Well, hello there, Key Lime Pie build numbers; spottings for Nexus 4, 7

Google’s been delivering new versions of Android Jelly Bean for a year now, and despite all those rumors of Android 5.0 or the imminent transition over to Key Lime Pie, we’ve seen Android 4.3 arrive as yet another in the Jelly Bean lineage. We may not be any closer to learning precisely when we’ll see the platform make the move to its next alphabetic dessert, but some new signs of that change have recently come to our attention, apparently outing work on bringing Key ...

What Android 4.3 tells us about Key Lime Pie

Android 4.3 wasn’t announced all that long ago, and it’s still making its way across the internet to update phones and tablets over the air. Some of us hoped we’d see some mention of Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie when Android 4.3 was announced, but we didn’t — or did we? On the surface, Android 4.3, “a sweeter flavor of Jelly Bean“, could easily be mistaken for any other version of Jelly Bean. However, a lot has changed under the hood. What’s new? What has ...

Will Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie feature a card-based UI?

When Google released its Google Now app we saw our first look at a card-based UI in an Android app. Touted as being able to show you “the right information at the right time”, this new design for displaying information is elegant. It’s a simple and to-the-point method that standardizes information onto a single “card”, separated from other information. It should come as no surprise. We’ve been using cards for a very long time in our everyday lives. Libraries used to catalog all their books and media offerings on individual cards in something called a ...

Will Google try to steal Apple’s WWDC 2013 thunder with Android 4.3?

Apple is holding its developer conference (WWDC) in approximately two weeks. WWDC is roughly analogous to the Google I/O that concluded a few weeks ago. According to the WWDC website, we will be able to get an in-depth look at what to expect next in both iOS as well as OS X and developers will be shown how to take their apps “to the next level”. It’s really an impressive shindig with over 100 sessions, hands-on labs, events, and even the opportunity to connect with Apple engineers and fellow developers ...

Google I/O Delivers New Key Lime Pie Teasers

Despite our expectations, Google I/O 2013 failed to deliver a new version of Android. As we’ve discussed, that wasn’t so much of a big deal, as we got plenty of improvements to services without needing a whole new Android build, but has left us wondering: just when might Key Lime Pie get here? We’ve seen evidence showing Android 4.3 in testing, and rumors have suggested that it could arrive sometime next month. We wait to learn if that will indeed come to ...

Google’s Lack Of Update For Android At I/O Was Actually Smart, Here’s Why

It’s not common to see Larry Page on stage for a Google event, regardless of how big it is. Usually Eric Schmidt or Sergey Brin have been the ones that have shined the most for their showmanship, and as I watched the Google I/O keynote yesterday, Larry changed that, and he said something that really struck a nerve – “We should be doing what nobody else is doing”. He also said things like “We should work on getting technology out of the way”, and other phrases we’ve heard in the past, but by the late CEO of another company I don’t even need to ...

Last-Minute Android Key Lime Pie Requests

Google I/O 2013 is right around the corner and chances are that we’ll see something Android-related announced at this year’s developers conference — though perhaps not what we’ve become accustomed to from the conferences of yesteryear. Whether or not we will see another flavor of Jelly Bean or Key Lime Pie is still yet to be seen. Regardless, we’re not going to sit idly by. Here are some of our last-minute requests for Android Key Lime Pie (or whatever they’re going to show us at I/O).

Last-Minute Requests for Google I/O

What will be announced at Google I/O 2013? That’s the question of the hour, especially for supporters and enthusiasts of Google’s wildly popular mobile platform. The developer conference is generally where Google unveils its latest groundbreaking products, where we were first introduced to the Nexus Q, Nexus 7, Project Glass and Jelly Bean last year. Skydivers jumped from a plane, BMX riders jumped over building gaps, and one crazed man ran down the side of a building, all to demo Glass to the world, and ...

Android 4.3 Details, HTC One Sales, LG Nexus Again & More – Pocketnow Daily

Watch today’s Pocketnow Daily as we talk about Windows Phone 8 GDR2 and a a possible release date along with some billboards that show us what the Nokia Lumia 928 is all about. Then we move to HTC as the red HTC One shows itself in the UK, along with the fact that HTC has improved in sales this month when compared to last month. Then we go through the BlackBerry R10 being compared the Q10, just to make your choice for either much easier since the R10 is just ugly. Later we go through the leaks of a mysterious LG phone we assume to be the Optimus G2, and then we talk about the reports ...

Android Jelly Bean Came in Two Flavors, Will Key Lime Pie?

Ever since “Cupcake” Google has made a tradition of naming the versions of their mobile operating system after something sweet. When they released the follow-up to Ice Cream Sandwich (Android 4.0) and called it “Jelly Bean” we weren’t’ surprised. When they released a followup to that, however, Google bumped the version by a minor point (4.1 to 4.2), but kept the name the same, referring to it as “another flavor of Jelly Bean”. It was a little odd and broke with tradition regarding their code-naming scheme, but it really wasn’t ...

End of the Road in Sight for HTC One X; Last Update Rumored

HTC’s One X has had a good run. The phone launched at last year’s MWC, and we saw it come to North America right around this time in 2012. Since then, we’ve witnessed the phone make the journey to Jelly Bean, and more recently HTC has been talking about its plans to bring Sense 5.0 – debuting with the HTC One – to the One X in a future update. We recommend taking the time to enjoy that one when it arrives, because if the latest rumor is any ...

Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie Flirts With Delay Rumors

When will Android finally make the leap to version 5.0, presumed by many of us to be called Key Lime Pie? It feels like expectations have been dictating that Google should announce the new build at this year’s Google I/O, but we’ve yet to see any real confirmation. The whole lineup for the event is a bit of a mystery, with rumors about hardware announcements recently shifting from the Motorola X phone to maybe

What the New Google Play Store Redesign Tells Us About the Next Version of Android

“Get ready for a simpler Google Play.” That’s what Google had to say in a blog post about the upcoming version of their Play Store. “The new design focuses on bigger images that jump off the page. Similarly themed content is grouped together so you can hone in on a magazine to read or an app to try. As you move down the page, new recommendations continue to appear so there is always more to see and explore. We’ve also simplified purchasing so you can ...

My Number-One Wish for Android Key Lime Pie

Android Jelly Bean has been with us a while now, and though its adoption rate is still lagging behind -right around 15% of the installed Android base- those of us at the leading edge of tech have gotten used to its array of awesome features. Recently, our own Adam Doud asked just how necessary the next version of Android, Key Lime Pie, really is to the market. You’ll have to hop over to his article to argue your side in the comments, but before you go, let me tell you the one feature Google would have ...
