An untethered Jailbreak reaches iOS 7.1.1 (video)

Even though we’re just a couple of weeks away from Apple’s probable launch of iOS 8 at WWDC 2014, that doesn’t mean that the Jailbreak community hasn’t been hard at work at doing something about iOS 7.1.1. Ever since the launch of Apple’s current mobile operating system, it wasn’t possible for you to Jailbreak it through conventional and easy means. Today we do see some significant progress in the matter, but not necessarily for everyone. Today we’ve seen both photos and videos of iOS 7.1.1 being jailbroken on devices like the iPhone 5c and even ...

Siri security bug lets you bypass your lock screen on iOS 7.1.1

Even though Apple has doubled-down on patching the reported security flaws of iOS 7 with iOS 7.1 and also with version 7.1.1, there always seems to be an extra bug that nobody noticed. The purpose of any lock screen with a passcode is to restrict anybody from accessing your information without your consent, and yet, Apple does give you the option to use Siri in some limited functionality. Sadly it seems that the limited functionality does allow a back door to your information if you play your cards right. In the attached video from renowned Egyptian neurosurgeon and part-time hacker ...

What Apple changed in iOS 7.1.1 to fix Touch ID’s woes

Late last year we looked at reports that the Touch ID fingerprint scanner embedded in the iPhone 5S’s home button wasn’t always performing as well as users expected it to, and specifically its recognition rate appeared to get worse over time. Back in February we heard that Apple was on top of things and planning a software update to help resolve the problem. Then one week ago Apple ...

iOS 7.1.1 reported to improve iPhone battery life, but to all iPhones?

Apple has never been famous for making battery life a priority on its iPhone line-up. Almost every publication praises Apple for how well the iPad line-up and even its Mac line-up performs in that department, but sadly we can’t all say the same about the iPhone. iOS 7 proved to be tough on the iPhone’s battery, and even though some of this was fixed with iOS 7.1, it seems Apple did some additional optimizations. Reports in some publications have found dramatic improvements in how the battery performs on the iPhone after iOS 7.1.1. The company didn’t publicly mention this ...

Apple preparing iOS 7.1.1 to deal with some bugs before iOS 8

Even though the trend of “dot-one” updates from companies like Microsoft and Google has been noticeably significant lately, Apple’s way of handling these is always a mixed bag. We have seen cases where these updates are significant, but the launch of iOS 7.1 proved to be more a bug-fix update than a feature-packed one. We’ve heard rumors of Apple preparing itself for the launch of iOS 8 in June, but new rumors reveal ...
