HUAWEI Developer Conference 2020 starts on September 10, exciting announcements ahead

Huawei just announced that their Developer’s Conference will be happening this year on September 10th and going on until the 12th. Sure we’re expecting products like laptops, new smartwatches, their new FreeBuds Pro, and the possibility of a new chip that we usually see at IFA, though probably no smartphones. That said, I think what’s most important here is software. If you think of it this is their developer conference and a big chunk of the story will be their future with Android. How much the AppGallery will continue to expand to serve the needs of consumers that want to continue trusting the Huawei brand.. I mean, they still are the largest smartphone maker in the world as of last quarter. And then there’s the question about Harmony OS. Just a few days ago we discussed the rumors that the company wants to make a major push here as part of their strategy, even if Android is still in the picture. The keynote will happen on their website with Richard Yu talking about their ecosystem and other products, we’ll keep you posted. Not gonna lie, I’m curious to see what the next steps are. Expect our full coverage starting tonight, and a recap on tomorrow’s Pocketnow Daily.

Microsoft says Xbox Series X costs $499, reveals availability details of its next-gen consoles

Yesterday Microsoft showed us the Xbox Series S and well, we thought that was the only information we were getting from the company until later this year. Well that was not the case at all, they just gave us official pricing, availability dates and more. Earlier today the took to Twitter to announce that the Xbox Series X will cost $499, while the Series S will cost the $299 we mentioned yesterday. They will be available on November 10th but, pre-orders will start on September 22nd. They also announced that they will have an Xbox All Access financing plan which will let you pay $24.99 for the Series S and $34.99 for the Series X. Xbox All Access basically let’s you pay that set amount for the Xbox and 24 Months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which includes around 100 games.

We have new leaked renders of the LG Wing

We’re five days away from the official announcement of the LG Wing so, leaks keep coming. Now we got some high quality renders of the phone from Evan Blass showing stuff we hadn’t seen. In this render we can see the back of the phone which houses a camera array that kinda looks like the regular Galaxy Note 20 and a color variant that reminds us of the Galaxy S10. We can also see the phone in it’s “T-Pose” state but, in this particular image there seems to be some significant bezels between the two displays, we hope that doesn’t make it to the final product. The LG Wing is launching soon with the Snapdragon 765G and a price tag around the $1000 or $1600 mark.

Apple strikes back, Epic Games now being sued for breach of contract damages

A couple of days ago, we covered how it seemed that the whole Apple vs Epic dilemma was over, even with the lawsuit still going on. However, Epic wasn’t giving up and they were asking for an injunction to get Fortnite back in the App Store. Well, Apple just decided to make another Thanos-type move. Cupertino just filed some counter-claims, where they’re requesting damages for breach of contract and other counts. They’re trying to get all of the money that was collected by Fortnite through their separate payment system. Apple claims that Epic’s lawsuit is “nothing more than a basic disagreement over money”. They stated that “Even if Epic are portraying themselves as a corporate Robin Hood, in reality they are a multi-billion dollar company that simply want to pay nothing for the tremendous value they derive from the App Store. Their demands of special treatment and cries for retaliation cannot be reconciled by their breaching of contract and their own practices, as they have bundles of up to $100 for “VBucks”. We don’t know how much Apple is asking for in damages but Epic has apparently made $600M from the App Store. As for now, we have to wait until the September 28th hearing to see what’s next, unless we get some newer developments before that.

Motorola RAZR 5G brings an upgraded 48MP camera and faster Snapdragon 765G chip

And after months of leaks and rumors, the Moto RAZR 5G is finally here. It brings a 6.2in folding display along with a 2in cover display which the company is constantly updating for new tasks like replying to texts, getting directions, media controls and more . This new phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G, 8GB of RAM, 128GB of storage and a 2800 mAh battery paired with 15W of “Turbo Power” charging. On the camera department, we have a single 48MP main shooter that’s capable of doing 4K video at 30fps and 1080p slow-mo video at 240fps. It also brings a 20MP selfie shooter on the notch at the front. It runs on Android 10, supports sub-6GHz 5G. It’ll be available for $1399 on AT&T and T-Mobile and unlocked from multiple retailers later this fall on, Blush Gold, Liquid Mercury and Polished Graphite color variants.

Story of the day:

Live images of Google Pixel 5s have leaked online, adding to more confusion

Yeah, we have a very confusing leak of the Google Pixel 5 “s”? The leaked image comes from a Mexican Tech Radio Host on Twitter and he also shared a video of it but it’s private now. According to our friends over at XDA and the IMEI barcode, this is a Pixel 5, but it’s not entirely clear as to why it’s listed as the 5s on the device, but it’s not the first time that name has popped up either. On the image we can see the phone laying down, showing off the camera array and the display. It looks way too similar to the 4a, as probably the only difference is the size and the double cameras on this one. It also brings the fingerprint sensor at the back and the different Google logo shows that this is a pre-production unit. According to the leaks, we’ll be getting two different variants for this phone, one for sub-6GHz which will also be more affordable and another one for mmWave 5G which will apparently be the 5s. We’re expecting this phone to launch later this month or in October, with the Snapdragon 765G, a 6in OLED display running at 90Hz, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, no leaks on the price tag yet.

Microsoft says Xbox Series X costs $499, reveals availability details of its next-gen consoles

It’s been a wild 24 hours for Microsoft’s next-gen Xbox consoles. Following a leaked render and alleged pricing of the Xbox Series S, Microsoft quickly revealed the more affordable console, and soon confirmed a November 10 launch date via an official trailer. Now, the company has dropped another bombshell by announcing the pricing and availability details of both the Xbox Series X and the Xbox Series S consoles. Ready yet? Cool, let’s get into the details.

The Xbox Series X costs $499, while the Xbox Series S will set buyers back by $299. Pre-orders for both the consoles begin on September 22, while the global launch will happen on November 10. If you live in India, you’ll have to pay Rs. 34,990 (~ $476) for the Xbox Series S, while the Xbox Series X costs a bomb at Rs. 49,990 (~ $681). That’s a huge premium over what the new consoles cost in the US market, and I am royally miffed about it. But Microsoft is also offering another way to purchase the consoles that will appeal to gamers, and it is called Xbox All Access. So, what is that?

What is Xbox All Access?

Well, Xbox All Access offers you the Xbox Series X or its cheaper sibling as well as 24 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. With Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, you get more than 100 high-quality games to play on consoles as well as PC, including next-gen Optimized games. Additionally, Microsoft has announced that EA Play membership will also be thrown in as a freebie with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, which offers 60 of EA’s console and PC games like FIFA 20, Titanfall 2 and Need for Speed Heat, as well as titles from other well-known franchises such as Battlefield, Mass Effect, Skate, and The Sims.

Moreover, Microsoft is also bundling in xCloud with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate starting September 15, which means you can play over 100 console games from the cloud on your smartphone or tablet. So, here’s a quick breakdown of everything you get with Xbox All Access:

  • The console itself
  • Access to over 100 games in the Xbox Game Pass library that can be played on both console and PC
  • Free EA Play membership
  • Free xCloud access

You can find more details about Xbox All Access here.

How much you pay?

Xbox Series S will be up for grabs at $24.99 per month with the Xbox All Access financing plan, while the Xbox Series X runs slightly higher at $34.99 per month. Microsoft says Xbox All Access is available in 12 countries now and will be offered by outlets such as GameStop, Target, Walmart, Telstra and SK Telecom to name a few. Unfortunately, the list doesn’t include India, but Microsoft has plans to expand the availability of Xbox All Access to more countries in the foreseeable future.

B&H currently has the Intel Core i5, 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage for $200 off, leaving it at $1600. Now, if you want more storage, Amazon has that same $200 discount on the 1TB variant, leaving it at $1800 shipped. The Galaxy Tab S6 Lite is $50 off on both places as well, leaving it at $300 shipped. We also have deals on JBL speakers, earbuds and more in the links in the description.

Microsoft says the Xbox Series X console is launching in November

Keeping on with the official news, let’s talk about Microsoft and the Xbox Series X. Recently, Microsoft said that we should expect this console for the holidays but, now we have somewhat of a more accurate date. They just announced today that we’ll be getting this new console in November but, they didn’t provide a specific date. However, rumors hint to it being available in the first week of November unless we get more delays due to the pandemic. If you’re planning on buying it, Microsoft claims that there will be 100 titles optimized for the Series X once it launches, and the rumor mill also hints to a more affordable Series S making the cut but, that part is all pure speculation.

New images show the differences between the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 and its predecessor

Last week at Unpacked, Samsung’s “One More Thing” was the Galaxy Z Fold 2 but, they weren’t too explicit when it comes to specs and differences and, no one really has this phone yet as pre-orders start on September 1st. Probably the biggest upgrade is the outer display and now, some new images from Korea show us how much of an upgrade it really is. These new images show us a side-by-side comparison of display real-estate with the original Fold. The original outer display was a meager 4.6in and the new one is a massive upgrade to 6.2in. The main display also grew from 7.3in to 7.6in by getting rid of the notch. It also got thinner when closed by a couple of millimeters from each side. We can’t wait to see the device once it comes out.

Xiaomi’s Mi 10 Ultra packs a 120x zoom camera, 120Hz display and supports 120W charging

Xiaomi has just launched a transparent OLED TV. Yes, you read that right!

Let’s talk about Xiaomi for a second because, well the company just had a very interesting event for their 10th anniversary. For starters they just launched a full blown NineBot Lamborghini GoKart, yeah a GoKart. It will apparently sell in Malaysia and China for around $1500 and it has some pretty impressive specs when it comes to battery. Moving on, they launched a full blown Transparent TV, yeah you heard that right. It’s called the Mi TV LUX OLED Transparent Edition because, we love complicated names right? It’s a 55in OLED, running at 120Hz and powered by a MediaTek 9650 chip. It’ll cost you a cool $7200. Finally, they also launched the Mi 10 Ultra which packs a 6.67in display running at 120Hz, it is powered by the Snapdragon 865 along with a 4500 mAh battery that supports 120W fast charging. It also brings a quad camera array with a 48MP main sensor and a 120x hybrid zoom camera. This one will cost you around $760 and most of these products will be available on August 16th.

Google Pixel 5 with Snapdragon 765G SoC appears on AI-Benchmark website

Of course, it’s been a week since we got the Pixel 4a so, Pixel 5 leaks start to emerge. The Pixel 5 has apparently gone through AI-Benchmark, revealing some of the specs. We’ve heard a lot of speculation that this phone might not be a flagship after all and, these test results kinda go along with that. The benchmarks show that this phone will be powered by the mid-tier Snapdragon 765G, it’ll pack 8GB of RAM while running Android 11. As for the benchmarks, it scored lower than the Pixel 4 and 4 XL due to the processor but not by a significant margin which is not bad. It’s also expected to pack a 6.67in display running at 120Hz. We’ll apparently get it in October along with the Pixel 4a 5G.

Story of the day:

Apple may launch a new 4G-only iPhone 12 next year

We’ve heard some mixed rumors about the iPhone 12 so far, some people say we’ll be getting both LTE and 5G variants and then you got Ming Chi Kuo claiming we’ll only get 5G It makes sense for Apple to make an LTE variant since not all markets have 5G, like why tax them with a more expensive iPhone? Well a new research note from Business Insider claims that we will be getting at least one LTE variant.. Yes just one. It will be cheaper, but there’s a catch. It won’t happen this fall. See, according to them, we should expect multiple 5G iPhone 12’s this year, but the cheaper LTE variant will get a sort of iPhone SE treatment and wait until around February 2021. According to them, by cheaper we’re talking around an $800 mark, meaning that this could actually be a Pro variant. Apple apparently wants to appeal to a broader market by making the price tags more aggressive during this recession. We’re supposed to be getting 4 new iPhones this year, sometime around October or November, all of them being 5G variants.

Microsoft says the Xbox Series X console is launching in November

So far, the only launch window for the Xbox Series X known to the masses, in Microsoft’s words, has been the holiday season. That changes now, sort of. Microsoft has today announced that the Xbox Series X is launching in November. However, the company has still not revealed a specific launch date though.

But if rumors are to be believed, the Xbox Series X will most likely arrive in the first week of November, that is assuming the ongoing pandemic doesn’t affect the launch plans any further. We also don’t know if Microsoft will finally reveal some official information about the affordable (read: less powerful) ‘Lockhart’ console which might debut as the Xbox Series S.

Microsoft says that when the Xbox Series X finally arrives, players will be able to enjoy over 100 Optimized for Xbox Series X titles that will debut in 2020, and are tuned to take full advantage of the console’s powerful hardware. All that, in addition to titles spanning four generations of Xbox consoles, that will be at the disposal of Xbox Series X buyers.

Microsoft’s cheaper next-gen Xbox console spotted in devkit documents

During the early development phase of Project Scarlett, there were reports that Microsoft is working on two consoles codenamed ‘Anaconda’ and ‘Lockhart’. While the ‘Anaconda’ console made its debut as Xbox Series X, the ‘Lockhart’ has now been namedropped again in the latest Game Development Kit (GDK) released for developers.

The leaked documents clearly mention “Project Scarlett consoles” and a distinct LockhartProfiling mode. As per a report from TheVerge, the latter is a part of the Xbox Series X devkit that will allow game developers to test their games with the performance profile of the less-powerful ‘Lockhart’ console.

The performance profile reportedly caps the resources at around 7.5GB of RAM and 4 teraflops of GPU output, which is lower than the 13.5GB of usable RAM and 12 teraflops of GPU power delivered by the Xbox Series X. This cheaper console might arrive under the Xbox Series S name alongside the Xbox Series X this fall, and will reportedly target 1080p and 1440p gaming compared to the 4K prowess of its more powerful sibling.

Fortnite to arrive on Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5 with cross-gen progression in tow

It's only fair to share...Share on RedditShare on FacebookShare on Google+Tweet about this on TwitterPin on PinterestShare on Tumblr

Epic Games’ moneymaker, Fortnite, will arrive on the next-gen consoles – PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X – when they debut later this year. And just to be clear, this is not a new version of Fortnite, but the same game that has been optimized to take advantage of the powerful hardware packed inside Sony and Microsoft’s upcoming consoles.

What improvements exactly? Well, Epic Games has not revealed any specific details, aside from a vague explanation that “performance and visuals” will be better on the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. This is to be expected, since the new version of Fortnite for the aforementioned consoles will be based on the freshly-announced Unreal Engine 5.

And in case you’re wondering, Epic Games says all progression and items will be carried over console generations and platforms you are playing on. Also, the studio has promised that it will support cross-play across all platforms (including current and next-generation consoles), aside from continued support for Fortnite on all older consoles and platforms.

Xbox Series X Optimized games offer 4K at 120fps, raytracing, and lower load times

During the recent Xbox 20/20 show, Microsoft unveiled a new badge called “Optimized for Xbox Series X.” As the name clearly suggests, these are games that can take full advantage of the Xbox Series X’s powerful hardware and can deliver lower load times, better visuals at higher frame rates, and more.

The key upgrades will be improved visual quality with support for up to 4K gameplay powered by hardware-accelerated DirectX Raytracing, creating a more realistic environment with better lighting and reflections. The second key upgrade will be support for frame rates up to 120fps.

Another advantage of Xbox Series X Optimized games will be significantly lower load times and Smart Delivery. The latter means you’ll only have to pay once for a game, and as soon as an upgraded version of that game is available, you’ll get it for free irrespective of your console.

Here’s the full list of games that will come with the “Optimized for Xbox Series X” badge:

  • Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
  • Bright Memory: Infinite
  • Call of the Sea
  • Chorus
  • DIRT 5
  • GEARS 5
  • SCARLET NEXUS
  • Scorn
  • Second Extinction
  • The Ascent
