Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2, Pixel 4 and OnePlus smartphones are on sale

The M1 MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and Mac mini are also on sale today

The official news today begin with deals, and don’t forget we’ve got time stamps below in case you want to skip this for what’s happening today. Let’s start with OnePlus, which is really making a case for you to buy the 8 Series, probably more than even their own 9 series. Starting with the fact that they have the 8 Pro for 300 dollars off its original price tag, leaving it at 699 for the entry level variant and you get free Buds Z in white. Those Buds Z are actually pretty good by the way. They are also running a Flash Sale on the Nord Series where you can get the N10 for 279 and the N100 for 170 bucks, and it finishes on the 27th. Moving on to Amazon, the Google Pixel 4 is available for 300 dollars off its original price, leaving the entry level model for 496. If you want a foldable, Amazon has the Galaxy Z Fold 2 renewed for 1486 and I mean, if you do the math that’s actually a solid deal with how Amazon guarantees that program. We have more deals on other Samsung smartphones, Macs, iPads and more in the links in the description.

Samsung might give Galaxy S20 FE a new lease of life with chip upgrade

Let’s move on to Samsung as, the company is making an interesting move with the Galaxy S20 FE. We know that Sammy found success with this phone thanks to the decent specs and the price tag and they want to add to that. According to a new report from WinFuture, Samsung might start equipping the S20 FE with the 4G version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC, swapping out the Exynos 990 that originally powered it, cause I guess they heard there isn’t much love for that chip, period. The report even mentions the new model number and actually, Samsung has already updated some of their European websites with this model number, hinting that the launch will happen some time soon. The rest of the specifications will remain the same as the Exynos S20 FE but they might add a SKU with more storage for around 600 Euros. We’ll keep you posted on when they make the changes and, while Samsung is doing this for an older phone, wait for the a few segments because Google is doing the complete opposite, and guys it doesn’t look good.

iPhone 13 Mini prototype shown in alleged hands-on image, but we have doubts

Moving the spotlight on to Cupertino real quick before we talk about them again for the hottest news, and this time about the iPhone 13 mini. You’d think that the report on low sales would kill a future generation, but we know Apple is famous for liking to play the long game. So yeah, those other reports of Apple stopping production of the 12 mini aren’t going anywhere with that new purple color that just launched, and now these rumors. This picture comes from a tipster on Weibo, showing off that design that was leaked in CAD renders last week in the Blue color variant where the 2 cameras now sit across from each other inside the stove. Of course at the moment these are still prototypes and Apple could simply just choose to not go on with this design but, a ton of tipsters have been talking about this design and these prototypes just give it a bit of more credibility. We’ll see what we get as, it definitely doesn’t look bad but again, it depends on who you ask.

Android 12 code hints that Pixel 5a 5G will use the same chip as its predecessor

Now, let’s talk about Google and the Pixel 5a on an.. Interesting turn of events. Let me just start by saying I’m struggling to call this a 5a any more. So, a couple of weeks ago we found out that the Pixel 5a will be coming some time during the Fall and it will only be available in the US and Japan. Well, now we have a new report from 9to5Google that claims that Barbet aka the Pixel 5a will be using a processor identified by the number “SM7250” which is a reference to the Snapdragon 765G. And I mean there’s nothing wrong with the 765G but, it’s also the processor that powered the show for the Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5, and if the phone will look exactly like last year’s phone, I mean, wouldn’t this technically be the same 4a 5G? Like, I’m curious to see how Google plans to differentiate these phones. Why even bother to announce anything if that precise phone can currently be purchased in the market. Gotta hand it to Google for the weird decisions all the time.

Story of the day:

Apple readying big changes for notifications in iOS 15, Home Screen overhaul for iPads

But Finally, for the hottest news today let’s talk about Apple, WWDC, and iOS. If you didn’t watch our video on the Spring Loaded Event I highly recommend you do as I went into detail on how these new iPads don’t really make sense right now, unless of course, WWDC changes things dramatically, and that’s what the news is about. According to a new report from Bloomberg, Cupertino is planning to overhaul notifications for iOS 15 and they are also preparing a major overhaul for the iPad’s Home Screen with iPadOS 15. Starting with iOS 15 apparently they want to let you customize notifications depending on your situation, with modes like sleep, driving or working, and you will choose if you want an audible alert or not. Apparently this would work through a menu in the control center, letting you create your scenarios. But fine, for the major news, let’s move on to iPadOS. Bloomberg claims that this will be the biggest overhaul to the Home Screen in over a decade. Apparently Apple will finally add widgets to the Home Screen which was just ridiculous before, letting you replace the entire grid with your widgets of choice. Finally, the report also mentions some big changes for iMessage, for it to compete with WhatsApp by adding some sort of social media aspect to it. You know what the problem is? No word on supporting Pro apps, AKA, what the Mac has, which technically should happen. So far a home screen overhaul seems boring and overdue.

Xiaomi and OPPO are reportedly working on their own 5G chips

Now let’s talk about roadmaps and SoCs as it seems that Apple’s success story with Apple Silicone is something other companies want to replicate. Last week we had a report of Google working on their own SoC and now, it looks like Xiaomi and OPPO want to do the same. According to a new DigiTimes report, Chinese smartphone makers like Xiaomi and OPPO are working on launching their own 5G processors between late 2021 and early 2022. In case you didn’t know, the world is currently going through a chip shortage, which we’ll talk about later, causing products to be delayed so, we don’t exactly know how well this is going to work out for Xiaomi and OPPO. Sadly, all we know at the moment is that these chips would be sub-6GHz 5G compatible. So, we’ll see if they actually manage to launch these later this year due to the shortage going on. I honestly even wonder how all that is going to fair with Qualcomm partnerships, etc. We’ll keep you posted.

Fake AirPods 3 selling out there even before Apple could launch the real thing

Probably, for the most hilarious news today let’s move the spotlight on to Apple and the upcoming AirPods as, it looks like someone said: If Apple won’t release these, I will! According to a Ming Chi Kuo report from March 14th, AirPods 3 are supposed to start mass production until Q3 of 2021 but, the reason we’re covering this is before you’re fooled by a new development. There’s some counterfeit AirPods 3 already on the market that have been shown on TikTok and Twitter, and they look exactly like those leaked images we got a couple of months ago. We know that Cupertino has an entire team based on taking down counterfeit products but, this is kinda funny considering that these aren’t even out yet and they just went on with the leaked design. It also kinda shows us how crazy the leaks have been this past year so yeah, Apple.. When’s that event coming? Cause clearly people are getting impatient.

iPhone 13 Pro will be 15-20% more battery efficient despite 120Hz panel: Report

Let’s keep talking Apple but on a more serious note this time, and about the iPhone 13’s display. A ton of leaks have evolved around these LTPO panels we’re expecting and today we have some more details on how these will happen. According to another report from DigiTimes, Apple’s suppliers for these displays will be Samsung and LG Display, with the transition from LTPS to LTPO being most likely completed in the first half of 2021. However, even with the transition ending early, their capacity might be lower than usual due to the added complexity so Apple might turn to BOE to handle the rest of these displays. And I know, BOE has failed multiple quality tests for Apple but, they are reportedly testing LTPO displays at an “Apple-Dedicated” section at one of their factories. So yes, we’re expecting these LTPO displays on both of the iPhone 13 Pro models, running Pro Motion 120Hz refresh rate. And by the way, this also allows for 15-20% less power consumption thanks to the A15 so, better display and better battery life so far sounds like a Win-win.

Story of the day:

Google Pixel 5a is the latest casualty of the global chip shortage

And finally, for the hottest news today let’s talk Google and the frenzy of Pixel leaks that has happened today, so bear with me here. Let’s start with that chip shortage we were talking about earlier on the show. According to a tweet from Jon Prosser this morning, the Google Pixel 5a has been cancelled due to chip shortage. And, the Pixel 4a and 4a 5G will continue to be sold through the rest of this year. This report was confirmed by Android Central when they spoke to one of their sources that claimed that Google Engineers would continue to focus on the Pixel 4a 5G for software testing for the future. Which made sense it’s pretty much the same expected hardware for the 5a. However, there was ANOTHER report from 9to5Google, citing a Google spokesperson that claims that the Pixel 5a 5G is not cancelled. And it will be available later this year in Japan and the US and will be announced in line when the last A-Series was introduced last year so, around October. So bottom line, the Pixel 5a won’t be coming at Google I/O and will only be available in the US and Japan. Oh and that Pixel Watch will reportedly come in October as well, with a pretty nice design according to Prosser.. But then what are we getting at Google I/O?

Google Pixel 5a will launch after all, but in limited markets

Earlier today, we reported that Google has shelved the Pixel 5a. As per a rumor, the company axed its plans to launch the next Pixel a-series phone due to the ongoing global chip crisis. However, Google has come forward and stated that the Pixel 5a is in the works and it will launch. However, the company mentioned that it will launch in just two markets.

Pixel 5a 5G is not canceled. It will be available later this year in the U.S. and Japan and announced in line with when last year’s a-series phone was introduced.” — A Google spokesperson

As per the above statement, it is confirmed that Google is indeed working on the Pixel 5a, but it looks like the phone will not go on sale worldwide. The company has said that its upcoming Pixel a-series phone will be limited to the US and Japan. Hence, confirming the limited availability of the device. Further, Google adds that it will launch the Pixel 5a in the same time frame as the Pixel 4a, which was launched in August.

Overall, it seems like Google is affected by the chip supply shortage. Hence, the device is not making its way to markets other than the US or Japan.

google pixel 5a onleaks voice

According to past rumors, the Pixel 5a will feature a 6.2-inch OLED display with an FHD+ resolution. However, it is unclear if it will have support for a high refresh rate or stick to the traditional 60Hz panel. As per leaked renders, it will come equipped with a punch-hole cutout at the upper left corner. It is likely to sport a dual rear camera setup with a 12MP primary camera sitting alongside a 16MP ultrawide snapper. Moreover, the Google Pixel 5a is said to retain the 3.5mm headphone jack and come with stereo speakers.

Google Pixel 5a is the latest casualty of the global chip shortage

The tech world is going through a crisis in terms of supply. There is shortage of supply, and the demand is high. This has led to delays in several products and cancelation of many of them. The worldwide chip shortage has put the automobile as well as consumer electronics industry under severe stress. The latest product to be affected by the supply issues is the Google Pixel 5a.

No Pixel 'a' this year

Tipster Jon Prosser took to Twitter to post about the latest update regarding the potential Google Pixel 5a. As per the tipster, the device has been canceled due to worldwide chip shortage. Hence, the development of Pixel 5a isn’t moving forward. Moreover, he goes on to say that Google will continue selling the Pxel 4A and 4A 5G throughout the year.

It was recently reported that Google would be using its in-house chip for the upcoming Pixel 5a that was recently leaked in all its glory. However, we could now see the execution of in-house silicon from Google on its Pixel 6.

Galaxy Note 21 was reportedly canceled due to the same reason

That said, the Pixel 5a is not the first device to be affected or have gotten canceled altogether due to the supply issues. Samsung is reportedly skipping its Galaxy Note21 due to the same reason. The South Korean tech giant has already confirmed that it has no plans of launching a Galaxy Note series smartphone this year. It was reported that this could be because of the “serious imbalance” in the supply and demand for semiconductors.

On the other hand, the another manufacturer to be hit by supply shortage is Apple. While the iPhone haven’t yet been affected, the the production of some MacBooks and iPads  has been delayed. Apple is now pushing back a part of its component orders for both products from the first half of this year to the second half.

Samsung Galaxy S21 series, OnePlus devices and more are on sale today

Several iPad models and more Android devices are on sale right now

The official news today begin with deals but, you already knew that. You can also get the S21 Ultra for 499, with those same 100 dollars in credit. Now, back to Amazon, Cupertino’s 10.2-inch iPad is 30 dollars off its original price leaving it at 299. Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 leak tips AMD and Intel CPUs with April launch window

Oh boy we have a ton of leaks today for you guys so, let’s start with Microsoft as it looks like they’re planning to update the Surface Laptop line up.. Like finally. We have a new report from WinFuture that claims that the Surface Laptop 4 will come in both Intel and AMD flavors, also finally. The design language will apparently remain the same with a “sleek metallic build in a variety of colors to choose from”. When it comes to the internals, you can choose between Intel’s 11th Gen or AMD 4000 CPUs which are actually from last generation.. The AMD variants will come with 16GB of RAM and 512GB of onboard storage. When it comes to Intel you can actually go up to 32GB of RAM and 1TB of SSD. According to the report, the Intel model should get you Iris Plus 950 integrated Graphics, while AMDs will of course ship with Radeon Vega graphics. Finally, the Surface Laptop 4 will reportedly come in 13.5 and 15 inch sizes, with a Surface Connect port, a single USB-C and a single USB-A port. Sadly, we don’t have any information on price tags but, we could expect these some time in April.

Google Pixel 5a is reportedly launching on June 11

Alright, let’s move the spotlight on to Pixels which are finally starting to get some traction. Last week we covered a new report from Jon Prosser where he said we should expect new Pixel Buds in mid-April and a new phone on June 11th but, he didn’t specify the phone. Well, earlier this morning he updated that report saying that his source has confirmed that the Pixel we’re getting this June is the 5a. On that video we speculated how it was most likely the 5a as, it recently got leaked by OnLeaks. Going by those leaks we should expect a 6.4-inch OLED display at FHD+, 5G, dual cameras at the back with a 12MP primary and a 16MP ultra wide, same punch hole, same fingerprint scanner at the back and the headphone jack is still there. So, again, it looks like Google wants to refresh the Pixel 4a 5G, with a new processor and updated internals, and by the looks of it they’re getting rid of the smaller “a” phone since their flagship is now a smaller phone. So yes, we should be getting more information soon on things like the processor, color variants and more so, stay tuned.

Yes, OnePlus 9 will come with a charger. Alas, that’s a thing we worry about now!

OnePlus 9 Pro concept poses for camera rocking the classic sandstone finish

Speaking of things we should be getting soon, let’s talk about the OnePlus 9 which is pretty much a week away. Yesterday we got the official launch date which is happening on March 23rd as well as a first glance at their Hasselblad partnership. Late last week, Tech Droider posted some pictures of a OnePlus 9 Pro concept which was made based on all of the leaks we’ve got. Probably the hottest thing here is that he claims that the Sandstone finish is coming back to the 9 Pro, yaaaayyy… and on this concept we can see a great amount of detail on the new camera module. This camera module reportedly consists of a 48MP primary, a 50MP, an 8MP and a 2MP, cause someone in that engineering department really loves those macro lenses.. And just that guy. But alright, moving on from the concept and to official details, a fan asked on a OnePlus forum if the 9 Series would come with a charger in the box.. You know because we have to worry about that now… To that, Pete Lau responded not to worry about it, the OnePlus 9 Series does bring one. So yeah, we’ll keep you posted on any other OnePlus 9 updates as we just keep getting closer, and we hope the charger thing is not just a this is the last year thing.

Story of the day:

It will take two more years for iPhones to bring a ‘Persicope’ Telephoto lens

And finally, for the hottest news today, it looks like Ming Chi Kuo is the new king of March Madness, cause he’s taking his report as seriously as we like. On his latest report he details the path for the next 3 iPhones and their camera modules where, he claims that Cupertino will introduce a periscope telephoto lens, but not this year. Actually, maybe not even next year as the report claims the 2023 iPhones. Previous reports from Kuo claimed that we should expect these in 2022 but, it looks like that won’t be the case. Speaking on that “path for the next 3 iPhones” he claims that the 2021 iPhones will feature an upgrade telephoto lens maybe upgrading to a 6-element lens from the current 5. When it comes to 2022 we should also expect further camera improvements that will also focus on the telephoto, upgrading to a 7-element lens system for the iPhone 14. Kuo also claims that Apple will be adopting a new FaceID transmitter for the 2021 iPhones which is made out of plastic materials instead of glass. However, it’s still not clear if this design change will affect user benefits, whether that is how good FaceID is or if it will affect the design but, it does mean that Cupertino is cutting costs down. So yeah, Cupertino will be slightly tweaking their cameras for the next 2 years but, it looks like the next big hardware update will come 2 years from now..

Google Pixel 5a is reportedly launching on June 11

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

Google launched the Pixel 4a not too long ago in August last year, at least going by the usual 12-month product cycle for a phone. But it appears that the company is trying to hasten things a little bit this year with its successor – the Pixel 5a. As per tipster Jon Prosser, the Pixel 5a is going to make its debut on June 11 this year, almost two months ahead of the usual 1-year cycle, as previous rumors speculated an August launch that also aligns with the stable release of Android 12.

The leakster recently mentioned that a new Google phone will break cover on June 11 without revealing a name, and that it will be preceded by the launch of new Pixel Buds that will arrive in April this year. And unsurprisingly – for a Google phone, that is – the Pixel 5a was recently leaked in the form of some high-resolution renders rocking a familiar design and an upgraded dual rear camera setup.

New Pixel Buds are likely coming in April this year

You get a familiar all-black polycarbonate build with a white power button to provide that signature dual-tone aesthetic element. The Pixel 5a will reportedly feature a 6.2-inch OLED display with an FHD+ resolution, and there will be a circular hole-punch cutout in the top-left corner – just like the Pixel 4a. However, we are not sure if Google is going to upgrade the screen refresh rate to 90Hz this time around.

Image: OnLeaks / Voice

Over at the back though, things will be slightly different. We see a dual-camera module similar to the one we got on the Pixel 4a 5G, which means the Pixel 5a will finally add a second camera that will likely use an ultra-wide-angle lens. There is a fingerprint sensor at the back, and the 3.5mm headphone jack has been retained as well. As for the overall footprint, the Pixel 5a is said to be 2.3mm taller, but 0.8mm narrower compared to the Pixel 4a 5G.

Apple’s latest 16-inch MacBook Pro, Microsoft Surface laptops and more are also on sale

The official news today begin with deals, starting with Samsung. The Galaxy S21 Series is currently 200 dollars off on Amazon.. Yes, the new phones that just launched. That means you can get the S21+ for just 799 or the S21 Ultra for 999 dollars. If you’re looking for more Samsung deals and have a device to trade-in, we still have those deals where you can find the S21 Ultra for as low as 400 dollars in the links in the description. Moving on to laptops, the 16 inch MacBook Pro is currently 350 dollars off on Amazon, meaning it starts at 2450 dollars.. But I’d recommend you stick around before you pull that trigger cause we’ve got hot news coming on what’s next. If you’re more of a windows guy, the Razer Blade Stealth 13 is currently 400 dollars off, meaning it starts at just 1300 dollars which is a pretty good deal. Best Buy also has the Surface Laptop 3 for 400 dollars off, leaving it at just 900 dollars. We have more deals on LG TVs, Amazon Fire TV products, other Samsung smartphones and more, in the links in the description.

Huawei Mate X2 goes official with a Galaxy Fold-like inward-folding design

Let’s move on to Huawei as, we’ve been expecting the Mate X2 for quite some time now and it’s finally out, and yes, it looks like a Galaxy Z Fold 2, but this is actually a different story. It features a new inward folding design with an 8 inch main OLED Display running at 90Hz refresh rate. On the cover, you’re getting a 6.45 inch display running at 90Hz as well. This phone is powered by the Kirin 9000 SoC along with 8GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage. When it comes to the camera, you get a 50MP main sensor, a 16MP Ultra Wide, a 12MP Telephoto with 3x Optical Zoom, along with an 8MP “Super Zoom” Camera that supports 10x optical zoom. Of course, you get your typical set of features like Pro Modes, Tracking Shots, High-Res and more. On this phone you’re also getting a 4500 mAh and 55W fast charging and yes, it is sadly exclusive for China and it doesn’t have Google Services. Thing is, the other reason why it’s different is because if you do the math, this phone costs a crazy $2775.. Yeah, high-end MacBook Pro territory, and I’m trying to figure out why.

AirPods 3 leaked images allegedly show off an in-ear design akin to the AirPods Pro

Let’s talk about Cupertino and their upcoming March Event as we get closer. Last week we covered how we could be getting new iPad Pros, AirTags, maybe an iPad mini and maybe some new AirPods. Over the weekend Jon Prosser made a video on the products his sources have told him we’re getting and that includes, iPad Pros, AirTags and a Magic Keyboard for that iPad Pro. However, he didn’t rule out the fact that we could get more things, he just wasn’t aware at the time. Well, going back to those AirPods, we have some new leaked schematics, showing off the new design. As the previous leaks claimed, these are taking design cues from the current AirPods Pro which is very welcomed if you ask me. They bring the black pressure sensitive touch input area, and the pressure relief vents at the top as well. They are also expected to support Spatial Audio but, Active Noise Cancellation and Transparency Mode won’t be making the cut to separate them more from the Pros. Apparently the price tag will be $150 and this leak also claims that they will debut in March so we’ll see if we get them at the event.

MacBook Pro with SD card slot, HDMI port to launch in H2 of 2021

Sticking to Apple for another segment let’s talk MacBook Pro and I actually had to read this report twice because it sounds too good to be true. See MacBooks Pros have historically been criticized for repeatedly killing ports that Pros *actually* use, but just like we’ve seen with the iPhone, seriously it’s as if Apple finally listens. According to a new report from non-other than Ming Chi Kuo, Cupertino plans to release 2 new MacBook Pro models that, hear this, come equipped with an HDMI port and an SD Card reader.. A full throwback to the 2012 model, and I really hope I’m reading this right. Kuo mentions that we should expect these two new MacBook Pro models in the second half of 2021 that will have several significant design and specification changes. Of course, the SD Card reader was rumored last month but, this is the first time we’re hearing about this dedicated HDMI port. So, we’re expecting new 14 inch and 16 inch variants of the MacBook Pro, both powered by Apple Silicon. These are also tipped to feature brighter, higher-contrast panels, probably thanks to new mini-LED panels and MagSafe could be making a return to laptops as well which could apparently make them charge faster. We don’t know exactly how much they plan to scale back the USB-C ports but, I feel like 4 USB-C ports along with these new leaked ones are pretty reasonable, and especially at how high Apple prices these computers.

Story of the day:

Google Pixel 5a leak shows a familiar design with an upgraded dual rear camera setup

Yes.. It’s finally time. We’ve had a running joke with Diego about the fact that it’s been way too long since we’ve gotten any Pixel leaks.. And they’re finally here, though I’m not exactly sure how excited we should be. We have some new renders from OnLeaks that apparently belong to the Pixel 5a and in typical Pixel fashion, there’s nothing left to the imagination here. As yes, it brings pretty much the exact same design as the Pixel 4a.. Sort of. According to the leaks, this is a 6.2 inch OLED display at FHD+ resolution but, it is still unclear if Google will stick to 60Hz or make the jump to at least 90Hz refresh rate here. At the back, the little stove is making a return but this time we’re getting a dual camera module, finally. In typical Google fashion we should expect the same hardware we get on the Pixel 5 with a 12MP main sensor and a 16MP ultra wide. From the leaks you can see that we’re getting the same punch hole, same fingerprint scanner at the back and the headphone jack is still here! Apparently we should expect the Pixel 5a to come out some time in August this year, maybe with Android 12 as that’s when we should expect the first stable build. So yeah, it seems we’ll be getting a smaller Pixel 4a 5G in every which way you can think of, unless Google plans to fix things under the hood, and it’s not like if the company is famous for that.
