Get your white Nexus 4 now from Google Play, with free bumper

After months and months of waiting, we finally heard LG announce the white edition of the Nexus 4 earlier this week. We learned that sales would begin in Asia, and we’d slowly see its availability grow over the next few weeks. For Android fans in the States, at least, we’ve been wondering when that might mean we’d see the white Nexus 4 join its black sibling in the Google Play Store. As it turns out, that day is today, and Google’s ...

Acer releasing Intel-powered Android “desktop” next week? (Nope)

Just yesterday we were talking about the progress Intel’s making towards getting more and more Android devices using its processors. Not every device we’ve heard mention in regards to such Intel-Android pairings has been the traditional smartphone or tablet, and last month we heard talk about Intel chips showing up in Android-based devices with hardware more closely resembling a typical laptop. That’s sort of the same vein we’re ...

Image reveals Nokia, Sony phablets?

Android fan? Windows Phone advocate? Right now it doesn’t matter which camp you fall into, as we’ve got something for both you guys. Check out the image above – just a bunch of phones lounging around on some tables, right? Sure, but at least a couple of these guys are pretty noteworthy, as unless our eyes deceive us, there are some unknown Nokia and Sony models up there. As should be clear from that HTC One right next to it, that is one big honking Nokia. Supposedly, it’s a Lumia 1030, but no mention is ...

In a world with LTE and HSPA+, why you should care about 802.11ac?

The router at Pocketnow HQ recently broke-down and had to be replaced. The one that was chosen to replace it featured the latest and greatest in wireless technologies, including 802.11ac WiFi. Since many of today’s smartphones and tablets are coming with 802.11ac built-in, what does this “new” technology mean for you, and why should you care about making sure your next device has 802.11ac on its spec sheet? Wireless networking started to gain popularity in 1997 with 802.11a and 802.11b. It was slow. It was expensive. It wasn’t ...

LG Optimus G2 candidate spotted on camera again

The next big smartphone we’re expecting from LG – at least the next phone we expect to see LG sell on its own and not as a new Nexus model – is the Optimus G2, the true successor to last year’s Optimus G, rather than the new Optimus G Pro, which seems like more of a cousin. For the longest time we’ve been expecting the G2 to go official at this summer’s IFA, though that hasn’t stopped some info on the handset from leaking early.

HTC tablet plans reportedly changed, full-sized Windows RT tablet canceled

We were wondering what an HTC One-like Android tablet would look like, and today we’re wondering what an HTC tablet running Windows RT will look like. Not because we have too much time on our hands but because of a recent report claiming HTC tablet plans have changed. The rumored full-sized HTC tablet running Windows RT has been reportedly scratched because of the manufacturer’s concern regarding weak demand.  The information comes from “people familiar with the matter”, so treat ...

LG Nexus 5 reportedly being tested

Which side of the story you tend to believe, and how you interpret it, about LG Mobile Europe VP Kim Won’s interview, regarding the LG Nexus 5, is completely up to you. We can all agree though that Kim Won never denied the possibility of a new Nexus phone, and didn’t necessarily speak about future plans. According to a recent report (and an automated translation), the company is currently testing an LG Nexus 5 prototype. The trials have been allegedly ongoing for a month now, but there are ...
