Amazon offers sneak peek at Black Friday deals to come on Fire and Echo gear

As always, you can probably rest assured knowing Amazon will not be mixing business with… its other business this holiday season, no doubt cooking up some of the best Black Friday deals around on both in-house and third-party products.

But also as always, expect Amazon’s homebrewed gadgets to receive the lion’s share of advertising in the two weeks leading up to the year’s busiest shopping day, as well as privileged spots on promotional banners and whatnot come November 25.

Make that November 24, as the already dirt-cheap Fire 7 tablet is apparently supposed to drop from its $50 MSRP to $33.33 on Thanksgiving Day. The same goes for the 7-incher’s slightly bigger, higher-end Fire HD 8 brother, slated to cost $60 after a $30 markdown on Black Friday 2016’s eve, while the “all-new” Fire TV Stick with Alexa voice remote shall take a $10 dive to $29.99.

Also on November 24, look for a heavily discounted “full-sized” Echo smart speaker setting you back $140 instead of $180, as well as a diminutive $40 Echo Dot ($10 off). Four days earlier, the Kindle Paperwhite e-reader will go down from $120 to $100, desperately trying to stay in the spotlight as even tablets near obsolescence.

All in all, nothing earth-shattering here, especially after Best Buy, Walmart or Target’s BF previews, but this is merely a taste of a looming Amazon.com bargain feast.

Staples has solid Black Friday deals on Amazon gear, Surface Pro 4 and more in the pipeline

And so it begins. The first major US retailer to voluntarily reveal its upcoming Black Friday deal bonanza is Staples, with special online sales scheduled to start Thursday, November 24, followed by the typical brick and mortar store stampede at 6 am on Friday the 25th.

Supplies will obviously be limited, customers can only buy one unit of each heavily discounted item, and if you prefer, you can order on the web during your festive Thanksgiving dinner, then swing by a physical location for in-person pickup anytime on Friday.

You’re looking at countless marked-down PCs, laptops, monitors, printers, accessories, and even office chairs here, but as far as our mobile-focused readership is concerned, possibly the most compelling BF 2016 bargains are to include $33.33 Amazon Fire 7 and $80 Fire HD 8 tablets.

A $100 Samsung Galaxy Tab A 7.0 or $130 Tab A 8.0, reduced from their regular list prices of $150 and $200 respectively, don’t sound half bad either. And then you have the convertible Surface Pro 4 Windows 10 machine Microsoft just “forgot” to upgrade, due for a hefty $200 rebate off its $1,000 MSRP with a Core i5 processor, 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD in tow.

Finally, Staples intends to allow you to liven up the living room by paying very little for the Amazon Echo Dot smart speaker ($40 instead of $50), Fire TV Stick ($30 instead of $40), or second-gen Google Chromecast ($25, not $35).

When outrage pays off: Amazon will soon bring back Fire OS encryption

While owners of low-cost Fire tablets aren’t routinely characterized as extremely tech-savvy, and Amazon’s argument for ditching full disk encryption probably held up, the timing of the security-shrinking move wasn’t the wisest.Even if no one actually uses the feature, it feels weird to just give it up voluntarily, without so much as a heads up, when other companies’ execs are literally risking their freedom to protect it on every single iDevice ...
