Samsung tablets: more isn’t always better

In the tablet space, Samsung is a quickly growing giant. Almost single-handed, Samsung has cut Apple’s tablet market share in half – from over 60 percent in 2012 to 30 percent in Q1 this year – while snapping up 23 percent of the global tablet share in Q1.We never had any doubt this would be the case, even with how half-baked the first two or three generations of its tablets were. Take the original Galaxy Tab, for example. It was a 7-inch knee-jerk reaction to the iPad. It ran Android, of course, ...

Sources closing in on Galaxy TabPRO, NotePRO retail availability

It’s been nearly three weeks now since Samsung went official at CES 2014 with its new Galaxy TabPRO and NotePRO tablets: 8.4, 10.1, and 12.2-inch TabPROs, and the one 12.2-inch NotePRO. After seeing our fair share of lackluster Galaxy Tab models in years past, the positively top-shelf specs on all four of these models were a breath of fresh air, and really allayed our fears about Samsung’s tablet strategy. At the time, Samsung revealed its ...

Samsung just seriously raised the tablet bar, and I love it

It’s been just over a week now since Samsung took the lid off its latest series of Android tablets, in the days leading up to CES 2014. While we had a general sense going in of the sort of specifics Samsung would reveal, what we ended up getting easily exceeded my expectations: no matter how you look at them, the three Galaxy TabPRO and one NotePRO tablets are all high-end devices. This was a huge weight off my shoulders, because I’ve been a pretty vocal critic of Samsung’s tablet strategy for a while now ...

Pocketnow Weekly 078: CES 2014 wrap-up – the best and worst from Vegas

Horrible sickness. Missed flights. Broken promises from major airlines. Desert air-induced hacking. A too-late arrival followed by a too-early departure. That’s just a partial list of the challenges faced by the four-man three-man Pocketnow team at 2014′s International CES in Vegas, easily one of the most difficult trade shows we’ve ever done. But while the road was rough, the payoff was (mostly) worth it: in exchange for our hardships, we were among the first to spend time with some of the world’s newest and hottest mobile gadgetry, and we did the best we could to ...

Samsung Galaxy TabPRO 8.4, 10.1, 12.2: hands-on (Video)

So long, Galaxy Tab 3 models, with your middling specs and underwhelming user experiences! We hoped beyond hope that Samsung might give its tablet lineup the shot in the arm it needed in order to stay relevant in 2014, and wouldn’t you know it, that’s just what we saw the company do yesterday in Las Vegas. That meant both a new Galaxy Note as well as a few new Galaxy Tabs, this time trying on the stylized moniker TabPRO (yeah, we’re spelling it

Samsung formally confirms Galaxy Tab Pro, Note Pro lineup

Several hours ago, we brought you what sure seemed to be a very official-looking leak, containing not just detailed technical data on a set of four new Android tablets from Samsung, but pics and all the associated trimmings. By all appearances, the cat was out of the bag. Well, now Samsung’s had time to make its official CES presentation, and in doing so, has confirmed its new Galaxy Note Pro and three Tab Pro models. Well, if we’re being precise (or drinking the branding Kool-Aid) these are the Galaxy NotePRO ...

Samsung CES tablet lineup leaks early, packing high-end hardware

We knew they were coming; a combination of leaks and publicly available evidence has been building up over the past several weeks, painting the picture of Samsung preparing quite a few new Android tablets for release. Those have included new small as well as new larger-than-ever models, along with the introduction of a new “Pro” designation to the company’s lineup. While Samsung hasn’t yet gone official with the group, they now appear ...
