Xiaomi Mi Watch gets Amazon Alexa support with new update

Xiamo Mi Watch made its global debut alongside the launch of Mi 10T (review) series. The rebranded Xiaomi Watch Color Sports Edition, which comes with a voice assistant in China. However, at the time of launch, the Mi Watch didn’t have support for a voice assistant for the global users. But that is changing now. Xiaomi is rolling out a new update for its Mi Watch that brings support for Amazon Alexa on the device. The firmware update also brings some useful features and improvements.

The information comes from a user on Mi Community (via PiunikaWeb). The post says that Xiaomi is rolling out a new system update for the global variant of its Mi Watch. It comes with firmware version 1.2.52. The update brings a slew of optimizations and fixes some known bugs.

Apart from the Amazon Alexa support, the Mi Watch is also receiving an experimental feature to control your phone’s camera shutter from your watch. It is surprising that the feature wasn’t available on the wearable up until now since it comes in budget Mi Bands. You also get two new standby watch faces with the new update on Mi Watch. Notably, this is an experimental feature on the Mi Watch. Therefore, it could be buggy on a lot of smartphones.

Further, the optimizations allow you to wake up the watch faster. You also get an option to turn on and off auto-pause in workout on your device.

Mi Band 5, Mi Watch Revolve price in India tipped ahead of launch

Xiaomi is all set to launch its Mi Band 5 and Mi Watch Revolve in India tomorrow, September 29 at the Smarter Living 2021 virtual event. The alleged Indian pricing of both the devices have leaked online. The Watch Revolve is said to be a rebranded version of the Mi Watch Color launched in China earlier.

According to tipster Ishan Agarwal, the Mi Band 5 will have a maximum retail price (MRP) of Rs 2,999, which means it could be priced lower than that. The tipster suggests it will cost Rs 2,499. Coming to the Mi Watch Revolve, it is tipped to come with an MRP of Rs 10,999. Again, it could end up costing lesser than the price mentioned on the box. The smartwatch could cost around Rs 9,999. Further, the company is also rumored to launch the Mi Speaker.

If the Mi Watch Revolve is indeed the Mi Watch Color then it will feature a 1.39-inch (454×454 pixels) display and pack a 420mAh battery that is said to last 14 days on a single charge. It will include Bluetooth 5.0, Glonass, GPS, and come with a 5ATM water resistance rating. It features 24×7 heart rate tracking, stress monitoring, and sleep tracking features. The Mi Watch Color comes with 10 sport modes for tracking workouts like swimming, treadmill, running, and cycling among others.

On the other hand, the Mi Band 5 is teased to offer several watch faces, sleep monitoring, heart rate monitoring, VO2 max (maximal oxygen uptake) monitoring, and more. It will succeed the Mi Band 4 that was launched last year. The device is said to come with several sports modes and magnetic charging pins on the back.

Mi Watch Lite aka Redmi Watch could be coming soon

Late last year, Xiaomi introduced its Mi Watch in China for 1,299 Yuan (~$190). Now, it looks like the company is all set to unveil the Lite variant. The Mi Watch Lite has been spotted on a certification site. However, the listing for the Mi Watch Lite comes with model number REDMIWT02 and only hints at the charging speed for the smartwatch. Further, a Redmi Watch with model number REDMIWT01 was recently spotted in a Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) listing. Hence, the Mi Watch Lite could actually be the Redmi Watch.

The UL (Demko) authority has approved the Xiaomi Mi Watch Lite. It reveals the above-mentioned model number of the device and support for 5Vdc and 0.4A charging. Moreover, A reliable Chinese tipster had claimed that the REDMIWT01 will be debuting as Redmi Watch in China soon. Now, the MIWT02 that has been approved by UL (Demko) looks like a variant of the REDMIWT01. Hence, Redmi Watch could actually be a rebranded version of the Mi Watch Lite in some markets.

As for the Xiaomi Mi Watch, it features a 1.78-inch S-AMOLED display that offers 360 x 448 pixels. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 chipset, paired with 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage. It packs a 570mAh battery that is touted to last up to 36 hours on a single charge. Connectivity options on the Mi Watch include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC. Plus, it comes with dual-SIM cellular connectivity via eSIM support. It comes with sleep tracking, stress tracking, body energy tracking, and 10 professional sports modes.
