PlayStation 5 update will let you store games on an external hard drive

Sony has announced the first major update for the PlayStation 5 since its release last November, introducing features like USB extended storage, new share capabilities, and more. It will be available on PS5 consoles globally beginning Wednesday, April 14.

The most notable update will allow PS5 owners to store games on compatible external hard drives, freeing up space on the console. Critically, the feature won’t allow gamers to play titles directly from a connected hard drive. Sony said the limitation is due to next-generation games being designed to take advantage of the console’s high-speed SSD.

PS5-Move-to-USB-Extended-Storage

The feature is simply available if you want to free up space on the console’s internal storage. According to Sony, reinstalling a game from an external hard drive is quicker than re-downloading a game or installing it from a disc. Eventually, Sony plans to enable the PS5’s M.2 expansion slot, which will allow players to add extra usable storage.

The update also introduces new social features, including cross-generation Share Play. PS4 and PS5 players can now Share Play while chatting in parties. PS5 owners can let PS4 owners view their game screen and try out the PS5 games through Share Play, and vice versa. You can share your screen with a friend, pass your controller virtually, or pass a second controller virtual to play co-op games together.

Sony is also introducing enhanced control and personalization options, including the ability to search your library or hide games from view, adjust the magnification of your screen, and individually adjust the voice chat volume of those in your party. PS5 owners can also pre-download automatic updates, so long as developers enable the feature.

Finally, Sony is adding new features to the PlayStation app. In the coming weeks, users will be able to join a multiplayer session on PS5 from the app, manage your PS5 console storage, and more.

Apple’s latest 13-inch MacBook Air, and many more devices on sale today

The official news today begin with Deals, and seriously let’s end the week with Apple deals because I know they’re your favorite. The MacBook Air is currently $100 off, that leaves the Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD variant for $1200… yes this is the higher storage variant, but we also have other deals on different storage tears. The regular AirPods are $30 off, leaving them at $130 shipped. The Beats X are also $30 off, meaning you can grab a pair for $70. We also have deals on TCL smartphones, LG TVs. Razer Controllers and more in the links in the description.

AMD unveils Zen 3 Ryzen 5000 series desktop processors, arriving on November 5

Now let’s talk about AMD, particularly because of how the company continues to make Intel look bad lately. The company revealed their latest line up of processors with the Ryzen 5000 Series. These are built with their new Zen 3 architecture and they are based on a 7nm process. We’re not going to get into too much technical detail but, their new Ryzen 9 5950X brings 16 Cores, and it has a boost frequency of 4.9GHz, and the company claims that this is the highest single thread performance in the market, we’ll have to wait for Linus to confirm that after he segues from his sponsor. It offers a 26% performance improvement over the Ryzen 3000 Series and they claim 21% higher performance than Intel’s top of the line Core i9.. The processors start at $299 with the 6-core Ryzen 5 5600X and the decked out 5950X will cost you $799. All of the 4 new processors will be available on November 5th. All I can say is that it’s amazing how tables get turned over time, as there was a time where AMD wouldn’t dream of catching up to Intel.

Sony’s PlayStation 5 teardown reveals liquid metal cooling and an ingenious stand

And now it’s time to talk Sony, particularly with the company’s PS5. They’re not pulling any punches as the company published an official teardown of the console a couple of days ago. Let’s just start off by saying, this thing is huge, like huge. At the front you get a single USB Type A and a USB type C port but, you get two USB A ports with SuperSpeed at the back, an Ethernet Port, an HDMI and of course, the power port. It also has a PCIe 4.0 port on the inside for future storage expansion. It has air vents up front and the whole back is an exhaust port. You can remove the screwable base to set it horizontally and the white sides are removable as well. Now, the thing that probably made the most buzz is the cooling, you got a huge fan at the top of the console which draws from both sides and more importantly the liquid metal cooling which is close to the SoC under the casing and other layers. We highly recommend you watch the complete teardown if you’re planning on purchasing as, he goes into detail on the GPU, CPU, the heatsink and pretty much everything you need to know about the hardware. A lot of people are concerned on the liquid cooling so, we’ll see how it ages.

OnePlus will launch two TWS earbuds next week, and here’s your first look at one of them

Here’s your first official look at the OnePlus 8T design ahead of its launch

OnePlus 8T leaked renders reveal Lunar Silver and Aquamarine Green color options

Now, the OnePlus 8T isn’t the only thing we’re waiting on from OnePlus, apparently we’re getting two new True Wireless Earbuds. And, remember that joke I made on them not looking like the AirPods and looking like the AirPods Pro? Well… We have some new leaked renders from XDA of the OnePlus Buds Z which were recovered from an APK file. The leaks show off the white variant for these Buds and well, yeah. They look like the AirPods Pro, they even bring the ear tips, probably the only difference is that the back of the EarBud is the same one on the regular OnePlus Buds. The casing is also shorter and wider, with the OnePlus logo at the top and a USB-C port at the back. OnePlus also fully revealed themselves the official design for the 8T. It brings the leaked Aquamarine color variant with the stove at the back and like usual, it looks kind of better than what we got from the renders before. Sadly, they didn’t show the front of the phone but, that doesn’t matter as we now have some CAD renders for the phone from a reliable tipster showing both sides. It brings the updated camera module that OnePlus leaked yesterday and the punch hole at the front. From these renders you can kind of see that the bezels are somewhat smaller. These renders also reveal another color variant which will reportedly be dubbed Lunar Silver. Let me know what you think about this design as, it looks kind of Galaxy S20ish to me.

Apple is working on two AirPods Studio variants, but they won’t debut next week

Now let’s talk Apple as while we were sleeping, Jon Prosser was hard at work tweeting a ton of details on Apple’s upcoming event but more of what we’re not getting from the event. First off, he mentioned that DigiTimes was right to say that the iPhones that will be available in October are going to be the 6.1 iPhone 12 and the 6.1 12 Pro, the 12 Mini and the Pro Max will be the ones launched until November. He also said that the starting price for the Mini is $649 after all, according to his source. After that he said that AirPods Studio have not completed mass production so they will be left out from the event. However, he did give us a price tag, apparently the luxury variant made out of metal and leather will cost $599 but don’t worry, there is a sport-like variant with cheaper materials for $350. And, let’s stay on that negative note for a bit as, he also said that AirTags have been pushed back, at least until March of 2021 so, it looks like another AirPower case but we hope it doesn’t turn into that because they do look interesting. But finally, let’s get to availability, he still stands by the dates he gave us previously with pre-orders beginning on October 16th and they will be in stores by October 23rd for the 12 and 12 Pro. But hold on, we have more in the next segment.

Story of the day:

Massive Apple leak reveals almost everything about the iPhone 12 series

But alright, for the hottest news today, get some pop corn as we have a huge leak from Weibo of everything else you want to know for this Apple Event. Of course we should take all of these leaks with a grain of salt but let’s begin. Apparently the company is going to begin the event with the HomePod Mini which will be a 3.3in speaker with their S5 Processor, it will be priced at $99 and it will be available on November 6th. After that, they’re not losing any time and going straight to the iPhone 12. They’ll begin with the 5.4in 12 Mini which according to him, will start at $699. Then they’re moving on to the 6.1in iPhone 12 which will start at $799. Moving on to the Pros, the 6.1in will start at $999 and will get a new graphite and blue color variant. The 12 Pro Max will start at $1099 with those same colors. All of these will be 5G models and the US variants will bring mmWave. The 12 and the 12 Mini will start at 64GB of storage and go up to 256GB while the Pros will start at 128GB and go up to 512GB. All of them will bring Super Retina XDR displays, a new Magsafe 15W wireless charging and all phones are Dolby Vision capable. They will also use a Smart Data Mode to save power by only using the 5G power for heavy duty apps. Moving on to the cameras, he claims the source isn’t too clear on this one. The 12 and the 12 Mini will bring dual cameras with the main sensor and an ultra wide so, basically the iPhone 11. Deep Fusion and Smart HDR are both getting upgrades. The Pros will bring a triple camera array with the main sensor, the ultra wide a telephoto and a LiDAR sensor, they reportedly bring up to 5x optical zoom. Finally, according to him, the 6.1in 12 and the 12 Pro will be available on October 23rd like Prosser, the Mini will be available on November 13th and the Pro Max on November 20th. Sadly, he didn’t mention any other hardware but we hope that’s not the case.

The Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, Apple’s MacBook Air and more on sale today

The official news today begin with deals and it seems Samsung wants to get even more aggressive than what we’ve seen. The Galaxy S20 Ultra is currently $280 off, leaving the entry level variant for $1120. And don’t worry, this is the unlocked US variant so, no Exynos chip here. The S20+ is also $201 off, leaving the 128GB variant for $998 in Cosmic Black or Grey. Moving on to Apple, the latest MacBook Air is $100 off, leaving the higher end 8GB of Ram and 512GB of storage variant for $1200 and, we also have more deals for other storage tiers in the description. We also have deals on Kindles, BenQ Gaming monitors and more right along those, and yes if you want even more.

ASUS ROG Phone 3 comes to the US for $1,000

Now let’s talk about gaming phones, as it seems that ASUS is still the king in this department with its ROG Phone 3. If you remember it was launched in India back in July but, it’s finally making it’s way to the US. It brings a 6.59in AMOLED display running at 144Hz. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 865+, and it brings up to 16GB of RAM, 512GB of onboard storage and a 6000 mAh battery. But, we’ve heard all of that before so, let’s get to availability and price tags which aren’t exactly positive. The entry level variant which packs 12GB of RAM and 512GB of storage will cost you $1000, and the higher tier variant with 16GB of RAM, it’ll set you back at $1100. It’s currently available on retailers like Amazon or Walmart as we speak. So yeah, definitely not the price tags I thought we’d get given how aggressive Asus can be, but hey, hope it works out.

Qualcomm is working on its own gaming phone in partnership with Asus: Report

And since we already begun with ASUS, how about if we continue talking about the company, but this time with a very interesting Qualcomm twist. According to a new report from DigiTimes, Qualcomm has joined hands with ASUS to develop their own gaming smartphone. Yes, Qualcomm making its own phone. This phone will most likely be powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 875 and, it’ll probably be announced at their Tech Summit in December. The report mentions that ASUS won’t be a simple designer for this smartphone and that both companies are considering a joint-purchase for the components, meaning it will be a team effort throughout the whole process. Apparently they’ll manufacture one million phones, with half of them being Qualcomm branded, and the other half being ROG branded. So yeah, the combo is kinda weird, but this isn’t the first time Qualcomm makes a phone.. You’ll just have to be old enough to remember it from the 90s.

Two budget OnePlus Nord phones coming to the US soon?

Now who’s waiting for the PS5? I’ll admit a part of me is looking more at Xbox Series X, but don’t judge me, I might still go the PS5 route. Thing is for those of you waiting, yes it’s still not out, but now we have some hands-on videos and even gameplay to talk about. Both of these videos come from Japan showing different things from the console. The first one is a 46 second clip that shows the user playing with the console but, you can pretty much only see the controller working. The screen and the console are blurred in the background. However, there’s another full 24min video that shows us the design of the console, the controller and gameplay of three different titles. Sadly, the gameplay is screen recorded so we can’t really show you how good it actually is, and these titles don’t really push the graphics but, you can definitely tell that they’re not playing at 60fps anymore as it looks smoother. We’re getting the PS5 soon so, are you guys planning to get the Xbox or the PlayStation?

New OnePlus 8T leaks show us the phone’s camera and wallpapers

And alright, let’s continue with the new batch of OnePlus leaks and rumors, cause you knew they were coming. We’re about a week away from the OnePlus Event and the company keeps putting out more and more teasers on what we should expect. Before we get into the official teaser, someone on the XDA forums just recovered the new wallpapers for this phone from an unreleased version of the OnePlus Wallpapers App. Moving on, the company went on Twitter to tease low light photography, with a picture taken from on top of a building at sunset. I’ll say first impressions are not bad, but we’ve yet to see a OnePlus phone that actually makes any other phone look bad. We’ll keep you posted on how this evolve, cause this only means more teasers are coming.

Story of the day:

A new HomePod mini may be on its way, but no HomePod 2

The notch may finally become smaller in the iPhone 13

And finally for the most interesting news today, let’s talk Apple as we got two separate news, one for next week’s event, and one for what we won’t be getting on this event cause it seems Cupertino is not ready.… Yesterday we covered how Apple removed all third party speakers from their shelves, hinting to them launching a new HomePod. Well, according to Love To Dream on Twitter, there won’t be no HomePod 2 this year and instead, we’ll be getting a HomePod Mini. And, this isn’t anything new as rumors for the HomePod Mini have been around for a while now. It will most likely be less expensive than the original model, with some of the same features but sacrificing some of the hardware components to bring the price down. Now, let’s move on to the iPhone 12.. Or should I say what we won’t be getting until iPhone 13, probably. On a new tweet, Ice Universe claims that the iPhone 13 will still bring a notch, but this time it will actually get a design change. There’s been a ton of leaks that we’re getting a smaller notch this year with the 12 line but, apparently it’s just the fact that the bezels are becoming slimmer, making the notch seem thinner instead of Apple actually making it smaller. On the next tweet he sketched the 12’s notch against the 13’s rumored one, and the 13 looks way slimmer than the solution on the 12 but… Seriously Apple? We hope at least that one brings ProMotion.

Sony’s PlayStation 5 teardown reveals liquid metal cooling and an ingenious stand

So far, we’ve only had glimpses of Sony’s PlayStation 5 from the official reveal and a few videos from Japanese publications, but nothing too detailed about its inner hardware. Well, the wait ends now, thanks to Sony’s official teardown video of its latest console. Yasuhiro Ootori – VP of Mechanical Design Department, Hardware Design Division at Sony Interactive Entertainment – meticulously took apart the PlayStation 5 on video while explaining the engineering that went behind it. However, the two aspects that stood out the most about the PlayStation 5 are its ingeniously designed stand and the use of liquid metal for cooling

Starting with the stand, it looks like a disc with a slight incline and two claws. Notably, the stand is put to use irrespective of whether the console is kept vertically or placed horizontally on a table. When standing vertically, a single metallic screw at the base is used to hold the stand and the rest of the console in place. Now, if you want to position it vertically, it is easy too, but you must first worry about safely storing the screw. Or NOT.

Source image

The stand’s underside has a small compartment where the screw can be safely kept. Now, all you have to do is rotate the top of the stand and the screw will be safely sealed in the compartment. And if you’re worried about the screw hole at the base being visible while the console is kept horizontally, Sony also hides a small plastic screw in the aforementioned compartment that can be used to cover the screw hole. Neat, isn’t it? Now, you can use the stand’s claws to clip it alongside the real panel, while the flat portion cushions the sides as the PlayStation 5 is laid horizontally.

The M.2 slot for expanding the storage using PCIe 4.0 drives.

The other interesting thing we learned from the PlayStation 5 teardown video is that Sony has used liquid metal for cooling. Now, this is not a first, as Asus has already showcased it on video and plans to use the novel solution in its ROG-branded gaming laptops soon. However, it is by no means an easy feat to achieve inside a console, as Sony claims to have spent over two years trying to fine-tune the liquid metal technology and getting it ready for the PlayStation 5

PlayStation 5 uses liquid metal for cooling instead of thermal paste or vapor chamber solution.

The liquid metal plays the role of a Thermal Interface Material (TIM) to draw heat from the processor and direct it to the huge heat sink inside the PlayStation 5. Ootori pointed out that the liquid metal solution is as effective as the vapor chamber technique, which Microsoft has adopted for its own next-gen console – the Xbox Series X – without namedropping it. The Sony executive also mentioned that using liquid metal instead of the conventional thermal paste as TIM ensures “long-term, stable, high-cooling performance.”

Sony claims that despite using a larger two-side fan, the PS5 will run quieter.

Sony’s official PlayStation 5 teardown video also reveals the M.2 slot that can be used to expand the storage using compatible PCIe 4.0 drives. Additionally, the two dust catchers are easily accessible, which means all foreign particles can be vacuumed out without breaking a sweat by just removing the two side panels with bare hands. On the front, you’ll find a USB Type-C port and a USB 2.0 Type-A port.

The rear panel has two USB 3.1 Type-A ports without a 10Gbps output, sitting alongside an ethernet port and an HDMI port. The console is also claimed to be quieter, despite using a larger, double-sided fan with a 120mm diameter and 45mm thickness. Overall, it appears that the PlayStation 5 won’t be a repairability nightmare. You can watch the entire teardown video below:

Sony’s PlayStation 5 starts at $399.99 and is releasing on November 12

Of course, earlier we had some announcements from Xbox as we were getting a pretty major Playstation Showcase. Yes, the company just announced that the regular PS5 will cost $499, and the Digital Edition will cost $399, retaining the PS4’s original price tag. They will be available on November 12th, with pre-orders being available on September 17th on “select retailers”. Oh, and by the way that November 12th date applies to the US, Japan, Mexico, Australia and a few more countries, the rest of the world will have to wait an extra week. We also got a lot of interesting trailers and announcements like the PlayStation Plus Collection which is a subscription that let’s subscribers play a range of PS4 games on their Ps5. We also got trailers for a new God of War, a new Final Fantasy, Spiderman and more. We’ll let you know if we get any more announcements before November, as competition will most likely get intense.

Facebook’s new Oculus Quest 2 VR headset is sharper, faster and also cheaper at $299

Keeping up with the official news, Facebook had their Connect Event today and we got the Oculus Quest 2. This new VR headset is smaller and 10% lighter than the original Quest, it’s also sharper, with a resolution of 1832 x 1920 pixels per eye, meaning a 50% increase over its predecessor. Some of the specs include the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2, 6GB of RAM and it offers 90Hz refresh rate support across their Home Environment, and Oculus TV sections. Facebook will be shipping this product with new Touch Controllers which offer better ergonomics and more efficient controller tracking to preserve battery, lasting 4x longer than the previous one. It’s priced at $299 which is cheaper than it’s predecessor and it’s currently available for pre-orders with shipments starting on October 13th. Now tell me, do any of you actually care about VR, cause this really reminds me the old days of 3D on everything.

New Huawei Mate 40 series may launch until 2021

There was some interesting things that we weren’t able to cover yesterday due to the Apple Event. We usually expect Huawei to announce their new Kirin chip at IFA, followed by the release of the Mate 40 flagship. Well, we all know how this year is going so we thought we could get them at HDC but that obviously didn’t happen. A couple of days ago Evan Blass tweeted out that if you’re waiting on the Mate 40 Series, you won’t be able to get your hands on it until next year. After that Ross Young said that the Huawei Mate X’s official successor was set to launch this year but due to difficulties with the hardware sourcing, the release will be postponed until 2021. Now, the reasoning behind this isn’t 100% clear yet but, we know that the company was cut off from TSMC yesterday and starting today they wouldn’t be able to get OLED displays from Samsung and LG. They have reportedly stocked up on chips from TSMC and they’ll be using BOE Display, but this could have delayed production significantly and they’re still trying to figure out their next move. Let’s just say that this whole mess is quite epic, but we’ll keep you posted on how it evolves.

Here’s your first look at Apple’s upcoming AirPods Studio wireless headphones

One of the things we’ve been expecting from Apple are the AirPods Studio. It’s also one of those things we were expecting in yesterday’s event, and nothing happened. We knew that we wouldn’t be getting those at yesterday’s Event but they have been in the rumor mill for a long time. Well, now we have some renders from Jon Prosser and Concept Creator, which were reportedly made based on a video of the actual product. They bring a pretty sleek and minimalistic metal and leather design. According to a tweet from Prosser, they’re codenamed B515 and they’ll bring Magnetic Ear Cups, Reversible detection like the AirPods which means you can put them on any way you want and the Audio will adjust to your ears, no headphone jack and a USB C port. Since we didn’t get them yesterday, we’re expecting to get them at Apple’s iPhone 12 Event. There’s still no word on the price tag or if it will bring Active Noise Cancelation. It doesn’t seem like they will given how they won’t cover your ears entirely, but who know’s. We’ll see how it goes.

Story of the day:

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra to have significant camera changes

And finally, for the hottest news today, let’s discuss the future of the Samsung Galaxy lineup. With both the S20 and the Note 20 released this year, it’s already time to discuss the S21? According to some Korean industry sources, the Galaxy S21 Ultra will bring a quad camera setup, similar to the one on the S20 Ultra but with a pretty interesting change, it’ll bring two telephotos, just like the Huawei P40 Pro Plus. According to the report this device will use a standard 3x lens and a periscope module to offer more than 5x magnification. The other lenses include the 108MP main lens and another 12MP ultra wide shooter. Oh, and apparently we’ll also get a 40MP selfie shooter m. The report also mentions that the rest of the S20 line won’t offer major photography improvements when compared to the Ultra, and we still won’t be getting a ToF sensor. Moving on to a different report, but sticking to the S20, Galaxy Club just leaked the model number of the battery and the capacity, apparently it’ll be a 5,000 mAh power pack. We’re also expecting it to bring 5nm processors from both Qualcomm and Samsung so, battery life should get a pretty big boost. We’re still months away from the S21 but, this is already getting interesting as, Samsung apparently changed the line’s codename to Palette, and remember that some of the rumors include this line bringing an S Pen. If the Note 20 Ultra is any indication, I think this is something to actually look forward to.
