You won’t believe all the deals that are available today from Apple, Samsung, LG and more

Deals. We have a bunch of deals to start the month of the June. Let’s start off with the latest 13in MacBook Pro which is $200 off on Amazon and Best Buy. This means you can get it for as low as $1099 for the 8GB of RAM, 256GB of storage variant. You can get other prices depending on the configuration. Amazon also has the Samsung Galaxy S10, bundled with the 44mm Galaxy Watch Active 2 for $999, you can also get it for $850 if you go for the 40mm variant. The LG G8 ThinQ is $350 off, leaving it at $400 shipped. We have more deals on the Google Pixel Slate, iPads, Apple Watches, Sony headphones and more in the links in the description.

Sony postpones PlayStation 5 event on June 4 due to ongoing unrest

Last week we covered how Sony would be hosting an event on June 4th to showcase their newest game titles for the upcoming PS5 but it looks like that won’t be the case. The company just announced that they will be postponing their event as they feel that right now is not a time to celebrate and that more important voices should be heard at the moment. The company hasn’t revealed when the event will happen but, we’ll keep you posted. Bravo Sony. Thank you for taking a stand.

Android 11 leak shows a redesigned power button menu, controls for smart devices

Google delays Android 11 Beta Launch Show event scheduled for June 3

Now, even if Google just postponed their Android 11 Developers Preview Event that was happening on June 3rd, we have some Android 11 leaks. The event was postponed indefinitely due to the protests and the situation in the US but they claim the full Android 11 launch won’t be delayed. These new leaks come from Twitter and they basically show us the Power Button menu where we see 5 controls like Emergency, Power Off, Restart, Screenshot as well as a new Quick Controls menu which shows your smart devices and wallet access. The leak also shows that we will be getting a UI redesign at least in things like these. Google, also thank you for taking a stand.

if your iPhone runs on iOS 13, it could also get the new iOS 14 update

For those of you battling a tough economy, holding on to your device a bit longer is always a welcome relief, and you know Apple does that best. We have a new leak of which devices will be getting iOS 14 this year. We should take this with a grain of salt as this source doesn’t have the greatest track record but, according to them some inside sources claim that all devices running iOS 13 will be able to run iOS 14. This means that if you still have an iPhone 6s or iPod Touch7th gen or later, you’ll be able to get the update. They didn’t provide any information on iPads but we’re hoping it’ll be the same case if this actually happens.

Galaxy Note 20 might be able to pack a battery as big as the Galaxy Note 20+

I think one of the biggest deterrents of the small Galaxy Note 20 was that you weren’t getting a Galaxy Note Quality battery, and it looks like Samsung noticed. Apparently the company doesn’t want to cheap out on the batteries for the Galaxy Note 20 line. It just went through China’s 3C Certification and it shows that the regular Galaxy Note 20 will bring a 4300 mAh battery that’s rated at 4170 mAh. As a reference, last year’s Note 10 brought a 3500 mAh battery while the Note 10+ brought a 4300 mAh battery. According to another leak we got last week, the Note 20+ will bring a 4500 mAh battery so Samsung is closing that gap between the two variants.

Story of the day:

New images of alleged iPhone 12 dummy units suggest some changes

iPhone 12 allegedly begins mass production in 3Q20 with October launch in sight

And finally the hottest news today has to do with iPhones, and the fact that things might not be so bad for the launch timing, nor components. According to a new DigiTimes report, this year’s iPhones won’t get the regular September launch and we’ll have to wait until October, which switches things from the November we had heard. Due to the travel bans Apple hasn’t been able to send enough engineers to China which has delayed the production. DigiTimes also claims that the 6.1in iPhone will start production earlier than the rest. This is the iPhone that will allegedly bring the LG and BOE displays. The report suggests that this may happen to make sure that these panels meet the quality standards as LG display has had issues in the past. The Samsung displays on the other 3 are also easier to manufacture as they eliminate a separate touch layer. We also have some dummies of the iPhone 12 line up from MacOtakara which show the 4 designs but these don’t show the smaller notch that we’re expecting.

Today’s deals include the 13-inch MacBook Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S10

The offical news today begin with deals on a ton of products, some great, some good. On the good list, well B&H currently has the 2019 13in MacBook Pro for $300 off. This is the 4-Thunderbolt 3 ports, Intel Core i5, 8GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage variant, leaving it at $1499 shipped. Yeah good because if you look at the newer one, that’s the better buy. Amazon has the 512GB Samsung Galaxy S10 for $300 off as well, leaving it at $700, though if you dig deeper, you can get the same S10 for $808 with the Galaxy Buds bundled. We also have more deals on Acer Laptops, Monitors, Nintendo Switch controllers and more in the link in the description.

It’s official! OnePlus will no longer make McLaren Edition smartphones

Earlier this month we covered how OnePlus’ name wasn’t on McLaren’s list of collaborators anymore. Now, a McLaren spokesperson just went on record and officially stated that their partnership has come to an end. According to him, it came to their scheduled conclusion and that OnePlus has been supportive and that they wish to see them in the future. We got two phones out of their partnership and we don’t know how they’ll handle the Concept One if it ever comes out, since yes, that was a McLaren phone.

Sony schedules a PlayStation 5 game reveal event on June 5

And listen, if there’s a time for gaming consoles, it’s now, as we need to stay at home, and it seems Sony is willing to bank on it. The company just announced that they’ll be hosting an event on June 4th for the PlayStation 5. Sony is promising to showcase ‘the future of gaming’ at this event which typically means that we’ll be seeing some games for the upcoming console. We haven’t gotten any other details from Sony but a recent report claims that they might show a total of 38 games including a bunch of exclusives. The event will be live on YouTube and Twitch and we hope to get to see some hardware as well. Let’s also hope that hardware is not crazy expensive, as that would be unrealistic in today’s economy.

Apple needs an urgent supply of LCD panels from LG Display

It looks like the pandemic is affecting Apple in sales but not in the conventional way. Cupertino originally cut orders for their products in Q2 to anticipate the pandemic. What they didn’t anticipate is that due to the transition to e-learning, iPad stocks in China have been down since March because most parents have bought one for their kids to attend school from home. This would be good for Apple if they wouldn’t have cut orders before, and now they’re urgently asking LG for LCD panels to meet their iPad demands. The problem is, these requests usually come three months in advance to give room for LG to prepare. Apple has other providers for the iPad displays like BOE and Sharp, but LG might want to answer this because of their deal to supply displays for the iPhone 12 Max. Clearly this is a good problem to have right now.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20+ cameras leaked?

According to this new leak, the Galaxy Note 20 will fix some of the focusing issues we had with the S20 Ultra from a hardware perspective. The leak gives us both of the camera arrays, the regular Note 20 will apparently bring a 12MP main sensor, a 64MP telephoto, and a 12MP Ultra Wide. On the other side, the Note 20+ will bring the 108MP main sensor, a 12MP telephoto, a 12MP ultra wide and laser autofocus. The laser autofocus would help the main sensor to lock into subjects and while the 12MP telephoto doesn’t sound as impressive in paper as the S20 Ultras 48MP, the 12MP telephoto might help out during pixel binning as the Ultra does create 12MP images after all. It looks like the camera won’t be that different from the S20’s, let’s just hope they refine it. Now if only they included the return of variable aperture. A sensor this large needs it.

Story of the day:

Pixel 4a XL leaks show what the phone looked like before it was canceled

And finally the most interesting news today have to do with the Google Pixel 4a XL. I know, that one that apparently won’t get to ever be. Most of the leaks have hinted that there won’t be a 4a XL variant this year but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t in development. We have some leaked images from 9to5Google of Pixel 4a cases where we see the familiar design. It has the orange Power button, the hole for the fingerprint scanner at the back and the 3.5mm headphone jack. However, the camera cutout shows too lenses here and we’re only expecting a single shooter for the 4a. We also have some CAD renders of the phone which show the dual lens camera and the punch hole at the front. Why dual cameras on this phone and not on the small variant is a good question, but even more important, why do you think Google cancelled this phone?

Pocketnow Daily: iPhone 13 Camera Leak Says A LOT about iPhone 12… (video)

Today we find the Google Pixel 3a and more products on sale

Deals. Best Buy currently has the Google Pixel 3a for $230 for the 64GB variant, however, the Pixel 3a XL is just $270 for the 64GB variant as well. Amazon currently has the Beats Solo 3 with a slight $20 discount, leaving them at $179 shipped. The Galaxy Watch Active 2 is up to $75 off at both Amazon and B&H, which for those of you who always ask, yes that’s the watch I wear, and depending on the color variant you can get it for as low as $224. I say go silver as it’s easier to blend with 3rd party watch faces that age better. We also have more deals on Fender speakers, smart-thermostats and more in the links in the description.

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Watch Active stops by FCC, revealing some juicy details

And speaking of my smartwatch of choice, we have some new leaks for the upcoming Galaxy Watch which we’re expecting to see in August. It just went through a new certification from the FCC revealing some new specs. We have two new sketches, the new Galaxy Watch will bring a 45mm stainless steel case, and it should also come in titanium and aluminum. It brings GPS and LTE connectivity and it will allegedly simply be called Galaxy Watch. However, we also have a sketch for the Galaxy Watch 2 but it doesn’t show the full name either or much details about it. So yeah, we wonder what they mean with that 2.

OPPO could have Qualcomm, MediaTek and HiSilicon engineers working on its new chip

OPPO has been working on bringing their own SoC to the market for a while now. According to a new Nikkei Asian report, OPPO is aggressively recruiting engineers from well-known companies to work on their new SoC. The report claims that they are in contact with MediaTek, UniSoc and other inside sources say that they are also in talks with Qualcomm and Huawei’s HiSilicon. An OPPO representative said that they are investing heavily in R&D to strengthen and simplify supply chain. Obviously we won’t be getting this anytime soon and it might take a couple of years, got It’s interesting to see how OPPO keeps evolving, and we know how that impacts other popular brands like OnePlus.

Instagram will soon monetize IGTV videos for online video creators to earn money

It’s no secret that people have been earning money through Instagram for the longest time but not necessarily through Instagram. You mostly had to do sponsored content from third parties and well the company is finally ready to monetize content for their creators. The company is rolling out new tools to introduce ads and allow creators to sell badges through IGTV. When it comes to the ads, they’ll be built for mobile and last 15 seconds each, 55% of the ad revenue will go to the creators. The badges will be kind of like a Twitch subscription where a fan would purchase it, get a special badge in the comments and they will get access to certain different perks. Badges will begin testing next month in certain countries and ads should start rolling out as of right now with some specific creators. We have a full list in the links in the description.

Color options for the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series may have been leaked

We’ve been getting a lot of leaks for the Galaxy Note 20 line-up as we get closer to August. Recently we got different CAD renders showing off the design and now we get some leaked color variants. According to an inside source, the regular Note 20 will come in gray, green, and copper color variants while the Note 20+ will come in black and copper flavors. It looks like Samsung is looking for more simplified colors when compared to the flashy color variants from the Note 10, the source also claims that it won’t be the same copper variant we got with the Note 9 and instead it will be more of a gold-ish hue. It’s also possible that these aren’t all the colors as Samsung always launches more after the fact.

Story of the day:

The iPhone 13 may come with a killer camera according to the latest leak

And finally the hottest news today have to do with the iPhone 12, or should I say iPhone 13. Not sure if you noticed but every time Apple makes a change in design, that becomes the major feature, and not really any bump in specs or functionality. Well, it seems that’ll be the case this year. Like sure, we’ve been hearing about different changes for the iPhone 12 like the removal of the Lightning Earbuds, the LiDAR sensor and more, but it seems like major changes will happen until the iPhone 13. We covered the going port-less theory a few days ago, and now, we have some new leaks, The same source claims that these leaks should be taken with a huge amount of salt but it looks like Apple is going for major camera improvements until next year. He claims that we’ll be getting a quad camera array that includes a 64MP main sensor. Yeah 1x optical zoom is no x, but it does seem to bring 6x digital from it. Then there’s a 40MP telephoto with up to 5x optical zoom in addition, and then a 64MP anamorphic lens for video capture, plus a 40MP ultra wide and the LiDAR sensor we’re expecting for the iPhone 12. Yeah that’s a lot of camera Subscribe: http://bit.ly/pocketnowsub http://pocketnow.com Follow us: http://flipboard.com/@Pocketnow http://facebook.com/pocketnow http://twitter.com/pocketnow http://google.com/+pocketnow

We also have more deals on Acer Predator PCs, Samsung QLED TVs, Soundbars and more in the links in the description.

Samsung Money by Sofi will come to the US later this summer

Samsung just launched a new mobile money management system which pretty much competes with the Apple Card. It’s called Samsung Money by SoFi but unlike the Apple Card, it isn’t really a credit card. It’s actually more of a bank account or credit union where you get a MasterCard debit card that doesn’t show any of your information and it works with the Samsung Pay app. Your Samsung Money account will be FDIC insured for $1.5M and users benefit from Samsung’s “defense-grade” security from Samsung Knox. It’ll be available later this summer exclusively for US customers who own a Galaxy smartphone, Samsung promises a secure experience with no account fees.

The iPhone 11 is now the most popular smartphone in the world

We got some quarter results from Omdia and it just confirms that Apple made a big dent on the market with the iPhone 11. Last year the iPhone XR was the number 1 smartphone for Q1 with 13.6M units shipped, but this year the iPhone 11 surpassed it with 19.5M units, despite the pandemic. The phone that follows is the Samsung Galaxy A51 which sold 6.8M units and the iPhone XR is still in the top 5 with 4.7M units. Omdia still anticipates however, that smartphone sales will be down for the rest of the year due to the pandemic so numbers might change for Q2.

Google reveals Android 11 Beta Launch Show schedule on June 3. Here’s how to watch

Google is finally releasing the first Public Beta of Android 11 on June 3rd during their Beta Launch Show. If you want, you’ll be able to attend via YouTube through the Android Developers channel. The event will focus on the different announcements related to all the new features coming with Android 11, as well as Q&As with Google experts and more. We were also expecting to hear something about the Pixel 4a but with the recent delays that apparently won’t be the case. You can check for the events details in the links in our description. It’s not clear which devices will support the public beta on day one, but if you’re not using a Pixel, yeah that’s gonna be a tough one.

Samsung Galaxy Fold 2 could be launched in August, as it reportedly enters mass production

There’s been several rumors that we’ll finally be getting the Galaxy Fold’s successor with the Note 20 this year. Now we got a new report from a South Korean publication that claims that the Fold 2 has just entered mass production. This means we could start getting some official details as early as June. According to the Insiders, the Fold 2 will bring Samsung’s Ultra Thin Glass and it will cost less, despite upgrading to a 120Hz display. Recently we got some patents from Samsung which described how Samsung plans to make Foldables water resistant but it’s not clear if the Fold 2 will bring this feature. The company is expecting to sell 2.5-3M units this year, surpassing the original Fold.

Story of the day:

We may have to wait until November for the iPhone 12 series

It looks like we will have to wait for the iPhone 12 line-up after all this year. According to a new report, this year’s iPhones might be launched until November due to the pandemic. The report also predicts that Apple has 35M units in production for Q2 of 2020 which is 13% lower than what they had last year, but giving the time, we’re not sure if they’re talking about iPhone 12 production, which would be kind of early, or iPhone 11 production which is likely to take a dip. Regardless, we’re expecting 4 different iPhones, all 4 with OLED displays, 5G connectivity, a smaller notch and a boxier design which is reminiscent of the iPhone 4. We’re also hearing of different spec bumps like up to 6GB of RAM in the Pro models and the base storage at 128GB.

However, Sony is giving away the WF-1000MX3’s to sweeten the deal for you. You can check for more info in the links in our description.

“OnePlus Buds” could be the name of OnePlus’ TWS earphones

We’ve been hearing that OnePlus is working on some Truly Wireless Earbuds for a while now which have been tipped for a July launch. Now, the same source just shared a new sketch of the buds, which still looks like a combination of the regular AirPods with the Pixel Buds case. They’re reportedly going to be called the OnePlus Buds and they’re expected to have support for touch controls, the Google Assistant, and fast-pairing with OnePlus phones. We don’t have any more details but we’ll see them soon enough.

Apple might offer health monitoring capabilities on AirPods in the next few years

Speaking of earbuds, it looks like Apple wants to bring some health improvements to the AirPods in the next few years. According to two new DigiTimes reports, Apple has roped in ASE Technology to supply components to add ambient light sensors for health monitoring duties. These light sensors would pass light through your skin to check blood movement in the vessels to detect your heart rate and any other data. However, this would require a redesign for the AirPods and it will most likely come in the next 1-2 years.

Motorola RAZR successor’s specs allegedly leaked, arriving in September

Last week Lenovo’s South African GM leaked that Motorola is working on a second generation Moto RAZR and now, leaks naturally follow. We have some new leaked specs from XDA that include a Snapdragon 765G SoC which is certainly an upgrade from the 710 we got with the original RAZR. It also packs 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. It’ll bring a 2845 mAh battery as well as a 48MP main camera and a 20MP selfie shooter. It’s also expected to bring 5G, but only on sub 6GHz networks. This phone should come in September according to the leaks the GM shared.

Story of the day:

Galaxy Note 20+ leaked renders show a familiar design and ginormous camera bump

We have some new renders for the Galaxy Note 20 and they actually come from OnLeaks this time. They’re slightly different than the ones we got last week but retain some of the same elements. According to the leaks, this phone will bring a 6.9in AMOLED display with the centered punch hole. Now, at the back we have a huge camera hump that might even be bigger than the Galaxy S20 Ultra. We have three lenses that kind of remind us of the iPhone 11 line up because of the rings for each camera, as well as a ToF sensor. We’re also able to see the periscope zoom lens but it’s not clear if this one will have 100x capabilities like the S20 Ultra did. This leaks also retain the changes like moving the buttons to the right and the S Pen to the left of the phone. Here’s your first official look at the VIVO X50 and X50 Pro

Oh so you thought the Galaxy S20 had a big camera hump? Well, vivo has been teasing their new X50 Pro which brings a gimbal like main camera. The company just released a new poster of the phone which shows the quad camera module with the huge main sensor. This main camera is a Samsung 50MP ISOCELL GN1 Sensor which comes with Dual Pixel PDAF tech for faster focusing, it basically rotates on it’s axis like a gimbal for better stabilization. The other cameras include a periscope, and most likely a wide angle and a macro camera. We’re expecting the vivo X50 lineup to launch on June 1.

ASUS ROG Phone III and ZenFone 7 to debut around July: Report

Back in February Qualcomm gave us a list of phones that would bring the Snapdragon 865 and, that list included two ASUS phones. It looks like both of those phones are ready to launch according to a new report from Taiwan which claims that the ROG Phone 3 and the ZenFone 7 will either in Q2 or early Q3 of 2020. Going by last year’s launch date, if they do launch in July or August they will be late by a couple of months when compared to their predecessors but, the market isn’t in the same state as it was last year. The company is currently targeting a 30-50% growth in sales for the ROG Phone 3. We’ll keep you posted in case we get more leaks.

Second-gen Moto Razr foldable phone could be launched in September

We all know how excited I was for the Moto RAZR last year, and we all know how that turned out. Well, according to Lenovo’s South African GM, the company is already working on a second generation device and it is supposed to come out in September. He actually mentioned the words “generation two” twice during a podcast while talking about the RAZR. Leaks will most likely start coming in soon and we hope it brings better specifications for the price tag, nostalgia can only go so far.

Apple may have started the production of the new AirPods Studio

A new DigiTimes report claims that we’ll be getting Apple’s AirPods Studio sooner rather than later. The report mentions the fact that Apple will be dropping the wired earphones from the iPhone 12’s box like we covered yesterday. It also mentions that Cupertino will resume regular shipments of the AirPods 2 in the second half of this year, which we wonder if it has anything to do with the move of production to Vietnam, but that does match the timing of the possible AirPods Studio. The company has apparently already started production for these and we could see an announcement at WWDC and they might cost $350.

Story of the day:

We may get a Periscope camera in the Samsung Galaxy Note 20+

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 could’ve appeared in some hot looking renders

We recently got some sketches for the Galaxy Note 20′s design from Ice Universe. Now we got the first renders which were made based on that leaked design. The phone looks pretty similar to the Note 10 from the front with the very boxy design but it does bring some changes. The camera on this one has a larger hump, like the one on the S20 Ultra, the buttons are also on the right side and the S Pen was moved to the left. Like seriously, common sense changes. Now, these aren’t the official renders just yet but, this gives us a pretty good idea of what it might look like according to the sketches. Galaxy Club just found some new information and they claim that the Note 20+ will most likely bring a periscope camera. It isn’t clear if it will be the same one on the S20 Ultra and some other rumors claim that it won’t bring 100X zoom, but it pretty much explains the large camera hump for this phone as well.

Razer’s new Blade 17 Pro offers a 300Hz display and NVIDIA’s RTX 2080 Super graphics

Razer just refreshed their Blade 17 Pro Laptop for this year in two different variants, and let’s just say both are insane in their own way. Asus ROG Phone 3 reportedly spotted on WiFi Alliance and Geekbench

We know a lot of you are huge fans of the ASUS ROG Phones and it looks like we might be getting another one soon, thought this one doesn’t seem like the powerhouse its predecessors were. It was just spotted on Geekbench and the WiFi Alliance, sporting the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, 8GB of RAM and running Android 10. The model number is pretty similar to the one we got for the ROG Phone 2 so it only makes sense. This phone could launch in the second half of the year, we’ll keep you posted once we get more leaks.

It seems that Amazon Prime Day sales will be delayed until September

The WSJ claims that Amazon will be delaying their Prime Day this year for, obvious reasons. Previous reports speculated that they would delay it until August but this report claims that they will be pushing it back until September. This delay would create room for more inventory and prepare shipping for more types of products. This will most likely not hurt Amazon too much but instead the third party companies that get more sales through Prime Day. We don’t have an official date for Prime Date yet, but it won’t happen in July. Thing is, let’s be honest. I don’t think anyone is really looking for some crazy shopping in the current state of the economy.

The iPhone 12 may arrive without bundled earphones

According to Ming Chi Kuo, Apple is ready to make their next courageous move. In his latest report, Apple will stop shipping wired EarPods inside the iPhone 12 lineup’s box. This would create an inconvenience for most of the consumers which use these earbuds but, it would also boost up AirPods sales for the holidays. This goes along with Kuo’s report that Apple won’t be releasing more AirPods this year, as they might be trying to sell as much from the current models as they can. Some sources claim that we might get an AirPods bundle with the iPhone 12 but, you never know with Apple. Now why is this important? I know most Android OEMS don’t bundle earbuds, but the iPhone was always meant to be a successor to the iPod. It’s been legendarily known for the earbuds in the box since generation 1. You see people with them all the time. Oh well..

Story of the day:

Pixel 4a reportedly delayed again, might now be announced on July 13

And finally the most interesting news today continue to be Google Pixel 4a, but NOT necessarily for good reasons today. We’ve been getting more and more Pixel leaks lately because, we thought we were getting closer to the launch date for the 4a. First we were expecting it to launch around May 15th but that was clearly delayed, and we were expecting a June launch which made sense because of the Android 11 Event but it seems that won’t be the case, again… Gotta hand it to Jon Prosser for his track record in leaks, and in his new report, the Pixel 4a will be delayed once again and it will get a July 13th announcement. According to his sources, the phone is ready to ship but it keeps getting pushed because of the market’s condition due to the pandemic. Apparently it will bring a regular Snapdragon 7 Series chip with no 5G, and he also pretty much confirms that we won’t be getting an XL variant after all. The Pixel 5 might get pushed back as well.

iOS 13.5 brings Exposure Notification API, faster unlock experience while wearing a mask

Apple just started rolling out iOS 13.5 which brings some changes directly related to the pandemic. For starters, it brings the new notification exposure API they built with Google which is the foundation on which contact tracing apps will be developed. Other key features include Face ID now detecting that you’re wearing a mask and immediately asks for your password instead of it taking forever to realize, it also works with Apple Pay and other apps. We have the full list of changes in the description.

OnePlus might not launch another McLaren Edition phone in the future

Remember the phone with the coolest name ever? Yes, we’re talking about the OnePlus 7T Pro 5G McLaren Edition. It seems we won’t have another one to mock as, OnePlus is no longer listed in the official McLaren partners page. None of the companies has made a statement yet but it seems that their partnership has come to an end, meaning that we won’t see any McLaren branded phone from OnePlus soon. It could be a mistake or part of a strategy but, the logo still isn’t back on the site. We’ll keep you posted in case we have official statements. Let’s hope that if they do decide to work together again, the name becomes a bit less ridiculous.

We have new details about the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 launch event

Now as for some sad possible updates from the pandemic, well, Samsung usually hosts two major Unpacked Events each year for their flagship releases but. I’m actually shocked we still got the February Unpacked. Thing is, for obvious reasons this year will be different. According to a report from South Korea, Samsung has already taken their decision and this will be the first time ever that the company is releasing a flagship online. We get tons of silent releases online from Samsung but they will obviously have some sort of event for the Note’s Unpacked. The event is still slated for August but we don’t have any specific dates yet. Some other products we might get at this event include obviously the Galaxy Note 20, the Galaxy Fold 2 and some wearables.

Samsung Galaxy S21 could arrive with Chinese OLED displays

A couple of weeks ago we reported that Samsung could be ditching Samsung Display for the Galaxy S21 but, not entirely. According to some industry insiders, after a month of preliminary negotiations, Samsung just sent an official request for quotation to BOE which hints to the deal happening and also the fact that they are already working on the S21. Now, it isn’t clear if we’ll be getting a Galaxy S21 Ultra but, that one wouldn’t be using a BOE display because these orders are for 90Hz displays. They have also sent a quotation request to Samsung Display for 60Hz and 120Hz displays so, they aren’t leaving them completely. According to other insiders, Samsung is trying to get Samsung Display to lower the price on the panels and the threat of having BOE replace them might work.

Story of the day:

More rumors say that the Google Pixel 5 will have a mid-range processor

And finally, let’s call this the most interesting news today. I mean, Pixels have taken the spotlight for weeks now, though I wish they would sell as much as people care about the news. Thing is we’ve been getting several rumors that the Google Pixel 5 might not be a flagship. Yesterday we covered the fact that a Google survey showed that this phone might cost as low as $699. Now, XDA has found some new evidence in the Android 11 Developer Preview that hint to the Pixel 5 bringing the Snapdragon 765G processor. It isn’t clear if it will be the 765G or the new 768G but it is compatible to what they found in the new Google Camera APK for upcoming Pixel phones. The price tag also hints that this phone might not bring a Snapdragon 865 after all.

T-Mobile will begin to sunset Sprint this summer for creating a unified brand

The T-Mobile and Sprint merger has been going on for a while now and it finally saw some completion on April 1st. The company made it clear that they would basically ditch the Sprint moniker and call it “The new T-Mobile”. At an investors event they just shared that they are planning a summer timeframe to start creating their unified strategy and simply advertising T-Mobile. If you are on Sprint, they did promise that users will remain on their carrier plans but they will eventually be moved to T-Mobile. What we do know is that you will start seing the Sprint brand disappear everywhere as of now, so don’t be surprised.

HTC could be prepping to launch wireless earbuds, images surface

Do you remember HTC? Well we’re still waiting on that flagship phone the company promised but, it seems they’re making some True Wireless Earbuds. These new earbuds are apparently called the HTC U Ear and they just appeared on the FCC website. The design… looks pretty similar to the regular AirPods, except for the fact that this is a glossy black color variant, which means they look like the Huawei Freebuds 3. We also get pictures of the case which also looks like the AirPods case but, the earbuds lie horizontally on the case instead of vertically like the AirPods.

OnePlus’ true wireless earbuds might be another AirPods clones arriving in July

Speaking of AirPods clones, we have a new leak of OnePlus‘ upcoming true wireless earbuds. The picture hints to a July release date and shows off a design that looks pretty much like AirPods except for a few details. The source also put out a different tweet which says “SOON” and the two O’s are earbud cases, and these actually look exactly like the new Pixel Buds case. We’ve also had other leaks from the same source which hinted to the OnePlus Z coming in July so it makes sense for them to launch together.

Microsoft Surface Duo leak reveals dated specs inside a foldable form factor

Microsoft announced the Surface Duo… last year, and it is slated to come out by the holidays this year. Now we have some more detailed and kind of underwhelming specs from Windows Central. It will reportedly feature two 5.6in AMOLED displays, with the 360 degree hinge. It will sadly be powered by the Snapdragon 855, a 3460 mAh battery, 6GB of RAM and up to 256GB of storage. There’s no NFC support, no 5G and it will apparently run a heavily skinned version of Android 10. It’ll bring a single 11MP f/2.0 camera which will also serve as the selfie camera. Like, unless Microsoft is pricing this bellow $1000, we wonder exactly who it’s gonna be for.

Story of the day:

US takes another step to block HUAWEI’s global chip supply, China warns of retaliation

Earlier this week we reported that the US was extending the ban on Huawei for another year but, they didn’t stop there. The US Commerce Department has announced plans to block Huawei’s access to global semiconductors shipments that come directly from US Sources. The main goal is to stop Huawei from using solutions provided by US companies. According to Reuters, right after the US announced these plans, China decided to hit back. They are warning the US of some retaliatory measures which would include putting US companies on their own “unreliable entities” list. China would impose this ban on companies like Apple, Qualcomm, Cisco and more. On a separate report, the President of the US plans to add more taxes on companies like Apple which manufacture their products outside of the US with the goal of having them manufacture in the US again. The current tariffs have already cost American companies around $46B and these new ones might force companies like Apple to raise prices if they don’t move their operation. The 2018 iPad Pros are also $217 off, leaving the 11in variant starting at $800. Buy Mac Pro Buy MacBook Pro Buy Apple Mac mini Buy Apple iPad Pro Buy Garmin Fenix 6 Sapphire

Dell redesigns XPS 15, unveils XPS 17 rocking latest Intel processors and NVIDIA GPUs

Now, for those of you that aren’t interested in a Mac, we finally get some good looking competition to return along with the recent launches from Microsoft. After three years of recycled designs, Dell is finally updating their XPS Laptops. The company just announced a new XPS 15 Ultrabook and the XPS 17 which Dell claims is the smallest 17in laptop there is. To make matters more special is the price tag. The XPS 15 starts at $1300 for base configuration, but your upgrade options can get up to a 10th Gen Intel Core i7, 32GB of RAM and 1TB of storage, starting but that’ll hold you back $2449. The XPS 17 starts at $1499 for the base model, but configurations allow up to an octa-core 10th gen Intel Core i7, and up to 64GB of RAM, but that price is a steep.

Epic Games Store is down because everyone wants a free copy of GTA 5

Epic Games is notorious for giving you free games each month and this time they have a special one. GTA V Premium Edition is currently available for free but, there’s a problem… There was so much people trying to download it that the servers were completely down and you would simply get an error screen when you try to download it. It is running back now as my son just purchased it but if it isn’t working for you, the sale will go on until May 21st.

Apple to launch a new 10.8-inch iPad in 2020, iPad Mini to follow next year: Ming-Chi Kuo

We have a new report from Ming Chi Kuo with Apple’s roadmap for different products. He predicts that the Apple AR Glasses will launch some time in 2022, and they’ll be reliant on the iPhone to keep them slim and lightweight. They are expected to run Reality OS or rOS, and Apple is currently exploring touch panels, voice activation and gestures. Moving on to iPads he claims we will be getting two new iPad soon. A 10.8in iPad and a 8.5-9in iPad Mini for the second half of 2020 and the first half of 2021 respectively. These new iPads will follow on the iPhone SE product strategy with an affordable price tag and the adoption of newer, faster chips. On a previous note he also said that they are working on a miniLED iPad Mini which could be released later this year but it is not clear if this is the same one.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series may arrive with a 16GB RAM standard

We’re still a few months away but we’ve been getting a good amount of leaks for the Galaxy Note 20 line up. The same source from the previous leaks claims that one of the ways Samsung plans to differentiate the Note 20 from the S20 is with RAM. Apparently these could bring 16GB of RAM as a standard for both the Note 20 and the Note 20+. Currently, the only Galaxy S with 16GB of RAM, is the Ultra 5G with 512GB of storage. Samsung has been mass producing LPDDR5 RAM chips for mobile since February, and since the Ultra hasn’t sold too well, this might be a way of getting rid of the extra inventory. We are expecting both LTE and 5G variants so we don’t know yet if it will only be a standard on the 5G variants or on all of them. The source also claims that these are getting larger on-display ultra sonic fingerprint scanners from Qualcomm with an area 17x larger than before.

Story of the day:

New Google Pixel 4a could be more affordable than iPhone SE

And finally the hottest news today have to do with the gift that could keep on giving, the Google Piourse there can’t be no Pixel launch without the incredible amount of leaks. Now, we have the wallpapers for the 4a because, there’s nothing else to leak from the same source we had before. And if you want to, you can actually download these as the source uploaded them to a shareable folder so, we have them in the links in the description. All 16 of them. More importantly, all of the leaks hinted that the Pixel 4a would start at $339, like the iPhone SE but some new information claims that the Google Pixel 4a might undercut the iPhone SE by $50 or more, meaning that the 128GB Pixel 4a would cost $349 so there is a possibility that the 64GB variant could cost $299. President Trump extends US trade ban on HUAWEI for another year

It’s been a year since the whole Huawei trade war started which means, Huawei has been banned of working with US entities like Google for a year now. If you were expecting Google Play Services to come back to Huawei devices, you’re out of luck because President Trump just signed a new 1 year extension on the ban. This means that Huawei will have to “survive” without working with Google and other US companies until May 2021. We have the specifics of the extension in the link in the description.

LG Wing to arrive in H2 to redesign the Second Screen to a rotating design

We know that LG is reluctant to hop on the foldable trend so they have been making dual displays instead. A new report claims that the company is working on a phone codenamed ‘Wing’ which would have the secondary display in a swivel design for it to become a rotating display. The main display would be a 6.8in panel which will rotate to a T-Shape, revealing the secondary 4in display. Their current dual displays are focused on productivity while this one would be more focused on immersion, with capabilities like having you edit a picture in the main display while the controls are on the secondary display. This phone is expected to come out in the second half of 2020, probably at IFA.

The brains behind Pixel phones’ great camera performance has left Google

The Google Pixels are known for their cameras but, the brains behind these cameras just left the company. According to The Information, Marc Levoy who led the computational photography team which is responsible for things like Night sight and HDR+ left the company back in March. Yes this is the guy who was famous for saying that UltraWide is nice, but they believe Telephoto is better. Some other reports claim that executives like Rick Osterloh weren’t happy with the Google Pixel 4’s performance and sales, with it selling less than the Pixel 3 and 3a. Which might be another reason why many people have been leaving the company since January, like the GM and VP who responded directly to the CEO.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 won’t have a LTPO and 120Hz display after all

It seems that this year we’ll see more differences between the Note 20 and the larger Note 20+. We recently got some leaks for the Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20+ displays. Now, the same source claims that the Note 20+ will bring that 120Hz LTPO display but, the regular Note won’t and will stick to an LTPS 60Hz panel. In theory, you should still be able to get 120Hz with LTPS but, it will consume a lot of power so it might not make it to this phone. He also claims that the price for this regular Note 20 will be significantly cheaper, around Note 10 Lite territory.

Story of the day:

These are the results of the Google Pixel 4a’s performance and battery test

We have a full on hands on video of the Google Pixel 4a which just went through some benchmarks and tests. Now, this unit is clearly a pre-production unit as you can clearly tell it has some funky software and it won’t be what you will most likely get at retail. The benchmarks show that it is slightly less powerful than the Pixel 3 XL and it’s also less powerful than the regular Pixel 4. The video also shows a battery test for the 3080 mAh battery which show 5 and 7hrs of screen on-time which doesn’t really reflect real life. We’re expecting this phone to come out in a little less than a month.

Huawei just launched a new updated to the P30 Pro… yes, the P30. This new P30 Pro ‘New Edition‘ was just announced for the German market with the same design and specifications as last year’s P30 Pro. However, this one runs the latest Android 10-based EMUI with support for Google Apps. Nokia 9.3 PureView could feature 8K video recording, improved Pro and Night Modes

We’ve been getting a good amount of leaks of the upcoming Nokia 9.3 PureView. According to a new report, the 9.3 might be able to capture 8K video at 30fps. The problem is that the source claims that the feature is currently only available on a prototype variant and may not make it to the final product. However, Nokia’s imaging team said that they are hard at work on their Night Mode and Pro Modes. The phone is expected to bring a 64MP or 108MP main sensor and we’re expecting it sometime later this year.

A new, Samsung Galaxy Fold Lite may be coming for less than $1,100

According to a new tweet, Samsung might be working on a Lite and affordable variant of the Galaxy Fold. We’ve been hearing codenames for the longest time including Winner2 and Winner2 5G. According to the tipster, the regular Winner2 might correspond to a Galaxy Fold 2 Lite instead of the actual Galaxy Fold 2. The Fold Lite would aim to go on sale for $1099 by using a mix of components that includes components from 2018, 2019 and 2020 and it also won’t benefit from Samsung’s Ultra Thin Glass. This Fold would bring 256GB of storage and it may or may not bring the Snapdragon 865. It would be built out of aluminum and bring a considerably small cover display, kind of like the Z Flips.

Apple’s new AirPods Studio may include head and neck detention

We have a new report with positive rumors for the AirPods Studio. Apparently these will bring Head and Neck detection, similar to the AirPods and AirPods Pro Ear Detection, which pauses a song once you take one of them out. The Studios would know when you have them on your head and will pause whatever you’re playing if you move them over to your neck. Another sensor will also detect your left and right ear to immediately adjust the audio channels, so there is no wrong or right way to put them on. Once you pair them they will apparently also bring a customizable EQ as well. Other rumored features include ANC and those interchangeable bands we discussed yesterday.

Story of the day:

POCO F2 Pro with Snapdragon 865 SoC goes official for €499

After almost two years, the successor to the POCO F1 is finally here. The POCO F2 Pro was announced today and it’s not as bad as we thought. It brings a 6.67in Full HD+ display which achieves a 92.7% screen to body ratio. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 865, either 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of storage, or 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of storage along with a 4700 mAh battery. It brings a 64MP main sensor at the back, a 7MP ultra wide, a 2MP depth sensor and a 5MP macro lens. It brings an on-display fingerprint scanner, dual Sim capabilities, a headphone jack and more. It will be available in 4 different color variants starting at €499 and going up to €599 for the higher tier variant. It will roll out globally starting today. For comparison, if you try to buy an iPhone SE in Italy, it’ll start at the same €499 with other countries like Germany having it for €479 for an old design with no 5G support. Just like in India where the F2 Pro starts at Rs 40,740 while the SE will cost you Rs 42,500.

Qualcomm just announced a successor to their premium mid-ranger SoC line with the 768G. It is based on Samsung 7nm EUV technology and it packs and Adreno 620 GPU, as well as the Snapdragon X52 modem for ‘true 5G speeds’, including mmWave and sub6GHz. It offers a 15% faster CPU and GPU performance when compared to the 765G which was released in December. You can find the full list of specifics in the description and it will reportedly be on the Redmi K30 5G which was actually waiting on this processor to launch.

These could be the color and storage options of the new Poco F2 Pro

The POCO F2 Pro is finally coming tomorrow and we have some final leaks before the release. The renders show the phone with a full display design, no punch hole or notch. The source also claims 4 different color variants: Black or Grey, Blue, Purple and White… pretty much like the K30 Pro.. It will also come in two storage options, 128GB and 256GB. The leaked price tag is still set to cost between €600 and €650 in Europe, depending on the taxes and mainly due to 5G. The report claims that some markets might not even get the 5G variants to bring the price down.

Apple AirPods Studio are the rumored upcoming over-ear headphones

Even with all of the delays Apple is still pushing to release at least some of their products this year. According to a new Bloomberg report, Apple’s over the ear headphones will be called AirPods Studio and they will feature a magnetic design which would make them customizable with interchangeable parts, like a selection of different headband styles. These are expected to come out some time later this year for a price around
$349.

We may have to wait until June for the launch of the Google Pixel 4a

As per usual, we’ve gotten a ton of rumors and leaks of the Google Pixel 4a, including retail boxes, sample images, and billboards. Google I/O was supposed to happen this week, before the pandemic. A leak suggested that the phone might be available for purchase on May 22nd, hinting to a May 15th launch date. According to a German publication and a Vodafone listing, that might not happen and we might have to wait until June 5 to be able to purchase. We know that Google’s Android 11 Event will be happening on June 3rd so Google is apparently waiting to announce it in that event.

Story of the day:

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 will get better display, but no Ultra variant

We have some new leaks for the Galaxy Note 20 where the source is stating that we might not get a Note 20 Ultra this year. Aparently we’re still only getting two Galaxy Notes, or only two with a flat slab design. When it comes to the Galaxy Note 20+, the display will grow from 6.8-in to 6.87-in, with the resolution increasing to 3096 x 1444p, resulting in a 497 PPI. It will have a 19.3:9 aspect ratio and a 120Hz refresh rate with LTPO for variable refresh rate. The regular Note 20 will have a 6.42-in display, still at 1080p+ resolution and a 120Hz mode as well. This LTPO tech offers 5-15% in power savings, when compared to a regular panel. Ice Universe also confirmed these leaks, but obviously we’ll have to get back to you on timing.

The new Chromecast could arrive with a new name and Android TV

A new report claims that the Chromecast might be going through some changes soon. Apparently it will now be called Nest Cast and it will run full blown Android TV. Instead of having the content cast directly from your phone or other device, users would be able to use a remote to interact with the interface, just like TVs with Android TV. It will also be able to stream games through Stadia, sources aren’t certain when we are getting this but we might see it at Google I/O. Oh and other reports say that Android TV is gonna now become Google TV as well. Stay tuned.

Apple could give us a foldable MacBook or MacBook Pro in the future

Apple has put out several foldable patents over the years for both the iPad and the iPhone and now we have a new one for the Mac. The ‘Planar Hing Assembly’ patent shows a design for a MacBook Pro-style device which would have a ‘single piece body with a seamless appearance that includes a bendable portion, capable of having a smoothly curved shape’. The biggest problem is that in this bendable portion you still have mechanical components that have to be in communication with the rest of the device, doing things like connecting the keyboard to the display. Apple would fix the problem of having this bendable piece work by stacking layers that can transition from an uncompressed to a compressed state. This bendable hinge could be even more reliable than current hinges if done right, but we’ll see if we ever get it.

Xiaomi sends launch invites for Poco F2 debut on May 12: Reports

Yesterday we discussed how we should be getting a POCO F2 Pro soon and according to Android Authority, they got an invitation from Xiaomi’s Spain PR agency to an Event on May 12th for a ‘second generation’ product. We also have a leaked invitation on Twitter for an event on May 12th at 2PM in Madrid, with the invitation looking like the teaser we showed yesterday. We’re expecting the phone to be powered by the Snapdragon 865, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, reportedly starting at €649.

Microsoft’s new Surface Headphones 2 are coming with improved battery life

Microsoft Surface Earbuds finally arriving on May 12 with a lower $199 price tag

Microsoft Surface Book 3 is official: 10th Gen Intel CPU, new NVIDIA GPUs, and up to 32GB RAM

Microsoft Surface Go 2 with slimmer bezels, more power goes official for $399

Microsoft just announced a substantial list of products today, starting with the Surface Go 2 and the Surface Book 3. Starting off with the Surface Go 2, it features options from a Pentium Gold to a Intel Core m3 with slimmer bezels in the same chassis as the older model. Specs go from 4 to 8 Gigs of RAM, 64 Gigs of eMMC or 128 Gigs of SSD storage and price starts at $399, going up to $879 for the maxed out variant. Now, the Surface Book 3 brings a similar design as well but with way better internals. It brings Intel’s latest 10th gen processors, it goes up to 32GB of RAM with what Microsoft claims to be the fastest ever SSDs. You get to choose the graphics between the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Max Q, GTX 1660Ti or Quadro RTX 3000 on the business model. It comes in two sizes, 13.5in and 15in with a promised 15% boost in performance. The 13.5in starts at a hefty $1599 while the 15in will cost you $2299. They also announced the Surface Headphones 2 which now offer a darker color option along with the ANC it’s known for, letting you manually adjust the level of Noise Cancellation you want through 13 different levels. The interesting thing is that they now cost $249 instead of $349. Oh and the Surface Earbuds that look like gages.. Yeah those are finally available and ugly as ever.

Story of the day:

These could be the new Samsung Galaxy S21 camera specs

We have a new report from Taiwan that hints to Samsung testing some interesting camera specs for the Galaxy S21. The report claims due to the Galaxy S20 being notorious for its focusing issues, that’s gonna be a major priority. It also says that one of the development models is rumored to bring a 150MP main sensor, a 64MP telephoto, a 16MP wide angle and a 12MP macro sensor. The report even mentiosn that the company might drop the ToF, which is quite interesting at a time when there’s so much bet for AR. Apparently two versions of this model are being tested, one with Optical Image Stabilization on the main sensor, the telephoto and the selfie camera. The other one has OIS for the main sensor, the telephoto and the wide angle. Samsung is also reportedly working on ramping up their work on higher resolution sensors to make room for the 150MP sensor.

MediaTek announces a its new Helio G85 gaming chipset

MediaTek has announced a total of three gaming focused chips this year. Now we get the MediaTek Helio G85 which is similar to the G80 but it includes a faster GPU. The first phone with this processor was announced last week and it is the Redmi Note 9. The G85 comes with a new 1GHz ARM Mali G52 GPU and a HyperEngine Game Technology enhancements. It also includes two ARM Cortex A75 cores running at 2GHz and 6 Cortex A55 cores running at 1.8GHz, all built on a 12nm process. It also has AI capabilities, better battery life and more features. Apple’s WWDC 2020 starts on June 22 with an online-only, free-for-all format

We’ve been waiting on Apple to give us the exact way they will be carrying on with WWDC and they finally confirmed it. The Event will start on June 22 and it will last for a week, of course through an online event which according to them will be their biggest one, allowing all of their developer community which includes 23M people to be there in an unpresented way. You can also watch if you want by downloading the Apple’s Developers app.

Microsoft Surface Book 3 GPU details leaked. (Sorry folks, no RTX 20-series here!)

The Microsoft Surface Book 3 recently went through a certification revealing that it will bring an Intel Core i7 processor, 32GB of RAM and two screen sizes: 13in and 15in. Now we got some new info from Twitter disclosing the GPUs. According to the tipster, the 13in variant will bring an Nvidia GTX 1650 (4GB GDDR5) and the 15in variant will bring an Nvidia GTX 1660 Ti (6GB GDDR5). The 15in is also reportedly bringing Quadro graphics but there’s no more info on those, though regardless it still seems that 15-inch seems quite capable. We’ll keep you posted as these are expected to drop some time this year.

The Google Pixel 4a is already being used by top Google executives

Now let’s talk about the Google Pixel 4a. Today we get a leak from the head man himself, Rick Osterloh.. Sort of.. He just tweeted out a new image of his Earth Badge on Fitbit and the UI clearly shows a space for the punch hole on the top left corner which isn’t present on other Pixel phones. Now, one of the biggest deal breakers of the iPhone SE is the battery is good, but not great, and which we’re hoping the Pixel has a better one but his device is at 80% and it’s barely 10am for him, so either he’s a late riser, or it might not be great at all. We’re about 10 days away from the speculated launch.

Story of the day:

POCO F2 Pro Gearbest product page goes live, features teased

And finally for the hottest news today.. Sort of, let’s talk about Poco. I mean, the orignal PocoPhone was a huge deal back in 2018 due to the impressive specs for a very cheap price tag. If there’s one company that can compete with the iPhone SE, it’s this one. Two months ago the company made their first independent launch with the X2 which wasn’t released globally, now the company just put out teasers and published a new product page live on Gearbest, telling us about the launch of the F2 Pro. The teasers hint to the phone looking like the Redmi K30 Pro but being a totally different device and not just a rebranded variant, bringing the Snapdragon 865, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The Problem, well if you’ve been following other rumors, the price might be starting at €649 in Portugal with the higher tier variant going up to €749. Yeah, it seems Poco is joining OnePlus in not offering the best value proposition they’ve been known for.
