Google Pixel 5a is reportedly launching on June 11

Google launched the Pixel 4a not too long ago in August last year, at least going by the usual 12-month product cycle for a phone. But it appears that the company is trying to hasten things a little bit this year with its successor – the Pixel 5a. As per tipster Jon Prosser, the Pixel 5a is going to make its debut on June 11 this year, almost two months ahead of the usual 1-year cycle, as previous rumors speculated an August launch that also aligns with the stable release of Android 12.

The leakster recently mentioned that a new Google phone will break cover on June 11 without revealing a name, and that it will be preceded by the launch of new Pixel Buds that will arrive in April this year. And unsurprisingly – for a Google phone, that is – the Pixel 5a was recently leaked in the form of some high-resolution renders rocking a familiar design and an upgraded dual rear camera setup.

New Pixel Buds are likely coming in April this year

You get a familiar all-black polycarbonate build with a white power button to provide that signature dual-tone aesthetic element. The Pixel 5a will reportedly feature a 6.2-inch OLED display with an FHD+ resolution, and there will be a circular hole-punch cutout in the top-left corner – just like the Pixel 4a. However, we are not sure if Google is going to upgrade the screen refresh rate to 90Hz this time around.

Over at the back though, things will be slightly different. We see a dual-camera module similar to the one we got on the Pixel 4a 5G, which means the Pixel 5a will finally add a second camera that will likely use an ultra-wide-angle lens. There is a fingerprint sensor at the back, and the 3.5mm headphone jack has been retained as well. As for the overall footprint, the Pixel 5a is said to be 2.3mm taller, but 0.8mm narrower compared to the Pixel 4a 5G.

Google’s upcoming launches: Pixel-Buds in mid-April, a phone on June 11

Google is tipped to be working on the next iteration of its Pixel Buds, which have been in the market for almost a year now. A new leak has revealed the launch date of the next Pixel Buds. Moreover, Google is rumored to be working on a phone, which is said to launch on June 11. If we are to speculate, the upcoming phone could be the Pixel 5a.

According to tipster Jon Prosser, Google is gearing up to launch its new Pixel Buds in mid-April. Not much has leaked about the upcoming audio product. Separately, in his tweet, Prosser also mentioned a launch date for a Google phone. He says that Google could announce a phone on June 11. However, the name of the smartphone is still unknown. That said, the Pixel 5a has appeared in leaks in recent times. Hence, we could be looking at the Pixel 5a launch date.

As per a previous leak, Google is preparing to launch the successor to its beloved Pixel 4a. If the leaked images are to be believed, the Google Pixel 5a looks identical to the Pixel 4a 5G. There are slim bezels on the op and slides, a noticeable chin, and a selfie camera hole-punch in the top-left corner. The smartphone is tipped to feature a 6.2-inch OLED display with an FHD+ resolution. However, it is unclear if we’ll also get a high refresh rate.

Coming to the back, there is a squircle camera island that houses two cameras with an LED flash. This is an upgrade from the single rear shooter found on the current Pixel 4a. We don’t know the details about the imaging hardware, but the second camera is likely an ultra-wide-angle camera. Further, the configuration is said to be the same as the Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5. We can expect a 12MP primary camera accompanied by a 16MP ultrawide-angle lens.

From the leaked image, you can also notice a unibody rear panel is again made out of plastic, with a rear-mounted physical fingerprint sensor. You’ll also get a 3.5mm headphone jack as well as stereo speakers. The upcoming smartphone is slated to be 2.3mm taller, 0.8mm narrower, and 0.6mm thicker than the Pixel 4a 5G.

Google Pixel 5a leak shows a familiar design with an upgraded dual rear camera setup

Well, another upcoming Google phone has just leaked in all its glory, continuing the rich tradition of Google loosely guarding its hardware secrets. This time, the centerstage is being taken by the Pixel 5a, the successor to the beloved Pixel 4a. The leak, which comes courtesy of OnLeaks (via Voice), shows the Pixel 5a in all its glory, flaunting a very, very familiar design.  Actually, scratch that. The Pixel 5a looks identical to the Pixel 4a 5G.

A design identical to the Pixel 4a 5G, but I'll take it

Over at the front, you get the same clean design as the Pixel 4a – slim bezels on the top and slides, a noticeable chin, and a selfie camera hole-punch in the top-left corner. The OLED display reportedly measures 6.2-inches with an FHD+ resolution, but it is unclear if the Pixel 5a makes the jump to a 90Hz refresh rate, or sticks to a traditional 60Hz panel like its predecessor.

At the back, there is a squircle (square with rounded corners) camera island with two imaging lenses and an LED flash. Yes, two cameras, up from the single snapper on the Pixel 4a. The leak doesn’t go much into detail about the imaging hardware, but the second snapper is likely an ultra-wide-angle camera. The configuration is said to be the same as the Pixel 4a 5G and the Pixel 5 though.

Finally, two rear cameras!

And given Google’s love for using the same camera hardware on its phones over and over again, we can expect a 12MP primary camera sitting alongside a 16MP ultrawide snapper at the back. While that might sound like a bummer, Google keeps improving the imaging output with each generation by optimizing the sensors and working its computational photography magic. And hey, two sensors offer more versatility to the Pixel 5a compared to the single rear camera on its predecessor, so no complaints there from my side.

And oh, the unibody rear panel is again made out of plastic, with a rear-mounted physical fingerprint sensor taking care of authentication duties. The Pixel 5a is retaining the 3.5mm headphone jack, and there are stereo speakers as well. Additionally, the upcoming Google offering is said to be 2.3mm taller, 0.8mm narrower, and 0.6mm thicker than the Pixel 4a 5G.

The 3.5mm headphone jack is still there, and so are the stereo speakers

Unfortunately, there is no word on the rest of the specs such as the processor powering it, battery capacity, memory, etc. Similarly, details about the pricing and launch date are also under the wraps at the moment. But given the Pixel 4a’s launch frame, we can expect the Pixel 5a to make its debut somewhere around August this year, which is also when the first stable build of Android 12 comes out.
