It seems that we could also get to see the 16-inch MacBook Pro make its debut alongside the 14-inch model on the next WWDC

The current iMac Pro was launched back in 2017, so we can say that it’s more than ready to get a refresh. Several rumors suggest that Apple is getting ready to launch more Macs with Apple Silicon. It seems that we may get a new iMac Pro shortly, as the current model is now being discontinued over at Apple’s online store.
This may be one of your last chances to get a new iMac Pro. Apple has confirmed that it’s discontinuing this powerful desktop, and since yesterday, it removed all build-to-order configurations, leaving only one option for those interested.
You can get your 2017 iMac Pro for $4,999 while supplies last. This will get you a 27-inch iMac Pro with Retina 5K display, 32GB RAM, and 1TB storage space, powered by a 3.0GHz Intel Xeon processor. If you purchase your PC from Apple, you get the chance of paying $416.58/mo for 12 months. However, if you’re looking for a regular iMac, you can find more configuration options and some rather interesting savings when you head over to Amazon, Best Buy of B&H. For example, you can grab a 21.5-inch iMac with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD for $1349 after a $150 discount.
It is rumored that the new iMacs could come with a new Apple M1X chip, or the next step in Apple chips after the arrival of the M1 processor in the 13-inch MacBook Pro, the Mac Air, and the latest Mac mini. There’s no clue as to when these devices may hit the shelves, but it’s said that Cupertino may be planning on launching a redesigned iMac with thin bezels and a boxy design by the time of WWDC which would suggest a summer launch. However, Apple’s recent decision to discontinue the iMac Pro can easily make us believe that it is getting ready to launch soon.

Let’s kick the week off with some pretty familiar deals, that are still awesome if we’re being honest. The new M1 MacBook Pro is still $50 off, leaving the entry level, Silver option for $1250 shipped. That’s actually the color I use and which I recommend most given how it ages. You can also get the discount if you go for the 512GB of SSD variant, leaving that for $1450. The 16in MacBook Pro is also $200 off, that leaves the 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD model for $2200 shipped. And okay, let’s move on to your favorite Samsung trade-in deals because I find it crazy that they’re still available. Starting off with the Note 20 Series, where you can find the Note 20 for $450 and the Ultra for $750. The S20 Series is also on discount, and you can get my favorite, the S20+ for $740 or the Ultra for $940. Finally, the Z Fold 2 is still at a $1000 which I find to be the better deal along with the Note. Again, for all of these you need an eligible device for trade-in but, they’re still pretty crazy. Finally, the Apple Watch SE is $20 off, leaving it at $309 shipped. We have more deals on other Samsung products like the S10 and the Buds, other Apple Watches and more in the links below.
Now let’s talk about the recent moves that Apple Music has just made. I mean, Apple One was interesting enough for me to be willing to pay for it, but it seems that now Apple might have added a nail to its HomePod coffin. Last week, Apple Music rolled out support to Amazon’s A Speakers and now, Apple Music it’s making its way to Google Assistant enabled smart devices. Starting today, you can ask Google to play Apple Music on your Nest devices, that includes the Nest Audio, Hub Max and others. Now, the service is rolling out in the US, UK, Japan, Germany and France as of today but they are planning for support in other regions as well. Of course, you’ll have to pair your account with your Google account and then you should be good to go. And yes, I do agree that it’s not like if the HomePod Mini doesn’t have advantages, like Privacy which we still haven’t been able to confirm, and also sound quality, but at its price, I’m even debating paying for Spotify anymore.
Now, let’s talk about LG’s Project Explorer as, the company has done a great job putting themselves back in the spotlight thanks to devices like the Wing. We know that the Wing was just the first phone that was a part of this project, with the next one reportedly being that rollable phone dubbed the “LG Slide”. According to a tipster on Twitter, the LG Slide was just spotted in South Korea’s carrier intranet database. This revealed the carrier and unlocked model number, hinting to the fact that we’re getting close to the actual launch. Going from what we’ve heard from past reports, this phone is expected to bring a rollable OLED display which extends to give you a bigger canvas, and other trademarks hint that we might get stylus support. We’re expecting this to launch sometime in 2021, with multiple reports claiming that it is coming in March so we’ll see. Let’s just hope they add a flagship processor to match the flagship price this time.
Let’s move on to OPPO as, we’re expecting the company to launch three different phones in Q1 of next year according to nonother than Evan Blass. He claims that the most important one will be the Find X3 Pro which is codenamed Fussi. This phone will bring the new Snapdragon 888 SoC and OPPO plans to market it with something along the lines of “Awaken Color”. This is because one of the main, if not the main feature will be the new display which is a 6.7in 1440p display with a 525ppi. It also has end-to-end 10-bit color support along with an adaptive-dynamic frame rate, from 10-120Hz, kind of like the Note 20 Ultra. Now, when it comes to the cameras, apparently we’ll be getting two 50MP image sensors from Sony, one for the primary and one for the ultra wide, as well as a 13MP telephoto and a 3MP macro camera.. Yay. It will be capable of 25x zoom which will also be a key point for OPPO,. Evan also mentions that when it comes to design, it will be 8mm thick and 190 grams, and it will bring a ceramic matte-frosted glass at the back in black and blue color ways at launch. Other specs also include a 4500 mAh battery and 65W charging. Again, OPPO should announce these in Q1 of 2020, but they will most likely release until Q2.
Now let’s talk Apple and camera capabilities for iPhones, as even if the 12 Pro Max is great, it’s not really that much better than everything else out there. So far we’ve had two different reports claiming that we’ll be getting a periscope lens on iPhones and now, this third one makes it look like it’s actually going to happen. This report comes from the Elec and it reiterates that Cupertino is looking to improve their zoom features by using SEMCO periscope lenses that could offer up to 10x optical zoom but, it gives somewhat of a larger timeline, suggesting it could be either in 2022 or 2023. Just to recap, Apple has been patenting solutions for periscopic zoom lens since 2014 but, the company has never actually put one on the iPhone. Now that they’ve been able to do away with the patent issues that held them back, it looks like they’re getting ready. Last week we talked about how they are already in talks with suppliers, with SEMCO and LG probably supplying these modules. And we’re going to go with Ming Chi Kuo’s timeline which claims that we’ll be getting these with the 2022 iPhones.
And finally the hottest news today have to do with Apple Silicon Macs, because if you thought the M1 was great, Apple is clearly not even close to being done. So far, we’ve got three devices running on the M1 processor which is already pretty powerful but, we assume it’s also the source for certain limitations, like only having two USB C ports, and it looks like Apple wants to go ALL OUT with their upcoming releases. According to a new report from Bloomberg, Apple is making a series of new Mac processors that is aimed at outperforming Intel’s best. The report claims that the next two series of Apple chips will be more ambitious than expected, with more CPU cores and even more GPU cores. So alright, the M1 comes with an 8 core CPU and either 7 or 8 core GPUs. Well this report claims that Cupertino is currently testing 16 and 32-core models. But wait there’s more, they’re also working on chips with up to 128 cores for either late 2021 or 2022. Currently they are working on a processor design with 16 high performance CPU cores which might make it to the upcoming MacBook Pros we’re expecting. So if you think about it, we’re expecting new MacBook Pros, new iMacs and possibly a new Mac Pro that could be half the size of the current one. And with this report saying that if Apple delivers they will significantly outpace the latest Intel chips, these new computers should be on a whole different league when compared to Intel’s Xeon or AMDs Threadrippers.

The post Pocketnow Daily: Dear Intel: Apple Was Just Getting Started! *NEW Apple Silicon Leaks* (video) appeared first on Pocketnow.
Apple announced a new MacBook Air, a 13-inch MacBook Pro, and a Mac mini powered by its own M1 chip during its ‘‘One more thing’’ event, which took place last week. Cupertino was proud to present its new devices while it also explained how its new Apple Silicon products surpass their predecessor. Now, we also get new evidence that suggests that the M1 chip’s graphics performance easily defeats some desktop GPUs.
According to the latest benchmarks scores posted by Tom’s Hardware, the new Apple M1 processor defeats the graphics performance of the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and AMD Radeon RX 560. Apple already announced that the new octa-core GPU in its M1 chip could simultaneously take on almost 25,000 threads and deliver close to 2.6 TFLOPS of throughput, which is the same TFLOPS reached by the Radeon RX 560, and just below the GeForce GTX 1650’s1650’s 2.9 TFLOPS.
“Generic benchmarks only tell one part of the story. Furthermore, GFXBench 5.0 isn’t exactly the best tool for testing graphics cards either, given that it’s aimed at smartphone benchmarking. As always, we recommend treating the benchmark results with caution until we see a thorough review of the M1.
“In a clear victory, the Apple M1 bested the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti by a good margin. The Radeon RX 560 didn’t stand a chance, either. Admittedly, the two discrete gaming graphics cards are pretty old by today’s standards, but that shouldn’t overshadow the fact that M1’s integrated graphics outperformed both 75W desktop graphics cards, but within a pretty tight TDP range of its own.”
GFX Bench 5.0 benchmarks show that the M1 chip usually performs better than the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti and Radeon RX 560. Several tests were performed, and all showed the same results. But we must not forget that GFXBench 5.0 benchmarks are used to test mobile devices, and the M1’s contestants are not the latest GPUs in the market.

Apple has recently presented its new Apple M1 chip, as well as three new devices that are powered by it. Among them, we get a new MacBook Air, a MacBook Pro, and a Mac mini, which are already available for purchase. Apple also announced that its new products with Apple Silicon would be faster than its predecessors, but we didn’t have a clear idea as to how much. Luckily, we now have the results of benchmark tests that show that one of these new devices is more powerful than a 16-inch MacBook Pro.
The latest MacBook Air with Apple’s new M1 processor has recently been tested over at Geekbench. The results show that the laptop has reached a single-core score of 1687 and a multi-core score of 7433, with the 8-core chip clocked at 3.2GHz.
Now, these test scores show that the new MacBook Air with Apple Silicon is more powerful than every single mobile Mac, all current Mac mini configurations, and it also outpowers a good number of iMac specs. This also includes the late 2019 MacBook Pro with an Intel Core i9 processor, which is clocked at 2.4GHz.
The results are supposed to come from a new MacBook Air with 8GB RAM, while it ran macOS 11.0.1, and not the latest macOS Big Sur version that’s already available today. Let’s remember that this is the first Apple-designed Mac chip, and according to Cupertino, it has been a breakthrough for desktop processing, with leading performance and extreme power efficiency. However, these are nonverified test results, so take them with a grain of salt.
The new MacBook Air comes with a design that’s almost identical to its Intel-powered predecessor, so you can also get it in the same three color options, which include Silver, Space Gray, and Gold. You also get the same 13.3-inch Retina display with a 2560 x 1600 resolution and a battery that will give you up to 18 hours of video playback or 15 hours of wireless web browsing.

Apple’s “One More Thing” virtual event is just a day away, and it is going to be a big one. While this is the last major Apple event of the year, it promises the biggest shift Apple has made in recent years and will have a far-reaching impact on the company’s product approach going forward. We’re talking about the switch to in-house Apple silicon for its Mac hardware. Apple already gave us a glimpse of how Macs powered by its in-house silicon will handle things and the kind of performance we can expect. While Apple has been characteristically secretive about its hardware plans, some juicy information from reliable sources has already surfaced online. So, here’s everything we can expect from Apple’s One More Thing event:
Back in June, Apple announced that the transition from Intel to Apple Silicon will take at least a couple of years to complete, but the first Mac hardware with in-house processor will be showcased later this year. Making good on its promise, we have a November 10 event lined up for exciting new hardware announcements. As per a Bloomberg report, the company currently has a total of three MacBook models based on Apple silicon in the pipeline, all three of which have been allegedly been spotted in the code of macOS Big Sur.
A new 13-inch MacBook Air and MacBook Pro with Apple silicon
The company adds that the first wave of Mac hardware with Apple silicon will include a new 13-inch MacBook Air, a 13-inch MacBook Pro, and a 16-inch MacBook Pro. Apple and its overseas supply partners are reportedly switching into the top gear when it comes to the production of these three upcoming MacBooks. However, the smaller 13-inch MacBook Air and MacBook Pro are reportedly ahead in production, and these two are reportedly going to be showcased at Apple’s online event tomorrow.
But just in case you are expecting a major MacBook overhaul, there is some disappointing news. The upcoming MacBook Air and Pro models powered by Apple silicon will follow the same design language as their existing Intel-powered siblings. The only change will be the new processor and the GPU as well.
Talking about the Apple Silicon though, it will reportedly be based on the new A14 Bionic chip that you will also find inside the iPhone 12 series. And if the performance showcased by Apple on an A12Z-powered Mac in June is anything to go by, the new MacBooks will be powerful enough to easily handle demanding video editing and rendering software.
Another huge deal is a shared app ecosystem. Apple has already announced that Macs powered by Apple silicon will be able to natively run iPad and iPhone apps, something that is facilitated by the common 64-bit architecture used by the chips powering the upcoming Macs as well as the iPhones and iPads. Back in June, Apple also announced tools that will make it easier for developers to transition their apps from mobile to Mac platform without having to redesign or code them from scratch.
In addition to new MacBooks powered by Apple silicon, the company is reportedly working on a redesigned 24-inch iMac as well as updated Mac Pro and Mac Mini too. However, it is unclear when they will debut and how many of them will stick to Intel processors or if they will make the switch to Apple silicon at a pace faster than earlier anticipated.
Whatever be the case, Apple’s upcoming Mac event is going to change the Mac line forever, but only time will tell if it was yet another Apple masterstroke that will add more billions to its coffers, or if it was just an expensive failure.

A day ago, Apple released the first macOS Big Sur 11.0.1 beta for developers, which brings a host of bug fixes and performance improvements prior to its public release. While those are generic changes, the update does come with cryptic information about something really exciting – a reference to unreleased Macs, likely the new ones that will use Apple Silicon. Now, before your imagination goes into overdrive, the new devices are mentioned by internal codenames only and nothing about the product class.
Is Mac hardware with Apple silicon upon us?
The latest beta build carries two bundle files apparently denoting two unreleased Macs, while the previous macOS Big Sur beta update mentioned another model as well. Here are the file bundle names – MacHardwareTypes-2020f.bundle, MacHardwareTypes-2020g.bundle, and MacHardwareTypes-2020h.bundle. The references were first spotted by developer Hans Harck Tønning (@HarckerTech) who shared a screenshot of the file bundles on Twitter.

— Hans Harck Tønning (@HarckerTech) October 29, 2020
Now, it is hard to decipher whether these are codenames for a MacBook or iMac, but the ‘2020’ in the file names suggests that these could be unveiled later this year. Previous leaks suggest that Apple will hold an event next month, specifically on November 17, to announce new Mac hardware with Apple silicon inside. Now, we’ve heard rumors of a new 24-inch iMac being in the pipeline as well, but it is unclear if it will pack an Intel processor or it will be among the first Macs to draw power from in-house silicon.
However, if all three Mac devices that have been mentioned in macOS Big Sur beta updates debut at the same time, we are almost certainly getting new MacBooks, likely with Apple silicon inside. Back in June, Apple announced that the first Mac powered by custom silicon will arrive by the end of 2020. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo recently predicted that a redesigned 13.3-inch MacBook Pro powered by Apple Silicon will start shipping in the fourth quarter of 2020. Additionally, a new MacBook Air with in-house silicon is expected to go into production around the same time and will eventually debut early next year.

It seems that Apple is getting close to give us a new 16-inch MacBook Pro. The latest update for Boot Camp 6.1.13 includes a reference to the upcoming 2020 MacBook Pro version, which hasn’t launched yet, and a new report suggests that we may get a new Apple Silicon iMac with a new desktop-class A14T chip next year.
Boot Camp is a utility included in Mac devices that lets users switch between macOS and Windows. Its latest update reveals that this utility will improve the compatibility of Macs with running Windows. It also mentions improvements in audio recording quality when using the boult in microphone and fixes to stability issues that occur during heavy-duty CPU load on the 16-inch MacBook Pro (2019 and 2020) and 13-inch MacBook Pro (2020).
Now, the issue is that Apple hasn’t released a new 2020 16-inch MacBook Pro, which could mean that we will most likely get a 16-inch MacBook refresh in the upcoming months or that Apple just made a mistake. And since we’re already speculating, we will also mention the possibility of a new iMac with Apple Silicon that would arrive in the first half of 2021.
According to The China Times, Apple plans to give its users a new iMac with a brand new A14T chip. The iMac is said to be codenamed “Mt.Jade,” and it would be powered by its first custom-made desktop processor, codenamed “Lifuka.”
“In addition to the first Apple Silicon processor A14X for the MacBook, which is already in volume production using TSMC’s 5-nanometer technology, according to Apple’s supply chain, Apple will launch its first self-developed GPU under the research and development code name Lifuka next year, and its first desktop processor A14T under the research and development code name Mt.Jade, both produced using TSMC’s 5-nanometer process.”
Now, this report could be focused on Apple’s new A14 processor development, which could make all of this make sense. Let’s remember that rumors suggest that the first Apple devices to include Apple Silicon may be the iPad Pro and the MacBook Pro, which would include the Apple A14X processor, codenamed “Tonga.” Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has already predicted that these new models would launch in the fourth quarter of 2020 or early 2021, so we could soon get a new Apple event invitation.
Let’s remember that some rumors say that Apple may be hosting a new event on November 17, where we may see the arrival of Apple’s first Mac with a custom Apple Silicon processor. Nothing stops us from believing that we may see a new 16-inch or a 13-inch MacBook Pro, a MacBook Air with Apple Silicon. Let’s also remember that rumors suggest the return of a 12-inch MacBook Pro. But only time will tell.
