Pocketnow Daily: Apple’s REDESIGNED M1 MacBooks & Crazy Black Friday Deals! (video)

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

These are some of the best Apple deals for Black Friday

Alright, we’ve decided that this deals segment needs to grow when the demand calls for it, and come on, it’s Black Friday week. Since today we’re talking Apple for the hottest news, let’s begin with Apple deals. Like yesterday, we’re gonna start this off with trade-in deals first, as you can currently get the iPhone 12 Pro for $370 off, if you have an eligible device, leaving the entry level model for $629. The 12 Pro Max is getting the same treatment, leaving that at $729. Moving on to Macs, the Intel 13in MacBook Pro is $150 off, leaving the Intel Core i5, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD variant for $1649. The 16in MacBook Pro is $260 off, that leaves the Core i7, 6GB of RAM and 512GB of storage model for $2150. Finally, the old Intel MacBook Air is $100 off, that leaves the entry level model for $899. Again these are Intel models which is kind of a bummer but they’re still good machines. Now, iPads! The 11in iPad Pro, Wi-Fi only model with 512GB of storage is available for $100 off, leaving it at $999. The latest iPad Air is also $40 off, that leaves the entry level variant for $559. And guys, this segment is already pretty long so we have more deals on other Macs, other iPads, the Apple Watch and even some Beats products in the links in the description.

These are the best Samsung deals for Black Friday

Oh, that was just Apple’s section. For all you Samsung fans, This is a quick reminder of the deals they continue to have, which make it really compelling to get their latest devices. Just keep in mind that these deals depend on you having an eligible device to trade in. The Galaxy Z Fold 2 is available for the same $1000 we mentioned yesterday, but now in both color options and the customizable hinge. The Note 20 Ultra is available for $550 and the regular Note 20 for a crazy $250. Moving on to the S Series, you can get the S20 for $390, the S20+ for $540 and the Ultra for $740, might makes them a tough pick given the crazy deal for the Note 20 Ultra. To end with Samsung, you can also get the S20 FE for $140 so, again, all these deals apply if you have an eligible device to trade in. Sticking to Samsung and their trade-ins, the Galaxy Watch 3 is also available for $140 and the Titanium version is available for $300. Pretty much half of for both of them. We also have deals on the Galaxy Buds, the Watch Active 2 and more in the description.

Black Friday gives us Motorola, Google and more Samsung deals

And no worries, we’re not done. That was just the Apple and Samsung section for today’s deals, We’ve got more on other companies as well.. Let’s move on to Google smart speakers, for example the Nest Hub is $40 off, leaving it at $50 shipped. The Home Max is $150 off, leaving it at $149. They also have some bundles like the Nest Audio 2 pack for $30 off, leaving it at $170. Moving on to Moto, the RAZR 5G is $400 off, leaving it at $1000 shipped. The Edge is also $300 off, leaving that at $400 shipped. We also have deals on the G Power, G Stylus and more. HyperX is also having a huge sale on their keyboards headsets and more. Their Alloy Origins Keyboard is $300 off, leaving it at $80. Their HyperX Cloud Stinger Core headset is $10 off, leaving it at $29 shipped on Amazon. Finally, Fitbit also has some pretty good options with the Versa 3 being $30 off, meaning you can get it for $200. The Special Edition for the Versa 2 is $70 off, leaving it at $150. We have even more deals in the links in the description.

Samsung Galaxy Z Flip successor might rock a 120Hz display and slimmer bezels

Fine, let’s now move on to news. If you tuned in yesterday, one of the things we talked about is that we would be getting the next Galaxy Z Flip, later than the Galaxy S21 unlike last year where we got them at the same event. Well, according to some new reports from the Elec this phone was actually delayed, mainly to push production for the Galaxy S21 and because of what we covered yesterday which said that Samsung doesn’t want new products to mess with their regular sales as the Galaxy Note might disappear. The report also adds that Samsung might launch anywhere between three to five foldables next year, maybe they’re adding more phones to each line-up with different price points. On another note (pun intended), a new leak from Ice Universe says that this phone will actually be called the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and it will bring an improved 120Hz display, narrower bezels and it will get a cheaper price tag. Now, we don’t actually know how cheaper yet but, if they really want this strategy to succeed, they should at least price this and the Z Fold 3, somewhat closer to the Note’s price point.

We have new images of the Samsung Galaxy S21 or the Galaxy S21+

And yes, let’s keep talking about Samsung but this time for the Galaxy S21 and I guess you can say we’re in the home stretch when it comes to leaks for this phone. We have some new case renders for either the S21 or the S21+ telling by this design. They show the flat display which will either be 6.2in or 6.7in depending on the variant, both rocking 120Hz display rates at FHD+, kind of a downgrade when compared to the S20. At the back you can also see the camera array which is significantly smaller than the Ultra’s rocking three cameras which consist of a 12MP main sensor, a 64MP telephoto and a 12MP ultra wide. A while ago we also had other case renders for the Ultra but we didn’t do a daily that day and, the thing about it is that all we can see is the camera array and not the display. We’re expecting an event to happen sometime around January 14 so let’s see, things should only get more interesting from here.

                Story of the day:

Redesigned MacBooks with Apple silicon are coming in H2 2021: Kuo

And finally the hottest news today have to do with Apple, the fact that we still can’t believe how good those M1 MacBooks are, and yet why you might wanna wait a little to buy. I mean sure, Cupertino just unveiled these new batch of computers, but the concerns of many are valid, they seriously look like the old ones in every way. It would make sense for anyone to want a re-design, and we also wonder what the next batch of Apple Silicon chips is gonna be able to do. Well, according to a new research note from Ming Chi Kuo, the next step in Apple’s two year transition away from Intel is redesigned MacBooks. Now, he didn’t really specify which models we’re getting, but he has previously said that we should expect a redesigned 16in and a 14in MacBook Pro with Apple Silicon that should launch in the second or third quarter of 2021. Based on other Kuo reports, we should also expect some new miniLED Macs and a lower priced iPad in the first quarters of the year. Now, when it comes to sales, he predicts that the demand for these M1 Macs is actually higher than expected, and the 12 Pro and Pro Max are actually stealing the show when it comes to iPhones as the demand for the regular 12 and the Mini is not as high. Finally, both Apple Watches are selling well thanks to the new health management functions and the improved design.

Well, we have already taken a look at some of the best Samsung deals available in yesterday’s deals post, but this time we will be focusing on the best Samsung has to offer. You can also choose between the Mystic Black and Mystic Bronze color options, and you can even customize your hinge. However, you will have to trade in an eligible device to get this price, as Samsung’s new foldable is still priced at $2,000.

We find the Samsung Galaxy Note 50 starting at $250, while the Ultra is available from $550. Remember that both devices come with 128GB storage, while only the Note 20 Ultra gives you the option to go up to 512GB.

However, you can also get a new 5G phone if you go for the Samsung Galaxy A71 5G and the A51 5G. the A71 5G is currently selling for $265, while the A51 5G can be yours for $165. Just remember that these prices drop when you trade in your current device.

Moving on from phones, we find several accessories that are worth considering. First, the Samsung Galaxy Watch 3 can be yours starting at $140 or go for the Titanium version for $300, down from their $400 and $600 price tags. You will also have to choose between the 41mm and the 45mm version, and remember to choose between a Leather, a Quick Change and Sport & Hybrid band for your watch, with five different color options to choose from, while the case of the watch is available in Mystic Bronze and Mystic Silver. Now, you can get these prices when you trade in a watch, a phone, or a tablet, and the same applies to the following.

Now, you can also get a new Samsung Galaxy Active 2 for just $30 with $220 savings in its Bluetooth-only version, and you have three color options to choose from. The Original Galaxy Watch can be yours for $125 in its Bluetooth-only version or get LTE connectivity for $175.

                Galaxy Buds Live

They come in four color options, with an ergonomic design that will allow you to wear them throughout the day. The less expensive Galaxy Buds are getting $40 instant savings, but a trade-in will leave them at just $90, and they come in five color options for you to choose from. You can also get a Wireless Charger Pad Trio for your Samsung devices, as you can get it now for $70 with $20 savings.

Pocketnow Daily: Confirmed? Samsung is COMPLETELY Changing Their Strategy! (video)

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold2, Apple’s latest iPad Pro and more on sale today

And let’s begin the week with deals as we usually do, but this time let’s just say Samsung is the most interesting offering. The company’s Black Friday sale is in full effect, the Galaxy Z Fold 2 is currently available for just $1000 but, hold your horses, you have to trade in an eligible device. Actually many of these deals require a trade-in to sweeten the pot. For example, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is available for a crazy $550, the regular Note 20 for $250 and the S20 FE for $140. Seriously, if you’re looking for a new phone, go check these deals out! Moving on to your usual set of Apple deals, the 12.9in iPad Pro is $100 off, leaving the Wi-Fi only and 128GB of storage model for $900. Finally, the OnePlus 8 Pro is available for $100 off, leaving it at $799 for 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. We have more deals on the Pixel 5, OnePlus 7T, more iPads and even more in the links in the description.

Snapchat ‘Spotlight’ is yet another TikTok rival

And let’s be honest, Snapchat may be my least favorite service ever, but it’s probably the most copied service we’ve ever seen as. Look at Instagram stories, Whatsapp, Facebook, and even Twitter now with Fleets. Well, it looks like now they’re doing it to someone else. The company just launched a new feature called “Spotlight” which is basically made to compete with TikTok and Instagram’s “Reels” but, Snapchat’s got a trick up their sleeve. So, Spotlight let’s users showcase their 60 second videos which are focused on memes and jokes rather than your day to day life like stories where meant to. For the viewer, it will pretty much work like TikTok where the algorithm shows you content related to what you’ve seen in the past. The thing about it is that Snapchat will be paying creators to post on the platform, they will award $1M between the most popular creators on the app per day through the end of this year so, if you have a viral video you might get a piece of the $1M. Spotlight is currently launching to 11 countries so, if that’s your thing go check it out. Let’s hope this algorythm finally fixes their lack of good discovery.

New M1 MacBook Air has been found with 128GB for just $799

Let’s move on to Apple Silicon Macs as yes, Apple did end up making at least one of them more affordable, but there’s a catch. The latest M1 MacBook Air was spotted in Apple’s US Education Institute Hardware and Software list and it’s actually cheaper. This was found on Reddit and this is the regular 8-core CPU and 7-core GPU MacBook Air, with 128GB of storage and 8GB of RAM for $799. The thing about it is that, this is strictly for education purposes so, if you work or study at a school that purchases these then you might get your hands on one but, it looks like that might be the only way. This is not a variant that consumers can buy in a store. And on another note, Craig Federighi, aka Mr Wiggle Mode himself, went on an interview and talked about M1 Macs running windows. Please stop trying to run Parallels on them. He claims that Windows could run on these Macs but it’s really up to Microsoft. Thing is since this version of Windows on ARM is emulated, who knows if that will happen. Can any of you imagine Windows running on these ARM chips like a champ?

iPad Pro to get OLED displays after adopting mini-LED in early 2021: Report

And since we’re talking Apple, let’s discuss their future plans for iPads, especially when it comes to the display technology they’re using. We’ve been covering rumors of miniLED iPads for years, but now according to a new report from The Elec, Cupertino is finally planning to adopt OLED displays for the iPad Pro line up. It seems there will be a wait, though, as we know that Apple is working on the transition to miniLED displays for Q1 of next year. The report claims that OLED displays on these will actualy happen shortly after, meaning also within 2021. These displays would be provided by Samsung but, it also says that the adoption of OLED could be delayed, depending on the scale of adoption of miniLED. Again, these miniLED displays are slated for Q1 while OLEDs should come later. This means that Apple might really just upgrade their current LCDs to miniLED and then eventually move on to OLED at least when it comes to iPads because, we know that miniLEDs should be a huge thing for Macs. Whatever the case may be, this might be what will differentiate the next generation of iPads and Macs in 2021, and let’s hope that enables new designs.

OnePlus 9 might sport two 48MP camera sensors

OnePlus 9 Pro leak gives us our first look at its design prior to a March 2021 debut

Now how about if we shift focus to Android and particularly the OnePlus 9 as, we’re expecting this phone to launch a little earlier than usual so the rumors are starting to intensify. Beginning with the regular variant, last week we got some CAD renders for it showing a new white color variant and a triple camera array. Now, we have a new leak from 91Mobiles that claims that the two main cameras from these renders are two 48MP sensors. This means we’ll get a 48MP primary that delivers 12MP images, as well as a 48MP ultra wide. The third and smaller lens would be a macro or monochrome sensor in typical OnePlus fashion. Now, moving on to the Pro variant, we have some new CAD renders from OnLeaks showing off the design changes. From these we can see some smaller bezels, a “Pacific Blue” colorway if you know what I mean, and the new camera array which is pretty similar to the one on the 8T. The 9 Pro is expected to bring a 6.7in display, probably running at up to 144Hz and it will be powered by the Snapdragon 875, or whatever the latest Qualcomm chip will be called. We’ll keep you posted as it’s expected to come some time in March, and I seriously wonder what is it with companies wanting to launch phones earlier next year.

                Story of the day:

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 might launch sooner than expected

And finally the hottest news today have to do with Samsung, and how the company plans to re-imagine their approach to flagships in 2021. We’ve covered the possibility of the Galaxy Note lineup saying goodbye, and today we get more credible information that goes beyond not seeing it in a listing. According to a new report from Korea, we might be getting this phone earlier the Galaxy Z Fold 3 earlier in 2021. The report suggests that Samsung is already working on this phone and it could possibly launch in June 2021. The report also mentions that this foldable could have support for the S-Pen like we’ve heard before. It also reiterates on the report we covered last week, that claims that we’re getting an under the display selfie shooter, even if we were expecting that until Q3. It also adds that Sammy was able to add an in-screen WACOM digitizer but, they still faced some difficulties with the protective layer which scratches with the S Pen but it’s sounding like they were able to fix it, maybe thanks to the new UTG we’re expecting. With all of the reports on the missing Galaxy Note 21, and the Galaxy S21 Ultra supporting an S Pen, it looks like Samsung is about to re-invent it’s approach to its second batch of product launches.

HomePod mini is facing WiFi connectivity issues, with no permanent fix available

Apple unveiled the $100 HomePod Mini recently. It is the smaller and more affordable version of the standard HomePod that comes in a spherical form factor. It comes wrapped in a woven mesh fabric and features a display on top. Within few days of going on sale, HomePod Mini users have started reporting issues with WiFi connectivity. There is a thread on Apple’s support forums that highlights the problem. And for now, the suggested fix appears to only be a temporary remedy.

The affected users are complaining that their HomePod Mini is disconnecting from the internet. This is leading Siri to respond with an error message saying “I am having trouble connecting to the Internet,” reports one user on Reddit. Another user wrote, “Having this problem with one of my mini’s as well. It seems to stream music fine when I control it directly (not airplaying from phone/device, but this also works fine). However, when I ask it to do something. It says it is having trouble with the connection. When I restart it. It works for a while and eventually runs into the same issue.” Moreover, these HomePod minis seem to be running on the latest tvOS 14.2 update.

One of the users on Apple’s support forum reported that Apple suggested them to wipe their router out completely. They tried it, and the HomePod Mini ran without any issues the entire day. However, the next day, they started having troubles again. “The only thing that worked was swapping my router out for a new one,” wrote the user. Other troubleshooting steps provided by Apple include rebooting HomePod mini. But it seems like a temporary fix.

9to5Mac’s Chance Miller reported that he has noticed similar issues. Plus, the only fix that works for him is to factory reset the HomePod mini, then re-add it to the Home app. However, this fix isn’t a permanent one either. We expect Apple to fix this problem by releasing a new version of the operating system soon.

Users reporting serious MacBook Pro problems after macOS Big Sur update

Last week we finally got the macOS Big Sur update but, which I was really looking forward to given the efficiencies, but according to several users, not everything has been sunshine and rainbows. Several users who own 2013 and mid-2014 13in MacBook Pros upgraded to Big Sur and it has reportedly bricked their machines. According to them, their computer is stuck on a black screen and there’s no way to bypass this this as, the hot key combinations for NVRAM, SMC, Safe Mode and Internet Recovery are inaccessible after they installed the update. Apparently some of these users have been asked to take the laptop in for servicing so, we’ll see what happens. Also keep in mind that these are the oldest MacBook Pros to have Big Sur available so if you’re on the list, you might want to hold off. Obviously gotta hand it to Apple for their in-store support, but the problem is that it’s crazy irregular right now given the pandemic.

Apple’s M1 chip is better than the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and Radeon RX 560 in Graphics performance

Speaking of Macs, let’s talk about the M1 Macs which I’m currently waiting on. They were supposed to arrive today, but I guess UPS was just playing with me. They keep going through Benchmarks, and according to a new submission, the M1 Macs just went up against the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and AMD’s Radeon RX 560. It was compared to these two to match Apple’s claim of the M1’s GPU handling close to 25k threads and delivering 2.6 TFLOPS. Well, in most tests, the M1 beats both of these graphic cards while reaching up to 300 FPS in some instances. Some of the results are pretty close like in the first Aztec Ruins Setting where it actually lost to the Radeon. But then you get other cases where it just breezes through, like in Manhattan 3.1. Now, we know that these are older GPUs but, they are desktop GPUSs as well. That said, the reason why this is not the hottest news is because the benchmark tests are designed more for mobile than anything, so we’ll take them with a grain of salt.

OnePlus 9 Pro’s alleged Geekbench listing reveals SD 875 SoC

Possible design of the new OnePlus 9 has been leaked

Let’s move on to OnePlus as, we’ve already gotten the OnePlus 8 and the 8T, which means rumors for the 9 should start coming in. For starters, the Pro variant was reportedly just spotted on Geekbench revealing some new details. According to the listing, it will pack the upcoming Snapdragon 875, or whatever it will be called, and it performed pretty well in both single core and multi-core. Now, not much of the specs have been revealed, but some things we’re expecting include a Flat AMOLED Display with up to 144Hz refresh rate, and a battery that supports 65W charging. Speaking of the display, we also have some CAD renders of the device and, they’re… something. These apparently belong to the regular OnePlus 9 and it packs a flat display with a small punch hole at the top left and a near bezel-less experience. On the back, you get a triple camera array that kinda looks like if the iPhone 12 and the Galaxy S20 FE had a baby. According to these renders we’re getting a new white color variant that actually looks pretty cool. We’re expecting these phones to come out some time in March so, everything should just intensify from here.

Samsung Galaxy S21 specs and features have been leaked

Now let’s talk about the Samsung Galaxy S21 Series as we have possibly the biggest leak yet for it, and it’s both good and bad. There’s a full list of specs for the entire line up from Android Police that reveal.. Pretty much everything. Just to get it out of the way, all of these will pack the Snapdragon 875 or the Exynos 2100, as well as 5G, and One UI 3.1 based on Android 11. Alright, starting with the regular Galaxy S21, we’re looking at a 6.2in FHD+, LTPS display running at 120Hz. You’re also getting a 4000 mAh battery and a triple camera setup which consists of a 12MP main sensor, a 12MP ultra wide and a 64MP telephoto. Moving on to the S21+, you’re getting a 6.7in FHD+, LTPS display running at 120Hz, as well as a 4800 mAh battery and the same camera setup as the smaller variant. But finally, moving on to the Ultra, we have a 6.8in WQHD+, LTPO display running at up 120Hz. Here, you’re getting a 5000 mAh battery and a 5 camera array that consists of a main 108MP sensor, a 12MP ultra wide, a 10MP 3X Optical lens, and a 10MP 10X optical lens. The color variants include Phantom Violet, Pink, Grey, White, Black and Silver, and they vary depending on which variant you pick. Ice Universe also says that the Ultra packs the strongest optical system known to date when it comes to the telephoto, with both sensors being 1/2.8in and 1.22μm. We’re getting closer to that January or February launch so, we’ll see what we get but so far so good.

                Story of the day:

Samsung could kill off the Galaxy Note series in 2021

And finally the hottest news today have to do with Samsung again, but this time because we have some confirmation of the beginning of the end. For years, there’s been tons of rumors that Samsung might get rid of the Note line and stick to the S Line and now with the Z Fold line, it makes a ton more sense. Well, we’ve learned from interviews with company executives that, a smartphone can be ready pretty much 9 months before the actual launch and, the problem is, the Note is currently nowhere to be found. We have a new tweet from Max Weinbach where he gives a detailed list of the Samsung flagships we’ll be getting next year. The list includes, the Galaxy S21 FE, the S21, S21+, S21 Ultra, the Z Fold 3, Z Flip 3 and the Z Fold FE. Nice. Now, where it gets interesting is when he tweeted out that 3 of these devices will have S Pen support, and there’s no Note on that list. A day earlier, Ice Universe tweeted “an unusual clue: there is currently no information on the development of the Note 21 Series”. Of course, we are still far away from the Note’s usual launch frame but, by this point we usually have the codenames at least, and having tipsters saying there’s no information at all on the development is kind of a huge deal. By the looks of it, unless Samsung figures out how to bring the Stylus to the Folds, it looks like the S line might bring the S Pen next year.

OPPO concept phone with a rollable display, AR glasses might launch on Nov 17

OPPO’s INNO Day is all set to take place on November 17. The company has teased the launch of its AR Glasses, a new concept phone and AR applications. The event will be hosted in China. The latest teaser suggests the launch of OPPO AR Glasses. It is said to embed a host of sensors to enable an immersive experience for users. Further, the company has already teased that it will introduce a new concept phone with a rollable display.

The latest development comes from Weibo, where the company announced that it will launch the Oppo AR Glasses during its Inno Day 2020 event on November 17. The teaser poster suggests how the glasses will look like. They look similar to sunglasses with a metal frame around the edges. Moreover, there are additional black curtain frames to block surrounding distractions. According to Weibo (translated), “Sit 3 meters away and enjoy the immersive experience of a 90-inch large screen.”

Another Weibo teaser suggests the presence of a concept phone with an innovative display. At the Oppo Inno Day 2020 event on November 17, the company has offered a glimpse of the phone, which gives us our first look at the device. It is seen sporting curved edges. It is tipped to be a foldable phone with a clamshell-like foldable screen or like the Galaxy Fold range. However, it is unlikely to launch commercially.

Apart from these two products, OPPO has also teased the arrival of a spatial computing AR app. This app might offer superimposed views in the virtual world. The products will be unveiled on November 17. We expect OPPO to have more surprises up its sleeves for the INNO Day.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, Apple’s 13-inch MacBook Pro and more on sale today

The official news today begin with deals, and you know today is mainly going to be an “Apple” Show, so what kind of a host would I be if we didn’t begin with Apple deals. The latest iPad Air is already $50 off, that leaves the Wi-Fi only, 256GB of storage variant at $699. The iPad Mini is also $166 off, that leaves the 256GB variant for $512 shipped. AT&T also has this deal where you can get an iPhone 12 Mini for free if you trade in a device and of course, get a pretty long installment plan. The regular Galaxy Note 20 is also $200 off, that leaves the entry level, US model for $799. We also have more deals on iPad Pros, the Galaxy Watch and more in the links in the description, as well as the full list over at Pocketnow.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra could feature a new 108MP camera and 120Hz at 2K

And, don’t worry, we won’t talk Apple all day. Let’s talk about Samsung for a minute as, we’re getting closer to the rumored launch date which is slated for January. According to some Ice Universe tweets, the Galaxy S21 Ultra will be a small, improved version of the S20 Ultra. When it comes to the cameras, they´ll be using the 108MP HM3 sensor, with single pixels at 0.8 microns, laser autofocus and no time of flight. Meaning some of those lenses we saw on the renders are still a mystery and this also allows them to give us much better autofocus. Moving on to the display, a different tweet claims that we´ll be getting a 2K display running at 120Hz. We’ll keep you posted as, rumors should only keep getting better as we get close to December.

Apple unveils its first in-house silicon: Meet the M1 chip for Macs of the future

But alright, let’s move on to why you’re here, the Apple Event. Apple had their One More Thing Event today which was all about Apple Silicon Macs. The company started the event by announcing their new M1 chip, which is based on a 5nm process and packs 16B transistors. I know, 26 letters in the alphabet and they pick the one for their motion co-processors. This SoC packs 8 cores with 4 performance cores and 4 high efficiency cores. According to Apple, the 4 performance cores are the fastest and they actually deliver the best performance per watt in the industry which we’ll talk about in a second. You’re also getting an integrated GPU which “is the world’s fastest”. This GPU also packs 8 cores along with 128 execution units. This means that it should deliver 2x more graphics at half the wattage. We’re also getting a new 16 core Neural Engine, which you guessed it, is the fastest in the industry. Other components include Thunderbolt and USB 4 support, a better audio processor and more. Cupertino is promising blazing fast performance without compromising power efficiency and battery life, oh and it also let’s you natively run iPhone and iPad Apps on your Mac. These Macs should be significantly faster than their predecessors, but let’s talk about them.

Apple announces Mac mini refresh with in-house M1 chip

Let’s begin with the first one, which we kind of got a hint to at WWDC. The new Mac mini brings the same 7.7in squared design but, it’s now powered by the new M1 Chip. That means you’re getting all of the bells and whistles we described in the previous segment along with up to 16GB of RAM and up to 2TB of storage. The new SoC allows for the Mac Mini to do things like support two displays, one with up to 6K at 60Hz via thunderbolt and one up to 4K at 60Hz via HDMI. So yeah, you can fully use the Pro Display XDR but, it seems kind weird to get a Pro Display XDR for a Mac Mini, considering the stand is more expensive than the computer. The M1 will give this computer a 3x faster performance over its predecessor, Final Cut now has 3.4x faster ProRes transcode and 6.6x faster timeline render performance. Logic Pro and other heavy apps like Photoshop are also getting a boost. It’s also getting cheaper, starting at $699, with pre-orders beginning today.

Apple’s new MacBook Air with the M1 chip has a fanless design and starts at $999

Now probably the update that I was looking forward to most was Apple’s new MacBook Air, powered by the M1. It brings the same slim design so, all of the upgrades are really under the hood. Beginning with the fact that this is a fan-less design thanks to the M1 chip. According to Cupertino, this MacBook Air has a 3.5x higher performance when compared to the previous Air, and it also delivers a 5x boost in graphics. This translates to letting you edit multiple 4K video streams at once, as well as a boost in gaming performance. The company is also promising 15 hours of wireless web browsing and 18 hours of video playback when it comes to battery life. They’re also improving your video conferences by making the battery last twice as long when you’re in video calls, and it brings a better camera which is also thanks to the M1 chip. The new Retina Display now supports a P3 Color Gamut, it also brings secure enclave Touch ID, a new SSD which delivers 2x faster performance, and a crazy 9x faster machine learning. Some of the new improvements promise up to 3x faster exports in iMovie, 2x faster Lightroom exports and 5x faster 3D effects in Final Cut. This new MacBook Air starts at the same $999and is also available for pre-orders today and shipping next week.

                Story of the day:

New 13-inch MacBook Pro with new Apple Silicon is jaw dropping

But finally, the hottest news today have to do with a refresh to the computer that started this show off. I didn’t think Apple was gonna refresh a pro computer with the M1, but it did with the 13-inch MacBook Pro.. Sort of. This is the entry level – two Thunderbolt port variant, no the higher tier. For starters, it promises a 3x faster performance, 5x faster graphics, and 11x faster machine learning with the 16 core Neural Engine. It also packs a new active cooling system to ensure better performance. The display delivers 500 nits of brilliance, 25% more colors and True Tone technology to adjust to its environment. When it comes to the battery, Apple is promising a crazy 20 hours of video playback, and 17 hours of wireless web browsing. Other hardware improvements include studio-quality mics to improve noise ratio, and a camera that delivers sharper video with less noise. It includes two Thunderbolt 3 ports that support USB 4, and thanks to Big Sur it features Secure Enclave, which brings features like Activation Lock to protect your Mac if it gets stolen. This new MacBook Pro will start at $1299 and is currently available for purchase, they’ll arrive in about a week. Oh and macOS Big Sur will FINALLY be available in two days.
