Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 leak reveals a 120Hz display and improved camera hardware

Samsung’s next foldable, the Galaxy Z fold 2, will reportedly be unveiled at the Galaxy Unpacked event on August 5 or in the immediate weeks that follow if rumors are to be believed. After appearing in a few renders, alleged key specifications (via ETNews) of the upcoming device have now surfaced online, and they look impressive.

The Galaxy Z Fold 2 will reportedly feature a 7.7-inch foldable AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) layer that we last saw on the Galaxy Z Flip. The cover display, on the other hand, measures 6.23-inch diagonally, but there is no word on its resolution or refresh rate numbers. Plus, the phone supports 15W wireless charging as well.

Talking about cameras, we are expecting a 12MP primary camera, a 12MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 64MP telephoto camera. The setup is similar to what we saw on the Galaxy S20, and if that is any indication, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 will offer some serious photography chops, aside from being a foldable phone with bleeding edge hardware and possibly S Pen support as well.

However, ahead of the official unveiling, the foldable smartphone has been spotted receiving 3C certification. It also reveals some details about the product.

Panasonic is famous for their Toughbook line and we have seen them launch tablets every now and then but it’s been a while since we’ve had a chance to play with one. The company just announced their new Toughbook A3 which brings a 10.1in display with 1920 x 1200 resolution, it is powered by a Snapdragon 660 along with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 64GB of expandable eMMC storage. Motorola schedules an event for July 7. Is the Edge Lite finally coming?

Motorola has been pretty busy lately, releasing their new Edge family, the new Moto G lineup and even the Moto Fusion+ and it looks like they want to keep that streak rolling. The company just sent out some press invitations for an event happening on July 7. The teaser doesn’t give out any hints but, we do think this will be the Moto Edge Lite which got certified last week, revealing all of the specs. It’s supposedly going to bring a 6.7in LCD display at 90Hz refresh rate, Snapdragon 765 SoC, a 4800mAh battery and four cameras at the back. We’ll keep you posted once the event happens.

OnePlus Nord may be the official name of the OnePlus Z

OnePlus is straight poking at us right now after all the speculation we’ve had on their new products’ name. So much so that they created a new Instagram account with the user “OnePlusLiteZThing” to post teasers on their new phone. On a now deleted post the company showed two cards, one that says “Here’s to the first 100” with another paragraph that we can’t read and behind it, the other card says the word NORD in all caps. The other posts have several teasers, like even one with what we think is an RGB code for a light tint of blue which is the color variant we’ve always seen in the renders. We’ll keep you posted once more rumors start popping up. Think about it, what if NORD eventually becomes a sub-brand just like Huawei did with Honor? Maybe that’s what they mean by new beginnings.

iPhone 12 could arrive with a new 20W power adapter in the box

iPhones haven’t had the fastest chargers… ever. Well, it looks like they’re ready to keep catching up. A tipster on Twitter just posted some new pictures saying that the iPhone 12 line up will bring a 20W charger. He even shared a picture of the actual charger with the 20W label and now, that charger just got certified in a Norwegian database. The certification was issued on February 28 for a 20W USB-C power adapter. We hope this means that the 20W adapter will go to the Pro models and that Apple will leave the 18W adapter for the non-Pro models but, you never know with Apple. We’re just hoping we never have to see the 5W adapter again.

Story of the day:

This might be our first glimpse of the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2, and it looks weird

We have some new renders for the upcoming Galaxy Fold 2 from Ice Universe and, they look kinda weird. We have two pictures, one showing off the phone and the other one with some basic schematics. Clearly the company is doing its best to fit a larger display on the outer screen as we can see the hurdles in fitting cameras and other hardware. For example, the selfie camera on the main display is on the center of the right side of the phone. It obviously can’t be in the middle because of the crease, and it seems it won’t be on the right as was on the previous fold because of the larger camera module being hinted. So yes, symmetry might not be the folds strong hold, but then again, there are so many usage scenarios for this phone that making it thin and usable is the challenge. He didn’t exactly show the outside but on another picture it does show us the schematics showing the camera hump that looks pretty much like the one on the S20+ and the outer display which is significantly larger and, this one does have the punch hole in the middle. This might be our first glimpse of the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2, and it looks weird

So far, we have seen multiple concept renders of the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2, and some of its rumored specifications have surfaced online as well. Now, prolific leakster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) has shared alleged renders of the Galaxy Fold 2, and the selfie camera placement on the inner display has got us really worried.

As you can see in the images, the selfie camera is neither in the corner, nor does it sit in the middle in accordance with Samsung’s Infinity-O design philosophy. Instead, it is placed in a weird 3/4th ratio alongside the top edge, and it looks unlike anything we’ve seen on a smartphone before, and not in a good way especially for the Galaxy Fold 2.

As far as leaked specs, go the upcoming Samsung foldable phone might feature a 7.7-inch inner display with a 2213×1689 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, while the cover display will use a 6.23-inch 60Hz panel with a 2267 x 819 pixels resolution. It might come with a bundled S Pen as well. The triple rear camera setup will reportedly include 64MP, 16MP, and 12MP sensors, with OIS on the primary and telephoto camera.

We’ll keep you posted once it comes out because I can’t wait to review it.

Here’s the first real-life image of Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Watch 3

The Galaxy Watch 3 is probably one of Samsung’s most leaked products. Yesterday we got a full blown list of specs and now we get images of the watch and well, let’s just say it look familiar. Not that I have anything to complain about with the original design of the Galaxy Watch, but let’s just say this is a very similar twin.. These images come from a South Korean NRAA listing and they show the certification information which includes the model number, certification date and of course, both of the watch variants. These are expected to come in 41 and 45mm variants, bring 1GB of RAM, 8GB of storage and bring an IP68 certification. According to the leaks we should get these earlier, some time during July along with the leaked Galaxy Buds Live.

Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 rumors give us two batteries under the hood

We may have to wait a bit longer to get the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2

Speaking of Samsung, we have some new leaks about the upcoming Galaxy Fold. First off, we know we’re getting an upgrade in looks, but today we get more information on specs. According to a new leak from Twitter, the Fold 2 will bring 2 batteries. This dual battery system will consist of a 2090 mAh and 2275 mAh batteries which add up to 4365 mAh which is less then what we got with the original Fold but according to the tipster, we should expect better battery life thanks to a more power efficient chipset. On another report, it looks like this phone might be very limited once it comes out. According to them, the Fold 2’s software hasn’t reached the first version of its bootloader yet, which means it’s far from being finalized. Another source also claims that there will barely be any production in July and it will most likely start in August, meaning that it will hit stores in late August or September, and it will be very limited. This may be because of supply constraints for the UTG but we’re still expecting the Fold to launch at Unpacked and with a cheaper price tag.

Story of the day:

We may get 120Hz refresh rates in the iPhone 12 Pro

And finally the hottest news today have to do once again with the iPhone 12, and more of what we’re gonna get in the package, and how much it’ll cost you. Yeah you might not like that. Starting off with spec updates DSSC’s Ross Young just tweeted out a new picture with a list of 2020 phones that will bring 120Hz displays. On the list we can see some phones that are already out, like the OnePlus 8 Pro, OPPO Find X2, ASUS ROG Phone 2 but, we also see upcoming phones like the Mate 40 and the iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max. Now, if you go by this list it may seem like the regular iPhones will bring a 60Hz display which is still a possibility but other sources have said that we may be getting 90Hz displays. On another note, supply chain sources say that we may be getting thinner iPhones this year but, that won’t sacrifice battery life as Apple is planning to use their multi-layer stacked mother board which gives more space for the batteries. Then we have another image popping up on Reddit which claims the regular 12s will bring a 60Hz display and the BOE name has been scratched from the display listing for those of you that were worried. It also brings a list of other specs which we’ve covered already, along with the notch that’s 33% smaller.. Now the part where things get tricky is when we talk price. Seems that the regular iPhone 12 might start at $700 instead of $649, while the 12 Max will start at $800. So yeah, it seems the iPhone 11 successor, which is that 12 max is getting more expensive. We may have to wait a bit longer to get the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2

We get new rumors that mention a possible delay in the availability of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Fold 2. New information suggests that we will see this device launch alongside the Galaxy Note 20 series and the Galaxy Z Flip 5G during the next Galaxy Unpacked event. However, we may have to wait a bit longer to buy Samsung’s new foldable device.

Samsung’s new Unpacked event may take place on August 5. Said event would introduce Samsung’s latest flagships to the world. It is believed that the upcoming Note 20 series may start selling just after they become official, but it seems that the Fold 2’s software isn’t ready to be launched. New rumors suggest the software development process hasn’t reached the first version of the device’s bootloader. Further, rumors also say that the production of the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 may start in August, meaning that the device may be available late in August or September, with very limited numbers.

Now, we get more details about its specs and features that are quite interesting.

According to a new report from South Korea, the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 will support 120Hz refresh rates. According to this report, both the Galaxy Fold 2 and the Note 20 series will be available on August 20.

HTC Desire 20 Pro gets a launch date, goes official on June 16

Now for those of you that took that took the resurgence of HTC seriously, well, they’re back, but over promising and under delivering. They said we’d get the company that was famous for flagships back again, but nope. Recently the HTC Desire 20 Pro was spotted on Google Play Support, Bluetooth SIG and Wi-Fi Alliance but now HTC just made it official. The company just put out a teaser banner which says, Save the Date for June 16. Some of the leaked specs include the Qualcomm Snapdragon 665, 6GB of RAM, a 6.5in LCD Display, running Android 10 out of the box. The teaser is pretty dark but if you look closely it shows a punch hole display and a pretty long camera array. Oh well, let’s hope this isn’t the only device as I feel the need to remind HTC what the original HTC Desire was.

Samsung’s app confirms Galaxy Watch 3 name, upcoming bean-shaped earbuds

And I do read the comments, you wanna know what watch I’m wearing. It’s the Galaxy Watch Active 2, and yes it’s hot. Yesterday we covered how the Galaxy Watch 3 went through NTBC certification. Now, XDA found the Watch on the Samsung Wearable App’s code. They also recovered an image which confirms that it will be called Galaxy Watch 3 after all. However, that wasn’t all they found. The app also revealed a bean-shaped earbud which could be the Galaxy Buds X which we covered some time ago. However, we don’t have an official name for those but we do hope to get them at the Unpacked Event along with the Watch and the other products we mentioned yesterday.

It seems that the iPhone 12 production may begin next month

Now, we’ve been covering delays all week regarding the next iPhones for obvious reasons, and we did hear that certain models would begin manufacturing early, but not it seems it won’t be just a few. According to a new DigiTimes report, Apple will be completing their second phase of Engineering Validation and Testing for the upcoming iPhones at the end of June, allowing for production to begin in July. The wording of the report makes it seem like all of the phones will enter production and might launch at the same time but, analysts like Ming Chi Kuo have claimed that the higher-end models will be delayed due to the antenna-in-package design changes to support mmWave 5G. We might still get an announcement in September but will mostly likely get the Pro models until later in Q4.

It seems that the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 won’t come with an S Pen

Speaking of the Samsung Event, we’re also expecting a Galaxy Fold successor and we were hoping that it would bring S Pen capabilities but, it looks like we’re out of luck. According to a new report from South Korea, Samsung will omit the S Pen due to durability issues on the folding screen. You see, the Note 10 display’s thickness which allows for the S Pen is of 0.4mm while the UTG we’re expecting on the Fold 2 is of 0.3mm, meaning it’s not durable enough for the S Pen. On the positive side, the report claims that the Fold 2 will pack a 120Hz display with a higher resolution. Apparently they will also launch a 256GB variant to bring the price down.

Story of the day:

Apple might launch an iMac refresh with thin bezels and T2 security chip at WWDC

Apple to officially announce switch from Intel to ARM chips for Mac hardware in June

Apple will apparently be making some big changes this year at WWDC. According to a new Bloomberg report, Apple will be announcing the fact that they’ll move on from Intel chips to have ARM-based Macs. The initiative is apparently codenamed Kalamata, it will be announced at WWDC but, the transition will happen until next year, to allow developers to prepare for the change. Apple reportedly made the decision after noticing a slower performance gain with Intel’s latest processors, and tests have shown that these custom ARM chips offer higher performance. These chips will be based on the A14 chip that will come with the iPhone 12 and will be built on a more efficient, 5nm process. Apple is working on three custom processors, most likely based on performance tier. They will come along with a GPU and a Neural Engine for Machine Learning. We also have a new leak from Twitter that claims that Apple will be launching a new redesigned iMac. It will have an iPad Pro-like design language with Pro Display bezels, a T2 chip, an AMD Navi GPU and more fusion drive. Sony’s PlayStation 5 game reveal event is happening on June 11

Sony recently decided to postpone their PS5 Game Event for good cause given all the unrest and the protests happening in the US right now. Well, if you were waiting for it, the company just announced a new date for the event. It’ll be happening on June 11 at 1:00 PM PDT. You’ll be able to tune in to it on PlayStation’s YouTube and Twitch channels. As a little surprise, Sony says that the online pre-taped program will be broadcasted at 1080p resolution at 30fps, it’ll run for a little more than an hour and it will be available to everybody. Be sure to prepare popcorn cause we doubt it’ll be short.

Samsung and Corning are working together to develop UTG glass for foldable phones

Samsung introduced their Ultra Thin Glass for foldables this year with the Galaxy Z Flip and we’re expecting to see it on the upcoming Fold. The current material is produced by a Korean manufacturer called Dowoo Insys but Samsung apparently wants to step it up. The company is now partnering with Corning to bring costs down and to have better materials. Corning has apparently been working on foldable glass since 2019 and we could see Samsung phones with this new UTG as soon as 2021.

Apple could let you take long distance group selfies in the future

It looks like Apple is looking to take social distancing to a whole new level. A new patent shows that the company is working on a way to take a group selfie, without all of the people in the picture being present. It would send an invitation to you, and all of the participants would take a separate picture, and software would create a synthetic group picture. The funny part is that Apple filed this patent back in 2018 and it was just granted back to them, probably due to the pandemic. This feature would not only work with still selfies, it would also allow live streaming images and stored video images.

OnePlus Z key specs leaked, could be priced at Rs 24,990 ($330)

We’ve been talking about the OnePlus Z for a while now and that alleged July launch date is getting closer. Now, some users on a forum claim that they were asked to take a survey, asking them if they would be willing to buy a OnePlus smartphone with certain specifications. According to the survey, this phone would bring a 6.55in Super AMOLED display at 90Hz, an on-display fingerprint sensor, a Snapdragon 765, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. It would also bring a 4300 mAh battery with 30W fast charging and a triple camera that consists of a 64MP + 16MP + 2MP array. All of that for a $330 price tag for India. There’s no launch date yet but, the company is having a OnePlus TV event in July 2 for India, and we could get a launch there.

Samsung Money by Sofi will come to the US later this summer

Samsung just launched a new mobile money management system which pretty much competes with the Apple Card. It’s called Samsung Money by SoFi but unlike the Apple Card, it isn’t really a credit card. It’s actually more of a bank account or credit union where you get a MasterCard debit card that doesn’t show any of your information and it works with the Samsung Pay app. Your Samsung Money account will be FDIC insured for $1.5M and users benefit from Samsung’s “defense-grade” security from Samsung Knox. It’ll be available later this summer exclusively for US customers who own a Galaxy smartphone, Samsung promises a secure experience with no account fees.

The iPhone 11 is now the most popular smartphone in the world

We got some quarter results from Omdia and it just confirms that Apple made a big dent on the market with the iPhone 11. Last year the iPhone XR was the number 1 smartphone for Q1 with 13.6M units shipped, but this year the iPhone 11 surpassed it with 19.5M units, despite the pandemic. The phone that follows is the Samsung Galaxy A51 which sold 6.8M units and the iPhone XR is still in the top 5 with 4.7M units. Omdia still anticipates however, that smartphone sales will be down for the rest of the year due to the pandemic so numbers might change for Q2.

Google reveals Android 11 Beta Launch Show schedule on June 3. Here’s how to watch

Google is finally releasing the first Public Beta of Android 11 on June 3rd during their Beta Launch Show. If you want, you’ll be able to attend via YouTube through the Android Developers channel. The event will focus on the different announcements related to all the new features coming with Android 11, as well as Q&As with Google experts and more. We were also expecting to hear something about the Pixel 4a but with the recent delays that apparently won’t be the case. You can check for the events details in the links in our description. It’s not clear which devices will support the public beta on day one, but if you’re not using a Pixel, yeah that’s gonna be a tough one.

Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 could be launched in August, as it reportedly enters mass production

There’s been several rumors that we’ll finally be getting the Galaxy Fold’s successor with the Note 20 this year. Now we got a new report from a South Korean publication that claims that the Fold 2 has just entered mass production. This means we could start getting some official details as early as June. According to the Insiders, the Fold 2 will bring Samsung’s Ultra Thin Glass and it will cost less, despite upgrading to a 120Hz display. Recently we got some patents from Samsung which described how Samsung plans to make Foldables water resistant but it’s not clear if the Fold 2 will bring this feature. The company is expecting to sell 2.5-3M units this year, surpassing the original Fold.

Story of the day:

We may have to wait until November for the iPhone 12 series

It looks like we will have to wait for the iPhone 12 line-up after all this year. According to a new report, this year’s iPhones might be launched until November due to the pandemic. The report also predicts that Apple has 35M units in production for Q2 of 2020 which is 13% lower than what they had last year, but giving the time, we’re not sure if they’re talking about iPhone 12 production, which would be kind of early, or iPhone 11 production which is likely to take a dip. Regardless, we’re expecting 4 different iPhones, all 4 with OLED displays, 5G connectivity, a smaller notch and a boxier design which is reminiscent of the iPhone 4. We’re also hearing of different spec bumps like up to 6GB of RAM in the Pro models and the base storage at 128GB.

Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 could be launched in August, as it reportedly enters mass production

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

We may see the Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 launch in the same Unpacked event as the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series. According to a South Korean publication, Samsung has begun to mass-produce the Galaxy Fold 2. This may give Samsung enough time to release this new foldable in August.

It seems that the COVID-19 pandemic isn’t going to affect the launch of Samsung’s new flagship devices for the second half of 2020. We had received information directly from Samsung that placed the arrival of these devices in the second half of the year, but they didn’t specify a date. Now, it seems that the next Unpacked event won’t suffer delays, like other companies.

The new Samsung Galaxy Fold is supposed to arrive with a lower price tag, a better display that could reach 120Hz refresh rates. Unfortunately, don’t expect a waterproof Fold 2, but we at least we know that Samsung is working on waterproofing it Samsung’s foldable devices, or a least that’s what these patents make us believe. Samsung is also expected to ship between 2.5 and 3 million Galaxy Fold 2 units this year, or that’s what the market forecasts suggest.

“Accordingly, an aspect of the disclosure is to provide an electronic device including a waterproof structure for protecting one or more parts disposed in the interior and on the exterior of the electronic device, by providing the waterproof structure of the electronic device that employs a hinge structure of a foldable electronic device.”

iOS 13.5 brings Exposure Notification API, faster unlock experience while wearing a mask

Apple just started rolling out iOS 13.5 which brings some changes directly related to the pandemic. For starters, it brings the new notification exposure API they built with Google which is the foundation on which contact tracing apps will be developed. Other key features include Face ID now detecting that you’re wearing a mask and immediately asks for your password instead of it taking forever to realize, it also works with Apple Pay and other apps. We have the full list of changes in the description.

OnePlus might not launch another McLaren Edition phone in the future

Remember the phone with the coolest name ever? Yes, we’re talking about the OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Edition. It seems we won’t have another one to mock as, OnePlus is no longer listed in the official McLaren partners page. None of the companies has made a statement yet but it seems that their partnership has come to an end, meaning that we won’t see any McLaren branded phone from OnePlus soon. It could be a mistake or part of a strategy but, the logo still isn’t back on the site. We’ll keep you posted in case we have official statements. Let’s hope that if they do decide to work together again, the name becomes a bit less ridiculous.

We have new details about the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 launch event

Now as for some sad possible updates from the pandemic, well, Samsung usually hosts two major Unpacked Events each year for their flagship releases but. I’m actually shocked we still got the February Unpacked. Thing is, for obvious reasons this year will be different. According to a report from South Korea, Samsung has already taken their decision and this will be the first time ever that the company is releasing a flagship online. We get tons of silent releases online from Samsung but they will obviously have some sort of event for the Note’s Unpacked. The event is still slated for August but we don’t have any specific dates yet. Some other products we might get at this event include obviously the Galaxy Note 20, the Galaxy Fold 2 and some wearables.

Samsung Galaxy S21 could arrive with Chinese OLED displays

A couple of weeks ago we reported that Samsung could be ditching Samsung Display for the Galaxy S21 but, not entirely. According to some industry insiders, after a month of preliminary negotiations, Samsung just sent an official request for quotation to BOE which hints to the deal happening and also the fact that they are already working on the S21. Now, it isn’t clear if we’ll be getting a Galaxy S21 Ultra but, that one wouldn’t be using a BOE display because these orders are for 90Hz displays. They have also sent a quotation request to Samsung Display for 60Hz and 120Hz displays so, they aren’t leaving them completely. According to other insiders, Samsung is trying to get Samsung Display to lower the price on the panels and the threat of having BOE replace them might work.

Story of the day:

More rumors say that the Google Pixel 5 will have a mid-range processor

And finally, let’s call this the most interesting news today. I mean, Pixels have taken the spotlight for weeks now, though I wish they would sell as much as people care about the news. Thing is we’ve been getting several rumors that the Google Pixel 5 might not be a flagship. Yesterday we covered the fact that a Google survey showed that this phone might cost as low as $699. Now, XDA has found some new evidence in the Android 11 Developer Preview that hint to the Pixel 5 bringing the Snapdragon 765G processor. It isn’t clear if it will be the 765G or the new 768G but it is compatible to what they found in the new Google Camera APK for upcoming Pixel phones. The price tag also hints that this phone might not bring a Snapdragon 865 after all.
