watchOS 3, iOS 10 released, but take your time with it

In another day or two, we’ll probably have to publish a quick story about how fast iOS 10 is being adopted and the torrents of people finding major, iPhone- or iPhone-bricking problems with the update. We hope not to have to write the latter story, actually, but we expect to.Never mind all that, as the iOS 10 software package is available for using to download and install now, as is the watchOS 3 update. You can go to your ...

Pokemon GO on Android Wear is also coming

Pokemon Go comes to the Apple Watch, and a watchOS 3 reminder

Mobile and wrist gaming appears to be one of the recurring themes of Apple’s ongoing iPhone 7 announcement event, with Pokemon Go on its way to the “iWatch” presumably around the same time Mario will be debuting on iOS handhelds. Boy, this Nintendo alliance is sure paying massive dividends. The first-gen Apple Watch, as well as its sequel, will let you capture Poke-monsters directly from your wrist, not needing the synched-up iPhone to be whipped out of the pocket and interfere with your workout.By the way, Pokemon Go hunts will be logged as actual physical activity (which it is) by ...

Apple Watch 2 expected out ‘late’ this year, 2 million monthly shipments targeted

It’s all been quiet on the second-generation Apple Watch gossip front of late, and after a rumored March 2016 introduction of an incremental hardware upgrade proved false, the same predictably applied to far-fetched WWDC launch speculation. What the Developers Conference nonetheless brought to light was a massive overhaul of the ...

watchOS 3 Beta Hands-On: Major improvements

After two separate but very similar iterations of watchOS, Apple’s third launch expected this fall has proven to be a jump into true maturity. To be honest, before Apple announced watchOS 3 beta, my Apple Watch was sitting in a drawer. There user interface was sluggish, launch of apps was hit or miss, and a ton of the features simply made no sense, like a button dedicated for contacts only.watchOS 3 is a lot about bringing common sense to how a smartwatch should operate. The operating system has been optimized to help you keep your favorite apps in memory, provide these with background ...

Apple WWDC 2016 preview: what to expect (and not to expect)

It’s one thing to wish for a major imminent VR breakthrough from the world’s most profitable tech company, but it’s an entirely different kettle of fish to realistically expect Apple’s Daydream answer at the 2016 Worldwide Developers Conference next week.Let’s face it, it’s not going to happen. Not so soon, at least, and not at an event described as a “snoozefest” by our own Adam ...
