Google brings Waze Carpool pilot to San Francisco, but Uber has nothing to worry about

Not another barely legal so-called ridesharing service to stir the traditional taxi pot. Well, no, because off the bat, Google appears to be enforcing strict rules and regulations for the Waze Carpool program, consisting of a free Android and iOS Waze Rider app, to ensure its drivers aren’t tempted to quit their day jobs.In fact, this specifically targets people who use their personal automobiles first and foremost to get to and from work in the morning and evening, pairing them up to save everyone a little money, and support a “greener commute.”Only available across the greater San ...

New Waze warnings can help you from getting a speeding ticket

To say that the rise of smartphones as navigation aids has also served to reduce driver awareness may be a bit of an understatement; how many times have you tuned out passing street signs or exit markers, competent that your phone’s turn-by-turn app would finally speak up when it came time for you to take action? Whether or not this offloading of driver responsibility to apps is a good or bad thing is a discussion for another time, but today we’re learning about one new tool that seeks to keep drivers better informed of the road on which they travel, as

New Waze beta opens; what features could be in the works?

Google Maps gets real-time traffic updates, courtesy of Waze

As late spring started giving way to summer, we heard that social mapping service Waze was fielding offers for an acquisition, looking to offload itself to a bigger competitor. Following Google’s purchase, should I close my Waze account?

Several months ago Waze, the insanely popular GPS navigation company, was in the middle of negotiations over selling their company to the highest bidder. Facebook reportedly want to buy Waze for the social aspects of the company. Google apparently didn’t want Facebook to become a competitor in that industry, so the two companies got into a bidding war. What would this new partnership be called? Facebook Waze? Facebook Maps? Google Waze? Google Maps and Waze? As soon as the bidding started to heat up, I

The future of Waze may lay in the hands of Facebook or Google

In the States, yesterday was Memorial Day. It’s a day we spend remembering men and women who have given of their lives, times, and talents to fight for our Freedom and Liberties. It’s also a time where we honor our departed loved ones by visiting and decorating graves. In my family, it’s an annual tradition to gather at Grandma’s house, then trek to three cemeteries, cleaning headstones, placing flowers, remembering all the good times had together, and forging new memories as well. Memorial Day also represents a three-day weekend in which a great many people head ...
