Heading in to this week, we knew that we’d be talking about Apple (a whole lot of Apple) and the courts, as Apple prepares to have its motion in the San Bernardino FBI case ruled upon tomorrow. Apple v. Samsung: Apple wants $180 million more

Apple wants a gift from Samsung. It’s money. Okay, it wouldn’t be a gift, it would be a favorable judgment in court. After a crucial Apple patent that was part of the basis of the company’s legal entanglement with Samsung was invalidated, Samsung paid up more than half a billion dollars in damages it owed to Apple. Samsung, in lieu of a reversal of judgment against the company, is ...

Samsung turns to Supreme Court in patent battle with Apple

Apple is eating Samsung’s market share even in South Korea

It’s regularly common for the citizens of many countries to show a certain degree of pride and nationalism for the products made in their respective territories. That has slowly changed though, as the whole concept of “Made In America” stopped being important in the US many years ago. You’d think that this would be important in countries like South Korea, and especially with Samsung’s world dominance ...

Samsung fined millions for leaking Apple/Nokia patent deal documents

One of the cool things about patent trials is that even though one company might accuse the other of infringement, the accused has a right to access confidential information from the accuser in order to defend itself. Such is the case of Samsung, as the company and its lawyers had access to all the Apple/Nokia patent deal documents that were confidential, but that were used in the recent trial that Samsung lost.Even though the documents were all stamped with “for attorney’s eyes only”, Samsung later quoted exact terms of the deal in its own negotiations with Nokia. Obviously ...

Apple claims that Samsung is “being difficult” about lawsuit negotiations

We’ve already learned what judges and juries think about the patent allegations between both companies, where Apple mostly turns-out victorious, but we also know that each company is being instructed to find a more amicable route to fixing these problems. If you’re wondering where these negotiations stand at the moment, well, let’s just say you won’t be surprised at what’s going ...

Google will pay for some of Samsung’s damages in case Apple wins the trial

We recently heard that Samsung would ask Google for some help in sending some of its founding Android engineers to take part in the Apple vs. Samsung trial, to which Google agreed. It’s only fair that Google participated in helping Samsung fix these issues since some of these patent claims have mainly to do with Android, and not necessarily TouchWiz. What we didn’t know is that Google had also decided to do more than just participate in the trial with its employees. It’s pretty much confirmed that Google will be paying for some of Samsung’s damages in case Apple ...
