How much of a difference will 0.5mm make? About two weeks' worth of difference. That said, the Note 9 was on an early track for release anyways...

The cover glass on the camera system should be made of sapphire and, thus, shouldn't crack easily — not from keys or coins or even drops.

It simply doesn't make business sense for Apple to prepare a 2018 iPhone lineup comprised of three OLED models, according to more and more reports.

There is a loose coalescence of intel regarding what molds the iPhone 8 will take shape in come next year. More analysts and sources are pointing to two phones with larger screens but roughly in the same dimensions as the past three iterations of iPhone. But a third size, with screen size said to be between the existing 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch form factors, has been popping up in research notes recently, including one from yesterday written by KGI Securities analyst Ming-chi Kuo.
Further details from a KGI report today make expectations for Apple to make this the sole model to feature a wraparound OLED screen. The screen, provided exclusively by Samsung, will have a hypotenuse of 5.8 inches while its capacitive touch sensor will only span 5.2 inches. Bezels will be minimized to near zero while the Home Button will be integrated into the display.
KGI belives this special model will act as a technological showboat for Apple while the company continues to maintain the “bread-and-butter” models. The Plus is supposed to get optical image stabilization support for both of its wide angle and telephoto lenses. Both conventional iPhones will still feature LCD screens and an iterative design derived from the iPhone 7 series, but with glass as the main industrial material.
It was not likely from the outset that Apple would be able to obtain enough OLED panels from Samsung for full-slate iPhone production. The third iPhone 8 could enable Apple to offer it at an elevated price and/or depress its other models’ costs — however it wants to drive iPhone sales.

The web of rumors about the next iPhone has been spun for long enough to give us a good establishing view of what it may look like from this far out. The thoughts so far have pointed to a bolder glass-led design with more screen than customers would know what to do with. And maybe, just maybe, we’d get three of them this time around — apparently, we were so close to getting a third iPhone last time around.
Add to the pile this from Barclays Research where maybe instead of dealing with 4.7-inch, 5-inch and 5.5-inch models we get 5-inch and 5.8-inch models. An iPhone 8 and an iPhone 8 Plus.
Blayne Curtis, Christopher Hemmelgarn, Thomas O’Malley and Jerry Zhang toured Apple’s manufacturing partners across Asia and learned a thing or two from sources.
“iPhone 8 design didn’t sound 100% locked down but we believe believe the move is to a bezel-less design with screen sizes getting larger and curved edges in the original envelope,” the note reads.
If we’re getting a new design in the same iPhone 7/6s/6 sizes we’re all used with no physical home button and new materials, — OLED screens will still be bound to the Plus model, the analysts claim — then perhaps we may be all set on what forms we may receive in September 2017.
Alright, getting our expectations cleared up and set in 2016 for a 2017 product. We’re sure nothing will change.
