Samsung Galaxy Book Pro is a MacBook Air rival, but it’s even thinner and lighter

Samsung has just launched its latest thin and light laptop – the Galaxy Book Pro. The new Samsung offering comes in two sizes – 13.3-inch and 15.6-inch. Both the variants share the same design and core internals, except for a few differences which include the screen real estate, batter size, and the amount of RAM fitted inside the chassis. Color options on the table are Mystic Blue and Mystic Silver, in case you’re too keen on the aesthetics part.

It weighs just 0.87Kg and is merely 11.2mm thin

Starting with the build, Samsung says that the Galaxy Book Pro is its lightest mainstream laptop ever, weighing in at just 0.87kg. For comparison, the current generation MacBook Air tips the scales at 1.2kg. Samsung has managed to achieve that feather-weight profile despite using metal – Series 6000 aluminum to be specific – and says that the device has also passed the MIL-STD 810G durability tests.

The smaller variant packs a 13.3-inch FHD (1920×1080 pixels) AMOLED display, while the 15.6-inch model just bumps up the screen size despite keeping the resolution figures intact. You can equip the machine with up to an 11th Gen Intel Core i5 or i7 processor, paired with up to 16 gigs of RAM and 512GB of NVMe SSD.

65W fast charging, Intel Evo badge, and scissor-switch keys with 1.1mm travel

Both the Galaxy Book Pro models support 65W fast charging, while authentication is handled by a fingerprint sensor embedded in the power button. Samsung says the Galaxy Book Pro employs a re-engineered keyboard with scissor-switch keys that offer a decent 1.1mm key travel for a laptop that is just 11.2mm thin.

Also, it is Intel Evo certified, which means it comes with a promise of faster wake time (less than 1 second), fast charging, Wi-Fi 6, and a Thunderbolt 4 port that offer a 40Gb/s data transfer rate. Intel’s Iris Xe integrated GPU is there to handle the graphics department, while wireless connectivity is covered by WiFi 6E and Bluetooth v5.1.

With Galaxy Book Pro, Samsung has made one of the best MacBook Air rivals out there

The Galaxy Book Pro also comes with a host of tricks such as Second Screen that turns your Galaxy tablet into, well, a secondary display. Another tool called Galaxy Smart Switch is there to transfer all data – and even settings – from your old PC to the new Samsung machine, while Quick Share allows data sharing between the laptop and Galaxy phones. More importantly, SmartThings integration allows you to control smart home devices directly from the laptop.

The Galaxy Book Pro starts at $999.99 for the 13.3-inch model, while the 15.6-inch version will set you back by $1,099.99 for the base model. Pre-orders kick off today, while general availability starts on May 14. If you pre-order the device before May 13, you’ll get a $150 from Amazon, or a $150 gift voucher from Best Buy, or an e-coupon worth the same value on the official Samsung online store. Those who drop their money on Samsung’s latest laptop before May 30 will get a $100 in-store credit from the aforementioned outlets.

Here’s our first look at the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Book Pro, Pro 360

Samsung is working on expanding its Galaxy Book series with new Windows laptops this year. We earlier reported that two new Galaxy Book Pro laptops are coming soon. The specs of both Galaxy Book Pro and Pro 360 have already leaked online. Further, a leaked roadmap suggested that Samsung will be announcing this new range of laptops as soon as next month. Now, renders of the duo have appeared online.

The latest development comes from tipster Evan Blass who shared renders of the two Windows-powered laptops that will be launching as part of Samsung’s Galaxy Book lineup. While the Galaxy Book Pro is likely to be the successor to the last year’s Galaxy Ion lineup, the Galaxy Book 360 might as well launch as a successor to the Galaxy Book Flex series. According to the tipster, both the  upcoming laptops will come in two sizes, 13-inch and 15-inch. Further, Samsung will be offering them in two color variants of Blue and Silver for the Galaxy Book Pro and Navy and Gold for the 360 model.

Both the laptops are going to feature an OLED display, which will be one of the USP of the devices. Moreover, the S-Pen support is now expected to be offered on the Galaxy Book Pro series. Multiple configurations are rumored to be available with the 11th Gen Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors. It could be paired with Nvidia Mx450 graphics. The Galaxy Book Pro is said to be available in Wi-Fi and LTE models, while the Galaxy Book Pro 360 is tipped to get Wi-Fi and 5G models. Both the devices are rumored to include a Thunderbolt4 port.

Samsung Galaxy S21 FE could launch earlier than expected

Samsung took wraps off its new mid-range devices – Galaxy A52, A52 5G and Galaxy A72 – at its Awesome UnPacked event yesterday. These devices bring a high refresh rate, multiple cameras with OIS, IP76 rating and more to the mid-range segment. Now, a roadmap of the upcoming Galaxy products has appeared online.

As per a leaked slide by tipster Evan Blass, a mini product roadmap of the unannounced Galaxy devices has detailed the launch timeline of upcoming Galaxy products. According to the slide, Samsung will host another UnPacked event next month. And, instead of smartphones, it will be announcing its PC range that could include the Galaxy Books based on Windows.

Usually, Samsung hosts two Unpacked events per year – one for the Galaxy S series in the first half of the year and the other for the Galaxy Note series in the second half of the year. But in 2021, it has already hosted two UnPacked events within three months. And, aims to host two more in the coming months

The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE is tipped to be launched in August 2021. To be precise, Samsung could hold a Galaxy UnPacked event for its FE device on August 19. This is a bit earlier than usual but then we’ve just seen a single FE device launch from Samsung – the Galaxy S20 FE, which was announced in October 2020.

Apart from the Galaxy Books and Galaxy S21 FE, Samsung is also tipped to be prepping to launch the Galaxy Tab S7 Lite and Galaxy A22 / 5G in June and July, respectively. While not mentioned in the roadmap, Evan believes we should also expect one more Galaxy A series phone in the same month in the form of the Galaxy A82 5G.

While the roadmap has leaked, there is no official confirmation on the launch date of these products. The launch depends on several factors including supply chain. And, we are facing an industry-wide chip shortage, which has also forced Samsung to not launch a Galaxy Note device this year.

Samsung Galaxy Book Pro series with OLED display, 5G is coming soon

Samsung’s Galaxy Book series consists of the Flex, Book 2, and the vanilla model. Now, Samsung is tipped to be preparing a Pro lineup for its Galaxy Book series. Two new Galaxy Book Pro laptops are coming soon, and the specs of both Galaxy Book Pro and Pro 360 have leaked online. The laptops have already received Bluetooth certification. Moreover, it looks like Samsung will be upping the game on the connectivity front. It is said to offer 5G connectivity on one of the models.

As per a report from SamMobile, Samsung is going to offer the Galaxy Book Pro series in two display sizes of 13.3-inch and 15.6-inch. Both the laptops are going to feature an OLED display, which will be one of the USP of the devices. Samsung has been bringing its styluses to more devices lately. The S-Pen support is now expected to be offered on the Galaxy Book Pro series.

Under the hood, multiple configurations are rumored to be available with the Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors. While these are likely to be the 11th gen processors, the details are still under the wraps, and the report doesn’t reveal the information about the generation of processors. The Galaxy Book Pro is said to be available in Wi-Fi and LTE models, while the Galaxy Book Pro 360 is tipped to get Wi-Fi and 5G models.

These are not Chromebooks as the Galaxy Book Pro and Pro 360 will both run full-fledged Windows. The company hasn’t confirmed at this time when it plans on launching the new Galaxy Book Pro series. In fact, there is no official information on the existence of the devices yet. However, as we head towards the launch, we expect some teasers to be revealed soon.
