Official Lumia 950, Lumia 950 XL images emerge from Microsoft’s early listing

Microsoft’s recovering from a little slip-up that saw the company inadvertently list the upcoming Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL smartphones on its UK site in advance of the next week’s launch event. The attached specs matched what had previously leaked, and the imagery – albeit tiny thumbnail-quality – aligned with available renders. While Microsoft has since scrubbed the site of these listings, it didn’t do so before a little detective work managed to uncover some full-sized ...

iPhone 6s Plus vs Galaxy Note 5 / S6 Edge+ (Video)

If there’s ever been a Pocketnow headline with more complicated brand names, I sure don’t know about it. It’s an S year for Apple and a reinvention year for Samsung, with revised variants of the new iPhone going up against totally redesigned Galaxy offerings, and the result (in addition to the alphabet soup of branding) is a set of smartphones that have never been more alike – but which are still completely different. From new interface methods to new hardware designs, both Apple and Samsung are bringing something interesting to their smartphone offerings in 2015, and ...

Super-premium Tag Heuer Android Wear smartwatch lands in November (for a little more than expected)

The smartwatch market is maturing, and as new players enter the game, and early competitors come back with more and more refined models, we’re witnessing the emergence of new product tiers. Those fall on both ends of the spectrum, and in addition to the arrival of high quality affordable models like the new ASUS ZenWatch 2, we’re also seeing interest in more luxury-focused models, with elegant designs and steep prices to match. Apple proved there’s a market for these wearables, and now other ...

Samsung Gear S2 release info: manufacturer talks US sales date, pricing

Samsung came to IFA this year ready to show off its round-screened Gear S2 smartwatch. Following the longest stretch without a new Samsung smartwatch in recent memory, expectations for the Gear S2 were high, and to Samsung’s credit, it very much delivered. Impressed as we were with the new wearable, all that remained was to see it go up for sale, and in recent weeks we’ve been keeping up with rumors discussing possible release dates and pricing. Today we pick up some official ...

Vodafone new Smart Speed 6 enters the battle for cheapest 4G phone

Vodafone new Smart Speed 6 enters the battle for cheapest 4G phone

Vodafone has announced a new phone that gives you 4G internet at a low price and it even packs some quite impressive specs considering how much it costs.

The Smart Speed 6 offers a 4.5-inch display, 1GB of RAM, a MediaTek quad-core processor and only weighs 146g.

It comes packed with Android 5.1 Lollipop software, has a 5MP rear camera, a 2MP front facing camera and the best part is you get 4G connectivity if you're on a suitable data plan.

Super cheap 4G

All of this comes for £50 – quite impressive considering two years ago no phone in this range offered super fast internet connectivity.

EE still holds the title for the cheapest 4G phone in the UK with the EE Rook that costs £49 for those already with the network. You'll be able to pre-order the Smart Speed 6 on the Vodafone website soon.

Lumia 950 and 950 XL confirmed by Microsoft’s mistake

Lumia 950 and 950 XL confirmed by Microsoft's mistake

Microsoft's new Lumia 950 and 950 XL have leaked in various forms over the past few weeks but now the latest leak comes from Microsoft itself.

The company has announced the phones, presumably by accident, on the Microsoft Store along with a few specs confirming the Lumia 950 will have a 5.2-inch screen, 20MP camera and 32GB of storage.

The larger phone is the Lumia 950 XL that will feature a 5.7-inch screen with the same 20MP camera and 32GB of storage.

Big slip up

It's not quite clear why the phones are up already - the placeholders were still there at the time of writing - but it seems to be a mistake as the pricing details are also missing.

Some are speculating that Microsoft has put the advert up on purpose to garner some attention for the phones, but it's most likely just a mistake at the back end of the store.

Officially we expect to see both phones at a Windows 10 event in New York next week - but for now it's good to hear Microsoft itself confirm the two phones.

Microsoft UK e-store goofs up, lists Lumia 950 and 950 XL already

Tech enthusiasts always like it when their favorite device manufacturers and software developers are sincere and open about updates to new OS builds, but sometimes, we’ll understand if Microsoft, for instance, has something to hide.Case in point, no one would have been bothered if Redmond waited until the actual formal introductions of the Lumia 950 and 950 XL to confirm

OnePlus X (Mini?) tipped to lower the bar to a 5-inch screen and Snapdragon 801

We’ve long wondered what OnePlus might be planning to cut from its second-gen “flagship killer” to come up with an even cheaper yet still respectable new phone focused on style rather than performance.A few concept renders envisioned a slightly too fancy design for a sub-$250 Android last week, with a rear-positioned circular fingerprint scanner and dual camera setup in tow, and a ...

Sony may not release the Xperia Z6 for a long time, and that’s a good thing

Sony may not release the Xperia Z6 for a long time, and that's a good thing

Sony has been releasing two phones a year since the Xperia Z in 2013 - a strategy that hasn't been helping the company financially. But it seems Sony may finally have decided to slow things down a little.

In a recent interview with Sony's Art Director Rikke Gertsen Constein, she notes that the design department is already working on flagship phones for the second half of 2016, 2017 and 2018.

Constein didn't mention anything for the first half of 2016 though – if the established six month cycle was to continue we'd expect Sony to release a new Xperia Z series at MWC in March.

Breath of fresh air

A lot of voices have told Sony to slow the process down – including us here at techradar. Even though Sony gets the latest technology out on the market quicker, you know it'll be out of date in a few months time.

The Xperia Z5 series seems to be a strong lineup of phones and is sure to take the company through to at least mid-2016 so it wouldn't be a massive surprise if the company kept this pattern for the foreseeable future.

That said, the interview isn't entirely clear – it may be that the design isn't going to undergo big changes in 2016 and the Xperia Z6 will be ready for us at the start of the year. You can watch the interview just below and see for yourself.
