HUAWEI Mate 40 series specs: Everything you need to know

HUAWEI has just introduced three new gladiators to the arena of smartphone flagships in the form of the Mate 40 family. The company has launched three new devices – the vanilla HUAWEI Mate 40, Mate 40 Pro, and the top-of-the-line HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+. There is also a Porsche Design HUAWEI Mate RS, but that is essentially a redesigned HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+ for folks who appreciate the finer things in life and also have deep pockets. Let’s do a detailed analysis of what each device has to offer and how the three HUAWEI Mate 40 series siblings differ from each other:

HUAWEI Mate 40 series: Design

Pick one between vegan leather, glass and ceramic

The HUAWEI Mate 40 and its Pro sibling will offer a choice between two materials for the rear panel – leather and curved glass. The vegan leather option is up for grabs in green and yellow colors, while the one with a glass-made rear panel is offered in black, white, and an eye-catching mystic silver color with gradient finish. The HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+, on the other hand, uses ceramic for its rear panel and comes in two shades – ceramic white and ceramic black.

HUAWEI Mate 40 has a 3.5mm headphone jack y'all!

Another key difference between the standard HUAWEI Mate 40 and its Pro siblings is the display aesthetics. The HUAWEI Mate 40 flaunts a subtly curved display that bends at 68-degrees on the sides, while the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro duo rocks a dramatically curved waterfall display which has an 88-degree curved profile along the sides. Notably, the HUAWEI Mate 40 also retains the 3.5mm headphone, which is something unheard of when it comes to 2020 flagships.

HUAWEI Mate 40 series: Display

HUAWEI Mate 40

HUAWEI Mate 40 rocks a 6.5-inch FHD+ ( 2376 x 1080 Pixels) OLED display and has a circular hole-punch drilled into the top left corner. As for the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro and its Plus variant, you get a slightly bigger 6.76-inch FHD+ (2772 x 1344 Pixels) OLED display with a pill-shaped hole-punch on top. The panel on all three phones offers a 90Hz refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. You’ll also find an in-display fingerprint sensor on the HUAWEI Mate 40 trio.

HUAWEI Mate 40 series: Internals

Kirin 9000E for the standard model, Kirin 9000 for the Pro siblings

The biggest difference between the standard HUAWEI Mate 40 and its Pro sibling is the SoC they use. The HUAWEI Mate 40 comes equipped with the Kirin 9000E chip paired with 8 gigs of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro and HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+, on the other hand, rely on the Kirin 9000 silicon ticking alongside up to 12GB of RAM and 256 gigs of onboard storage.

HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+

Now, both the Kirin 9000E and Kirin 9000 are 5nm chips, share the same core architecture – 1x Cortex-A77 (3.13 GHz) + 3x Cortex-A77 (2.54 GHz) + 4x Cortex-A55 (2.05 GHz) – and come with an integrated Balong 5000 5G modem. The key difference is the GPU and NPU on board the chip.

The Kirin 9000E uses the 22-core version of ARM’s Mali G78 GPU, while the Kirin 9000 uses the 24-core model for some added graphics prowess. Also, the NPU on Kirin 9000E has one small and one big core, while the Kirin 9000’s NPU has two big cores and one small core.

Only the Pro models support 50W wireless charging

Coming to the battery capacity, the HUAWEI Mate 40 packs a 4,200mAh battery that supports 40W wired fast charging. However, it misses out on support for wireless charging. As for the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro and Mate 40 Pro+, they come equipped with a larger 4,400mAh battery that supports 66W fast charging, as well as 50W wireless charging and reverse wireless charging compatibility.

HUAWEI Mate 40 series: Cameras

Imaging capability is where the three new HUAWEI flagships stand on a different pedestal. The 50MP Ultra Vision primary (f/1.9, OIS) camera is shared between all three devices, but that is where the similarities end. The vanilla HUAWEI Mate 40 packs a 16MP (f/2.2) ultra-wide-angle camera and an 8MP optically stabilized telephoto camera that can deliver 5x optical zoom output.

HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+ offers 17x optical zoom output

The HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro uses a 20MP ultra-wide-angle camera with an f/1.8 aperture, while the 20MP ultra-wide-angle lens on the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+ has a smaller f/2.4 aperture. The 8MP (f/2.4, OIS) 5x periscope telephoto lens on the HUAWEI P40 Pro can deliver 7x optical zoom, while the 8MP 10X (f/4.4) periscope telephoto camera on the HUAWEI P40 Pro+ works in tandem with another 12MP 3X (f/2.4, OIS) telephoto lens to provide an impressive 17x optical zoom output.

Slo-mo video capture on the HUAWEI Mate 40 is capped at 960fps for 1080p resolution. But the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro and its Plus variant will let you shoot ultra slo-mo 3,840fps videos at 720p resolution. All three HUAWEI Mate 40 series devices also feature a laser autofocus sensor and a color temperature sensor at the back as well.

240fps slo-mo and 4K capture by selfie camera

They also share the 13MP Ultra Vision (f/2.4) selfie camera as well, which offers a wide 100-degree field of view. HUAWEI claims that depending on the number of people in a frame, the front camera can automatically adjust the FOV to include more people in the selfie. Both the rear and front camera can record 240fps slo-mo videos at 1080p as well as 4K clips on the HUAWEI Mate 40 trio.

HUAWEI Mate 40 series: Pricing

The HUAWEI Mate 40 will set you back by €899, while the HUAWEI Mate Pro will erase €1,199 from your bank account. Coming to the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+, you’ll have to shell out €1,399 for this beast. Pre-orders for the HUAWEI Mate 40 series go live in November and general availability will also begin later that month. However, market rollout might be staggered depending on where you live.

Pocketnow Daily: iPhone 12 is NOT Handling 5G Well? (video)

Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, Apple’s iPad and more devices are on sale today

The official news today begin with deals, and here’s the thing, now that iPhones are out, of course we can expect the competition to continue to get aggressive. Let’s start it off with the Galaxy S20 Ultra which is $150 0ff, that leaves the US entry level variant for $1250 shipped. Still not my favorite camera on a phone, but everything else is quite solid. My favorite is actually the galaxy S20+, and this one is $204 off, leaving that for $997 shipped. Now you know I gave the entry level 10.2-inch iPad a positive review, but I did recommend that you get more storage. Right now that exact variant is $34 off, which means you get 128GB for $395 shipped. Finally, for those of you looking for gaming peripherals, we have a ton of deals on Razer products, for example, the Mamba Elite mouse is $39 off, leaving it for $60. We have more deals on Apple products, Motorola phones and more in the links in the description.

The Apple Watch SE is presenting overheating issues

Now let’s talk about issues with new devices, since that never stops being a thing whenever products launch. According to several people in Korea, and notice I said in Korea, the new Apple Watch SE is having some overheating issues. The complains have surfaced on Reddit where at least 6 users claim that their smartwatches overheat and stop working correctly. They also have a yellow spot on the upper right corner of the display. According to some users, these issues started appearing while they were wearing the watch while others noticed that it was overheating while charging. One of them actually slept with it on, and woke up with his wrist extremely hot, the Watch’s display was useless, even if the Find My app was still working and was still able to play the sound on the Watch. So far there hasn’t been a teardown but, it could be a bad batch as, all of the users with this issue are from Korea. Apparently this can be an issue with the display connectors near the Haptic Engine so, we’ll see if more cases appear.

HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro listed on Amazon Germany one day ahead of launch

Now let’s talk Huawei because at least at the time we recorded this video, the information is still not official. Thing is, even with the device not being official Amazon Germany just spilled the beans on some new details. The phone was listed on this site, revealing pretty much everything you need to know. According to the listing, the Mate 40 Pro will bring a 6.76in OLED display, with a pill shaped punch hole once again. It’ll be powered by the Kirin 9000 with the 24-core GPU which we covered yesterday, a 4400 mAh battery, and according to other leaks, 12GB of RAM while running EMUI 11. It brings a triple camera setup at the back that consists of a 50MP main sensor, a 20MP ultra wide and a 12MP telephoto with 5x optical zoom. Finally, the listing mentions that the Pro will start at €1199. And yes, you guessed it, no Google Play, but I do have to say that developers have been making some quick moves to adopt Huawei’s App Gallery, let’s see how it goes. .

OnePlus 9 might launch in March 2021

And guys, it’s barely been two weeks since we got the OnePlus 8T, which by the way, that review is coming pretty soon, but man, can you believe we already started hearing new things about the OnePlus 9? According to a new Android Central report, the 9 is codenamed “Lemonade” and will be launched in March next year. For context, the OnePlus 8 5G was launched in April this year so, this is pretty early and we also know that Samsung might launch earlier than usual so that could be one of the reasons. Now, let’s move on to the Nord Series for a little bit. We have a new tweet from Max J showing the Nord N10. Now, you know Max J doesn’t speak much but he tweeted a picture of the phone’s silhouette with a blue color variant and the characters for N10 scattered around. We’re expecting this phone to come out very soon with a Snapdragon 690, 6GB of RAM, a 90Hz display and a triple camera setup for under the $400 price mark. Now is it just me, or a lot of the 8T launch only makes the Nord lineup more confusing?

Samsung Galaxy S21 and S21 Ultra leak in a new video

Now let’s move on to Samsung and focus on the Galaxy S21, S30 or whatever it’s gonna be called. And guys, the phone is not out, unless you work for Samsung, we won’t know what the name is until the company announces it, so ease out on the comments. There’s been multiple reports, including supply chain that claim that we’ll be getting these phones significantly earlier than we usually do, around late January or early February. Now, we got some new rumors for the display and we actually like them. According to Ice Universe, the S21 and S21+ will bring “2D Screens” aka flat displays, while the S21 Ultra will stick to a curved display. He also mentioned that all four sides will be symmetrical, meaning no extra bezels on the chin. Now, those CAD renders we got yesterday were for the smaller variant of the S21 which will bring a nearly flushed camera hump, well… OnLeaks also posted a video for the S21 Ultra which brings another massive camera hump, at least it looks somewhat slimmer than the Note 20 Ultra but it’s still pretty large and this one packs 4 cameras instead of the three we saw yesterday.

Story of the day:

iPhone 12 reveals everything under the hood, along with a 5G issue

iPhone 12 Pro Max packs a smaller battery than the iPhone 11 Pro Max

But finally, the hottest news today have to do with the iPhone 12, and all the stuff Apple doesn’t tell you, but that we continue discovering. Let’s begin with battery capacity, and stick to the end to understand why. According to some new TENAA certifications, the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a 3687 mAh battery, that is nearly 300 mAh less than the iPhone 11 Pro Max which brought some pretty good battery life. The iPhone 12 Mini apparently packs a 2227 mAh battery and the iPhone 12 packs a 2815 mAh. We still don’t have details on the regular 12 Pro but, we assume it’ll be close to the 2815 mAh we’re getting on the regular 12. Now, we did hear that we were getting smaller batteries in the rumors, which made sense given the power efficiencies of 5 nanometers on the A14 Bionic. Thing is it hasn’t gone too well. A new report from Tom’s Guide claims that 5G drains the iPhone 12’s battery 20% faster when compared to the LTE. We have the full list with technical details in the links below but, they claim that these iPhones are a step back when compared to 5G Android phones, at least in battery life. The new iPhones also went through some teardowns, showing that we’re getting a smaller Taptic Engine, the design of the MagSafe Ring and the L-Shaped Logic Board.

HUAWEI Mate 40 series event on October 22: Everything expected to launch

HUAWEI’s October 22 event is just hours away from going live. And if you’ve been following the news, you must already know that it will be the launch platform for HUAWEI’s new flagship smartphones – the HUAWEI Mate 40 series. If the leaks are to be trusted, we can expect three high-end devices – the vanilla HUAWEI Mate 40, the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro and the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+. And if past years are anything to go by, a Porsche Design version might also tag along. However, HUAWEI has also confirmed the debut of two other devices – the FreeBuds Studio headphones and the Porsche Design HUAWEI Watch GT2 smartwatch. Here’s everything we know from leaks and official teasers so far:

HUAWEI Mate 40 series

The HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro recently appeared in an extensive leak and was also briefly listed on Amazon. A WinFuture report has already given us our first detailed look at the device from all angles, and even shed some light on its internal hardware. Starting with the aesthetics, the phone will feature a familiar curved display with a pill-shaped hole-punch at the top and extremely thin bezels.

HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro

Starting with the display, you’ll find a 6.76-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2772×1344 pixels that translates to a pixel density of 456PPI. However, the refresh rate numbers are unclear. Coming to the internals, the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro will reportedly draw power from the new octa-core Kirin 9000 SoC. Based on the 5nm process, the Kirin 9000 also brings 5G to the table. It ticks alongside 8GB/12GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard UFS 3.1 storage that is non-expandable. Let’s talk about cameras now, as the Huawei Mate 40 Pro is claimed to pack upgraded imaging hardware developed in partnership with Leica. There is a black ring at the back which houses the camera sensors as well as the LED flash.

HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro (Image: WinFuture)

The primary camera uses an optically stabilized 50MP (f/1.9) sensor that can capture 8K videos. It is assisted by a 20MP (f/18) ultra-wide angle and a 12MP (f/3.4) telephoto lens that supports 5x optical zoom. There is also a color temperature sensor and laser autofocus module at the back as well. On the front, you’ll find a 13MP selfie snapper sitting alongside a 3D camera. The HUAWEI Mate 40 series will also support 65W fast charging, thanks to the SuperCharge power adopter bundled in the retail package. It also supports wireless charging as well as reverse wireless charging to juice up accessories such as wireless earbuds. As per a brief Amazon listing, the device will cost €1,199 and will start shipping starting November 9.

A Porsche Design smartwatch too!

So far, we’re yet to come across any leaks surrounding a Porsche Design smartwatch, but HUAWEI has officially confirmed it. As you can glean from the tweet above, the device will be called Porsche Design HUAWEI Watch GT 2. Of course, it will flaunt a premium build and won’t be easy on the wallet either.

HUAWEI FreeBuds Studio

Following a rather comprehensive leak, HUAWEI also confirmed that it will launch a new audio wearable called HUAWEI FreeBuds Studio. It will be the first pair of over-the-ear headphones from HUAWEI. The leaked images show a premium design, all of which will come at a handsome asking price of approximately €400 (~ $470).

(Image: WinFuture)

Talking about the features, the HUAWEI FreeBuds Studio will offer Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and will reportedly be able to reduce the ambient noise levels by up to 40dB. 40mm drivers handle audio output, while audio processing and connectivity are taken care of by the in-house Kirin A1 chip. Battery life will reportedly be 20 hours, while support for fast charging ensures that you get five hours of playtime with just 10 minutes of charging.

The launch event starts at 2:00pm CEST (8:00am ET / 5:30pm IST) and you can catch it live on the YouTube link below:

Amazon Prime Day has the 16-inch MacBook Pro, products from LG, Samsung and more on sale

The official news Today begin with deals as this is the second and final Prime Day so, let’s just get to the mountain of deals. The 16in MacBook Pro is currently $320 off, leaving the Intel core i7, 16GB of RAM and 512GB variant for $2079. If you want the i9 with 1TB of storage, that one is $350 off, leaving it at $2449. The Apple Watch Series 6 is still $15 off, that leaves the 40mm variant for $385. Back to the laptops, the Razer Blade 15 Advanced is $600 off, that leaves the 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage variant for $2000 shipped, and it brings an Nvidia RTX 2070 Super. Honestly I’m kind of tired of reading all of these specs but guys, there is a crazy amount of deals in the links below on Sony phones, headphones, LG Monitors, TVs, Aukey accessories and a ton more.

The new Huawei Mate 40 to include a unique camera design

And of course TechTober isn’t over.. We’re barely going through half of it and we have some more announcements coming. We’re getting closer to the Huawei Mate 40 line and the company just put out a new teaser. The teaser shows the silhouette of the phone and shows the corners of the camera module which is apparently getting a new design. Huawei pretty much introduced stove cameras with the Mate 20 and this new stove will apparently bring somewhat of a hexagonal design. It still looks pretty similar to the one on the Mate 30, but it’s nice to see they’re still trying to switch things up. We should expect this phone on the 22nd and honestly, if it can deliver like that teaser image we got of the phone, I don’t really care about how it looks. That said, we all know a phone is about more than just the camera and the looks so we’ll see.

Samsung Galaxy S20 FE is starting to present erratic touchscreen issues

Now let’s talk about existing phones, particularly with the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE that launched a few weeks ago. No worries, my video is coming soon. . The thing is, there are several users having touchscreen issues with it on Reddit, and I mean several. Apparently, the phone seems to be having trouble distinguishing between swipe and tap gestures. Others are complaining and saying that it’s simply not responding to touch or it just responds without you touching the phone. Of course the phone isn’t new and there’s not a crazy amount of people with the issue but, it’s enough for Samsung to address this. So far, I haven’t had any issues with my unit but I’ll keep you posted on Samsung’s response and if I have problems myself…, or it could just be that we’re in Halloween month. I know, terrible joke.

Here’s everything Apple didn’t say during its iPhone 12 event

Yesterday was Apple’s Event and of course, yesterday’s Pocketnow Daily includes pretty much everything you need to know about all of the announcements. However, there’s always a few things that Apple leaves out which have emerged recently. For starters, we know that they got rid of the EarPods and Charging brick for the 12 but they are actually removing them from all of their current line up. That includes the Xr, the SE, the 11 and the 12 Line. As some sort of consolation they are cutting the price of the EarPods in half, leaving them at $10 in the Apple Store. Apparently the 20W adaptor is now down to $20 from the original $30 so, that’s a good thing I guess. Another thing Apple usually doesn’t mention is the RAM on their new iPhones. According to a new Xcode file, the iPhone 12 Pro line packs at least 6GB of RAM, while the 12 and the 12 Mini will stick to 4GB we got with the 11. And to end with this segment, on a pretty negative note, the iPhone 12 is $799 if you buy on Verizon or AT&T with special carrier offers. If you go T-Mobile or SIM unlocked, the price jumps to $829. Definitely not cool Apple, as a ton of us go SIM free.

OnePlus Buds Z earbuds promise bombastic bass on a $45.99 budget

Now let’s talk OnePlus as the company had their event for the OnePlus 8T today but, as expected that’s not all we got from them so, let’s begin with the Buds Z. These are their latest True Wireless Earbuds which bring 10mm drivers, a Dolby Atmos stereo system and an IP55 rating. OnePlus promises 20 hours of playtime on a single charge, with 3 hours on a 10 minute charge. They bring Bluetooth 5.0 and the same quick pair feature from the original Buds. They weigh 4.35 grams, bring a dedicated gaming mode and come in a white colorway. The crazy thing is that you get all of this for $49, yeah.. There’s also a special Steve Harrington Edition for $60 bucks, and they also launched an exclusive Bullets Wireless Z Bass Edition for the Indian Market. These will be available on November 2nd on the OnePlus website. Oh, and before we get to the hottest, the company also announced a limited edition of the Nord in Gray Ash, so if make sure you check it out if you’re interested in the Nord. I know! $50 is insane, but can they deliver?

Story of the day:

OnePlus 8T brings a smoother 120Hz display, 65W fast charging, and a fresh design

Finally, for the hottest news today let’s talk about the OnePlus 8T which is finally official and you know it’s already in our labs. It brings the same processor from the regular 8 with the Snapdragon 865, depending on your region it’s either 8/128 or in the case of the US it’s 12GB of RAM and brings 256GB of on board storage. It runs on Oxygen OS 11 meaning, Android 11 out of the box bringing the new features like Zen Mode 2.0 and Group Zen Mode. It brings a 4500 mAh battery but, it now brings 65W Warp Charge, promising a full charge in 39 minutes, and even support for up to 45 watts on any Power Delivery charger that provides it. Now, let’s move on to the design which is getting a big overhaul for a OnePlus smartphone. It brings a flat 6.55in AMOLED Display running at 120Hz, with a 402ppi. The punch hole is still at the top left corner housing a 16MP selfie shooter. At the back we got a new stove camera module which includes an optically stabilized 48MP main sensor, a 16MP Ultra Wide, a forgettable 5MP macro lens and a 2MP monochrome lens. It comes in two color variants, Aquamarine Green and Lunar Silver… buuut… it starts at $749 and it is currently available for pre-orders, it’ll be available on stores by October 23rd.

The new Huawei Mate 40 to include a unique camera design

The present smartphone market may have gotten a bit boring as far as design goes, that is, if we don’t consider the new foldables that are showing up from time to time. Take Apple, for example; its new iPhone lineup looks like the previous iPhone 5, but with a squared camera module and obviously more cameras. Let’s take the recently launched OnePlus 8T, change the branding on its back, and it looks like a Samsung Galaxy S20 FE. However, there are some companies that are always trying to break the mold, and this time, it seems that we may see some significant changes in the camera of the upcoming Huawei Mate 40.

Huawei devices usually arrive with some of the best cameras in the smartphone world, and we are expecting the upcoming Huawei Mate 40 to deliver an awesome camera experience. However, the company may not stop there, and it may also include a new camera module design to differentiate itself from the rest of the squares and rectangles out there. According to an official Huawei teaser, the Mate 40 lineup will come with what seems a hexagonal or octagonal camera setup on the back.

The teaser also shows us the device’s physical volume controls, along with what could be the power button. This hints that Huawei may have decided to drop the idea of using virtual buttons, like the ones on the Mate 30. However, it is believed that we may get different members of the Huawei Mate 40 series. One of them would include this new camera module design, while a second could arrive with the same four-camera setup found in the Mate 30 since that’s what previous leaks and rumors suggest.

Whatever the case, we are now only waiting for the new Huawei Mate 40 series’ official launch, which is scheduled to take place on October 22, where we will get official confirmation of these new devices’ designs, pricing, and availability. Until then, we will only have to wait. Still, we will keep you posted in case some new information pops up.

Early Amazon Prime Day deals include Apple’s MacBook Air and more devices on sale

The official news today begin with Deals. Let’s start today with some early Prime Day ones, which is kind of a weird thing to say in the middle of October. Razer’s new Blade Stealth 13 packs an 11th Gen Intel Core processor and OLED display

Now let’s talk Gaming and particularly Razer as the company has just launched their new gaming Ultrabook with the Blade Stealth 13 at RazerCon. It comes equipped with an 11th Gen Intel Core i7, and it’s actually one of their Tiger Lake processors. It also packs 16GB of RAM and 512GB of SSD and an Nvidia GTX 1650 Ti with a Max Q design. You get WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, two USB-A ports, two USB Type C Thunderbolt ports, and a headphone jack combo. The entry level variant brings a 13.3in FHD display running at 120Hz, weighing 3.11lbs and it’s actually just 0.60in thick. This model will cost you $1799 so, if you’re planning on buying I recommend you wait TheUnlockr’s walkthrough, to see if it’s worth it.

HUAWEI Mate 40 series is launching on October 22. Here’s everything we know so far

Now let’s talk Huawei as the company continues to show that they’re in the flagship smartphone conversation, even with everything that’s happened. Over the weekend, Huawei announced that they will be having their Mate 40 Event on October 22nd at 2PM CEDT. So far we’ve heard that the company is having several issues with their Kirin 9000 processors so, this might just be an announcement event with the phone coming later. Now, something that the company is heavily teasing is the camera, we’re expecting a 108MP main sensor, a free-form 9P lens, the periscope module with 5x optical zoom, an ultrawide, and a ToF sensor. The head of their smartphone unit also posted a new picture on Weibo where you can see the moon in broad daylight and honestly, with an impressive amount of detail. And, apparently this picture was taken with the regular Mate 40 and not the Pro. So yeah, if this is the regular variant, I can’t begin to imagine the Pro. We’ll see what we get later this month.

OnePlus Nord could get a Sandstone Black variant on October 14

OnePlus leak claims two Nord-series phones will debut on October 26

Now, let’s talk about the OnePlus Nord, but the whole Nord Series not just the one that’s already out. First off, the company is teasing the launch of a new Nord Special Edition that would come in a Sandstone Back finish. The teaser is captioned “Beauty is Everywhere, find it with OnePlus Nord” on October 14th and shows the silhouette of the phone on sand and near some rock. And, that’s all great, it’s probably just another color variant. However, we have more leaks for the unreleased Nord devices. According to a tipster, the Nord N10 5G and the N100 will be launched on October 26. These leaks go along with the previous ones, where the N10 5G would bring a 6.5-inch display running at 120Hz, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 690 SoC, 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage with the price starting at around $400. Now, the N100 would bring a 6.52-inch display, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 460, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage for around $200. Of course, we should take these with a grain of salt but, we’re two days away from the Event so we should know more very soon. Am I the only one that’s wondering why we’re also not getting the original Nord in the US?

Upcoming HomePod mini and Apple TV may track your location using Ultra Wideband

Guys we know, there’s a lot of Apple news lately but, come on the event is tomorrow, so in preparation, let’s discuss the last batch of things we heard. First, let’s cover non-iPhone related products. Starting with the HomePod we got some new tweets from Jon Prosser where he mentions that the new HomePod Mini and the new Apple TV will serve as UWB base stations. This means that they’ll track your location once you walk inside your house while using other UI devices like your iPhone or apple Watch. They will use information from them for media controls, brightness and volume controls and doors and locks if you have HomeKit. You can even use the Find My app to see if one of your devices has been moved or taken from your home. Honestly it sounds really cool and Prosser also claims that Apple will be making a big deal out of all the capabilities of the U1 chip so let’s see. But, moving on let’s talk AirPods Studio. According to him, his sources still say that It’s impossible to get the AirPods Studio tomorrow but, Apple first removed the dedicated Beats page from the App Store and then brought it back. They’re still selling Beats, but the original landing page dedicated to them might hint to some change in plans. We wonder if Apple now wants to fully merge the brand with AirPods.. We’ll see.

Story of the day:

Ming-Chi Kuo believes iPhone 12 will dominate upcoming iPhone sales

iPhone 12 leaks tip better zoom output, faster Face ID, and a ‘smooth’ sacrifice

And you know it was coming, let’s talk about the iPhone 12 which will become official tomorrow. Let’s begin with a new note from Ming Chi Kuo where he predicts what the top seller is going to be. According to Kuo, there is a demand for smaller iPhones but, not worldwide. He predicts that even with the $699 price tag, there’s not a ton of people looking for smaller phones and, the 6.1-inch iPhone 12 will outsell the 5.4-inch Mini. He believes that Apple will ship 80-85M units of all iPhone 12 models in Q4 of this year, 10M higher than what they got last year with the 11.. That’s what lowering the price tag does. Now, let’s talk about things we won’t get for a second. I still have some hope that 120Hz displays will make the cut but, according to Jon Prosser, Apple didn’t add the feature due to 5G. Cupertino apparently picked 5G rather than ProMotion because it’s an easier thing to market, and having both of them on this phone would require a significantly larger battery than what we’ll be getting. So, along with the missing drivers, this is why we won’t get ProMotion until next year. Finally, we have another huge list of “finalized and revised” leaks from Pine on Twitter. We’ll link the whole thread in the description but, some of the most important things he mentioned are: a shrunk Face ID module that will increase the angles and will introduce a new algorithm for faster speeds, Digital and Optical Zoom are getting a massive boost, Night mode will be available on the telephoto and deep fusion improvements, as well as better lowlight performance with the ultra wide. Finally he also added we are getting larger batteries due to 5G.

HUAWEI Mate 40 series is launching on October 22. Here’s everything we know so far

HUAWEI has announced that its next line-up of flagship smartphones – the HUAWEI Mate 40 series – will be unveiled on October 22. So far, the company has not dropped any teasers regarding the Mate 40 series’ design, internal hardware or capabilities, but leaks have given us an idea of what to expect. Starting with the number of phones we can expect, China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has certified three HUAWEI Mate 40 series devices carrying the model numbers OCE-AN00, NOH-AN00, and NOP-AN00.

Alleged HUAWEI Mate 40 render (Image: OnLeaks x HandsetExpert)

As per reliable tipster DigitalChatStation (via Weibo), the three aforementioned devices will arrive in the market as HUAWEI Mate 40, HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro, and HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro+. However, chances are slim for a fourth and more affordable version tentatively called HUAWEI Mate 40 Lite, since HUAWEI didn’t launch a ‘Lite’ model for the HUAWEI Mate 30 series.

108MP camera with 9P lens, a 5nm SoC and 66W fast charging

The same source also claims that the HUAWEI Mate 40 series will also use a 108MP primary camera with a groundbreaking 9P lens. Increasing the number of lens elements will reportedly reduce distortion and degradation in image quality. Another leak suggests that the HUAWEI Mate 40 series will offer support for 66W fast charging as well.

We’ve also seen alleged CAD-based renders of the HUAWEI Mate 40 as well as that of the Mate 40 Pro. The vanilla Mate 40 is shown packing a triple rear camera setup alongside another sensor whose role is yet unclear. The camera setup creates a rather larger circular bump at the back. There is a pill-shaped hole-punch cutout on the front that houses two selfie cameras, while the display is slightly curved on the sides.

Coming to the HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro, it appears to flaunt a dramatically curved “waterfall” display. And just like the standard HUAWEI Mate 40, the Pro sibling also features dual front cameras sitting in a hole-punch drilled in the top left corner. There are four cameras at the back, one of which has a rectangular lens opening for the periscope-style telephoto camera setup

Alleged HUAWEI Mate 40 Pro render (Image: OnLeaks x PriceBaba)

The HUAWEI Mate 40 series will be powered (via WinFuture) by the in-house Kirin 9000 SoC that is based on the 5nm process and will reportedly be the world’s first 5nm chipset with an integrated 5G modem. For comparison, Apple’s 5nm-based A14 Bionic chipset doesn’t come with an integrated 5G modem as part of the chip. However, rumors suggest that the aforementioned chipset might be called Kirin 1000 or Kirin 1020, and will deliver a massive 50% performance boost. It might also be the last custom HUAWEI SoC to roll off TSMC’s assembly after fresh sanctions imposed by the US government.

The post HUAWEI Mate 40 series is launching on October 22. Here’s everything we know so far appeared first on Pocketnow.

US sanctions may also affect the launch of the Huawei Mate X2

It seems that Huawei may be getting more headaches due to the US ban. New rumors now suggest that the launch of the new Huawei Mate X2 may also be affected because of the latest sanctions. Things don’t stop there, as there’s also further information suggesting that Huawei may have less Kirin 9000 processors than expected for its next Mate 40 flagships.

As if things weren’t already hectic for Huawei, the new US sanctions seem to be causing more problems. According to a Tweet by Ross Young, the new Huawei Mate X2 won’t be launching this year. The main cause of this delay would be related to hardware sourcing difficulties, and it would force the possible launch until 2021.

We could believe that losing Samsung and LG as display suppliers would cause the problem, but Chinese display company BOE made foldable panels for the Huawei Mate X and the Mate Xs. This means that we could expect the same BOE-made panels in the Huawei Mate X2. However, speculation would suggest that the new Kirin 1000 chipsets’ shortage may be the main cause of this delay.

Now, to make matters worse, not only Kirin 1000 processors would present an issue for Huawei, as a new report claims that the company would’ve only managed to get 8.8 million Kirin 9000 chipsets for the upcoming Huawei Mate 40 series. The information comes from a reliable leaker on Weibo, and he confirmed that the TSMC might only deliver 22,000 5nm wafers to Huawei, and if each wafer can yield 400 dies, we find that Huawei wouldn’t get all the processors it expected.

Still, Huawei is already expecting a 30 percent drop in smartphone sales, so getting fewer processors may not be so bad after all. Let’s remember that the Kirin 9000 is the first with 5nm process technology to include a built-in 5G modem, and initial reports suggested that Huawei had asked TSMC to manufacture 15 million units for its devices.

Sony’s PlayStation 5 starts at $399.99 and is releasing on November 12

Of course, earlier we had some announcements from Xbox as we were getting a pretty major Playstation Showcase. Yes, the company just announced that the regular PS5 will cost $499, and the Digital Edition will cost $399, retaining the PS4’s original price tag. They will be available on November 12th, with pre-orders being available on September 17th on “select retailers”. Oh, and by the way that November 12th date applies to the US, Japan, Mexico, Australia and a few more countries, the rest of the world will have to wait an extra week. We also got a lot of interesting trailers and announcements like the PlayStation Plus Collection which is a subscription that let’s subscribers play a range of PS4 games on their Ps5. We also got trailers for a new God of War, a new Final Fantasy, Spiderman and more. We’ll let you know if we get any more announcements before November, as competition will most likely get intense.

Facebook’s new Oculus Quest 2 VR headset is sharper, faster and also cheaper at $299

Keeping up with the official news, Facebook had their Connect Event today and we got the Oculus Quest 2. This new VR headset is smaller and 10% lighter than the original Quest, it’s also sharper, with a resolution of 1832 x 1920 pixels per eye, meaning a 50% increase over its predecessor. Some of the specs include the Qualcomm Snapdragon XR2, 6GB of RAM and it offers 90Hz refresh rate support across their Home Environment, and Oculus TV sections. Facebook will be shipping this product with new Touch Controllers which offer better ergonomics and more efficient controller tracking to preserve battery, lasting 4x longer than the previous one. It’s priced at $299 which is cheaper than it’s predecessor and it’s currently available for pre-orders with shipments starting on October 13th. Now tell me, do any of you actually care about VR, cause this really reminds me the old days of 3D on everything.

New Huawei Mate 40 series may launch until 2021

There was some interesting things that we weren’t able to cover yesterday due to the Apple Event. We usually expect Huawei to announce their new Kirin chip at IFA, followed by the release of the Mate 40 flagship. Well, we all know how this year is going so we thought we could get them at HDC but that obviously didn’t happen. A couple of days ago Evan Blass tweeted out that if you’re waiting on the Mate 40 Series, you won’t be able to get your hands on it until next year. After that Ross Young said that the Huawei Mate X’s official successor was set to launch this year but due to difficulties with the hardware sourcing, the release will be postponed until 2021. Now, the reasoning behind this isn’t 100% clear yet but, we know that the company was cut off from TSMC yesterday and starting today they wouldn’t be able to get OLED displays from Samsung and LG. They have reportedly stocked up on chips from TSMC and they’ll be using BOE Display, but this could have delayed production significantly and they’re still trying to figure out their next move. Let’s just say that this whole mess is quite epic, but we’ll keep you posted on how it evolves.

Here’s your first look at Apple’s upcoming AirPods Studio wireless headphones

One of the things we’ve been expecting from Apple are the AirPods Studio. It’s also one of those things we were expecting in yesterday’s event, and nothing happened. We knew that we wouldn’t be getting those at yesterday’s Event but they have been in the rumor mill for a long time. Well, now we have some renders from Jon Prosser and Concept Creator, which were reportedly made based on a video of the actual product. They bring a pretty sleek and minimalistic metal and leather design. According to a tweet from Prosser, they’re codenamed B515 and they’ll bring Magnetic Ear Cups, Reversible detection like the AirPods which means you can put them on any way you want and the Audio will adjust to your ears, no headphone jack and a USB C port. Since we didn’t get them yesterday, we’re expecting to get them at Apple’s iPhone 12 Event. There’s still no word on the price tag or if it will bring Active Noise Cancelation. It doesn’t seem like they will given how they won’t cover your ears entirely, but who know’s. We’ll see how it goes.

Story of the day:

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra to have significant camera changes

And finally, for the hottest news today, let’s discuss the future of the Samsung Galaxy lineup. With both the S20 and the Note 20 released this year, it’s already time to discuss the S21? According to some Korean industry sources, the Galaxy S21 Ultra will bring a quad camera setup, similar to the one on the S20 Ultra but with a pretty interesting change, it’ll bring two telephotos, just like the Huawei P40 Pro Plus. According to the report this device will use a standard 3x lens and a periscope module to offer more than 5x magnification. The other lenses include the 108MP main lens and another 12MP ultra wide shooter. Oh, and apparently we’ll also get a 40MP selfie shooter m. The report also mentions that the rest of the S20 line won’t offer major photography improvements when compared to the Ultra, and we still won’t be getting a ToF sensor. Moving on to a different report, but sticking to the S20, Galaxy Club just leaked the model number of the battery and the capacity, apparently it’ll be a 5,000 mAh power pack. We’re also expecting it to bring 5nm processors from both Qualcomm and Samsung so, battery life should get a pretty big boost. We’re still months away from the S21 but, this is already getting interesting as, Samsung apparently changed the line’s codename to Palette, and remember that some of the rumors include this line bringing an S Pen. If the Note 20 Ultra is any indication, I think this is something to actually look forward to.

New Huawei Mate 40 series may launch until 2021

Huawei’s future would seem bright after everything the company has announced during its latest HDC if it weren’t for the whole US-China trade war. Still, the company is trying to look for options to keep growing and keep delivering excellent products. Maybe this year’s most expected Huawei device is the upcoming Huawei Mate 40, but new rumors suggest that we will have to wait until next year to see its launch.

Many believed that Huawei would announce the new Kirin 9000 chipset at its latest appearance during IFA 2020, which would then lead to the launch of the Huawei Mate 40 series. Unfortunately, we didn’t get the first one, and the Mate 40 could make us wait until next year. According to Evan Blass, the Huawei Mate 40 would make a global launch until 2021. Still, we’re not sure if this affects the launch in every market or everything outside of China since the Mate 40 is still expected to be available in its homeland this year.

The launch of the Mate 40’s predecessor in China took place back on September 2019, with a later launch in November for the European market, expanding to more markets late in January, but that was when Huawei didn’t have so many restrictions that are now blocking several of its suppliers. Now the Huawei Mate 40 is expected to follow the same launch pattern as the Mate 30, but it will take longer for this device to be available worldwide.

The reason for this delay is not so clear, but we can believe that the Huawei ban may have something to do with it. The company will stop working with TSMC starting tomorrow, and it will lose OLED display suppliers Samsung and LG, even though they still have BOE. Now, another reason may the limited global demand, as Huawei phones haven’t received that much love outside of China after they lost Google services. However, let’s remember that these are rumors, which should always be taken with some salt.

The Huawei Mobile UK Twitter account recently posted that the new Huawei Mate 40 will be unveiled soon. Further, leakster Roland Quandt believes that the device will be presented in a live stream that may happen around mid-October. This launch would be focused on the Chinese market. These new devices are also expected to feature the new Kirin 9000, well, at least the Mate 40 Pro and the Mate 40 Pro+, while the regular Mate 40 would feature a Kirin 9000E. The Kirin 9000 is also said to be the first 5nm chipset to feature an integrated 5G modem.

We have new leaks of the cases for the Huawei Mate 40 series

New images of what seem to be the cases for the new Huawei Mate 40 and Mate 40 Pro reveal interesting details. These leaks were recently posted on Twitter thanks to leaked Digital Chat Station.

We have just received a batch of images showing what are believed to be transparent cases for the upcoming Huawei Mate 40 Pro and the regular Mate 40. These images show a circular opening for the new camera bump, with no extra holes for the LED flash or other sensors.

According to these images, the new Huawei Mate 40 pro will include hardware volume controls, unlike its predecessor. It seems that it may also have stereo speakers on the top and bottom. Both the Pro and the regular Mate 40 are expected to include an IF blaster, but the entry-level version may also include a 3.5mm headphone jack.

There’s still no official date for the new Mate 40 series launch, but we expect to see the phone’s new Kirin 990 processor revealed during the next IFA 2020 event.
