OnePlus Health app gives us our first clear look at the OnePlus Band

OnePlus recently teased the design of its first fitness band that is rumored to launch in the upcoming weeks. While leaks have already given us a glimpse of the device in three color options, nothing official has been shared so far. That changes now. OnePlus has listed the official companion app for its fitness wearables on the Play Store, and some of the featured images on the app repository offer our first clear look at the OnePlus Band’s design.

OnePlus Health app mentions both a smartwatch and fitness band

The OnePlus Health app, which is currently listed to be in the early access phase, will be used for recording and visualizing data such as heart rate, sleep pattern, steps walked, calories burned, and distance covered to name a few. Notably, the app’s description on the Play Store mentions both a smartwatch and fitness bands.

“Pair and manage various smart devices such as smartwatches and bands. Customize and sync message notifications and incoming call info,” it says. To recall, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau recently confirmed that OnePlus is making a smartwatch, but so far, details about the project are yet to surface online.

AMOLED display, IP68 rating and SpO2 level monitoring

As per previous leaks, the OnePlus Band will first be launched in India carrying a price tag of around $40. As for the specifications, it will feature a 1.1-inch AMOLED display and will last up to 14 days on a single charge. Taking about its fitness-centric capabilities, it will offer round-the-clock heart rate tracking, SpO2 blood saturation monitoring, and sleep tracking.

Other rumored features of the OnePlus Band include 13 exercise modes and an always-on mode. As per leaked renders, the OnePlus fitness band will be up for grabs in three color options – black, orange, and blue – all three of which will likely flaunt a dual-tone design. With the companion app going live on the Play Store, it appears that the OnePlus Band is not too far away in time.

OnePlus Band leak gives us our first look at its ‘not so original’ design

Well, look what do we have here! Merely a day after rumors emerged that OnePlus might have a fitness band in the pipeline, another major leak has surfaced online. And this one claims to give us our first look at the OnePlus Band. The ever-reliable tipster Mukul Sharma (aka @stufflistings) has shared renders of the upcoming fitness band from OnePlus, and it looks quite appealing.

I dig that sweet dual-tone finish

The leaked renders show us the upcoming OnePlus wearable in three color options, all of which appear to rock a dual-tone finish. The first one has a black band with a light grey underside, and on the other one, you also get a light grey trim with an appealing orange finish on the inner side. But the best one, in my opinion, is the navy blue band with a contrasting lighter shade on the inner side.

The black bezels surrounding the display and the overall assembly rock a uniform design across the three color options. There is also a fairly large OnePlus branding on the bottom bezel, which looks quite garish. As for features, the OnePlus offering will reportedly feature an OLED display, while the features it offers include water resistance and multi-day battery life.

A possible January 11 debut is on the cards?

As per a recent report, OnePlus will first launch its fitness band in India and will reportedly sell it for around the $40 mark. And if all things fall in place, it might debut in February or even in January. However, if you look closely at the leaked renders, the date on the display says January 11, which actually falls in line with rumors circulating on the internet.

Now, where have I seen the OnePlus Band before?

Oppo Band (Left) vs the upcoming fitness band from OnePlus (Right)

Given the recent history of OnePlus phones taking a generous dose of inspiration from Oppo smartphones, I was a tad skeptical about the design. I did a little digging into Oppo’s product portfolio and guess what? The OnePlus Band looks identical to the Oppo Band that was launched in June this year. Save for the branding and color scheme, the whole design and form factor shares an uncanny resemblance. I see what you did there, OnePlus!

OnePlus Band will reportedly arrive early next year with a $40 price tag

OnePlus recently confirmed that the company is working on a smartwatch that will make its debut early next year. However, it appears that it is not the only wristwear that the company has in the pipeline. According to a report from AndroidCentral that cites internal sources, OnePlus plans to launch an affordable fitness band that will cost somewhere around $40 and might debut in the first quarter of 2021.

OnePlus Band will first arrive in India

The company’s upcoming fitness band will carry the OnePlus Band moniker. Key features of the OnePlus Band include an OLED display, multi-day battery life, and water resistance. However, details such as its design and innards are still shrouded in mystery. Notably, the OnePlus Band will first be launched in India, the largest market for the company and a testing ground for new class of products such as its TV portfolio.

OnePlus Band will reportedly arrive a few weeks before the OnePlus 9 series breaks cover. And if the rumored March debut of the OnePlus 9 trio is anything to go by, the OnePlus Band might hit the shelves at some point in February or even January. The report further adds that the OnePlus fitness band will be priced under ₹3,000 (~ $41) in India, and depending upon the market reception, OnePlus might decide to sell it in other regions as well.

OLED display and a water-resistant build are on the table

It appears that OnePlus wants a slice of the budget wearable segment that is currently dominated by Xiaomi in India, with Realme emerging as the next big player. While more details are still awaited, it appears that OnePlus is targeting two different price spectrums with its upcoming wearables – OnePlus Band for the price-conscious segment, while its smartwatch will set its sights on the premium segment.

For now, OnePlus’ H1 2021 schedule looks to be quite a busy one. Aside from a fitness band and its highly-anticipated (and long-awaited) smartwatch, the company is also shaking up its smartphone launch strategy too. As per previous leaks, OnePlus will launch three new smartphones in the OnePlus 9 family – the vanilla OnePlus 9, the OnePlus 9 Pro, and a more affordable Snapdragon 865-powered model called OnePlus 9 Lite.
