iPhone 11 lineup gets a trade-in value boost

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

Apple has adjusted the trade-in values of several of its products including the iPhones, MacBook Air, iPad Pro, and more. The trade-in value change comes after updated prices in December. Moreover, Apple has not only decreased some values but is offering more if you exchange an iPhone 11 series device. Notably, the values shown on Apple’s website reflect the maximum possible trade-in value for a product. This means you are not guaranteed to get this much while exchanging your old device but you can get up to the said amount.

Starting with the iPhone 11, the device has received a $20 value bump. You can now receive a maximum of $380 on exchanging your old iPhone 11. Further, the trade-in value for the iPhone 11 Pro is up by $5 to $465, and the Pro Max can get you up to $515, which is $15 more than before. Moreover, the old iPhone 6s Plus can now get you $65 as compared to $60.

Apart from the iPhones, Apple has also updated its trade-in value for the iPad lineup. The iPad Pro will now get you $580, which is $45 more than before. By contrast, the trade-in value for the standard iPad has gone down by $15 to $235. The MacBook Air has also received a value revision. You will now get $70 less than before for your MacBook Air, which is down to $530 from $600. As for the discontinued MacBook, it can give you up to $340, which is $40 less than before.

More Mac family members have received a trade-in value revision. The iMac has received a value reduction of $130, which brings it down to $1,050. On the other hand, the Mac mini is down by $60 to $770.

For the unaware, Apple allows customers to trade-in older devices, and receive a certain amount of value for them. This can be used towards a purchase of a new device. The company measures the exact trade-in value of a device by its condition, manufacturer, and when it was released.

Best iPhone 11 Pro Cases and Covers in 2020

It may feel weird to cover your brand new iPhone 11 Pro with a case, especially as that smooth frosted finish over the beautiful glass is made to flaunt. Trust me though, accidents happen unannounced, and the outcome is ugly as well as expensive. This comes from someone who once abhorred the idea of using a protective case for his smartphone, but after cracking the screen of multiple phones (the list includes a couple of flagships too) over the years, I’ve come to realize their importance.

Chances are you’re on this page and reading this because you’ve arrived at the same conclusion too, either from experience or by heeding someone’s advice. Whatever the case, we’ve cherrypicked a selection of the best iPhone 11 Pro cases that you’ll surely find useful. The list includes a wide diversity of cases, from the minimalist and ultra-rugged ones to those with a luxurious leather finish or a built-in battery case.

Here’s our pick for the Best cases for the Apple iPhone 11 Pro:

    Spigen Ultra Hybrid

    Strong and stylish

It has a TPU bumper to absorb accidental falls, raised bezels to protect the camera and screen, while the transparent body lets you flaunt that Apple logo.
    Adidas

    For the Adidas stans

This one sports a beautiful suede finish and stitched leather stripes for that extra dash of class. And oh, the classic Adidas Originals logo in gold trim too.
    Lucrin Leather Case

    Classy, yet functional

Avoiding a thick case wrapped around your phone, but still want to protect it from coins and keychains in your pocket? This luxurious leather sleeve is for you.
    Razer Arctech Pro

    For the gamer in you

Shock-absorbent edges, wireless charging compatibility, and a thermally conductive lining adjacent to vented airflow channels for keeping things cool.
    PEEL Ultra Thin Case

    Minimalism personified

At just 0.5mm thin, you will not even feel it is there. It wraps around like skin and has no branding either, which means it is just the right case for minimalists.

Made out of full-grain leather, this one also has a stitched card holder pocket, offers wireless charging compatibility, and will age beautifully over time.
    ArmadilloTek Vanguard

You get a military-grade build, a kickstand at the back, and even a built-in screen protector for all-round safety, without missing out on wireless charging support.
    Spigen Liquid Air Armor

    The stealthy one

This is slim, lightweight, and has a matte finish with a beautiful pattern engraved at the back. Plus, the rounded edges also offer shock protection.
    PunkCase PunkJuice Battery Case

    Battery juice on the go

It has a military-grade build with an aluminum alloy frame for protection, comes with a lifetime warranty, also packs a 5,000mAh battery to charge your phone.
    Totallee Thin Case

    The skinny bloke

The Totallee Thin case, as the name makes it abundantly clear, is one of the thinnest iPhone 11 Pro cases out there. This featherlight case is just 0.02 inches thick, and is claimed to be effective against scratches and minor drops. Plus, you can choose from a wide range of colors.
    ESR Air Armor Clear Case

    Clearly protective

What if a clear case has caught your attention, but you are not too sure about the durability aspect? If that is the case, the ESR Air Armor case is the best option. This yellowing-resistant case has shock-absorbing Air-Guard corners to brush off accidental drops and bumps.
    OtterBox COMMUTER SERIES Case

    Stylish shielding

If you are on the lookout for a protective case that also lets you make a bold style statement, the Otterbox Commuter series case is a great option. The dual layer design can handle accidental drops, but the eye-catching design and the exciting color options are the real winners here.
    Apple Leather Case

    Leather luxury

The in-house leather case by Apple is fairly popular, partly due to its slim form factor and the great material quality that develops a natural patina over extended usage. You can choose between a wide range of colors that suit your taste, and it won’t impede wireless charging either.
    Spigen Liquid Crystal

    Crystal clear

One of the thinnest and most popular minimalist cases, Spigen Liquid Crystal Case is made out of fairly durable flexible TPU that protects your phone and also lets you flaunt the iPhone 11 Pro in all its glory. It features raised edges for added protection and also allows wireless changing.
    Torras Translucent

    Stylish and sturdy

This translucent hard case for the iPhone 11 Pro is quite thin, but is claimed to offer military-grade protection against drops from a height of up to 6 feet. The rear panel has an anti-fingerprints and anti-scratch matte coating, and it fits like a glove on the Apple offering.
    Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro

    Built like a tank

Looking for a case that prioritises protection above anything else, and does not look half bad either? The Supcase Unicorn Beetle Pro is where you should spend your money. This military grade case also has a built-in screen protector, a kickstand, and supports wireless charging too.
    Speck Presidio Pro

    Stealthy resilience

Not every extra-durable case has to look like a tank, and the Speck Presidio Pro case embodies that perfectly. Flaunting a sleek design, this case has been drop-tested from a height of up 13 feet, has a soft-touch surface finish, has an antimicrobial coating and allows wireless charging.
    Incipio DualPro Dual Layer Case

    The shock absorber

The Incipio DualPro case for the iPhone 12 Pro features two layers of interlocking protections. The inner lining uses a patented Flex20 soft TPU interior shell for superior shock absorption, while the Air Cushion technology to handle accidental falls from a height of up to 10 feet.

I hope you’ve already made your choice by now, but if you need a few extra words of personal advice, we’re here to help. If you are looking for a case that is durable, also happens to look stylish, and can keep your phone cool during your lengthy PUBG Mobile sessions with friends, the Razer Arctech Pro is a perfect choice.

In case (no pun intended) you’re seeking something minimalist yet durable enough to keep scratch scars and scuffs at bay, you can’t go wrong with the PEEL Ultra Thin Case. At just 0.5mm thin, you won’t even feel it is there. Plus, it doesn’t have any distracting brand logo either, and it also happens to be our personal recommendation

However, if durability is the only thing in your mind, and you don’t mind adding some extra bulk in your pockets, the ArmadilloTek Vanguard will serve you best by protecting your phone for many years to come. Lastly, if you want something premium and luxurious, try the Mujjo Leather Wallet Case. I don’t need to explain why people love the finish of leather here, but with the Mujjo offering, you also get the versatility of carrying a few cards in the dedicated pocket.

iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone 11 Pro

The iPhone 12 Pro is a notable upgrade in ways more than one. A faster processor, next-gen cellular connectivity support, improved photography prowess, and of course, a cool new design. However, the need to jump the upgrade wagon comes into question when you already have a predecessor that is still one of the best devices out there. We’re talking about the iPhone 11 Pro here. How about a detailed iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone 11 Pro face-off then?

If you already own an iPhone 11 Pro and are wondering whether the iPhone 12 Pro is worth making the switch, we’re here to answer. Dive right into this comparison to see how the two phones differ based on on-paper data and if the upgrades are worth your thousand dollars (or more) for Apple’s shiny new device:

Design Matters!

iPhone 12 Pro with purple background
iPhone 12 Pro comes in a new graphite shade that looks pretty slick

Let’s start with the design first. The iPhone 12 Pro rocks a fresh design that adopts flat sides compared to the iPhone 11 Pro’s rounded curves. Now, it would boil down to your personal preference whether you like the curved edges that don’t dig into your palms, or if the shiny flat sides of the iPhone 12 Pro simply are an irresistible aesthetic touch for you.

Do keep in mind that the iPhone 12 Pro’s flat sides are not uncomfortable by any means. To get a better idea about how the iPhone 12 Pro feels in your hands, watch the first impression video by Pocketnow’s Jaime Rivera below to get a clear idea:

Both the phones use surgical grade stainless steel for the sides and glass on the rear panel. Also, the contrasting glossy and matte finish for the rear panel and camera isle is a common trait between the iPhone 11 Pro and its successor. But there is another small difference between the two devices. The front glass on the iPhone 11 Pro is slightly curved alongside the edges, while the front panel on the iPhone 12 Pro is totally flat.

Now, coming to the color options, the iPhone 12 Pro is up for grabs in Silver, Graphite, Gold, and a new Pacific Blue color that simply looks stunning. As for the iPhone 11 Pro, it is available in Gold, Space Gray, Silver, Midnight Green.

Internal Upgrades

Now, let’s talk about the innards. The iPhone 12 Pro draws power from the new A14 Bionic chip that is based on the 5nm process and has a 16-core Neural Engine that is claimed to offer an 80% performance boost. As for the main processor itself, it is said to offer almost a 50% higher CPU and GPU output compared to the fastest non-Apple mobile SoC out there. To put it simply, the A14 Bionic is crazy fast and has enough firepower to handle anything you throw at it, at least for the next couple of years.

As for the iPhone 11 Pro, it is powered by the A13 Bionic, which is still powerful enough to give the fastest Qualcomm chips a run for their money. So, if you are eyeing the iPhone 12 Pro primarily for that extra dash of processing power, you should save a few hundred benjamins and stick to the iPhone 11 Pro for at least another year.

iPhone 12 Pro on wooden table
iPhone 12 Pro introduces the new MagSafe wireless charging system

We don’t know the amount of RAM Apple has fitted inside the iPhone 12 Pro (or if it is more than the iPhone 11 Pro), but with a steady update cycle and system optimizations, you can rest assured that your iPhone 11 Pro won’t run into performance or multi-tasking bottlenecks anytime soon. However, if you need more onboard storage than what your daily driver iPhone 11 Pro has to offer, then the upgrade to a more GB-heavy iPhone 12 Pro model is justified.

Interestingly, the battery has not received any major upgrade this year. The streamed video playback duration on the iPhone 12 Pro stands at 11 hours, which is identical to what you get on the iPhone 11 Pro as well. Audio playback longevity on a single charge also remains the same at 65 hours. However, if you’re playing a local file, the iPhone 12 Pro will only last you an hour longer than the iPhone 11 Pro.

iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone 11 Pro side by side comparison
The flat sides of iPhone 12 Pro (right) against the curved frame of the iPhone 11 Pro (left)

But there is one big difference this year. Apple has fitted a magnetic ring just below the iPhone 12 Pro’s rear panel, and it is a part of the MagSafe charging system. Thanks to it, the tiny new MagSafe charging disc can conveniently attach itself to the device. What this means is you can keep using the iPhone 12 Pro while it charges wirelessly, just like you would with a cable plugged into the phone’s Lightning port.

Talking about charging, both phones can be juiced up to 50% in just 30 minutes with a compatible fast charger. In case you’re wondering, the iPhone 12 Pro and its predecessor, both support wireless charging over the Qi standard. Also, both the phones support dual-SIM connectivity.

Talking about connectivity, the iPhone 12 Pro takes a leap forward with support for 5G, while the iPhone 11 Pro is limited to 4G. If you really, really want those blazing fast download speeds, make sure that the area you live in, or work, offers good 5G reception. Otherwise, you would just end up paying the proverbial ‘5G tax’ like many others who live in regions where the state of 5G rollout is abysmal.

Camera Enhancements

iPhone 11 Pro cameras and LiDAR sensor
The iPhone 12 Pro adds a LiDAR sensor to the triple rear camera setup

The iPhone 12 Pro is a big leap when it comes to imaging capabilities. Yes, it has three cameras just like the iPhone 11 Pro, but it also adds a LiDAR sensor. The LiDAR sensor, aside from opening the doors for new AR applications, also assists at quicker focus lock and enables features such as Night Mode portrait shots. Let’s have a look at the camera hardware first and few areas where the iPhone 12 Pro takes a lead:

Both the iPhone 11 Pro and its successor feature a triple 12MP camera hardware. But there are a few differences here. The iPhone 12 Pro’s main camera has a wider f/1.6 aperture that is claimed to bring in 27% more light, which essentially means brighter and more detailed photos. Another difference is that the wide camera on iPhone 12 Pro uses a 7-element lens system, while the one on its predecessor has a 6-element lens setup.

But hardware is just half the story. The iPhone 12 Pro introduces a host of new camera capabilities. The first one is the ability to capture night time portraits, a feature that has been brought to life by taking advantage of the LiDAR. Talking about low-light photography, the iPhone 12 Pro also adds support for capturing Night mode Time-Lapse videos.

iPhone 11 also has a triple camera setup, but it has a less powerful wide camera compared to iPhone 12 Pro.

Notably, the front camera has also gained support for Night Mode, which means you can now capture brighter and crisper selfies. Apple has also upgraded the HDR performance, introducing the improved Smart HDR 3 technology with the iPhone 12 series.

Coming to video capture, both the phones can capture up to 4K 60fps using the front as well as rear cameras. But there are a few areas where the iPhone 12 Pro again takes a lead. The most important one is the iPhone 12 Pro’s ability to capture DolbyVision HDR videos at up to 60fps using the rear camera, and up to 30fps Dolby Vision HDR videos with the 12MP front camera

Another iPhone 12 Pro feature that serious photographers as well as enthusiasts will enjoy is the new ProRAW mode. Apple says the ProRAW combines the benefits of RAW capture with its computational photography and multi-frame image processing to offer more creative control. And all that editing can be done natively on the iPhone 12 Pro.

To put it simply, camera capabilities are the iPhone 12 Pro’s main selling points, and it should be your main reason for upgrading from an iPhone 11 Pro. If you’ve been holding on to your two or three generations old iPhone and waiting for a legitimate successor that can justify the price premium, the iPhone 12 Pro is definitely worth serious consideration. But if you own an iPhone 11 Pro, you might want to keep it for another year and wait for Apple’s 2021 iPhone lineup.

Oh hey, don’t forget to check out Pocketnow’s iPhone 12 review and watch the video below:

Customers are reporting a bug in their iPhone 11’s display

It seems that the green tint isn’t a Samsung problem only. Some Apple users are starting to report a green tint on the displays in their iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro devices. It apparently appears randomly after unlocking their devices.

The guys over at MacRumors have spotted several reports at Reddit, of Apple customers that mention a green tint on the iPhone 11 models. In most cases, the displays turn green after unlocking their devices or when Dark Mode and Night Shift are activated. It is believed that this is a software issue since it started to show up after the iOS 13.5 update.

The green tint disappears after a while, but it comes back from time to time. Maybe this bug will go away with a future iOS update, but iPhone 11 users will have to wait, as Apple is currently testing iOS 13.5.5 beta.

Sony postpones PlayStation 5 event on June 4 due to ongoing unrest

Last week we covered how Sony would be hosting an event on June 4th to showcase their newest game titles for the upcoming PS5 but it looks like that won’t be the case. The company just announced that they will be postponing their event as they feel that right now is not a time to celebrate and that more important voices should be heard at the moment. The company hasn’t revealed when the event will happen but, we’ll keep you posted. Bravo Sony. Thank you for taking a stand.

Android 11 leak shows a redesigned power button menu, controls for smart devices

Google delays Android 11 Beta Launch Show event scheduled for June 3

Now, even if Google just postponed their Android 11 Developers Preview Event that was happening on June 3rd, we have some Android 11 leaks. The event was postponed indefinitely due to the protests and the situation in the US but they claim the full Android 11 launch won’t be delayed. These new leaks come from Twitter and they basically show us the Power Button menu where we see 5 controls like Emergency, Power Off, Restart, Screenshot as well as a new Quick Controls menu which shows your smart devices and wallet access. The leak also shows that we will be getting a UI redesign at least in things like these. Google, also thank you for taking a stand.

if your iPhone runs on iOS 13, it could also get the new iOS 14 update

For those of you battling a tough economy, holding on to your device a bit longer is always a welcome relief, and you know Apple does that best. We have a new leak of which devices will be getting iOS 14 this year. We should take this with a grain of salt as this source doesn’t have the greatest track record but, according to them some inside sources claim that all devices running iOS 13 will be able to run iOS 14. This means that if you still have an iPhone 6s or iPod Touch7th gen or later, you’ll be able to get the update. They didn’t provide any information on iPads but we’re hoping it’ll be the same case if this actually happens.

Galaxy Note 20 might be able to pack a battery as big as the Galaxy Note 20+

I think one of the biggest deterrents of the small Galaxy Note 20 was that you weren’t getting a Galaxy Note Quality battery, and it looks like Samsung noticed. Apparently the company doesn’t want to cheap out on the batteries for the Galaxy Note 20 line. It just went through China’s 3C Certification and it shows that the regular Galaxy Note 20 will bring a 4300 mAh battery that’s rated at 4170 mAh. As a reference, last year’s Note 10 brought a 3500 mAh battery while the Note 10+ brought a 4300 mAh battery. According to another leak we got last week, the Note 20+ will bring a 4500 mAh battery so Samsung is closing that gap between the two variants.

Story of the day:

New images of alleged iPhone 12 dummy units suggest some changes

iPhone 12 allegedly begins mass production in 3Q20 with October launch in sight

And finally the hottest news today has to do with iPhones, and the fact that things might not be so bad for the launch timing, nor components. According to a new DigiTimes report, this year’s iPhones won’t get the regular September launch and we’ll have to wait until October, which switches things from the November we had heard. Due to the travel bans Apple hasn’t been able to send enough engineers to China which has delayed the production. DigiTimes also claims that the 6.1in iPhone will start production earlier than the rest. This is the iPhone that will allegedly bring the LG and BOE displays. The report suggests that this may happen to make sure that these panels meet the quality standards as LG display has had issues in the past. The Samsung displays on the other 3 are also easier to manufacture as they eliminate a separate touch layer. We also have some dummies of the iPhone 12 line up from MacOtakara which show the 4 designs but these don’t show the smaller notch that we’re expecting.

if your iPhone runs on iOS 13, it could also get the new iOS 14 update

Every time we get a new software update, we wonder just which devices will get it. Apple has done a great job in updating some of its older iPhone models, even though it had to throttle some processors to preserve the batteries in its devices, something it will eventually have to pay for. Now, a new iOS 14 update is on the horizon, and it seems that it could be available for any iPhone and iPod that currently runs iOS 13.

According to the information posted by The Verifier, you will be able to install iOS 14 in your device if it’s running iOS 13. This information allegedly comes from a trusted source from the system development process, meaning that the iPhone 6s, 6s Plus, 7, 7 Plus, 8, 8 Plus, X, XR, XS Max, XS, 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro Max, SE 2020, and the 7th generation iPod Touch would get the new software. iOS 14 is expected to be presented in the next all-digital WWDC event, which is supposed to take place on June 22. As for iPad OS 14, there is still no information that tells us if this new software will be available for every iPad model that runs iPadOS 13.
