That long overdue NVIDIA Shield Tablet sequel is apparently cancelled for ‘business reasons’

Anyone remember when Tegra SoCs powered such varied and popular devices as the Motorola Atrix 4G, OG Nexus 7, Microsoft Surface and Surface 2, HTC One X and One X+? Those were the times for NVIDIA, which then inexplicably lost the battle for smartphone and tablet processor supremacy with Qualcomm, also failing to compete against the likes of MediaTek on affordability.Nowadays, you can count on the fingers of one hand the semi-relevant commercial products packing Tegra K1 or X1 punch: the homebrewed NVIDIA Shield Tablet, ...

It’s not every day that you see an Android tablet manufacturer unveil basically the same exact product as a year before, just with a slightly tweaked name, lower price and no bundled-in accessories. NVIDIA Shield Android TV further slashed to $150 for Black Friday, remote included

Just because NVIDIA jumped the gun with what looked like an early Black Friday deal on the Shield Android TV set-top box last week, it doesn’t mean the gaming pro can’t up the bargain ante between November 26 and 28.Thursday through Saturday therefore, you can grab the microconsole for even less directly from the Santa Clara-based device manufacturer, as well as Best Buy, GameStop, Micro Center, and Fry’s Electronics. What does this less mean? NVIDIA Shield Android TV box gets much better with update

NVIDIA hasn’t necessarily had the fame its fought for in the smartphone and tablet space, which is rather sad since the days of the Tegra 3 disappointments are long gone. As a result the company has branched out to create its own hardware in order to showcase its capabilities, and some of these products are rather cool and unique. One of these is the NVIDIA Shield Android TV box, which was launched back in May, and that just received a major update. One of the major improvements with the update is ...

NVIDIA’s got another hardware recall to deal with: Shield Pro Android TV box

Does bad luck exist? A rational mind would think not, but considering all the missteps NVIDIA’s been dealing with lately, it’s easy to see how you might be tempted to believe otherwise. First we  saw major OEMs lose their taste for Tegra-series SoCs, then NVIDIA’s own hardware suffered the public embarrassment of a recall, as certain Shield Tablet models were identified as posing a fire risk due to faulty batteries. Lest you think that was all in NVIDIA’s past, now the ...

NVIDIA Shield set-top box scores coveted Google Store placement

Head on over to the online Google Store, and you’ll find devices like the Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Chromecast, and Nexus Player, all up for sale. While that makes the site the go-to stop for Google’s own hardware, there are a few third-party devices that still manage to score this kind of exposure: things like the Razer Forge Android TV bundle. Now we’re seeing another manufacturer of Android TV hardware get its device added to the highly selective list of Google Store merchandise, as NVIDIA brings ...

Nvidia Shield update rolling out with auto-rotate fixes and more

One of the more surprising device launches of last year was of Nvidia’s Shield handheld, an Android-powered mini console with a host of nifty Nvidia utilities. We, along with many others, felt the device grow on us with the passage of time, so we’re glad to see support for the device is still top-notch, as evidenced by today’s Nvidia Shield update bringing with it some bugfixes. The update comes in at a beefy 480MB, quite large for an update of this caliber, but all of these fixes are very much welcome – those screen rotation issues and the disappearing Twitch icon ...
