HUAWEI P50 series is just around the corner. We have already gotten our alleged first look at the HUAWEI P50 Pro’s design. It revealed the device from the front and sides and a waterfall display. More renders of the device appeared online recently, which also leaked some of the specifications. It was followed by the leak of the HUAWEI P50, which also looks like the Pro variant. However, we have received some images of an alleged upcoming P series device, and these give us a look at a totally different rear panel. Here are four reasons why this leak might not be real.
First, there is no dual rear camera module at the back like the recently leaked images of the HUAWEI P50 series. While this could be a totally different P series device, a brand would likely stick to the same design language across the product lineup. Second, if you look closely, the camera module has a ring on the outside that blends with the edge, making it look untidy. Although, we could be looking at a very early stage prototype where finish and tolerances were not the focus.
Third, the “LEICA” spelling is wrong as it is spelled “LEACI.” However, the brands use different placeholders in the early prototype stages, and it could be to throw us off. Finally, the flash seems to have been tampered with. If you look carefully below the camera module, there is a translucent flash, which makes things fishy. But then again, it could just be that the phone is wrapped.
Coming to the front of the device, it houses a pill-shaped punch-hole cutout that could house two selfie shooters or a camera and a time of flight sensor. There is no word on the specifications, but a closer look determines that there is no earpiece. The last time HUAWEI went with this kind of design was the P40 Pro. It brought the earpiece back on the Mate 40 Pro. Unless the company is willing to go back in time, this is likely not an upcoming P series device.
However, if the images are real, they could be of the P50 Lite. Nonetheless, as always with leaks, we advise you to keep skeptical and digest this with a considerable amount of salt, at least until we hear official wording from HUAWEI. Tell us what do you think about the latest leaked images. Do you think these are legit? Let’s talk about it in the comments below.

A couple of months ago, we got our first look at the HUAWEI P50 Pro’s design, but that leak only gave us a glimpse of its design from the front and sides, revealing a waterfall display. And now that we’re inching closer to the rumored March debut of HUAWEI’s next flagship, a massive leak has just dropped. Leakster Steve H. aka OnLeaks (via Voice) has shared some high-resolution renders of the HUAWEI P50 Pro and has shed some lights on a few of its specs as well.
Starting with the design, a familiar curved display profile greets us that we last saw on the HUAWEI P40 Pro (Review), but there’s one major change. Instead of a pill-shaped sensor located in a corner, HUAWEI is taking a centered hole-punch approach that looks more minimalist and mimics Samsung’s new wave of Galaxy S and Note flagships. The bezels are extremely thin and the glass is curved to achieve that waterfall design. The screen reportedly measures 6.6-inch and will likely employ a high-refresh-rate panel.
As per the leakster, the rear panel is made out of glass, and this is where things get interesting. There is a huge vertically-aligned pill-shaped camera bump at the back, which has two large circular cutouts inside. It is possible that each circle will house more than one sensor, as we’ve seen a similar approach come to life on the HUAWEI Nova 8. However, one can’t help but notice that the camera bump size is huge, and will likely prove to be a divisive design element for potential buyers.
HUAWEI has reportedly fitted a fingerprint sensor beneath the display., while the audio output is handled by speakers at the top and bottom. There is an IR blaster as well, letting users control appliances such as TVs – with the HUAWEI P50 Pro doubling as a remote controller. The upcoming phone is also said to feature a physical earpiece, replacing the magnetic earpiece speaker system that we saw on its predecessor.

HUAWEI is currently riding a wave of uncertainty when it comes to the fate of its smartphone business, thanks in no part to the US trade sanctions that don’t appear to be going away anytime soon. While rumors started swirling a few weeks ago that HUAWEI might sell its P and Mate flagship brands due to the ongoing troubles, the company denied those rumors and told us that the company is committed to making high-end phones. Now, a fresh leak suggests that the Chinese smartphone maker will launch a fresh line-up of flagship phones in the HUAWEI P50 series next month.
The P50 series is ready for mass production, last prototype design is locked and it's entering mass-production soon.

New design
3 models
P50, P50 Pro and P50 Pro+
Selling points
Screen quality, new ultra sensing camera system
and gaming capabilities.
More specifically, the HUAWEI P50 series – as per a tipster – will go official somewhere around March 26 to 28. Now, given the early April 2020 launch frame of its predecessor, the leaked launch window for the P50 family doesn’t sound too far-fetched. The company has reportedly finalized the prototype design and will begin mass production of the devices soon. And just like the HUAWEI P40 series last year, there will be a trio of flagship models this time around as well – the vanilla HUAWEI P50, P50 Pro, and a top-of-the-line P40 Pro+ model.
Notably, the upcoming flagships will offer some notable upgrades that include a better display, ‘a new ultra-sensing camera system’, and improved gaming capabilities. And being P-series phones, you can expect the HUAWEI P50 trifecta’s core focus to be some impressive imaging hardware and neat camera tricks. On the software side though, the phones will rely on the in-house HMS core, and will miss out on access to essential Google services such as Gmail, Maps, and Play Store.
This might play a key role in deciding the market availability of HUAWEI P50 series outside China. The tipster mentioned that the HUAWEI P50 and P50 Pro will make it to the European market, but availability will be limited. As per a recent leak of the P50 Pro, the upcoming HUAWEI flagship will flaunt a waterfall display that is dramatically curved on the sides and there is a single centered hole-punch for housing the selfie camera.

HUAWEI is still months away from the launch of its next camera-centric flagships – the HUAWEI P50 family. However, tiny bits of information have already started to trickle. Now, prolific leakster Steve. H aka @OnLeaks has shared what he claims to be a render of the HUAWEI P50 Pro. At first glance, it appears that the Chinese smartphone maker is sticking with the design formula of the P40 series, and we’re not complaining either.
The leaked HUAWEI P50 Pro render shows a dramatically curved display – something that the company markets as a waterfall display. The bezels are stunningly thin on all sides, and there appears to be a metallic frame running around the edges. However, a couple of things have changed. The first one is the positioning of the selfie camera and the absence of a few sensors. The leakster mentions that the HUAWEI P40 Pro will feature a 6.6-inch display, however, details about its resolution, refresh rate, or other attributes are still a mystery.
On the HUAWEI P50 Pro, we see a single snapper on the front that is positioned in a circular hole punch in the middle alongside the top edge. The implementation is similar to Samsung’s Infinity-O design philosophy that we’ve seen on the likes of Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy S20 family. The HUAWEI P40 Pro, on the other hand, had a pill-shaped cutout on the top-left corner that housed a 32MP selfie camera and a depth camera that worked in tandem with an IR sensor to support 3D face unlock, somewhat like the Face ID system on iPhones.
Another change that will arrive with the HUAWEI P50 Pro, is a physical earpiece. “It is also worth noting that Huawei has seemingly axed another feature. The magnetic earpiece speaker system found within the P40 Series has been replaced by a standard earpiece,” the tipster claims. To recall, the HUAWEI P40 Pro had a magnet at the top of the phone that used the glass of the display as a vibrating speaker membrane. You can watch it in this teardown video.
As per another leak, the HUAWEI P50 Pro will offer a triple rear camera system that resembles the one we saw on the HUAWEI Mate 40 series. However, the P50 Pro will come armed with an upgraded main camera and ultra-wide cine camera.
The P series is a compact camera phone, and the P50 series will continue on this path. 159x73x8.x mm size

The HUAWEI P-series has served as a showcase of the company’s expertise at smartphone cameras, and it was not surprising to see the HUAWEI P40 Pro+ winning the crown for the best smartphone camera in the Pocketnow Smartphone Awards of 2020. Keeping that in mind, we expect the HUAWEI P50 Pro to again wow us with some impressive camera chops.
