Lollipop’s troubles have been made very visible by the tech media to the national media. In the second case, it was with Android 5.0’s Stagefright vulnerabilities that led to the pouring of vows to step up security updates. And while the move to

NVIDIA puts other Android OEMs to shame with speedy 5.0.1 update

One year ago, if you had asked us to name some companies to consider when you’re in the market for an affordable, high-spec Android tablet, we’d rattle off a few names… with NVIDIA not really among them. While 2013’s Tegra Note 7 was an interesting foray into the world of budget tablets, its specs weren’t much to talk about, and NVIDIA was a pretty unproven entity when it came to Android software support. But a year later we have the Shield Tablet, and while the price is up, the ...

Android 5.0.1 OTA downloads: update your Nexus tablet now

Overnight, Google flipped the switch on the very latest Android platform release, getting the ball rolling with Android 5.0.1 for the WiFi editions of the latest Nexus tablets. The company was quick to make available the 5.0.1 factory images for these devices, but as anyone who’s installed one will be quick to tell you, flashing one of those can be a bit of a pain, forcing you to restore all your apps, data, and settings after the fact. Really, it’s OTA updates we’re interested in, but as of last ...

Android 5.0.1 hits AOSP, Nexus factory images also available

We know that you’re all super-tired with Android 5.0 at this point, it’s just so old. In case you somehow feel that way, we have quite the treat for you: say hello to Android 5.0.1. The update, mainly to squash the various bugs we found in the initial Lollipop build, has been pushed to AOSP and factory images have been made available for select Nexus devices to sideload as well.As far as we can tell, build number LRX22C (which flies in AOSP as Android 5.0.1_r1, by the way), brings no functional changes to Lollipop – it’s mainly a compilation of fixes to a bunch of ...
