Windows 10 Mobile on HTC 8X isn’t happening right now

HTC has had a legacy relationship with Windows, but it’s been a dry one as of late. The One M8 for Windows came in about 16 months ago with Windows Phone 8.1 and we haven’t heard anything in terms of updates to Windows 10 Mobile. But we know which HTC Windows device won’t be getting the OTA update.

Windows Phone 8 GDR3 reportedly allows phones to recharge while turned off

You can charge your Android device while having it turned off but Windows Phones, pretty much like iPhones, will boot up immediately when plugged in for a charge while being turned off. The HTC 8X, both the global and the AT&T carrier flavor, has started receiving its GDR3 update, and apparently the refresh solves this issue (feature?). WPCentral reports that once the HTC 8X as the latest firmware, powering it off and plugging it in for a charge triggers a vibration, followed by the HTC logo, a battery icon, but no boot into the operating system. HTC “Tiara” Windows Phone 8 Model Tipped for Release This Spring

HTC got off to a good start with Windows Phone 8, releasing the Windows Phone 8S and 8X (above), but while we’ve seen Nokia take the platform and positively run with it, HTC hasn’t given us anything new since then.
