LG G3 first look, PadFone X AT&T impressions, Galaxy S5 Active surprise & more | Pocketnow Weekly 098

New York City is a fine place to sneak a peek at some unreleased devices, and that’s just what we did this week with the LG G3 event (streamed from London to an airy presentation room in a Chelsea skyscraper) and AT&T’s ASUS PadFone X announcement (held on a posh rooftop lounge near the Flatiron). At one of those events, Daniel Bader of MobileSyrup was our seat neighbor, so we thought we’d invite him on this week’s podcast to discuss the more globally significant of these high-profile launches.Join us as we share our impressions of the LG G3: how it stands on ...

ASUS announces New PadFone Infinity

We knew we were supposed to expect a refresh thanks to recent leaks and today is the day ASUS announced the PadFone Infinity refresh. Just as the leaks implied, the new version rocks a faster processor, the quad-core Snapdragon 800 clocked at 2.2GHz. A microSD card slot has also been added as well as a noise cancellation secondary microphone. While the camera is still the same 13-megapixel shooter, ASUS has implemented a software feature called PixelMaster which combines more pixels into a single ...

New ASUS PadFone Infinity smiles for the camera

Remember the ASUS PadFone Infinity? It’s the third iteration of the PadFone concept and it was unveiled at this year’s MWC, where we made sure to check it out up-close and personal (that was the A80 model, powered by a Snapdragon 600 processor). Rumors have recently mentioned a possible refresh, with a Snapdragon 800 processor, and model number A86. Apparently, this follow-up will fit in its tablet housing/docking station perfectly, since ASUS maintained the exact outer aspect of the ...

Didn’t Make It To MWC 2013? Here’s Everything You Missed (Video)

Mobile World Congress 2013 was, as promised, a boatload of fun and a bucket of hot tech-geek action. While we didn’t see everything we wanted to, we were treated to an avalanche of smartphones and tablets running everything from Android to Windows Phone to Sailfish to FirefoxOS. We got a gander at some really impressive form factors too, at sizes ranging from the conventional to the fantastic. If you were off the internet for the duration of last week, or if you simply couldn’t deal with ...

Mobile World Congress 2013 Recap

Technically, the Mobile World Congress may finish-up tomorrow, but with all the big smartphone and tablet events over, we’re calling it a wrap. We’ve had a great time the past several days bringing you news of all the new hardware and software companies came to the event to promote, and as we now begin to recuperate and get back to business as usual, we wanted to take a look back on MWC 2013 and everything it brought us. The week leading up to the MWC was filled with rumors, as we should expect, and while some played out, others ...

The Pocketnow Weekly Podcast, Episode 033: The Great MWC Wrap-Up

We think it’s pretty fair to say that MWC 2013 was one part IFA and one part CES: a few stark disappointments peppered among some really amazing stuff. We’ve seen technology this week ranging from the incredible to the absurd – from the third iteration of ASUS’s wild Padfone concept to the improbable debut of a Kyocera Echo lookalike. The big guys have come out to play, too, but they’re a little shy this time around: neither Samsung’s Galaxy Note 8.0 nor Nokia’s midrange Lumias blew the roof off the joint. Even a few has-beens came out to confuse ...

ASUS Padfone Infinity vs. ASUS Padfone 2 (Video)

Now that you’ve had a chance to take a look at the new Padfone Infinity from ASUS you probably have a general sense of some of the improvements ASUS has managed to make over last year’s Padfone 2, but how do these two models really stack up when compared head-to-head? We stuck around the ASUS booth at the MWC to find out just that. It’s remarkable how similar ASUS has kept the look of the phone, and even with the new model being slightly larger, when ...

ASUS Padfone Infinity Hands-On (Video)

Yesterday we got to hear ASUS announce its latest Padfone model, the Padfone infinity. With the new tablet/smartphone combo now official, we decided to go hands-on with the model to see for ourselves just what ASUS was able to put together. There are no basic changes to the Padfone concept this time around: you’ve still got a smartphone alongside a tablet dock, which must have the smartphone inserted in order to function. Like so many other flagship Androids we’re hearing about lately, the new Padfone graduates ...

ASUS, Padfone is Great in Theory but Poor in Practice

I love tablets. I’ve loved tablets from the time I first laid eyes on one. I was in high school and one of my friend’s younger sister got a Windows tablet for Christmas. From that time, I couldn’t shake the idea of how awesome it would be to have a portable computer without a bulky keyboard. Give me a break, I was only 16. Three years later, I bought my first tablet, a 5-inch Android tablet made by Archos. Fast forward to today and I’ve owned somewhere north of 20 tablets. Of those, at least five have been ASUS-made tablets. And of them all, some of my very favorite ...

ASUS Announces 1080p Padfone Infinity

It’s ASUS’s turn to take the spotlight at the Mobile World Congress, and this morning the company hosts its press event to cap-off the past week of teaser videos. After starting off with news of some more PC-focused services, including a whole lot of cloud-based offerings, the company finally got around to some mobile hardware, announcing the Padfone Infinity. The Padfone Infinity steps up from the Padfone 2′s 4.7-inch 720p screen to a five-inch 1080p component. The handset features an aluminum ...
