Two-year-old Droid Turbo gets Android 6.0.1 update

The latest and greatest? How about Android Marshmallow?

The original DROID Turbo, which was stuck on its original KitKat build for the longest time, is now beginning to leave behind 5.1 Lollipop after 17 months. No, we’re not talking about an immediate jump to Nougat — odds are that will never happen. But we do see Android 6.0.1 taking shape.

Sources to Droid Life have shown off the feature list for the update. Yes, it includes Wi-Fi Calling, Google Now on Tap (now known as Screen Search) and Doze mode. The software version is 24.81.5 and comes with the September level security patch — we all make do with what we can.

Those within and outside of Verizon’s soak testing groups have gotten the update while some have complained that installing the package bricked their Turbos. Hey, once you come to some 25 months out of release, you have to begin to wonder you should be switching out your daily driver.

Nevertheless, for those who stick to their Verizon-exclusive DROIDs like they stick to their guns, here’s to you.

Original DROID Turbo updated again, but will Verizon deliver Marshmallow?

Android Marshmallow still feels new on the DROID Turbo 2 and even newer on the DROID Maxx 2. That’s because the 6.0 update came to the Turbo 2 two weeks ago and the Maxx 2 last week. Yep, long after many

Motorola Droid Turbo 2 and Droid Maxx 2 renders highlight choice of colors

Verizon’s upcoming two Droids don’t aim to make headlines just with shatterproof screens and stellar battery life. Their designs should also take center stage in the carrier’s joint Motorola marketing efforts, especially as far as the Droid Turbo 2 and its Moto Maker support are concerned. Not exactly a conventionally stylish device, and certainly no featherweight, the ...

Samsung Galaxy S6 Active vs Motorola Droid Turbo (Video)

Each of the two largest wireless carriers in the US offers its own ruggedized Android smartphone exclusive. The Samsung Galaxy S6 Active (which we reviewed last month) is exclusive to AT&T; the Motorola Droid Turbo (which we reviewed last November) is exclusive to Verizon Wireless – and neither will work very well on a network it wasn’t designed for. So if you’re already beholden to –or ...

Motorola Droid TURBO – After The Buzz, episode 47 (Video)

Most new device launches go the same way: usually the press gets review units before they’re widely available, and we get to use them for a few days -or a week if we’re lucky- as we work on our review. Then press day arrives. The embargo on media coverage lifts, and everyone posts their reviews and videos at the same time. It’s a huge frenzy, commenters go nuts, and it’s a giant explosion of frantic opinion-sharing activity. For about … a day. And then it all goes away. Sure, there’s followup coverage as people find bugs and hidden features, but after that initial blast, not many ...

The era of great smartphone battery life has come – and gone

Editor’s note: In the gulf between iPhone releases and in the run-up to the next Windows Phone resurrection, the ratio of Android to non-Android phones in our review inventory continues to rise. As a result, this piece is written from a predominantly Android-centric perspective.Everybody wants awesome smartphone battery life. Whether you’re addicted to the latest power-draining augmented reality game or just trying to get through a day of texting and talking, the panic moment is a familiar ...

Lollipop for the Motorola Droid Turbo is finally landing

After entirely too long, Motorola and Verizon are finally making the Android Lollipop update available for the Droid Turbo. We’ve been following this tale for months now, from January’s promises that 2014 Motorola phones (including the Droid Turbo) would be getting Lollipop “really soon,” to word in March that the Droid Turbo would skip right ahead to Android 5.1. But all the while, the update still ...

Motorola starting Droid Turbo Lollipop soak test (finally)

The road to Android Lollipop on Motorola’s Droid Turbo has been a long and frustrating one. As if the months and months of waiting haven’t been bad enough, there have been the false starts, like a few weeks back when Verizon started advertising Lollipop availability for the Droid Turbo when the release was actually still under internal testing. And while we haven’t seen the update emerge just yet, it finally looks like we’re really getting down to the home stretch here, as Motorola ...

Verizon jumps the gun on Droid Turbo Lollipop

Motorola Droid Turbo users on Verizon have been a patient bunch, waiting as long as they have been for their smartphones to get a taste of Android Lollipop. We’ve been hearing for months now that the update could be out soon, but so far, nothing. A recent rumor even suggested that Lollipop distribution could begin earlier this week, but that just hasn’t come to pass. There’s still reason to be hopeful that a release is imminent, though, as Verizon updates its own Droid Turbo pages to ...

Motorola Lollipop update prepared for all 2013 and 2014 phones; coming “really soon”

There is absolutely no need to recap Motorola’s efforts related to the Android 5.0 Lollipop update; instead, we’ll just praise the company for being among the first ones to deliver Google’s latest and greatest to its current devices. However, those who own older models are not enjoying the Lollipop dessert just yet, but the company is getting there, according to Motorola’s Luciano Carvalho who took some details on the progress to his Google+ page (embedded below).According to the post, Carvalho reassures everyone that Motorola is working hard on updating 2014 and ...

DROID Turbo update arriving to soak testers, could be Lollipop

It may or may not be Lollipop, but who’s to complain about a brand-new update for the DROID Turbo? Today, soak testers part of the Motorola Feedback Network are reporting to Droid Life that they’ve received word of an upcoming soak test, which likely is either Android 5.0 (Lollipop), HD Voice/VoLTE/Advanced Calling 1.0, or both.Motorola made the Lollipop update available for versions of he Moto X smartphone just a ew short weeks or days ago depending on your carrier, so it’s safe to assume that the same goodies could be crossing the pond to its elder sibling the Turbo. ...

It’s that time of year again: bargain-hunters bundle up for a long night out in the cold, armed with a vacuum flask full of coffee and a checklist of the stores they’ll be hitting. Motorola DROID Turbo review (Video)

On paper, Motorola’s latest DROID carries on the brand’s storied legacy in spectacular fashion. A tablet-sized battery mated to a searing hot processor and a super-sharp display, with the whole thing wrapped in a splashproof casing of metallized glass (or better yet, ballistic nylon). “This is what the Moto X should have been!” cried the commenters on our initial hands-on several weeks back.Well, maybe not. While the DROID ...
