iOS 9 update slow to get out, fast to adopt

The general attitude towards software updates has been perceived as a negative one. The reality is that if the contents of that update feature significant changes and improvements, users will probably jump on the ball to do an OTA pull. It was the case with iOS 7. Not so much with iOS 8 and the 8.0.1 debacle didn’t really help the case. This ...

Apple users not flocking to iOS 8 as fast as previous releases

Apple’s iOS 8 has been out for a day now. And understandably, plenty of iOS users are flocking to update their hardware to this very latest version of Apple’s mobile operating system. But not everyone’s quite so keen to be an early adopter, and traffic stats from a number of trackers are revealing a pattern, showing far slower iOS 8 adoption than we saw last year with the release of iOS 7.Obviously, a lot of factors are going to affect the timetable by which an Apple user upgrades to a ...

Apple approves a $1000 app that lets the iPhone 5s shoot 4K video, sort of

Every now and then, a crazy application or device comes along that makes you wonder what the people in charge were thinking. Surely some of us said this about products like the Samsung Galaxy Note, and look how that story ended up, but there are also cases of products that simply don’t make sense. We’ve seen a couple of applications here and there dare the odds of logic, but there’s a new one that just took ...

Apple releases iOS 7.1.2 update with collection of bugfixes

We’re a little over two months removed from the release of iOS 7.1.1, and a lot’s happened since then. The attention of devs and users alike may be soundly focused on iOS 8 by this point, but in the days leading up to WWDC 2014, we picked up on the rumor that a new 7.1.2 update was imminent. It may have taken a little longer than we expected to get here, but today finally brings word that 7.1.2 is arriving ...

iOS 6 users on iOS 7-compatible devices must upgrade to use FaceTime

Even though many of us complained harshly at how Apple slept in its laurels with iOS 6 and all its previous variations during more than seven years, you’d be amazed at how many people still prefer it. Surely Apple has boasted how fast people have adopted iOS 7 in recent months, but that doesn’t mean this is what everyone wants. iOS 7 has been met by some polarizing acceptance, and some of us even feel that it’s the sloppiest version of iOS yet, but it seems that if you decided to stay away from it, Apple wants you using it whether you like it or not. Apple has recently ...

Your move, Apple: taking a risk on the iPhone 6

Smartphone manufacturers have turned it up to 11 this year. For many, it’s do or die. Take HTC for example. Its sales, revenues, market share, and mind share have all been consistently dwindling over the last several years. Even while the company has remained relevant and maintained its habit of creating spectacular, beautiful, competitive devices, its stance in the market, particularly in comparison to Samsung and Apple, is paltry. And despite bringing home handfuls of awards with the One ...

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact vs Apple iPhone 5c (Video)

Neither is what you’d call a “budget phone” – in fact each goes out of its way to avoid being painted with that particular brush. But they’re both devices that cater to a customer looking for something just shy of full flagship status. If you think you might be that customer, strap yourself in because we’re about to compare them. These smartphones aren’t necessarily new to us. We

iOS bug lets attackers disable Find My iPhone

With last year’s launch of the Android Device Manager, Google took some important steps to bring new security features to its platform, helping users both locate missing hardware, as well as protect the data on that hardware from falling into the wrong hands. For Apple fans, though, this was all old hat, as iOS has offered its own Find My iPhone (or iPad, or Mac) service for years now. Being around for as long ...

Swiftkey launched for iOS, but as a Notes application

Swifkey is probably one of the best inventions to ever reach the Android ecosystem. It’s not only one of the smartest and better looking keyboards in the Play Store, but for those of us that live abroad, it makes it extremely easy to handle multi-lingual typing over the same UI, with no need for a language-switch button. We all heard the rumors of the service reaching iOS to some extent, and that’s now a reality. Say hello to Swiftkey Note, the company’s new app for iOS. Sadly, as opposed to Android where you get a full keyboard replacement, Swiftkey is a just a Notes ...

The iPhone is back on Megafon, Russia’s second largest carrier

After a four-year break, the iPhone is back on Megafon, Russia’s second largest carrier, according to a recent Reuters report. The carrier announced that it has managed to sign a direct contract with Apple for supplying its smartphone, after failing throughout the years to guarantee volumes required by the manufacturer, according to unnamed sources. The deal between the two companies is a three-year agreement under which the carrier will buy various iPhone models from Apple, following Vimpelcom’s example that signed a similar contract at the end of last year for the iPhone 5s ...
