Xiaomi Black Shark 3, 3 Pro teased to feature 65W fast charging, triple cameras and magnetic connector

Black Shark 3 is scheduled to be unveiled on March 3 in China, and the company has shared many teasers in the time leading up to the official announcement. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun shared a video on Weibo along with other teasers that reveal certain key aspects of the upcoming gaming phone by Xiaomi-backed Black Shark.

Interestingly, Jun's post hints at the existence of a Black Shark 3 Pro variant as well, which could mean that we're looking at two phone launches on March 3. The regular Black Shark 3 comes with a 4,720mAh battery while the "Pro" model has 5,000mAh battery capacity to boot.

Both the variations of the Black Shark 3 support 65W fast charging that Jun claims will be able to charge the phone from 0% to 60% in a matter of 15 minutes. The post also reveals a dual-cell design for the battery pack along with support for charging via a magnetic connector.

In the poster shared on the social media platform, the charging time of Black Shark 3 is compared to IQOO 3, with the latter going up to 2220mAh in 15 minutes of 55W fast charging.

The magnetic connector seems to solve a rather common pain-point of gaming phones, in that you can use the magnetic pogo pin connector to charge the phone while gaming simultaneously. Whether this magnetic charging solution solves this issue without compromising on the ergonomics remains to be seen.

Black Shark 3 was also spotted on AnTuTu Benchmark with 90Hz refresh rate QHD+ (3120 x 1440 pixels) resolution display, 12GB RAM, 512GB storage, and is powered by top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset with 5G support. It scored 612651 points on AnTuTu, which is the highest score achieved by a smartphone.

The Black Shark 3 is turning out to be a high-end phone leaving doors open for other OEMs such as Asus, Lenovo, and Nubia. We'll be keeping an eye out for more details cropping up ahead of the launch.

Amazon to launch food delivery service in India to take on Zomato, Swiggy

E-commerce giant Amazon is set to venture into the Indian food delivery market to take on Zomato and Swiggy. The launch of this new service could happen in March, as reported by TechCrunch. This move comes a month after Uber Eats, the food delivery arm of Uber Technologies in India, was acquired by Zomato.

Amazon's food delivery service will be offered as a part of Amazon Prime subscription or via Amazon Fresh platform. The report by TechCrunch cites an anonymous source familiar with the matter, which reveals that the service is being tested with some restaurants in Bangalore ahead of the launch.

In an official statement by a spokesperson, Amazon says, "We believe in innovating on behalf of our customers to create newer experiences for them. As part of this commitment, we are constantly evaluating new areas and opportunities to connect with and serve our customers. We will come back to you when we have something to announce."

Amazon food delivery service: What it means for India?

Recently, Amazon founder Jeff Bezos visited India and announced the company's investment of over $1 billion in an attempt to help SMBs (Small and Medium Businesses) sell online. The company already operates food and grocery delivery service, Amazon Fresh via Prime Now that was announced in August 2019 and competes with services like Grofers and Big Basket.

Amazon's primary asset is its Prime subscription, which offers a bouquet of services like the abovementioned Prime Now grocery delivery. The upcoming food delivery service is also expected to fall under this umbrella, which would mean that you only need to have a Prime subscription to access the service.

Amazon has a tough task ahead as restaurant and cloud kitchen owners have been dissatisfied with the existing services and have often criticized them for promoting aggressive deals and offers for users at the behest of huge losses for restaurateurs.

Amazon has been working on its food delivery service in India for quite some time now and was previously looking to launch it in Diwali 2019, but incidentally got delayed.

After Uber Eats' exit from India, the food delivery market looks ripe for a new player that may offer some respite to the owners of food businesses across India.

Amazon's rival in India Flipkart also announced last year that it would enter the retail food business dubbed as Flipkart Farmermart and, according to a fresh report, is already trialing the service with the delivery of fruits and groceries.

Apple to set up retail shop in India by 2021: CEO Tim Cook

At the just-concluded 2020 Apple Annual Shareholders meeting, Tim Cook confirmed that Apple is looking to inaugurate its first retail store in India by 2021, while the online store is set to go live by the end of this year.

Apple has been looking to set up shop in India for quite some time now. In October 2019, it got the green light for the first company-owned company-operated Apple store in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), Mumbai, India.

Tim Cook also revealed that Apple has been in talks with the Government of India, but as the latter wanted the company to get into retail with a partnership, it has taken a bit longer to get everything in shape.

As reported previously, Apple has leased around 25,000 square feet in Maker Maxity mall in BKC for its three-storeyed flagship store, which is said to be at par with the company's stores in Hong Kong. Each of the three floors will serve a different purpose and will be dedicated to the experience and service center along with a retail store.

Currently, Apple's biggest store in India is franchise-run and serves as a Reseller store, situated in High Street Phoenix, Mumbai. As to why Apple should double down its efforts in India, the answer is clear. As per IDC, Apple is the numero uno player in the premium smartphone segment range of India and dominated the market with a 75.6% share in Q4 2019.

The two products that should be appreciated for Apple's rise in 2019 are the iPhone 11 and iPhone XR, which were best-selling phones by the company last year. Apple currently holds a 2% share when the entire premium segment accounts for 2.7% of the Indian smartphone market.

Flagship Motorola Edge Plus specs leaked, alongside One Mid and G8 Power Lite

The Motorola Edge Plus, Motorola One Mid, and Motorola Moto G8 Power Lite could be next in line to be unveiled by Motorola, and fresh leaks from XDA Developers' Mishaal Rahman lay bare the key specifications of the three smartphones, headlined by the flagship Motorola Edge Plus, which has been leaked before.

Interestingly, and as Rahman states in his tweet, the Motorola Edge Plus will be the company's first true flagship smartphone to have come out since Moto Z3 in 2018. Even the recent Motorola Razr is powered by a mid-range Snapdragon 710 chipset.

So it's safe to say Motorola has not dabbled with a flagship phone in the past two years, and things have changed drastically in the smartphone space in that time, but on paper at least the Motorola Edge Plus sounds like it might be able to compete with the likes of the Samsung Galaxy S20.

All the specs

According to Rahman, the Motorola Edge Plus features a 6.67-inch Full HD+ (2340 x 1080) resolution screen with a 90Hz refresh rate. It will be a curved display, probably an AMOLED panel.

The phone will apparently be powered by a top-of-the-line Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset paired with up to 12GB of RAM. It's also said to have a massive 5,000mAh battery.

He doesn't state whether it will have fast charging, but going by the feature set we are inclined to believe that it will support some sort of fast charging solution.

Now, this is a pretty decent list of hardware as far as flagship phones go, other perhaps than the resolution, but there's still so much that's unknown about the Motorola Edge Plus, most notably its camera specs.

Next up, the Motorola One Mid seems to be part of the Android One program (based on its name) and supposedly features a 6.53-inch Full HD+ (2340 x 1080) resolution display. It is said to be powered by a mid-range Snapdragon 675 processor, and to have a 4,000mAh battery.

Finally, the Motorola Moto G8 Power Lite is said to be powered by MediaTek Helio P35 chipset and to have a 5,000mAh battery. So it sounds like a low-end phone but one that probably has a lot of life.

We imagine these phones might launch soon - especially the Motorola One Edge, as that has been leaked multiple times, so we should know all the official details soon.

Realme 6, 6 Pro and Realme band set to launch in India on March 5

Realme 6 and Realme 6 Pro, along with the Realme band, are set to launch in India on March 5. Realme CEO Madhav Sheth took to twitter and revealed the launch information of the Realme 6 series.

Earlier this week, during the launch of the Realme X50 Pro 5G, the company also revealed that it would be announcing the Realme band fitness tracker on March 5.

While details are scarce at the moment, the Realme 6 series is expected to feature 64MP quad cameras setup and a 90Hz "Pro Display."

Realme 6 and Realme 6 Pro: What to expect?

Realme 6 series will take the company's budget series forward, this time with 64MP quad cameras and possibly a high refresh rate display. In line with last year's Realme 5 series, the new generation of phones are expected to be priced competitively in India.

Realme 6 poster also hints at dual-punch hole cutout for front-facing cameras, yes there appear to be two selfie snappers! But as of now, it's unclear whether both the phones will sport dual cameras on the front or just the Pro model.

A MediaTek processor could power the phones as in the case of Redmi Note 8 Pro or a new Qualcomm chip. Also, both the models are expected to run on Realme UI out-of-the-box.

At the time of launch, the Realme 5 was priced starting at Rs 9,999 while the Pro version was up for grabs starting at Rs 13,999. We expect the new series to touch the same price points considering the highly volatile nature of this budget segment. That said, Xiaomi hasn't revealed what it has in store for us yet, and Realme clearly wants to reap the benefits of first-mover advantage.

As for the Realme fitness tracker dubbed as Realme Band, it has been teased by the company many times now along with the new Realme link app that will let you connect it to your smartphone. It would be interesting to see how Realme prices this one as it marks the company's entry into the wearables sector. Also, the company isn't stopping there as it already has plans to launch a smartwatch, which made a surprise appearance during the launch of Realme X50 Pro just this past week.

OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro updated to support Jio VoWiFi: Here’s how to activate it

OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro are receiving a new update that brings Jio VoWiFi support, work-life balance mode, bug fixes and other improvements. Most of the features of OxygenOS 10.3.1 update are India-centric with a staged rollout already in progress.

OnePlus says that it is randomly seeding the update to users, hence, using a VPN service won't work. The latest update brings support for VoWiFi calls using a Reliance Jio network to the OnePlus 7 series.

There's a new Work-Life Balance mode which lets you set up two profiles for use between work and home. You can mute notifications when at work or when taking time out for yourself with a toggle in the notification menu. The app lets you select the apps you'd like to receive alerts from during either of these modes.

The new update also enables a cricket score widget in the Shelf area and gives you live updates on matches.

OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro: How to activate Jio VoWiFi?

To enable VoWiFi (voice-over WiFi) on the Jio network from your OnePlus 7 or 7 Pro, you need to make sure you're running the latest OxygenOS 10.3.1.

Next up, you need to go to Settings and tap on Wifi & Internet. From the list of options, select SIM & Network and tap on the Jio 4G SIM. Under the Enhanced Communications category, use the toggles to switch on VoLTE and WiFi Calling.

Now you'll see a VoWiFi icon in the Status bar, indicating that you have successfully activated the VoWiFi on the Jio network. Now you can make calls using your WiFi network.

With VoWiFi, your calls get connected to the network through the WiFi as opposed to cell towers. Also, you don't need to pay any additional charge for making VoWiFi calls.

So, if you're on the latest OxygenOS version, this would probably help you enable the VoWiFi option. For everyone else, stay tuned for the update to get to your phone.

OxygenOS 10.3.1: Changelog

Oppo Reno3 Pro confirmed to launch on March 2 in India

Oppo Reno3 Pro has been confirmed to make it to the Indian shores on March 2. The much-awaited smartphone was previously expected to launch on February 27, but now Oppo has chosen a later date for the same.

The listing of Reno3 Pro on Oppo's website and Flipkart have been updated with a new banner which reveals the launch date of the phone in India. The Reno3 Pro was announced back in December 2019 in China and comes with 5G support.

However, in India, Oppo has confirmed that the Reno3 Pro will be available with 4G support and not 5G. Apart from this, there are also indications that the Indian variant of the Reno3 Pro might sport dual front-facing cameras, one of which could be a 44MP sensor, the biggest on the front of a phone yet.

Let's take a brief look at the Reno3 Pro and what new features can we expect with the Indian version.

Oppo Reno3 Pro specifications

Oppo Reno3 Pro features a 6.5-inch Full HD+ (2400 x 1080 pixels) resolution AMOLED screen which is coated with a layer of Corning's Gorilla Glass 5. The display has an in-built fingerprint reader, a refresh rate of 90Hz and supports DCI-P3 colour gamut range.

It is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G chipset in China but as the Indian version of the Reno 3 Pro will be limited to 4G connectivity, we believe it will be powered by a different processor. This is paired with upto 12GB RAM and 256GB UFS 2.1 storage. The phone runs on ColorOS 7 which is based on Android 10.

Coming to the cameras, the Reno3 Pro has a quad-camera array on the back which consists of a primary 48MP sensor, 13MP telephoto lens with 2x optical zoom, 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2MP black and white sensor. Disney Plus set to launch in India on March 29 as Disney Plus Hotstar

Disney Plus is coming to India on March 29 via Hotstar ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament. At The Walt Disney Company, Q1 2020 earnings call, Chairman and CEO Bob Iger stated that Disney Plus streaming service is going to make its way to India via Hotstar, kicking off the IPL 2020 season. The streaming service has gathered 26.5 million subscribers since its launch in November 2019.

Hotstar VIP and Premium subscription plans will be rebranded to Disney Plus Hotstar. Owned by Star India, which in turn is owned by Disney, Hotstar is known for setting world streaming records, the latest of which saw a record 25.3 million concurrent viewers during the semi-final of ICC Cricket World Cup.

"We're also excited to announce that we will be launching Disney+ in India through our Hotstar service on March 29th at the beginning of the Indian Premier League cricket season. We will be rebranding our existing Hotstar VIP and Premium subscription tiers to Disney plus Hotstar," Iger said.

"We see this as a great opportunity to use the proven platform of Hotstar to launch the new Disney+ service in one of the most populous countries and fastest-growing economies in the world," he adds.

Hotstar VIP and Premium rebranded to Disney+ Hotstar

As you may have noticed, Disney Plus streaming service won't have a separate app for India, and instead, Hotstar's app will be revamped to feature original programming, movies, and TV shows from the house of mouse.

Hotstar is one of the most significant streaming players in India, with over 300 million subscribers, which is why Disney needs to integrate with an already established platform for faster adoption.

Without getting into the specifics, Iger mentioned that Disney is planning to bring two products when the streaming service launches in India. There will be a premium product that includes the entire Disney Plus Hotstar library, while the other one will only have the essentials, skipping out on original programming.

It could be possible that he's talking about two subscription plans that will replace Hotstar's VIP and Premium plans. "We think it's an opportune moment, we take advantage of the presence of Star in the market and the millions of subscribers that they also have, we take advantage of the sports tie-in, and we use the interface and the technology that includes the billing that already exists to launch a service we believe under very, very optimal circumstances," he said.

According to our previous reports, Hotstar is also expected to double its subscription fees ahead of the IPL 2020 season. It could go up to $30 (~Rs 2,000) from $15 (Rs 999) for the annual subscription, making it the most expensive streaming service.

Currently, Hotstar offers exclusive sports coverage, special programs, movies, TV shows, broadcast channels, and license titles from 20th Century Fox, Warner Bros., Sony Pictures, Showtime, HBO, and ABC Studios.

Disney Plus, on the other hand, has a vast collection of old and new titles from Walt Disney, Pixar, Lucasfilms, and Marvel Studios, with more original shows set to debut on the platform in 2020.

Apple reportedly begins iPhone SE 2 trial production, could launch as iPhone 9 in March

Apple iPhone SE 2, the much-anticipated affordable-iPhone, has reportedly entered trial production and is expected to launch in March, probably as the iPhone 9. The successor to 2016's iPhone SE has been rumored now and then with the latest reports suggesting that it will be priced starting at $399 (Rs 28,555, £379, AU$679).

According to a report by MyDrivers, which cities industry chain sources, Apple has kicked-off the trail production of "this year's first iPhone," with mass production set to begin by mid-February. Moreover, the report suggests that the phone will be named iPhone 9 as opposed to iPhone SE 2 and is targeted at emerging markets like India, which is the reason why it will be an affordable iPhone.

The iPhone 9 is said to feature Apple's homegrown A13 processor paired with 3GB RAM, 3D Touch, and Touch ID functionalities.

According to rumors, the iPhone 9 features a 4.7-inch screen with a design that resembles the iPhone 8. However, there's a possibility that it could have minimal bezels and a notch with Face ID. The camera is also said to be a massive upgrade over the previous generation.

The report also states that that supply chain experts believe the iPhone 9 will help drive total iPhone shipments in 2020 to exceed 200 million units.

Apple is expected to unveil the iPhone 9 alongside this year's iPad Pro, which is said to be powered by A13X Bionic chipset and triple camera setup with a new 3D sensing solution. We'll know more as we near the official announcement of the launch.
