Motorola Nio revealed in live hands-on images

Motorola was recently rumored to be working on the successor of its Motorola Edge+, and it was tipped to be codenamed Nio. Later,  it was revealed that Nio was a G-series device with high-end specifications, including a flagship chipset. Recently,  a new Motorola device has appeared online with the moniker ‘Motorola Edge S’, and the company also teased its launch. Now, live hands-on images of the device have leaked online.

First spotted and reported by Nils Ahrensmeier(@NilsAhrDE), these images appeared on Weibo a couple of days ago. The device is seen sporting a dual punch-hole screen at the front. On the rear lies a Moto G 5G Plus-like quad-camera setup. Plus, there’s a “64MP camera” and “Audio Zoom” branding below the camera module. As per previous reports, the Motorola Nio could feature an FHD+ (2520 x 1080 pixels) panel that offers a 90Hz refresh rate. The main camera uses the 64MP sensor and is assisted by an 8MP secondary camera that uses Samsung’s S5K4H7 sensor.

Other leaked details include a triple rear camera setup that consists of a 64MP main camera, a 16MP wide-angle shooter and a 2MP depth sensor. Previous reports have also said that the Motorola Nio reportedly carrier the model number XT2125 and will be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC. It is also rumored to have 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. It will run Android 11 out-of-the-box, with the UI being an almost stock Android affair.

As per a Geekbench listing, the device will be powered by last year’s Qualcomm’s flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 865. It is said to be paired with 8GB of RAM. Plus, it will run Android 11. These features go in line with the initial specs leak. The device scored 958 points and 2969 points in single-core and multi-core tests respectively.

Motorola teases the Edge S; launch imminent

Motorola was recently rumored to be working on the successor of its Motorola Edge+, and it was tipped to be codenamed Nio. But it was revealed that Nio was a G-series device with high-end specifications, including a flagship chipset. Later, a new Motorola device has appeared online with the moniker ‘Motorola Edge S’. Now, the company has officially teased its presence hinting at an imminent launch.

Motorola’s Weibo page revealed (via) that its next device will be known as Motorola Edge S. The device is likely to be the successor to the Motorola Edge, which was launched last year. The post doesn’t reveal much but well-known Chinese tipster Digital Chat Station had earlier suggested that the handset will be powered by a yet to release Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series SoC.

Hence, it is being speculated that the Motorola Nio, which was expected to be a Moto G smartphone is actually the Motorola Edge S. It is tipped to feature an FHD+ (1080 x 2520 pixels) display with a dual punch-hole cutout and a 105Hz refresh rate. However, as per a Geekbench listing, the device will be powered by last year’s Qualcomm’s flagship chipset, the Snapdragon 865. It is said to be paired with 8GB of RAM. Plus, it will run Android 11. These features go in line with the initial specs leak. The device scored 958 points and 2969 points in single-core and multi-core tests respectively.

According to the leaked images, it will come equipped with dual punch-hole cutouts to house the selfie shooters. This is not something new though, as we’ve seen this implementation on a few smartphones having two selfie cameras. The main camera uses the 16MP OV16A1Q sensor and is assisted by an 8MP secondary camera that uses Samsung’s S5K4H7 sensor. Other leaked details include a triple rear camera setup that consists of a 64MP main camera, a 16MP wide-angle shooter and a 2MP depth sensor.

Motorola Edge S appears online; tipped to pack unannounced SD 800 SoC

Motorola made a return to the Android flagship arena by launching a no-compromises device called the Motorola Edge+. It was recently rumored to be working on its successor, Motorola Nio. Later, it was revealed that Nio was a G-series device with high-end specifications, including a flagship chipset. Now, a new Motorola device has appeared online. The company could be working on a device named ‘Motorola Edge S’.

Earlier this week, Lenovo China’s General Manager teased the arrival of a new Motorola smartphone. This device is tipped to be powered by a Snapdragon 8xx SoC. While he did not reveal the name of the chipset, the Weibo post exposed the phone’s branding to be Motorola Edge S. Today, a noted tipster from China suggested that this handset will be powered by a yet to release Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series SoC and not Snapdragon 888 or 865.

Just over a week ago, we heard rumors that Motorola is preparing to launch a high-end smartphone codenamed ‘Nio’ that will come armed with a top-of-the-line Qualcomm processor. We also got to know some of its key specifications (alleged) such as a 90Hz display, triple rear cameras, and dual front snappers. Now, we might have our first glimpse of what the smartphone looks like, thanks to a leaked image.

Prolific leakster Evan Blass (via Voice) has shared an image of what he claims to be the Motorola ‘Nio’, a phone that will reportedly debut as a Moto G-series smartphone soon. The device depicted in the leaked image appears to be a prototype unit and has a tall aspect ratio, similar to a few budget devices that the company has launched in the past couple of years. There are two selfie cameras at the top, housed in separate circular punch-hole cutouts.

Motorola will reportedly equip the ‘Nio’ with a FHD+ panel that offers a 90Hz refresh rate. The two camera holes look weird, and it will likely be merged by blacking out the pixels between them to create a uniform pill-shaped outline. This is not something new though, as we’ve seen this implementation on a few smartphones rocking dual selfie cameras from other brands. As per a previous leak, the main 16MP front camera uses the OV16A1Q sensor and it is accompanied by an 8MP secondary snapper that relies on the Samsung S5K4H7 sensor.

Other leaked details include a triple rear camera setup that consists of a 64MP main camera, a 16MP wide-angle shooter and a 2MP depth sensor. The Motorola ‘Nio’ reportedly carrier the model number XT2125 and will come equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC ticking alongside 8GB of RAM and 128 gigs of internal storage space. It will likely run Android 11 out-of-the-box, with the UI being an almost stock Android affair.

Motorola is prepping a high-end phone with Snapdragon 865 codenamed ‘Nio’

Motorola made a return to the Android flagship arena by launching a no-compromises device called the Motorola Edge+. The device was an appealing package with top-of-the-notch specs and a sleek design. However, sub-par cameras, a not-so-competitive asking price, and white-hot competition kept it from really making a dent in the segment. But the company is far from giving up. As per new rumors, the company is preparing to launch a new flagship device codenamed ‘Nio’.

As per information received by TechnikNews, the company is reportedly working on a device powered by the Snapdragon 865 and it will likely arrive next year. It will be among the first wave of new Motorola smartphones that will debut running Android 11. The processor of choice is a bit confusing, as Qualcomm is just over a week away from launching a successor that will likely debut carrying the name Snapdragon 875. As for the device itself, it carries the model number XT2125 and will reportedly debut in Q1 2021.

90Hz display, triple rear cameras and Android 11 on software side

The Snapdragon 865 chip at the heart of Motorola’s new flagship will be paired with 8 gigs of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. Over at the front, there will be a 90Hz display with full-HD+ (2520 x 1080 pixels) resolution, but the size of the panel is not known yet. Also, it is unclear if the company will carry forward the curved screen aesthetics of the Motorola Edge series, or if it will rely on a flat display for the upcoming ‘Nio’ device.

Coming to the imaging department, Motorola will reportedly equip its next high-end smartphone with the 64MP OmniVision OV64B sensor. The wide-angle camera uses the 16MP ov16a10 sensor which is again supplied by OmniVision. There is also a 2MP depth camera that relies on the OV02PB OmniVision sensor. There are two selfie cameras on the front, sitting in what is likely going to be a hole-punch cut-out. The main camera uses the 16MP OV16A1Q sensor, and is assisted by an 8MP secondary camera that uses Samsung’s S5K4H7 sensor.
