Grab the foldable Motorola Razr 5G for $400 off this Black Friday

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

Motorola introduced a clamshell foldable smartphone with nostalgic design and called it the RAZR. The company introduced its successor, the Razr 5G this year for around $1400. While the design mostly remains the same, it is a much more refined smartphone. The Motorola RAZR’s boxy design has been translated to curved glass at the rear, and aircraft-grade aluminum. Now, it is selling for $400 less! You can purchase the Motorola Razr 5G for $1000.

The RAZR 5G features a unique design that actually makes it feel like a clamshell instead of a regular phone with a hinge. It features a 6.2-inch plastic OLED (2,142×876 pixels) with a 21:9 aspect ratio. The crease is something you wouldn’t notice unless you happen to run your hand over it. There is a 2.7-inch secondary display. This not only saves you the effort to flip open the smartphone but also saves battery. The ease of checking notifications while sitting in a cafe with friends that you get here is priceless.

Motorola Razr 5G

The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SoC, paired with Adreno 620 GPU. It comes equipped with 256GB of internal storage with 8GB RAM. In my two-day usage, I didn’t come across any lags. The UI is smooth as ever, and works very well. In the optics department, the Motorola RAZR 5G sports a single rear camera of 48MP with f/1.7 aperture. Camera features include OIS, laser autofocus, and Quad Pixel technology for better low-light sensitivity. It can be used to click selfies as well.

The clamshell foldable packs a 2,800mAh battery with support for 18W TurboPower fast charging. I can safely say that it lasted an entire day for me on normal usage.

Motorola RAZR 5G first impressions: Nostalgia is the future?

Last year, Motorola introduced a clamshell foldable smartphone with nostalgic design and called it the RAZR. The company today launched its successor, the RAZR 5G in India. It is built on the same idea – nostalgia. While the design mostly remains the same, it is a much more refined smartphone. The Motorola RAZR’s boxy design has been translated to curved glass at the rear, and aircraft-grade aluminum.

The RAZR 5G features a unique design that actually makes it feel like a clamshell instead of a regular phone with a hinge. The huge chin comes into question here but in my usage, I found it useful. It makes the video consumption experience better because you get a grip to hold the smartphone. While some may say it’s ugly, I say it is unique. It definitely is a head-turner.

Motorola RAZR 5G

When closed, the Motorola RAZR 5G sits flush. There is almost no gap between the hinges. The company says not even a piece of paper can slide in there. It brings in confidence that the phone’s folding display won’t be affected by regular items like coins and keys in the pocket. Further, in my two-day usage, I didn’t notice the hinge squeaking while opening or closing the phone.

Motorola RAZR 5G first impression

While we are discussing the design, I must mention that the power button is placed up top on the left edge, which makes it difficult for the user to power it on or off. Thankfully, you can flip it close to lock the screen. There is also a fingerprint sensor on the back but the placement is weird. I get it, due to the secondary display it couldn’t be any higher but it isn’t where my finger sits naturally.

One of my favorite features of the Motorola RAZR 5G is its Quick View display. It has gotten more useful with the second-generation folding smartphone. The Peek Display mode that lets you see notifications just by pressing and holding on an icon is still present. You can swipe up to respond to the notifications or swipe down to clear them. The latter worked seven out of ten times for me.

The biggest development comes in the form of software on offer here. You can theoretically run almost any Android app on the secondary display. This is the major differentiator of RAZR from the Galaxy Flip. When the Peek Display is unlocked, you can swipe down to get to the control panel, and swipe up to see something similar to the notification shade. You can also swipe right to see a grid of apps and swipe right again, to see favorite contacts. While not every app is optimized for that small of a display, I was able to open Instagram (in weird aspect ratio) and Twitter to check the notifications, Spotify to play my favorite playlist, and WhatsApp to quickly reply to some texts. The keyboard is squished but you can easily type on it.

You can do almost everything on the 2.7-inch secondary display. This not only saves you the effort to flip open the smartphone but also saves battery. The ease of checking notifications while sitting in a cafe with friends that you get here is priceless.

As for the main display, the Motorola RAZR 5G features a 6.2-inch plastic OLED (2,142×876 pixels) with a 21:9 aspect ratio. The crease is something you wouldn’t notice unless you happen to run your hand over it. However, you’ll be able to notice it when light falls on the display and it is reflected in random directions because of the crease. That said, the main display is very reflective. However, it is easily visible under direct sunlight and can get low enough at night to help you read on Kindle.

Motorola RAZR 5G first impression

The smartphone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G SoC, paired with Adreno 620 GPU. It comes equipped with 256GB of internal storage with 8GB RAM. In my two-day usage, I didn’t come across any lags. The UI is smooth as ever, and works very well. Notably, the speakers aren’t the loudest or clearest I’ve come across on mobile devices. They are average at best.

In the optics department, the Motorola RAZR 5G sports a single rear camera of 48MP with f/1.7 aperture. Camera features include OIS, laser autofocus, and Quad Pixel technology for better low-light sensitivity. It can be used to click selfies as well. However, there is a 20MP selfie shooter at the front on the main display. I was able to click a few pictures, and they came out to be much better than the 2019 RAZR. This isn’t a full-fledged review, and I wasn’t able to push the camera to its full capabilities but I can safely say that it is a big improvement from its predecessor.

The clamshell foldable packs a 2,800mAh battery with support for 18W TurboPower fast charging. While I can’t give a verdict on the performance, I can say that it lasted an entire day for me on normal usage.

Motorola has done an excellent job with the Peek Display on the RAZR 5G. It’s more versatile than ever, and apart from battery benefits, it made me use my phone less because I could do so much on the tiny screen. Overall, it is a much more improved clamshell foldable smartphone. You might not notice it at first, but there are plenty of upgrades that add to the overall user experience.

Motorola RAZR 5G brings an upgraded 48MP camera and faster Snapdragon 765G chip

Motorola has finally lifted the covers from its latest foldable phone – the RAZR 5G. As the name makes it abundantly clear, the second-gen RAZR brings 5G to the table. But that’s not all, as the new Motorola offering packs a faster processor, improved imaging hardware and a couple of new software tricks. The RAZR 5G also introduces a few design changes such as a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor, a retouched hinge and a curvier profile than its predecessor. Motorola has also made the cover display more useful by bringing more UI controls to it. Plus, the company has added one more color option to the mix this time around, offering the RAZR 5G in a trio of colors – Blush Gold, Liquid Mercury and Polished Graphite

Talking about the innards, you get a 2.7-inch cover display and a 6.2-inch inner foldable display. Motorola says the cover display is now more functional, as it now features a navigation bar at the bottom to let users quickly reach the home screen. Moreover, users can also use swipe gestures to launch the camera app, access shortcuts to call or text their favorite contacts, reply to a message, get navigation notifications from Google Maps, and access the media playback controls. Plus, the Quick View display now has its own full keyboard to let users reply to incoming messages.

Under the hood, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 765G SoC keeps things running accompanied by 8 gigs of RAM and 128GB of onboard storage. Coming to the camera department, the Motorola RAZR 5G packs an upgraded 48MP rear camera that can capture 4K videos at 30fps and slo-mo HD videos at 240fps frame rate. Over at the front, Motorola has equipped its latest offering with a 20MP selfie camera.

The foldable phone ships with a 2,800mAh battery that supports 15W TurboPower charging. An almost stock flavor of Android 10 handles things on the software side. Notably, the Motorola RAZR 5G only supports the sub-6GHz 5G network, and not the faster mmWave 5G network. It is priced at $1,399 and will be available in an unlocked state from Best Buy, B&H Photo, Amazon, and Motorola’s official website. Talking about carrier availability, AT&T and T-Mobile will sell it in the US starting the fall season.

Motorola RAZR 5G in Blush Gold colorway appears online, headed to T-Mobile

Motorola is gearing up to launch its next foldable smartphone – the RAZR 5G – on September 9 in China. So far, we have seen multiple leaked renders of the upcoming device and have also come across its key specifications via leaks, spoiling the surprise for potential buyers. It now appears that Motorola has another colorway of the Moto RAZR 5G in the pipeline in addition to the all-black model, and this one is targeted at those who like some bling on their gadgets. Prolific tipster Evan Blass has shared high resolution renders of the RAZR 5G in its Blush Gold avatar that is headed to T-Mobile.

The Blush Gold Motorola RAZR 5G follows in the footsteps of the first-gen Motorola RAZR that also arrived in a similar gold shade a few months after its launch in a sole black color option. The new renders give us a closer look at some of the design changes Motorola has made for the new RAZR smartphone. First, the fingerprint sensor has now been moved from the chin to the back of the smartphone, where a batwing logo is emblazoned across it. Additionally, the glass surrounding the cover display now has a smoother slope and an overall curvier profile for a more comfortable in-hand feel.

Image: Evan Blass (@evleaks)

As per a previous leak, the Motorola RAZR 5G will feature a faster Snapdragon 765G silicon compared to the Snapdragon 710 SoC packed inside its predecessor. It will also feature a more capable 48MP rear camera that has four times more pixels, and the resolution of the front camera has also been bumped from 5MP to 20MP on the Moto RAZR 5G. The battery capacity has also been slightly upped to 2,800mAh, but we don’t know how fast it will charge and whether it will support wireless charging. Aside from the T-Mobile-bound Blush Gold, the Motorola RAZR 5G will be widely available in a ‘Polished Graphite’ shade.

Motorola RAZR 5G leak tips faster Snapdragon 765G chip, better cameras and larger battery

The Motorola RAZR 5G has been making rounds of the rumor mill for quite a while now, and even posed for the camera via leaked live images back in July. Now, tipster Ishan Agarwal has shared details about some of the hardware upgrades that the Motorola RAZR 5G will bring to the table such as more capable camera hardware, faster silicon, and a larger battery among others.

Motorola RAZR 5G will reportedly draw power from the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chip, a notable improvement from the Snapdragon 710 SoC packed inside its predecessor. The upcoming device is also said to pack a more powerful 48MP rear camera, which is again a notable upgrade over the 16MP snapper on the first-gen RAZR.

The resolution of the front camera has also been bumped up from 5MP on the Motorola RAZR to 20MP on its 5G variant which is rumored to debut later this month. Plus, the battery capacity has also been increased to 2,800mAh, but there is no word whether the fast charging capability has received a boost as well. It appears that the Motorola RAZR 5G will be offered in a ‘Polished Graphite’ shade.

Confirmed: Microsoft could acquire US arm of TikTok by September 15

We haven’t been covering the whole the US is banning Tik Tok situation because we thought it was way too political but, it has been trending on social media. Now, it looks like Microsoft wants a piece of the pie. On a new statement, Microsoft confirmed that they want to buy the US arm of Tik Tok and, this development comes after Satya Nadella talked to the US President. According to them, they are interested in doing the security review which the president asked for and they will also pursue discussions with Tik Tok’s parent company, ByteDance. These discussions should be completed by the week of September 15th and Microsoft would also allow other investors to pitch in. We’ll keep you posted.

Samsung could be interested in buying a small stake in ARM

Speaking of purchases, on Friday we covered how NVIDIA wants to acquire Arm, and now it looks like Samsung wants a small piece of that pie. According to an industry official, Samsung is considering buying a small stake in Arm, around 3 or 5%. Apparently Samsung’s goal is to reduce their royalty payments for producing chips based on their architecture. The problem is that, we’re not sure if even the NVIDIA deal will actually happen as it might bring some antitrust issues. We know that to some degree, Samsung, NVIDIA and Apple sort of compete in the same business which is why Samsung’s strategy works best. A small share of this assures regulators that there isn’t anti-competitive business going on and, they did a similar thing with ASML back in 2012. NVIDIA is apparently in advanced talks with Softbank so, we’ll see how this evolves.

Here’s your first look at the HUAWEI Mate 40 and its ginormous camera bump

Recently we started getting rumors of the Mate 40 series as we get closer to October. Now, we have some CAD renders from OnLeaks and, they look kinda funny. Now, remember this is not the Pro so no waterfall display, we get a regular curved display with a dual pill-shaped punch hole on the top left. Now, when you turn the phone around we get this huge stove, and I mean huge. It has three camera sensors, with no periscope lens and another sensor that kinda looks like Apple’s LiDAR solution. The leak also mentions that this is a 6.4in display but, we don’t have any more information on the internals just yet.

Check out the new real-life pictures of the Moto RAZR 5G

Last week we got some new pics of the upcoming RAZR from Evan Blass but, now we get some hands on images from Weibo. These aren’t exactly high-res but, we are available to see some new improvements. For starters, the chin is getting smaller and apparently the fingerprint sensor is gone. We’re also able to see the outside and, it looks like we’ll still be getting a single main camera but, according to the rumors this will be upgraded to a 48MP sensor and the selfie camera is also expected to jump up to 20MP. However, we can’t really see if the notch is changing due to the dark wallpaper. Some of the other leaked specs include the Snapdragon 765G, 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage and a 2845 mAh battery with 18W charging.

Story of the day:

Google Pixel 4a is finally official and it costs a sweet $349

Google’s Pixel 4a 5G is coming this fall at $499, Pixel 5 will tag along too

Yes, it happened. Can I start saying finally again? The Google Pixel 4a was FINALLY announced. Let’s start by giving you the official specs, this phone brings a 5.81in FHD+ display, it’s powered by the Snapdragon 730G, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It brings a 3140 mAh battery with 18W fast charging and USB PD 2.0 standard. You’re getting a single 12.2MP shooter at the back, with both OIS and EIS stabilization and it supports features like HDR+, Dual Exposure controls, Portrait Mode, and even, Night Sight with astrophotography. Video Capture is kinda limited as it is capped at 1080p with a 30fps frame rate, and the selfie camera is an 8MP shooter at f/2.0 with no autofocus magic. It’s already available for pre-orders and it retails at $349, it will be available for purchase on August 20th. However, Google didn’t stop there, they leaked their own line up for the fall… They revealed that we’ll be getting the Pixel 4a 5G which will start at $499 and it will debut along the Pixel 5 which we still don’t know if that will be a flagship or not.
