The Huawei Mate 40 Pro camera is great with a few gotchas

Ever since the Huawei P20 Pro came out with its 40 megapixel main camera, Huawei has been killing it with some of the best cameras on phones since the Nokia Lumia 1020 from 2013! How's that Mate 40 Pro camera doing these days?

HUAWEI officially lists an upcoming 4G version of the Mate X2 foldable

HUAWEI wowed us earlier this year with its latest foldable flagship – the Mate X2. The phone is brimming with top-of-the-line hardware, which also includes a 5G chip. But it also costs almost $3,000, which puts it straight into the enthusiast-class of smartphone buyers who want the cutting-edge tech without worrying too much about the price. However, HUAWEI also appears to have a 4G version in the pipeline that will likely be cheaper and targeted at folks who are not too keen on paying the 5G tax.

The 4G version has the same internal hardware as its 5G sibling

The official HUAWEI China website now has a dedicated product page for the HUAWEI Mate X2 4G version. A quick look at the spec sheet suggests that the 4G version of HUAWEI’s foldable flagship will have identical specs as its 5G-ready sibling, and will only miss out on the third-gen Balong 5G modem. Unfortunately, there is no word when the 4G variant of the phone will go official, and more importantly, how much it will cost. But given the China-only availability of HUAWEI Mate X2 5G, it is unlikely that the 4G version will make it to the international market.

huawei mate x2 4G

Interestingly, HUAWEI has also listed a 4G version of the Mate 40 Pro flagship on its website. Unfortunately, we don’t know about a launch date or asking price for this one either. While the HUAWEI Mate X2 is making waves due to its sleek design and powerful innards, the Mate 40 Pro is one of the best normal-looking Android phones out there – if you can ignore the fact that it lacks access to essential Google services such as Play Store, Gmail, and Maps to name a few.

In his review, Pocketnow Editor-in-Chief Anton D. Nagy praised the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro’s excellent build and attractive design, terrific cameras with impressive zoom performance, good battery life, and great multimedia experience. Regarding the software part, he mentioned that the HMS ecosystem is maturing at a fast pace with the addition of more apps and services, and it has now reached a stage where the phone is worth recommending without any major red flags.

In case you’re wondering about the HUAWEI Mate X2, the review is underway and will soon go live on the Pocketnow website. Till then, drool over these images of the phone in all its foldable glory:

HUAWEI’s Mate 40 Pro is its fastest as well as greenest flagship yet

A few weeks ago. HUAWEI lifted the covers from its latest flagship portfolio – the HUAWEI Mate 40 series The more powerful member of the family, the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro, packs some seriously powerful imaging hardware, aside from super-fast charging capabilities, 5G support, and a fire-breathing chip among other features. To sum it up, the device is a complete package. today, HUAWEI has announced that aside from being its most powerful phone, the Mate 40 Pro is also the greenest – or most environment-friendly – phone yet.

The Chinese electronics giant has revealed that it has reduced the amount of plastic in the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro’s retail packaging by 28 percent. Plus, the amount of paper-based documents in the retail bundle has also been reduced by an impressive 90 percent. Talking in numbers. HUAWEI adds that it has reduced the number of pages in the QuickStart Guide from 340 to just 44, significantly reducing the number of pages that many buyers never read and it eventually goes to the bin.

HUAWEI says it plans further double down on its commitment towards sustainability with the new digital warranty card that allows users to access their documents by simply scanning a QR code saved on their phone’s memory, or downloading the same from HUAWEI’s official website. More importantly, HUAWEI claims that only 3.8 percent of the Mate 40 Pro’s retail package is plastic.

Only 3.8 percent of the Mate 40 Pro's retail package is plastic.

“At Huawei, we understand that bold steps must be taken by our industry to tackle the increasingly important environmental issues we face every day. The launch of our greenest smartphone yet, the HUAWEI Mate40 Pro delivers significant reductions in plastic and paper packaging and are just some of the small steps on our journey to ensure a greener and brighter future,” Walter Ji, President of Huawei Technologies Consumer Business, said regarding the direction taken by the company.

Sharing more details about its green initiatives, HUAWEI adds that it uses 100 percent decomposable soy-bean ink in the packaging instead of the harmful petroleum-based ink. The company, which has been using bioplastics since 2013, also notes that 30 percent of the bioplastics that it uses are sourced from castor oil – an environment-friendly solution that has helped HUAWEI reduced emissions by 612 tons. Furthermore, the company also claims to have reused 86% of devices returned for recycling last year.

HUAWEI Mate 40 series specs: Everything you need to know

HUAWEI has just introduced three new gladiators to the arena of smartphone flagships in the form of the Mate 40 family. The company has launched three new devices – the vanilla HUAWEI Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, and the top-of-the-line HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+. There is also a Porsche Design HUAWEI Mate RS, but that is essentially a redesigned HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+ for folks who appreciate the finer things in life and also have deep pockets. Let’s do a detailed analysis of what each device has to offer and how the three HUAWEI Mate 40 series siblings differ from each other:

HUAWEI Mate 40 series: Design

Pick one between vegan leather, glass and ceramic

The HUAWEI Mate 40 and its Pro sibling will offer a choice between two materials for the rear panel – leather and curved glass. The vegan leather option is up for grabs in green and yellow colors, while the one with a glass-made rear panel is offered in black, white, and an eye-catching mystic silver color with gradient finish. The HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+, on the other hand, uses ceramic for its rear panel and comes in two shades – ceramic white and ceramic black.

HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro

HUAWEI Mate 40 has a 3.5mm headphone jack y'all!

Another key difference between the standard HUAWEI Mate 40 and its Pro siblings is the display aesthetics. The HUAWEI Mate 40 flaunts a subtly curved display that bends at 68-degrees on the sides, while the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro duo rocks a dramatically curved waterfall display which has an 88-degree curved profile along the sides. Notably, the HUAWEI Mate 40 also retains the 3.5mm headphone, which is something unheard of when it comes to 2020 flagships.

HUAWEI Mate 40 series: Display

HUAWEI Mate 40

HUAWEI Mate 40 rocks a 6.5-inch FHD+ ( 2376 x 1080 Pixels) OLED display and has a circular hole-punch drilled into the top left corner. As for the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro and its Plus variant, you get a slightly bigger 6.76-inch FHD+ (2772 x 1344 Pixels) OLED display with a pill-shaped hole-punch on top. The panel on all three phones offers a 90Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. You’ll also find an in-display fingerprint sensor on the HUAWEI Mate 40 trio.

HUAWEI Mate 40 series: Internals

Kirin 9000E for the standard model, Kirin 9000 for the Pro siblings

The biggest difference between the standard HUAWEI Mate 40 and its Pro sibling is the SoC they use. The HUAWEI Mate 40 comes equipped with the Kirin 9000E chip paired with 8 gigs of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro and HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+, on the other hand, rely on the Kirin 9000 silicon ticking alongside up to 12GB of RAM and 256 gigs of onboard storage.

HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+

Now, both the Kirin 9000E and Kirin 9000 are 5nm chips, share the same core architecture – 1x Cortex-A77 (3.13 GHz) + 3x Cortex-A77 (2.54 GHz) + 4x Cortex-A55 (2.05 GHz) – and come with an integrated Balong 5000 5G modem. The key difference is the GPU and NPU on board the chip.

The Kirin 9000E uses the 22-core version of ARM’s Mali G78 GPU, while the Kirin 9000 uses the 24-core model for some added graphics prowess. Also, the NPU on Kirin 9000E has one small and one big core, while the Kirin 9000’s NPU has two big cores and one small core.

Only the Pro models support 50W wireless charging

Coming to the battery capacity, the HUAWEI Mate 40 packs a 4,200mAh battery that supports 40W wired fast charging. However, it misses out on support for wireless charging. As for the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro+, they come equipped with a larger 4,400mAh battery that supports 66W fast charging, as well as 50W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging compatibility.

HUAWEI Mate 40 series: Cameras

Imaging capability is where the three new HUAWEI flagships stand on a different pedestal. The 50MP Ultra Vision primary (f/1.9, OIS) camera is shared between all three devices, but that is where the similarities end. The vanilla HUAWEI Mate 40 packs a 16MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide-angle camera and an 8MP optically stabilized telephoto camera that can deliver 5x optical zoom output.

HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+ offers 17x optical zoom output

The HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro uses a 20MP ultra-wide-angle camera with an f/1.8 aperture, while the 20MP ultra-wide-angle lens on the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+ has a smaller f/2.4 aperture. The 8MP (f/2.4, OIS) 5x periscope telephoto lens on the HUAWEI P40 Pro can deliver 7x optical zoom, while the 8MP 10X (f/4.4) periscope telephoto camera on the HUAWEI P40 Pro+ works in tandem with another 12MP 3X (f/2.4, OIS) telephoto lens to provide an impressive 17x optical zoom output.

Slo-mo video capture on the HUAWEI Mate 40 is capped at 960fps for 1080p resolution. But the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro and its Plus variant will let you shoot ultra slo-mo 3,840fps videos at 720p resolution. All three HUAWEI Mate 40 series devices also feature a laser autofocus sensor and a color temperature sensor at the back as well.

240fps slo-mo and 4K capture by selfie camera

They also share the 13MP Ultra Vision (f/2.4) selfie camera as well, which offers a wide 100-degree field of view. HUAWEI claims that depending on the number of people in a frame, the front camera can automatically adjust the FOV to include more people in the selfie. Both the rear and front camera can record 240fps slo-mo videos at 1080p as well as 4K clips on the HUAWEI Mate 40 trio.

HUAWEI Mate 40 series: Pricing

The HUAWEI Mate 40 will set you back by €899, while the HUAWEI Mate Pro will erase €1,199 from your bank account. Coming to the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+, you’ll have to shell out €1,399 for this beast. Pre-orders for the HUAWEI Mate 40 series go live in November and general availability will also begin later that month. However, market rollout might be staggered depending on where you live.

HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro brings a 5nm SoC, 50MP quad camera setup and 50W wireless charging

HUAWEI has today lifted the covers from its latest flagship – the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro. The latest HUAWEI offering packs top-of-the-line specs and rocks an eye-catching design with a premium build. The company is retaining the dramatically curved waterfall display aesthetics, which bends at a steep 88-degree angle along the sides and almost wraps around the edges. Impressively, the company has managed to pack a physical power button and volume rocker on the side by slicing some area from the rear panel. Talking about the rear panel, buyers can choose between vegan leather or 3D curved glass with a subtle gradient texture.

90Hz display, 3D face unlock and reverse wireless charging too!

Starting with the display, it uses a 6.76-inch flexible OLED panel that offers a resolution of 2772×1344 pixels, translating to a pixel density of 456ppi. And oh, it offers a 90Hz refresh rate. There is an under-display fingerprint sensor for authentication, but you get the convenience of 3D face unlock as well. The curved display derives power from a 4,400mAh battery that supports 66W wired fast charging. Plus, the HUAWEI Mate Pro also supports an impressive 50W wireless charging, which is among the fastest implementations of this technology out there. And on top of that, you can also take advantage of the reverse wireless charging feature to juice up accessories such as TWS earbuds.

The HUAWEI flagship definitely looks the part, but it’s more than just eye-candy. The HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro comes equipped with the new Kirin 9000 SoC which is based on TSMC’s 5nm process. The in-house SoC has a prime ARM Cortex-A77 core clocked at an impressive 3.13GHz, three ARM Cortex-A77 cores ticking at a slightly lower 2.54GHz frequency, and four Cortex-A55 cores running at 2.04GHz to handle less-demanding tasks. Graphics are handled by the top-shelf 24-core Mali-G78MP24 GPU. There is 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. The Kirin 9000 also has an integrated 5G modem, and it also brings support for Bluetooth v5.2 and Wi-Fi 6 to the table.

Now, let’s talk about cameras. The HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro offers Leica-tuned imaging hardware that is highlighted by an optically stabilized 50MP primary camera with an f/1.9 aperture. It sits alongside a 20MP (f/1.8) wide-angle snapper and a 12MP 5x telephoto camera with a periscope lens setup. The latter is claimed to deliver a massive 7x optical zoom output. On the front is a 13MP (f/2.4) ultra-wide-angle camera with a 100-degree field of view, accompanied by a 3D ToF sensor.

Both the front and rear cameras can record 240fps slo-mo videos

The selfie camera can automatically adjust its FoV depending upon the number of faces in the frame, which is a neat feature. As far as capabilities go, the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro can record 8K videos, and also allows video capture in cinematic 3:2 aspect ratio by both the front and rear cameras. Additionally, the device can also capture 4K videos with real-time HDR processing and 240fps slo-mo videos using both the front and rear cameras. Plus, there are dual stereo speakers on the device that are claimed to deliver a thumping bass.

On the software side, the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro runs EMUI 11. It brings a new Eyes on Display (EOD) feature that lets users record a short video and set it as dynamic wallpaper on the lock screen. The gesture controls now also allow sideways motion as well as air tap, in addition to touchless up and down scrolling. The split-screen experience has also received an upgrade, thanks to the new bubble window layout. Also. the Celia voice assistant now supports 5 languages. The in-house Petal search will also be a major experience driver inside EMUI 11.

As for the color options, you can choose from amongst black, white and mystic silver with a glass rear panel, while the vegan leather rear panel will be offered in green and yellow colors.

The HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro will set you back by £1099.99 in the UK where pre-orders go live on November 3, while general online and retail availability starts on November 13. Pre-orders placed on or before November 12 will get a Huawei Sound X speaker as a freebie.

HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+

HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+

In addition to the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro, HUAWEI has also launched a slightly higher-end version of the device called HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+. It packs 12GB of RAM (instead of 8GB on the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro) and adds another 8MP SuperZoom telephoto camera at the back which supports 10x optical zoom. Naturally, it costs more at EUR 1,399 and comes in two color options – Ceramic White and Ceramic Black.

HUAWEI Mate 40 series event on October 22: Everything expected to launch

HUAWEI’s October 22 event is just hours away from going live. And if you’ve been following the news, you must already know that it will be the launch platform for HUAWEI’s new flagship smartphones – the HUAWEI Mate 40 series. If the leaks are to be trusted, we can expect three high-end devices – the vanilla HUAWEI Mate 40, the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro and the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+. And if past years are anything to go by, a Porsche Design version might also tag along. However, HUAWEI has also confirmed the debut of two other devices – the FreeBuds Studio headphones and the Porsche Design HUAWEI Watch GT2 smartwatch. Here’s everything we know from leaks and official teasers so far:

HUAWEI Mate 40 series

The HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro recently appeared in an extensive leak and was also briefly listed on Amazon. A WinFuture report has already given us our first detailed look at the device from all angles, and even shed some light on its internal hardware. Starting with the aesthetics, the phone will feature a familiar curved display with a pill-shaped hole-punch at the top and extremely thin bezels.

HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro

Starting with the display, you’ll find a 6.76-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2772×1344 pixels that translates to a pixel density of 456PPI. However, the refresh rate numbers are unclear. Coming to the internals, the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro will reportedly draw power from the new octa-core Kirin 9000 SoC. Based on the 5nm process, the Kirin 9000 also brings 5G to the table. It ticks alongside 8GB/12GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard UFS 3.1 storage that is non-expandable. Let’s talk about cameras now, as the Huawei Mate 40 Pro is claimed to pack upgraded imaging hardware developed in partnership with Leica. There is a black ring at the back which houses the camera sensors as well as the LED flash.

HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro (Image: WinFuture)

The primary camera uses an optically stabilized 50MP (f/1.9) sensor that can capture 8K videos. It is assisted by a 20MP (f/18) ultra-wide angle and a 12MP (f/3.4) telephoto lens that supports 5x optical zoom. There is also a color temperature sensor and laser autofocus module at the back as well. On the front, you’ll find a 13MP selfie snapper sitting alongside a 3D camera. The HUAWEI Mate 40 series will also support 65W fast charging, thanks to the SuperCharge power adopter bundled in the retail package. It also supports wireless charging as well as reverse wireless charging to juice up accessories such as wireless earbuds. As per a brief Amazon listing, the device will cost €1,199 and will start shipping starting November 9.

A Porsche Design smartwatch too!

So far, we’re yet to come across any leaks surrounding a Porsche Design smartwatch, but HUAWEI has officially confirmed it. As you can glean from the tweet above, the device will be called Porsche Design HUAWEI Watch GT 2. Of course, it will flaunt a premium build and won’t be easy on the wallet either.

HUAWEI FreeBuds Studio

Following a rather comprehensive leak, HUAWEI also confirmed that it will launch a new audio wearable called HUAWEI FreeBuds Studio. It will be the first pair of over-the-ear headphones from HUAWEI. The leaked images show a premium design, all of which will come at a handsome asking price of approximately €400 (~ $470).

(Image: WinFuture)

Talking about the features, the HUAWEI FreeBuds Studio will offer Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and will reportedly be able to reduce the ambient noise levels by up to 40dB. 40mm drivers handle audio output, while audio processing and connectivity are taken care of by the in-house Kirin A1 chip. Battery life will reportedly be 20 hours, while support for fast charging ensures that you get five hours of playtime with just 10 minutes of charging.

The launch event starts at 2:00pm CEST (8:00am ET / 5:30pm IST) and you can catch it live on the YouTube link below:

HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro listed on Amazon Germany one day ahead of launch

HUAWEI is all set to launch its Mate 40 series tomorrow. The company hasn’t released any details regarding the specifications or design of the upcoming smartphones. However, the specs of Mate 40 Pro have already leaked online. Now, Amazon Germany has gone ahead and listed the smartphone on its site. While the listing uses the image of last year’s model, the price and specs mentioned are reported to be that of the Mate 40 Pro.

According to the listing, the Mate 40 Pro will start at 1,199 euros. It also revealed that the flagship will start shipping on November 9, 2020. The HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro is tipped to feature a 6.76-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2722 x 1344 pixels. It could have a pill-shaped cutout for housing the front-facing sensors, much like the P40 Pro.

The series will be powered by the Kirin 9000 chipset that is tipped to come with a 24-core GPU. As per the leaked AnTuTu benchmark, the SoC scored 693K+, almost on-par with the Samsung Exynos 1080 SoC. However, it posted better results for graphics performance. Notably, the Mali G78-MP24 GPU is clocked at lower frequencies to distribute the load and keep devices power efficient.

The Mate 40 Pro could sport a triple rear camera setup consisting of a 50MP primary sensor, a 20MP ultra-wide lens, and a 12MP telephoto zoom camera with 5x optical zoom. Meanwhile, the Mate 40 could pack a triple rear camera setup as well, but there are no details on the lenses yet.

As per the leaks, the Mate 40 Pro supports Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC connectivity. It is likely to run Android 10-based EMUI 11 and pack a 4,400mAh battery with support for 65W fast wired charging via a USB 3.1 Gen 1 port.

As per reliable tipster DigitalChatStation (via Weibo), the three aforementioned devices will arrive in the market as HUAWEI Mate 40, HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro, and HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+. However, chances are slim for a fourth and more affordable version tentatively called HUAWEI Mate 40 Lite, since HUAWEI didn’t launch a ‘Lite’ model for the HUAWEI Mate 30 series.

108MP camera with 9P lens, a 5nm SoC and 66W fast charging

The same source also claims that the HUAWEI Mate 40 series will also use a 108MP primary camera with a groundbreaking 9P lens. Increasing the number of lens elements will reportedly reduce distortion and degradation in image quality. Another leak suggests that the HUAWEI Mate 40 series will offer support for 66W fast charging as well.

We’ve also seen alleged CAD-based renders of the HUAWEI Mate 40 as well as that of the Mate 40 Pro. The vanilla Mate 40 is shown packing a triple rear camera setup alongside another sensor whose role is yet unclear. The camera setup creates a rather larger circular bump at the back. There is a pill-shaped hole-punch cutout on the front that houses two selfie cameras, while the display is slightly curved on the sides.

Coming to the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro, it appears to flaunt a dramatically curved “waterfall” display. And just like the standard HUAWEI Mate 40, the Pro sibling also features dual front cameras sitting in a hole-punch drilled in the top left corner. There are four cameras at the back, one of which has a rectangular lens opening for the periscope-style telephoto camera setup

The HUAWEI Mate 40 series will be powered (via WinFuture) by the in-house Kirin 9000 SoC that is based on the 5nm process and will reportedly be the world’s first 5nm chipset with an integrated 5G modem. For comparison, Apple’s 5nm-based A14 Bionic chipset doesn’t come with an integrated 5G modem as part of the chip. However, rumors suggest that the aforementioned chipset might be called Kirin 1000 or Kirin 1020, and will deliver a massive 50% performance boost. It might also be the last custom HUAWEI SoC to roll off TSMC’s assembly after fresh sanctions imposed by the US government.

We have new leaks of the cases for the Huawei Mate 40 series

New images of what seem to be the cases for the new Huawei Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro reveal interesting details. These leaks were recently posted on Twitter thanks to leaked Digital Chat Station.

We have just received a batch of images showing what are believed to be transparent cases for the upcoming Huawei Mate 40 Pro and the regular Mate 40. These images show a circular opening for the new camera bump, with no extra holes for the LED flash or other sensors.

According to these images, the new Huawei Mate 40 pro will include hardware volume controls, unlike its predecessor. It seems that it may also have stereo speakers on the top and bottom. Both the Pro and the regular Mate 40 are expected to include an IF blaster, but the entry-level version may also include a 3.5mm headphone jack.

There’s still no official date for the new Mate 40 series launch, but we expect to see the phone’s new Kirin 990 processor revealed during the next IFA 2020 event.

Here’s your first look at the upcoming HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro flagship

HUAWEI’s next flagship is still a few months away from its debut, but we might already have our first look – a rather detailed one – at the upcoming HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro. Tipster Steve H aka @OnLeaks – who leaked renders of the vanilla HUAWEI Mate 40 earlier today – has now collaborated with PriceBaba to share high resolution renders and a 360-degree video of the more powerful HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro.

The main difference between the HUAWEI Mate 40 and its Pro sibling is that the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro has a more dramatically curved display – or a waterfall display – that almost wraps around the sides, save for the thin metallic frame. Additionally, the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro is shown rocking a periscope-style telephoto camera – something the standard HUAWEI Mate 40 misses out on – sitting alongside three other cameras.

Just like the vanilla HUAWEI Mate 40, the Pro variant also has a huge camera bump. On the front, you’ll find a pill-shaped cutout in the top left corner housing two selfie cameras and a fingerprint sensor beneath the display. The panel will reportedly measure 6.7-inches diagonally, while the device is claimed to draw power from the in-house Kirin 1020 chip based on the 5nm process.

We could get BOE displays in the Huawei Mate 40, Samsung and LG panels in the Mate 40 Pro

It seems that the new Mate 40 series will come with Chinese OLED panels. BOE has been working to become an important name in the display industry, and it seems that it is heading in the right direction. The latest rumor suggests that BOE will be the exclusive supplier of the Huawei Mate 40, while the Mate 40 Pro may also use OLED panels from Samsung and LG.

According to a report from TheElec, BOE may be the only supplier of on-cell organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panels for the upcoming Huawei Mate 40. Samsung and LG will also be helping BOE provide on-cell displays to the Mate 40 Pro. These new panels will have a touch-sensitive layer embedded in the display panel, which means that these displays will have better optical and mechanical properties.

We also get information from leaker @RODENT950 who claims that the new Mate 40 will include a curved screen and a single selfie camera, while the Huawei Mate 40 Pro would have a waterfall display, with a pill-shaped punch-hole display to house two selfie cameras. BOE may also supply OLED panels for Apple and Samsung, as soon as they successfully clear quality standards.
