Microsoft successfully concludes Swiftkey acquisition, stays mum on price

Well, that sure didn’t take long. It was only a month ago that the first rumors of Microsoft’s interest in snagging Swiftkey emerged, with Redmond confirming the story mere hours after it broke, and already, the acquisition is completed. The mutually beneficial news was unveiled with surprisingly little fanfare by MS Executive Vice President Harry Shum on Twitter, and the financial details remain under wraps. Officially, that is, because off the record, we’ve heard Satya Nadella & co. were prepared to pay around ...

Samsung calls on Knox to address keyboard security risk

Yesterday we learned about a potentially nasty situation brewing with the software on many Samsung Androids, as a vulnerability discovered in the SwiftKey-designed keyboard such phones shipped with could present an attacker with the opportunity to sneak some malicious code onto the handsets. And despite the security researchers having notified Samsung late last year, it wasn’t clear just which, if any phones had been patched to address the issue. We asked Samsung just what was going on in its ...

OnePlus One bundles-in SwiftKey with latest software update

Right now, there are two big software releases we’re looking forward to on the OnePlus One. First, there’s the debut of the company’s own OxygenOS release, intended as a replacement platform following the falling-out with Cyanogen – and earlier this week, we checked out some leaked images that might just be this software. And then there’s the anticipated CyanogenMod 12S (for those countries where Cyanogen hasn’t signed exclusive deals with other OEMs), the Lollipop-based ...

SwiftKey update brings enhancements, new languages, more themes

Back in early June, SwiftKey announced a pretty substantial change to its business model, making its keyboard free to download from the Play Store, and earning its money through the sale of add-on themes. Today it’s got more good news for its users, announcing a pretty decent update to the app, the arrival of new themes, and the start of a theme sale.Let’s dive right in to the changes arriving with this update. There is no excuse for a subpar keyboard in 2014

As a long-time proponent of BlackBerrys, I was particularly adverse to the idea of soft keyboards back in 2009. I had gotten so used to the renowned BlackBerry keyboard that I was skeptical I – or anyone else, for that matter – would ever be able to type as efficiently as one could on a pocket-sized physical keyboard, especially those on BlackBerry handsets.I’m not sure I’m getting my point across. I really liked BlackBerrys, its physical keyboards, and hated practically everything ...

SwiftKey goes free-to-use as version 5.0 arrives

SwiftKey’s easily one of the more popular alternative keyboards around, and there have been plenty of ways to get access to it. You could participate in a public beta, check out the free version of the app, or pony up and pay for the premium edition. And really, considering all it offers, including its powerful word prediction engine, the four bucks that premium version demanded seemed like a small price to pay. But now SwiftKey is taking a page ...

Swiftkey launched for iOS, but as a Notes application

Swifkey is probably one of the best inventions to ever reach the Android ecosystem. It’s not only one of the smartest and better looking keyboards in the Play Store, but for those of us that live abroad, it makes it extremely easy to handle multi-lingual typing over the same UI, with no need for a language-switch button. We all heard the rumors of the service reaching iOS to some extent, and that’s now a reality. Say hello to Swiftkey Note, the company’s new app for iOS. Sadly, as opposed to Android where you get a full keyboard replacement, Swiftkey is a just a Notes ...
