iPhone 12 might start at $700 instead of $649, while the 12 Max will start at $800. So yeah, it seems the iPhone 11 successor, which is that 12 max is getting more expensive. It has triple cameras at the back, a 4000 mAh battery, and it runs Android 10 out of the box. The Moto E has a 6.2in Max Vision HD+ display, a Snapdragon 632, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. It has dual cameras at the back, a 3550 mAh battery and it runs Android 10 out of the box as well. You can get them on Amazon, Motorola.com and B&H, the Moto G Fast will cost you $200 and the E will cost you$150.

Samsung Galaxy S20 5G UW is now available on Verizon

If you remember, a couple of weeks ago we talked about how the regular Galaxy S20 5G was making its way to Verizon, meaning yes, the original only supported Sub-6, but this new one now included mmWave. Now, you can finally get an S20 from Verizon and it will be available in Cosmic Gray, Cloud Pink and Cloud White. It costs the same $999 as everywhere else but, they’re giving you $150 in credit if you get it today on a 24 month installment plan. Yeah, already late, I know, but you can still try.

Customers are reporting a bug in their iPhone 11’s display

If you’ve been following my social media, which you should, you know that my iPhone 11 Pro died on me a couple of months ago. First I thought it was a problem only my unit was having, so I didn’t make a big deal out of it, but I was wrong. A bunch of users on Reddit are having a similar issue where their iPhone 11s are getting a greenish tint on the display when they unlock the device. The report claims it could be a software issue as it happens to all three iPhone 11 models and it happens when you have Dark Mode and Night Shift at the same time. If it is a software update, Apple could fix it with iOS 13.5.5 but at the moment there’s no other way to fix it. Here’s the problem though, my screen is dead. It’s completely white. It would intensify when the phone got hot, so I doubt that’s the way to fix the problem.

Apple has delayed iPhone 12 series launch to Q4 2020, suggests Broadcom chief

We know that the iPhone 12 line up is facing a very confusing time line with everything that’s happening. According to Bloomberg, Broadcom’s CEO discussed a “major product cycle delay” from a “large North American mobile phone” on an earnings conference call. He claims that their revenue in Q3 will be significantly lower and that they don’t expect to see an uptick until Q4. This means we could see the iPhone 12 until Q4 since it makes most of Broadcom’s Q3 earnings. This goes along with other reports from Ming Chi Kuo, the WSJ and more which have hinted to an October or November launch. We could also have the announcement on its usual schedule and some variants delayed, kind of like what happened with the iPhone 8 and the iPhone X.

                        Story of the day:

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series could let you choose between a curved or a flat display

And finally the hottest news today have to do with, well, something that I’ve wanted to see on a Galaxy Note for years, and that we might finally get, but NOT on all models. See, It looks like there’s more difference between the two upcoming Note variants than we thought. We have some new case renders for the Note 20 line up that show the phone from different angles. If you look at it from the side you can tell that the Note 20+ will be getting a curved display while the regular Note 20 seems to bring a flat screen. If this does happen, this may be the first flagship Samsung will be releasing without a curved display since the Galaxy S8. Even if yeah, the S20 is kinda flat. The leaks also show the camera array, but it looks pretty different than the other renders we’ve been seeing. We should take these with a grain of salt but the rest of the design checks out with the other leaks. Pocketnow Daily: iPhone 13 Camera Leak Says A LOT about iPhone 12… (video)

Today we find the Google Pixel 3a and more products on sale

Deals. Best Buy currently has the Google Pixel 3a for $230 for the 64GB variant, however, the Pixel 3a XL is just $270 for the 64GB variant as well. Amazon currently has the Beats Solo 3 with a slight $20 discount, leaving them at $179 shipped. The Galaxy Watch Active 2 is up to $75 off at both Amazon and B&H, which for those of you who always ask, yes that’s the watch I wear, and depending on the color variant you can get it for as low as $224. I say go silver as it’s easier to blend with 3rd party watch faces that age better. We also have more deals on Fender speakers, smart-thermostats and more in the links in the description.

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Watch Active stops by FCC, revealing some juicy details

And speaking of my smartwatch of choice, we have some new leaks for the upcoming Galaxy Watch which we’re expecting to see in August. It just went through a new certification from the FCC revealing some new specs. We have two new sketches, the new Galaxy Watch will bring a 45mm stainless steel case, and it should also come in titanium and aluminum. It brings GPS and LTE connectivity and it will allegedly simply be called Galaxy Watch. However, we also have a sketch for the Galaxy Watch 2 but it doesn’t show the full name either or much details about it. So yeah, we wonder what they mean with that 2.

OPPO could have Qualcomm, MediaTek and HiSilicon engineers working on its new chip

OPPO has been working on bringing their own SoC to the market for a while now. According to a new Nikkei Asian report, OPPO is aggressively recruiting engineers from well-known companies to work on their new SoC. The report claims that they are in contact with MediaTek, UniSoc and other inside sources say that they are also in talks with Qualcomm and Huawei’s HiSilicon. An OPPO representative said that they are investing heavily in R&D to strengthen and simplify supply chain. Obviously we won’t be getting this anytime soon and it might take a couple of years, got It’s interesting to see how OPPO keeps evolving, and we know how that impacts other popular brands like OnePlus.

Instagram will soon monetize IGTV videos for online video creators to earn money

It’s no secret that people have been earning money through Instagram for the longest time but not necessarily through Instagram. You mostly had to do sponsored content from third parties and well the company is finally ready to monetize content for their creators. The company is rolling out new tools to introduce ads and allow creators to sell badges through IGTV. When it comes to the ads, they’ll be built for mobile and last 15 seconds each, 55% of the ad revenue will go to the creators. The badges will be kind of like a Twitch subscription where a fan would purchase it, get a special badge in the comments and they will get access to certain different perks. Badges will begin testing next month in certain countries and ads should start rolling out as of right now with some specific creators. We have a full list in the links in the description.

Color options for the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series may have been leaked

We’ve been getting a lot of leaks for the Galaxy Note 20 line-up as we get closer to August. Recently we got different CAD renders showing off the design and now we get some leaked color variants. According to an inside source, the regular Note 20 will come in gray, green, and copper color variants while the Note 20+ will come in black and copper flavors. It looks like Samsung is looking for more simplified colors when compared to the flashy color variants from the Note 10, the source also claims that it won’t be the same copper variant we got with the Note 9 and instead it will be more of a gold-ish hue. It’s also possible that these aren’t all the colors as Samsung always launches more after the fact.

                        Story of the day:

The iPhone 13 may come with a killer camera according to the latest leak

And finally the hottest news today have to do with the iPhone 12, or should I say iPhone 13. Not sure if you noticed but every time Apple makes a change in design, that becomes the major feature, and not really any bump in specs or functionality. Well, it seems that’ll be the case this year. Like sure, we’ve been hearing about different changes for the iPhone 12 like the removal of the Lightning Earbuds, the LiDAR sensor and more, but it seems like major changes will happen until the iPhone 13. We covered the going port-less theory a few days ago, and now, we have some new leaks, The same source claims that these leaks should be taken with a huge amount of salt but it looks like Apple is going for major camera improvements until next year. He claims that we’ll be getting a quad camera array that includes a 64MP main sensor. Yeah 1x optical zoom is no x, but it does seem to bring 6x digital from it. Then there’s a 40MP telephoto with up to 5x optical zoom in addition, and then a 64MP anamorphic lens for video capture, plus a 40MP ultra wide and the LiDAR sensor we’re expecting for the iPhone 12. Yeah that’s a lot of camera Subscribe: http://bit.ly/pocketnowsub http://pocketnow.com Follow us: http://flipboard.com/@Pocketnow http://facebook.com/pocketnow http://twitter.com/pocketnow http://google.com/+pocketnow

Here’s your first official look at the VIVO X50 and X50 Pro

Oh so you thought the Galaxy S20 had a big camera hump? Well, vivo has been teasing their new X50 Pro which brings a gimbal like main camera. The company just released a new poster of the phone which shows the quad camera module with the huge main sensor. This main camera is a Samsung 50MP ISOCELL GN1 Sensor which comes with Dual Pixel PDAF tech for faster focusing, it basically rotates on it’s axis like a gimbal for better stabilization. The other cameras include a periscope, and most likely a wide angle and a macro camera. We’re expecting the vivo X50 lineup to launch on June 1.

ASUS ROG Phone III and ZenFone 7 to debut around July: Report

Back in February Qualcomm gave us a list of phones that would bring the Snapdragon 865 and, that list included two ASUS phones. It looks like both of those phones are ready to launch according to a new report from Taiwan which claims that the ROG Phone 3 and the ZenFone 7 will either in Q2 or early Q3 of 2020. Going by last year’s launch date, if they do launch in July or August they will be late by a couple of months when compared to their predecessors but, the market isn’t in the same state as it was last year. The company is currently targeting a 30-50% growth in sales for the ROG Phone 3. We’ll keep you posted in case we get more leaks.

Second-gen Moto Razr foldable phone could be launched in September

We all know how excited I was for the Moto RAZR last year, and we all know how that turned out. Well, according to Lenovo’s South African GM, the company is already working on a second generation device and it is supposed to come out in September. He actually mentioned the words “generation two” twice during a podcast while talking about the RAZR. Leaks will most likely start coming in soon and we hope it brings better specifications for the price tag, nostalgia can only go so far.

Apple may have started the production of the new AirPods Studio

A new DigiTimes report claims that we’ll be getting Apple’s AirPods Studio sooner rather than later. The report mentions the fact that Apple will be dropping the wired earphones from the iPhone 12’s box like we covered yesterday. It also mentions that Cupertino will resume regular shipments of the AirPods 2 in the second half of this year, which we wonder if it has anything to do with the move of production to Vietnam, but that does match the timing of the possible AirPods Studio. The company has apparently already started production for these and we could see an announcement at WWDC and they might cost $350.

                        Story of the day:

We may get a Periscope camera in the Samsung Galaxy Note 20+

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 could’ve appeared in some hot looking renders

We recently got some sketches for the Galaxy Note 20′s design from Ice Universe. Now we got the first renders which were made based on that leaked design. The phone looks pretty similar to the Note 10 from the front with the very boxy design but it does bring some changes. The camera on this one has a larger hump, like the one on the S20 Ultra, the buttons are also on the right side and the S Pen was moved to the left. Like seriously, common sense changes. Now, these aren’t the official renders just yet but, this gives us a pretty good idea of what it might look like according to the sketches. Galaxy Club just found some new information and they claim that the Note 20+ will most likely bring a periscope camera. It isn’t clear if it will be the same one on the S20 Ultra and some other rumors claim that it won’t bring 100X zoom, but it pretty much explains the large camera hump for this phone as well.
